Back again and excellent again. Have honestly been thinking about returning for well over a year. Glad to have had a chance. Got the crab curry and it was good as usual. A little less crab than last time though. Had a chance to try the pla tod which was beautifully fried and presented expertly. The keep the whole fish intact and butterfly it in a way where there is a basin for sauce in the middle at the belly. The frying is light and delicate. I'd say this isn't a single person meal though as it was a bit too much fried stuff on one go for me. Also had a delicious Cha-Farang : Thai tea with guava. I had the Thai tea last time and it was great. As a lover of guava this is amazing too. Would definitely recommend this unique drink. Definitely deserving to be on the Michelin recommended list and I look forward to coming back. read more

Dinner for 1. - Ambiance (4*) Nice vibe inside though quite packed. I sat outdoors to avoid a wait. They should invest a little more in the outside if they seat people here. - Service (5*) Friendly, informative, and attentive. - Lumpu Salad, $19 (5*) The scallops were so good, and then mixed together with everything else ... so good! Every herb on the plate had a purpose. - Moo Hong, $26 (4*) Not as tender as I would have expected. The plate also was more one note compared to the very vibrant salad. Overall still very good. - Value (4*) Considering New York, it's pretty good value. - Final Word Something new and unique for me. read more

crab curry ($32) - oml this curry was so good; it wasn't watery but with the right amount of thickness and spice - i love the massive chunk of crab provided; very fresh and slightly crunchy - it was such a good rice pairing... i didnt even notice i was really going ham with the rice until i noticed my bowl was about to be emptied... the sauce was just so good sator goong ($29) - ive never had this dish before but it was recommended and it was indeed delicious - the shrimp was jumbo and snappy - i wasnt sure what kind of pea they were using but it was bigger than the ones im familiar with and harder; i was quite a fan - this dish is on the spicier side but still handleable rating: 4.4/5 - all the dishes were definitely above average but i couldnt say much since we only ordered 2 which is ultimately hard to compare with other thai spots - given how much we liked the 2 dishes, we'd say it's a solid spot - service was crazily quick and our server was so welcoming and friendly - dining atmosphere was classy and comfy; it won't feel too loud, crowded, nor chaotic - id recommend trying if you're in the area! Came for a lunch reservation, every dish was a hit. Super strong flavors on everything, don't sleep on the appetizers! Very kind service. We ordered purely off of the photo menu since they seemed like the hottest menu items. - Pad thai southern style: I'm usually not a fan of pad thai but this one changed my mind. Sauce was creamy and the baby soybean sprouts were a nice touch. - Crab curry: very strong flavor and pretty spicy. Was super good at first but we had a hard time finishing as it was very rich. Recommend trying it though. - Baerng Golae: my favorite dish of the meal! Flavoring of the shrimp is great, creative with the sweet wafer shell. - Mango sticky rice: not as good as ones I've had in Thailand probably the best I've had in USA. Make sure to book on Resy! read more

Thai delight! Menu offers a great mix of food and drinks. The inside is nice and spacious with a modern look. My Cha-chak drink had fun flair with the Roti Bread on top. Cha - Chak (Yala): Ceylon tea, rye whiskey, butter fat wash bourbon, clarified milk punch and pandan syrup and grilled roti. The cocktail Leonardo on The Beach (Krabi) had fun presentation. ' The complimentary chicken wings were fun size- yummy, crunchy batter, and a delight. The Shrimp Fried Rice was plentiful and tasty! The noodle dish was savory goodness. Fun servers with wonderful service, both were kind and helpful. Overall a nice atmosphere for Thai dining with outstanding food and drinks. read more

The perfect pre-theater dinner. Fantastic Thai food, fun ambiance. Literally every dish was amazing. The Baerng Golae is like a Thai taco, coconut crisp over grilled shrimp smothered in this amazing yellow curry. Lumpu Salad: best salad ever! The sauce is amazing and the greens are great. Tom Sompla is a delicious soup, and Wok of Greens are a must - you always need a good veg. Sator Goong has stinky beans! Hard to find, spicy and delicious. The Goat Curry is so deeply flavorful, and it's served with a side of the best roti. Khao Pad Mun Goong is the first fried rice worth ordering. The jumbo shrimp still have the heads which adds so much extra flavor. Fantastic Thai food. Absolutely eat here anytime you can! read more

Superb Southern Thai food with creative takes on old standards and offerings you don't often see on Thai restaurant menus. Presentation and service was first rate. The Kee Mao Seafood had generous amounts of squid and correctly cooked shrimp that was not rubbery. Two of three stars still brought some heat. The dishes are the heat they offer with no modifications permitted. The chicken wings are small wings but we were loving them as they were crispy but not greasy and were on the house as we came for a very late lunch. The Phuket Pak Mor steamed dumplings were small but packed a punch with the salted coconut dressing. The two of us were split on whether those were good or great. Sad I didn't write down the drink combo as it was a special and doesn't appear on menus I can find. Very refreshing pineapple with a hint of red pepper on a piece of banana on the top with mint. read more

