NYC is one of the most important culinary hubs in the entire US. In addition to its endless array of celebrity-driven hotspots and Michelin-starred restaurants, Gotham is also home to nearly every kind of global cuisine in existence. Thai cuisine has also grown immensely in popularity. From savory noodle dishes to heartwarming soups, Thai food is generally seen as very flavorful, comforting, and delicious. Located on 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen, we decided on Elephant Ear, an interesting name for a Thai restaurant bringing the spices of Northern Thailand, for lunch before our show. A reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon arrival at this cozy establishment as first-timers, my partner, his family, and I were greeted by the staff and got a table immediately. The interior was very festive with colorful hanging lamps and elegant elephant-inspired decor, evoking a special charm to its ambiance. Their menu represents the typical Thai recipes to include rich curries, tasty noodle dishes, and a wide variety of fresh seafood options. We decided on Stir Fried Green Beans with Sambal Sauce, Drunken Noodles with Chicken, Stir Fried Crispy Chicken with Lemongrass, and Sautéed Mixed Seafood with Salty Duck Egg. Every dish was bursting with authentic flavors, perfectly balanced between spice, sweetness, and aroma. Our server was great. He was very patient and friendly. The price was comparable to the area and the portion just right. It's a popular spot for good reason with tourists and the locals. It fills up quickly. Overall, a fantastic dining experience

Solid Thai restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. Packed on a Wednesday evening, the host was very kind to give us a table despite not having a reservation. Interior features a fitting tropical theme which adds to the upbeat atmosphere. Red Curry Chicken had plenty of kick and a plentiful amount of chicken. My wife's Pad Thai was a bit on the dry side, but she still enjoyed it. Wide selection of adult beverages, including Mia Thais, but I went with a Thai brew which was refreshing. We'll definitely be back for more.

More like a 3.5, but because of the start of the meal, I'm rounding down. I stumbled upon Elephant Ear Thai Restaurant while I was researching places to eat before seeing the Broadway show, Just In Time. It was in the perfect location, so my friend filled out the form on their website to reserve a table. She received confirmation that we had a table booked for 5pm on a Thursday. We were psyched! I met up with my friend and we walked over to the restaurant. We gave our name to the hostess and she couldn't find our reservation. We told her our name and how we reserved the table and showed her the email confirmation. She proceeded to tell us that we wrong to reserve the table through their website. Apparently, it doesn't work, and we shouldn't have done that. Um, ok? How are we supposed to know that? We were ready to make a scene but she honored our reservation anyway (which is the right thing to do). Maybe take off the reservation feature from your website if it's not working? This place is really cool looking. The ambiance is awesome, but boy do they pack people in. Tables are basically touching each other and you are sharing the space with other diners. I won't complain too much about that because the food is actually very good. I ordered the lychee martini which was sweet, refreshing, and delicious. For my meal I had the garlic shrimp and string beans which were just the right amount of food and had the best flavor! The garlic sambal sauce was perfection. My friend ordered vegetarian yellow curry, which our waiter repeated, but it came out with steak. They fixed the problem relatively quickly. The yellow curry was also very flavorful and delicious. They are definitely there to move people along, which I understand. People are probably having dinner before a broadway show so everything feels a bit hurried. Overall, the food was really very great, but I wasn't a big fan of the service.

Came to Elephant Ear on a Saturday evening with a big group of 20 and everything went super smoothly and timely. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Our server M was excellent. He was very patient, friendly, and took the time to explain the menu and point us to popular dishes. His recommendations were spot on. Favorites from our table were the fried chicken wings, pineapple duck curry, pork belly, ribeye drunken noodle, and pineapple fried rice. A few of the dishes do have a mild spice level, so if you're sensitive to spice, ask beforehand. For drinks we tried the Pandan Cooler and Thai Me Down, both refreshing and fun. Overall we had a great time. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean, service was great, and M really made the night for us. Would definitely come back with friends again!

Elephant Ear Thai Restaurant brings a vibrant, elevated take on Thai fusion cuisine to NYC's Hell's Kitchen. My friend and I ordered 3 dishes and 2 drinks for lunch. The Elephant Roast Combo impressed us with perfectly grilled satay skewers (that tasted like real meat), crispy bites, and balanced flavors with the 3 different sauces. My favorite dish was the Drunken Noodle with Ribeye Steak for its rich flavor and portion size. The Pineapple Fried Rice served in a carved pineapple was both instagrammable and beautifully layered. We paired our meal with a creamy Thai Iced Tea (lychee/green tea available) and fragrant Pandan Cooler Mocktail (alc available). The customer service here is top-notched with affordable prices, and is truly a must-visit for Thai food lovers in NYC.

My husband and two of our friends stopped here on a whim after doing a gameshow activity in Times Square. The place was crowded; however, they were able to accommodate our party of 4, but with a 60 minute time limit due to a reservation for the table later that evening. The place is small and we had to squeeze into our table upfront between the bar and the window. Service: Our waitress was nice enough and she took our orders quickly. We were a little stressed due to the time restraint, but everything was served pretty fast. For drinks I ordered a mango margarita (which I forgot to take a picture of) and for my entree, I ordered the pineapple curry duck. My margarita was tasty and well balanced, but I was not a fan of the duck. It had lychee in (which I wasn't expecting) and tomatoes (which I love but can no longer eat). Neither ingredient was listed in the description so that was annoying so I sent it back and ordered my usual Thai dish pad see ew. Their pad see ew was good, but didn't blow me away. I'd give it a 7/10. All in all, i probably wouldn't return. You're better off going to V{IV} right across the street. It's more flavorful and much more reasonably priced!

