I would love to go back and try more.

Drinks are awesome too and there is happy hour after 9pm with draft beer only at $5, very good deal. However the service upstairs was so bad that I almost made a scene. I waited a long time to get my check which I was already a little annoyed as the two servers including our server made eye contact with me several times and they ignored us. Once we got the check we asked for a to go box which they say they'll get us right away. However, they proceed to work on not important task like placing napkins and utensils on empty tables ( im sure it's not an urgent task since there is lots of empty tables with napkins and utensils) so I waited like 5 mins more while making multiple eye contact with him and he still didn't get the box for me. I had to walk to him and ask can I get my box please to finally get my thing. The very nice gentlemen next table even asked if I were ok and offer to buy me beer. And the ironic part is that they ordered beer like 20 mins ago and that didn't came so I kindly said no thanks.

I've had too good to-go bags from this location before and it was always some kind of dish and rice…read morethat met the stated program value. When I arrived around 5:15pm on August 1, the employee at the counter first told me they have no too good to go bags after having me swipe, then questioned if I was in the right location despite seeing the 8th Ave store on my screen, and then took a few minutes waffling trying to figure out what to do. He then went to the kitchen and another guy told me they would make me a new bag. Low and behold what I got was a container of plain fried rice and a diet Coke. Google is free and I lookd up the prices. it's gross that the guy at the counter thought that would substitute for the higher value meal I paid for. The staff's inability to properly manage their inventory should never be a customer's problem. The store was fully open and serving, so they easily could have given me something that meets promised value. To make matters worse, the rice was dry and flavorless. I would rate this 0 out of five if I could.

We walked in without reservation but Patrina was able to accommodate us and personally escort us to the table to be sure we are seated comfortably. Our wait staff Miles was very friendly and kind, attention to details. We wanted to start of with some white wines but could not decide which one, he gave us some recommendation and introduced the wine sommelier- Joe who is very knowledgeable and professional. We really enjoyed the wines he recommended and it paired beautifully with the seafood we ordered. The oyster and uni cold starter was a wonderful kickoff, and they surprised us with a compliment starter which was really refreshing! It's thine sliced salmon sashimi dressed lightly with yuzu and sesame oil. It's delicious and it's free who doesn't like that! We had chicken wings as hot appetizers, it was done just right! The divers scallop was also super light and delicious but the sauce was on the heavy side. We finished with the black cod clay pot which was a great wrapped up. We were full and really had a great time enjoyed the food and wines at the 53-nyc. My friend's already asked me info about the restaurant and I highly recommend this place! Thank you Patrina, Miles and Joe!

Sometimes the best stops are the unplanned ones…read more After spending the afternoon at MoMA, my husband and I ducked into 53 to escape the heat and enjoy a cocktail before continuing our day. What started as a quick break turned into one of our favorite moments of the afternoon. We ended up chatting with the bartender for quite a while, swapping recommendations for speakeasies and cocktail bars around the city. It's always refreshing to meet someone who's genuinely passionate about their craft and happy to share local favorites. The cocktails were excellent, and the conversation made the experience even better. This wasn't actually our first visit--we celebrated my birthday here about three years ago, and I still remember how impressed we were with both the food and its presentation. It was nice to return and be reminded why we enjoyed it so much. We also learned that 53 has opened a speakeasy downstairs that's open on select weeknights and features live jazz. Needless to say, that's already on our list for our next trip to the city. Whether you're stopping in for a full dinner or just a well-made cocktail and a break from the Midtown bustle, 53 is well worth a visit.

We ordered the pork potstickers appetizer, my wife got the ahi tuna bowl and I got the miso cod with green tea soba noodles. My wife really enjoyed her bowl. And my cod was perfectly cooked. The green tea soba noodles were deliciously savory. I'd order this dish again. The only disappointment was the potstickers. They weren't cooked correctly, really they were overcooked and all the wrappers were broken open. We let the waiter know he was great. He apologized and agreed they hadn't been cooked correctly and he took them off our bill. We'd go here again.

We ordered family-style to share, starting with the cashew shrimp, spring rolls, and wontons, followed by the braised short rib lo mein, crab fried rice, chicken & broccoli, salt & pepper shrimp, and sea bass. Everything tasted decent, but nothing was particularly remarkable for the price point. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. I had to track down our server multiple times throughout the meal. An item was completely forgotten because order details weren't written down, and there was confusion when paying regarding an InKind / Broadway offer. Proper staff training would go a long way here-as it stands, the service level and pricing just don't align."

My husband and I had a mixed experience dining at Brooklyn Chop House. When we arrived, the person…read morebehind the desk told us that another staff member would take us to our table. This young woman took the menus from the front desk. We said hello; she barely looked at us and walked us to an empty section to sit (which wasn't an issue). Suddenly, a door opened behind me, and I realized we were seated right in front of the kitchen entrance. Immediately after, the door kept slamming open and shut as busy staff members carried plates, and we understood what kind of experience we'd have if we stayed seated there (I have a photo of the door behind me). When our waiter came over, I asked if we could move tables; he left to address it. When that female staff member returned to seat us, she said we were going to move to another section. Our drinks had already arrived, and since we had our coats and bags, I asked if someone could bring them over. She said no very sharply, without even looking in our direction. Her energy and tone dampened how welcome we felt at the restaurant, although our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes (he made the perfect recommendation of asparagus to go with my braised short rib entree!). All this said, the food was delicious. The Philly Spring Rolls were moist and perfectly seasoned. The Lobster Wontons had a nice amount of lobster meat, and the fry of the crispy wonton enhanced the flavor of the lobster, which was then topped off by the sweetness of the dipping sauce. For entrees, we had the skirt steak with chimichurri, nicely seared with beautifully flavorful chimichurri; the braised short ribs were well-seasoned, but the meat didn't have that complete "fall-off-the-bone" consistency I look for. The meat was tender, but not as tender as I'd hoped for. The short ribs sat on a bed of bright reddish-brown lo mein, which was a unique touch and highlighted the Asian fusion touch. The lo mein was nicely seasoned. The everything fried rice was everything! So flavorful! That said, I ordered the oxtail fried rice to take home, and I tasted the meat, I didn't get that taste of tender, flavorful oxtail meat that I would expect. It just tasted like any other meat. Finally, the asparagus is a must-order! They're well-seasoned, with a hint of heat. Lastly, I wanted to highlight the drinks. I had the Espresso Martini, which was unremarkable in terms of flavor. But the spotlight goes to the delicious Lychee Frose, which balanced lychee puree, rosé wine, and coconut cream with a fruity, not-too-sweet profile. That drink was a 10/10. Overall, the welcome may have kept us from returning, but the food was wonderful. I hope the restaurant will use this data and incorporate it into future staff learning.

My friends enjoyed their meals as well, including the lo mein, fried rice, lamb chops, filet mignon beef and broccoli. The drinks were great, but the ambience really made the night. The space has an old-school speakeasy feel, with a very dark and mysterious entrance and an intimate, moody vibe. Great food, great drinks, and a really fun atmosphere. We ordered the sashimi, lobster spoons, and steamed chicken and vegetable dumplings. Everything was delicious, although we both thought the vegetable dumplings might be even better fried rather than steamed. For our entrée, we shared the chicken and vegetable lo mein, which was also a hit, and the edamame was so flavorful! We finished with the vanilla crème brûlée, and it was absolutely phenomenal--I'm honestly craving it again right now!