I'm a sucker for squid ink so it was no surprise that I ended up loving Chalong's Squid Ink Fried Rice ($29). It's been a few weeks since I ate here and their Tom Som Pla ($33) is not too memorable and I would likely skip it when I return. I do recall it having a nice sour taste to it though. The spice level for Sator Goong ($29) could not be adjusted, but I decided to try it anyway because I was intrigued. It was actually way too spicy for me, but still enjoyable nonetheless. I asked the waiter to stop by to give me lots of water if possible and he really stopped by frequently to check up on me. I did end up getting digestion from the meal due to how spicy it was, but I do plan to come back again! read more

The food here is amazing! The place is super busy but the food comes fast, and I mean like few minutes after we placed our order, apps were on the table! Even on a busy Saturday night. We ordered the crispy wings, crispy shrimp taco things, lumpu salad, crab dumplings, crab curry, brisket curry, pork belly, fried branzino, wok greens, squid fried rice and beef fried rice! We were a table of 6, and this was a lot of food. We didn't finish some of the mains but it's because we were stuffed not because it wasn't delicious. Everything had a delicious sweet, savory, spice. Just what I want from Thai food. I think our fave dishes of the meal were the fish, the beef fried rice, and the crab curry and wok greens! Staff were friendly too. I'd definitely go back. read more

the squid ink fried rice was the star of the show! super flavorful and very generous with the amount of seafood in the rice. the crab curry was decent but an insane combo is the curry sauce + the squid ink fried rice mmmmm so delicious!!! the baerng golae was also good the shell reminds me of this chinese coconut cookie/cracker that my grandparents used to give me. overall this is rlly good thai food it was so yummy! i think there might be a dining time limit but it was quite delicious so i don't mind. service fine and ambience pretty mid for nyc thai but the food saved it! read more

Made a reservation for 3 easily on a Friday night. The service was great and the interior is gorgeous. We ordered the shrimp appetizer which I highly recommend. For my entree, I ordered the southern pad Thai which was one of the best pad Thais I've tried. One thing however is that the portion sizes at this restaurant is very small. I would probably come back if I wanted to splurge! read more

We ordered 3 dishes and all were really good. The highlight: crab curry It had large pieces of crab meat and plenty of it. It was also topped with 1/2 a small piece of crispy soft crab. I wish it was a full soft crab on top (just that good) Runner up- lunch special kee mao. Comes with fried chicken wings for $19 (cheaper than most items on the menu). It's on the sweeter side of any pad kee mao I had but still good The massama duck is in a sweet curry sauce. You have to like sweet curry to enjoy it. For me, I would skip and try another item next time. read more

Excellent selection and execution of southern Thai cuisine. I'm familiar with the general cuisine and specialties of the north and northeast. The offerings is a nice introduction to the southern dishes and flavors. For a party of 2, we tried the Baerng Golae (shrimp and curry in a coconut taco) (we doubled this order because it's that good), Yum Som-O (pomelo salad with bits of fried fish), Lumpu Salad (scallops with fried shallots), and Phuket Pak Mor (steamed rice dumplings filled with sweet radish and peanuts) to start. For the mains, we got the Pla Tod (deep fried fish) and the Mee Pum Riang (Southern Style Pad Thai). Personally, while I enjoyed these with my friend who has dietary preferences, I would go back and try the other unique dishes. For dessert, we got the traditional mango and coconut rice and also the Thai tea ice cream. Some dishes are spicy but all are very flavorful. read more

My friend and I came here for dinner about a month ago and it didn't disappoint. It's not a huge space and you will most likely need a reservation (especially for a weekend), but it's worth it. For food, we ordered the peanut spring rolls which were pretty tasty. For entrees, we shared everything and ordered the sea bass, the wok greens, and the pad Thai. I liked the fish and the greens a lot, but the pad Thai had a lack of flavor to me. As for drinks, we ordered the after school and a Thai iced tea and both were very good. The service was good, but since they were so crowded, it felt very rushed at times. I don't know that I'd come running back here again. read more

My friends and I tried many dishes here and they were all so good! I was also starving after a long flight so everything we ordered really hit the spot: - sator goong: this was my favorite! so spicy and flavorful, tasted great over rice - squid ink fried rice - kee mao seafood - peek gai tod: these chicken wings were another standout, very crispy - khao pud mun neuer - thai tea: super refreshing, just the right sweetness and the pick-me-up I needed Service was also friendly and prompt! Our water glasses were always filled when running low, which was appreciated. Overall, I had a great time here catching up with my friends over amazing food. Another one of many good Thai spots in NYC. I went to Chalong for dinner with a friend and it was amazing. I love Thai restaurants that offer more specialized menus. We ordered: - pomelo salad - such a unique and delicious dish, the combo of ingredients surprised me but every bite is a flavor bomb - crab curry - steamed fish - longan sticky rice Everything was delicious, i have no complaints. It's a little tight, dark, and loud inside but it makes sense for a popular restaurant. Our waitress was great and provided helpful recommendations. I'd definitely go back to try more of their menu! read more