I reserved a table for 5 during peak dinner rush and I was surprised that we got seated right next to the kitchen and bathrooms. However, the layout of the restaurant was very narrow so all the smaller tables and booths were in the front half of the restaurant whereas the larger tables for larger groups were in the back. It was actually quieter where we were and we had a large bench to place our things. We ordered the combo appetizer plate, garlic Chinese broccoli, pineapple duck curry, drunken noodles, and the crying tiger steak. My mom is usually really picky and can't handle spicy but she loved everything. The ribeye steak was cooked really well and the garlic rice it was paired with was excellent as well. My dad's favorite dish was the duck which was also super tender and the red curry it was in was also super good to mix in with the rice. Would definitely come back!

Green Curry (edible), Pad Kee Mao (no taste)

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE and we will never be back here again and tell everyone to skip this "fancy" looking place for something, anything more authentic. Valla Table is right around the corner and serves some of the best Thai food in NYC. Go there instead. What a disappointing experience. We came here for our anniversary of all days and that made it extra worse. After reserving a table for 2 at 7pm, we were told our table was getting ready after arriving. As more people came in, they were seated right away as tables got empty. We ended up waiting 45 minutes just to get a table which they said would be bigger and special... so we thought ok, let's see what they have in store for us. The table we did end up getting was not even properly cleaned and right next to the bar area... nothing special there. We ordered Green Curry and Pad Kee Mao and waited another 25 minutes for the food to come. After almost an hour of waiting, the food came, looked pretty but had no taste. We were so hungry that we decided to eat the Green Curry but had to send the Pad Kee Mao back. Then another waiter came by to say they cannot remake the Pak Kee Mao any differently and that we should order something else. So we ordered their Yellow Curry. Another 20 minutes later when that came, it looked Red and even the server said it was Red Curry. So we told them it was the wrong order and then the waiter came back and said that this was actually the Yellow Curry, it just looks Red. What??? Do we look that stupid? That was the final straw. Almost 2 hours on our anniversary date, we were fed up with the staff and the food here so we just told them to pack everything up and left.

Drunken Noodle

What a gem! Went for a birthday lunch after reading the amazing Reddit reviews and they did not disappoint. Everything was flavorful and the service was so attentive. We got the red curry soft shell crabs, drunken noodles, wings, and chicken pani puri. All were soo good. I think the red curry was my favorite. Spice level was great for us (may be a little spicy for others I would specify if you're sensitive to spice). The Thai me down was also very good.

Crispy Duck? You're killing me. I'm sorry I didn't get the picture of the appetizer . We had a beautiful dinner .

Drunken Noodle

Honestly... not great and not bad. The food is generally very very bland, but still bearable. If you are not accustomed to the spicy levels of local thai this will be your spot. When I think about thai food in this neighborhood, lum lum has a wayyyy better spicy and flavor profile. This restaurant is really playing in a tough neighborhood with all star thai spots. We ordered both the drunken noodles and pad krakow with chicken. Both needed wayyyy more chili sauce.

Chicken wings with lemongrass

My friend and I came here in a weekday evening last minute and the place was packed, a very good sign! We were lucky in that a table was just leaving as we arrived, otherwise the wait would've been maybe 30 or so minutes. They had other tables held for reservations so make sure to book one ahead of time if you know you want to eat here. There's a bar when you walk in and the main dining room next to and behind. The menu has good variations of food and wasn't too extensive (we struggle with indecisiveness when the menu is too large). We ordered the chicken wings with lemongrass and the seafood laksa to share. The chicken wings were all flats which I was pleasantly surprised about. It was cooked very well. There was a slight outer crisp and the inside was so moist and juicy. The sweet chili sauce paired very well with it. The laksa soup was a bit too acidic to my liking. Too much lime and it was marinated into the noodles too. The noodles portion was very generous and we left with full bellies. We were told we only had 60 minutes to dine, which is understandable given the queues and the need to turn around tables. In the end we didn't feel rushed as the food came out quickly. They were able to also help split the bill in half for us which was helpful in paying.

Red Curry

Go with a group before a broadway show Wowed by the red curry with generous portions of beef on top, and attentive/fast service Ambiance is very loud and boisterous Menu offers plenty of choices - very big fan of the curry options - plus they give you free drinks sometimes if you leave a review

Not all midtown restaurants stay open past 10, and I was relieved to find their kitchen going strong at that hour, as well as their dining space, which was full. Turned out it was for good reason because their food was delicious. My friend and I were hoping to eat at a restaurant nearby specializing in crab, but they closed much earlier. Fortunately for us, SaiTong's menu had plenty of crab on it, and we decided to double up and make each of our entree's a crab one. The black spaghetti crab curry and crab curry noodles advertised themselves as being very different dishes in both presentation and ingredients but ended up tasting kind of similar. One was topped with deep fried crab and used a different type of noodle than the other, but the sauces were so similar. This is not to say that they didn't taste good, but I would've preferred more variance. I'm glad we got an order of papaya salad to cut the richness of the other dishes, and I also appreciated it had a nice level of heat in it. Our servers were really friendly without being overbearing, and let us linger for a bit even after we paid the bill, as it was their last seating for the evening. There are so many excellent Thai restaurants in the city and I'd put SaiTong firmly in the category of perfectly solid spots to get your Thai fix, with some special dishes on the chef's menu worth checking out.