The Thai food selection in the city keeps getting better and better, and now I feel as though even if I've found the one Thai spot, there's another better one out there. We ordered: Cocktails- Leonardo on The Beach (Krabi) The Pirate of Tarutao (Satoon) Food- Platod Kee Mao Seafood I love that their cocktails menu has the corresponding image with the drink so there aren't any surprises / you know what to expect. The Pirate of Tarutao came in a cute barrel cup and the inside of the drink reminded me of a moscow mule (in the best way, of course!). The platod dish was everything I had never had before-a sweet soy glaze sauce on top of a mildly fried fish. The kee mao was a bit spicy, but had a tinge of sweetness. The service and quality of food are chef's kiss and it's safe to say, this is definitely part of my Thai rotation. This is truly one of the underrated Thai spots in the city that you won't really find on social media, and I'd love for it to stay that way... read more

We just returned to this popular souther Thai spot and had a great meal. We went on MLK Day for lunch and the place was full within minutes. Make a reservation! Baerng Golae (coconut crisp grilled shrimp and famous curry paste from southern Thailand): still mouthwatering. Seafood Platod (deboned fried whole fish, sweet fish sauce, fried garlic and julienne scallion): still a great large dish to share. The branzino is not dry and the sauce is delicious. Mee Pum Riang (southern style pad Thai): very yummy. The coconut sauce is creamy and flavorful. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

If you're writing that Chalong is "another good NYC Thai place" you should have your Yelp reviewer credentials revoked. Chalong is probably the most exciting restaurant I've encountered this year. Potato appetizer better than any Indian preparation. The goat here makes Dhamaka's seem ordinary. The Pad Thai was like nothing I'd ever had. The pork belly was a work of art like in the royal palace in Taipei. We ate every grain and morsel presented to us. Services was extremely fast, seating was uncomfortable. Top tier beyond any shadow of a doubt. read more

My partner and I had lunch here a few weeks back, and this is quickly become one of our favorite restaurants that we can't stop raving about to our friends. The ambience during lunchtime was nice because it wasn't too packed and our seat by the window was perfect for people watching. The staff is extremely attentive and made sure that our meal and experience was spectacular from the beginning to the end. We ordered the scallop salad, which was hands down one of the best dishes. It was tangy, spicy, crunchy, and the scallops were fresh. Put that all together and it was everything you want in a well balanced bite! We also ordered the softshell crab curry, which was flavorful and packed with so much spice. There was a little snafu with one of our dishes. My partner and I were not going to bring it to their attention, however, the staff was so attentive that they came over right away to check in on us. Was really excited for this spot as there were more reservation slots open than Fish Cheeks which I've been wanting to go to (next time I guess)! This is a thai place in Hell's Kitchen just a block away from many of the broadway theaters, so was the perfect spot to hit up before seeing Wicked. It's super packed, like only a few inches between tables, and kinda loud inside so perhaps not the best ambiance, but the decor was decent. The duck confit massaman curry was absolutely delicious. The duck was nice and crispy despite sitting in the curry, and had more meat than it looked. The curry had an intense yet tasty flavor, and the potatoes and radishes were nice. The rice was a perfect accompaniment and had a nice texture. The small plum onion was pickled just a tad much than I liked but was an interesting addition to the dish. The steamed fish (Chilean sea bass filet) was a super small portion size for $35 but the sauce it was in was delightfully nuanced, with a complex citrus based flavor. I'd recommend ordering an appetizer to beef up your fullness level here. They didn't have a physical dessert menu, but verbally told us about the homemade thai tea ice cream with wonton crisps and brown sugar boba which sounded good. Little did we know it turned out to be $16 at least the ice cream was tasty. It definitely tasted like the ice cream version of a very good thai iced tea, and the wonton crisps were nice and crunchy. I would've ordered the actual drink if it wasn't priced at $9 Overall delicious offerings here, but a bit pricey for the portions. Definitely would come back though! read more

Clean great service excellent choice of menu love this restaurant , most recommended by our friends at Gran Havana cigars in San Diego.

Absolutely loved the flavors of every dish we ordered: * Baerng Golae - 3 thin coconut crisp shell tacos; the perfect crunch for a bite into the shrimp + curry filling * Yum Sum-O - refreshing pomelo salad with shallot and fish sauce dressing * Kee Mao Seafood - noodles tossed with shrimp/squid, reminded me of pad see ew * Goat Curry - my favorite dish of the meal! the braised goat was prepared well and the curry sauce with roti was perfect Only thing to note is our waiter did try to upsell us on getting more dishes "because we're Michelin", so that was a bit off-putting (especially because of how obvious he made it). We ended up swapping an entree for one of his recommended appetizers instead of ordering both, and left feeling perfectly full.
