Went here for dinner with a group of friends on a rainy night. We made a reservation in advance and were seated right away. Service was fast and friendly, and the servers did a nice job introducing the dishes. We ordered the xiao long bao along with several other dishes. Judging from the interior, I honestly wasn't expecting too much at first because the restaurant felt a little Americanized rather than traditionally Chinese. But once the food came out, I was very pleasantly surprised! Everything tasted fresh and delicious, and even the kids loved it. The portions aren't huge, but the quality is very good. Came here before going to a show- reservation was for 5pm on a Tuesday- is was initially empty and by 6:30 it was packed. It's one of those places where you order from a tablet and if you need to order a cocktail or a server, you have to press a call waitstaff button. This is not my cup of tea but.... We ordered a bunch of items- should have taken pictures of the screens but forgot to do so. We ordered the Artisan Dim Sum Platter, the Signature Bao Platter, and possibly the shrimp dumplings (can't remember). These all were fine, but I felt like they needed salt and the sauces weren't doing it for me. We also ordered a shrimp dish- I think maybe the one with garlic sauce and also traditional savory sauce noodles. The shrimp were huge and tender, I almost thought they were undercooked, that's how soft they were. The noodles were put together by the server at the table which was interesting, but I felt these dishes also needed salt/ slightly bland. I'd actually come back but ask for salt or a salty sauce/ I'd like to try the American fusion menu. I know, don't judge me! This hot stone braised rice was incredible. The rice and mushroom sauce came packed separately, so I mixed everything together at home before eating. The aroma hit immediately. The rice was perfectly cooked--each grain was plump, slightly chewy, and honestly some of the best rice I've had in a long time. Every grain was coated in the rich porcini sauce, making it impossible to stop eating. And I'm usually not even a big rice person. There was just a tiny hint of spice (or maybe pepper), but it was perfectly balanced and added a little extra depth without overpowering the dish. The porcini mushrooms were soft, silky, and full of flavor. Even the green peppers and scallions were delicious and added great texture. Absolutely worth trying. Updating my review as they recently updated their menu. The menu still has almost everything though I noticed they removed the shredded garlic pork, rice cakes, and the mapo tofu (they only offer mapo tofu with beef brisket in a pumpkin now). Most tragically, they removed the crispy lava from the dessert menu!! I really hope they bring it back because it was outstanding and I am not a dessert person. Maybe because it took 10min to make it was too long, but I can attest that the wait was worth it. We have been to Blue Blossom a dozen times over the last year because the food is simply divine and the service is friendly and attentive. The space is nicely decorated with two floors of seating. We have taken many people here and everyone has loved it which tells you how good this place is. Side note: Depending on what time you go for lunch, they may not have the peking duck ready but it is always ready for dinner. The food is what makes this place special which I documented in more detail in my previous review but will briefly elaborate on here. The soup dumplings (we love the wagyu beef, but the mala beef is our favorite) are the best we have had. The pork buns are very tasty though I will have to try the new char siu puff pastry appetizer they added. The cumin lamb is superb as is the puff pastry beef brisket stew and peking duck. The satay beef with glass noodles in a clay pot is good, but practically drowning in sauce. We tried their new entree, the five spice beef which was delicious, the meat was tender and coated in crunchy spices, but the portion size was too small for the $40 price tag. We still need to try the salt baked chicken as we always see people ordering it. We love this place and plan to keep going every month or so. Group of 7 ladies ordered fried mushrooms, pan fired bao, pickled cucumbers as the appetizers and cumin lamb, clay roasted chicken, stir fried beef with cilantro, spicy tofu in a pumpkin, and mushroom with rice in the clay pot. Everything was delicious especially lamb, beef and chicken, and rice. The spicy tofu was a new dish for me and overly seasoned in my opinion. And I don't like the taste of pumpkin anyway. The Chinese food was so delicious. Almost everything we ordered was a hit: the stir fried cabbage, pork belly, beef chow fun, string beans, pork buns, and the hot stone braised rice. The hot stone braised rice was my favorite; the braised sauce went so well with the rice. The beef chow fun was also cooked very well. The pork buns had a delicious soup inside. I thought the black pepper beef was fine; the sauce was good but the meat was okay. The chicken soup dumplings were also kind of weird--we only got them because they were out of everything but that and Wagyu beef. On the table is a Passionfruit Oolong, regular lemonade drink, 2 bowls of rice, wagyu beef soup dumplings, Mongolian beef, and Sesame beef. I hope this was an anomaly and not a permanent thing but last time I came here the quality and quantity of the food had done down significantly enough for it to be noticed. In particular this was true of their Peking duck. The portions were way smaller than normal. Maybe they are trying to get 1.2 or 1.5 dishes out of each duck to cut costs. Maybe they only had smaller ducks that day. Also, quality of the other foods were not up to par with the numerous times I've been there. There was just something slightly off. Food here is solid, especially considering the general quality of Chinese food in Manhattan. We started with the wagyu beef soup dumplings, which were tasty. The pork and shrimp pan-fried dumplings were also a good choice. For the main, we had the half Peking duck. The portion is on the smaller side compared to other spots, but the presentation was thoughtful. The pancakes came individually separated by baking paper and had a great "Q" texture, a bit of the nice chewiness. The sauce is good, and they serve it with sliced cantaloupe alongside the usual cucumber and scallions, which actually makes for a really great wrap. The Shanghai fried noodles with chicken were a highlight. They had authentic wok chi (鑊氣), which is hard to find and made the dish feel very genuine. Dessert was a bit of a letdown. We ordered the mango pomelo sago, but the mango tasted canned rather than fresh. It came with very small amount of the sago; they definitely need to add more. On the drinks side, the happy hour is a great deal with plenty of $10 options. I got a glass of prosecco. I also tried their signature Blue Blossom cocktail. It is cool concept, but the flavors didn't really mesh well and it wasn't that impressive. The bartender is really cool and friendly, which added to the vibe. Beautiful Chinese restaurant known for its Peking Duck. First impression upon walking in is that this place is very classy. Also noticed that nearly every table had been served the Peking Duck. So of course we took the hint and ordered a Half Size portion of Peking Duck to share with my wife. Only mistake was not going with the full order. The duck was very nicely prepared and presented, nothing like how they do it in China. So for me, I loved it. Just take the tortilla wrap, add a few slices of meat, a veggie and the sauce and eat. Fabulous. We also shared an order of pork soup dumplings which were also top shelf (note we eat pork soup dumplings monthly, so these were good). Draft beer was also nice, the brand was new to me. Ambiance, nice. Service, nice but kind of slow to get the food. Bathrooms, nice. Flavor of food, alright. Temperature of food, lukewarm to cold. All of it! We did have one dish that was hot. It was manageable but I couldn't believe the peking duck wasn't even warm. That one was just cold. It also seemed old, like they cooked it a while ago because it was dry. We told the waiter it wasn't hot and he took the duck away and came back in less than 5 minutes with a warmer duck. It still wasn't hot. Ah well. The hoisin sauce was very salty. The soup dumplings, tasty, were also not hot. I've never had a soup dumpling where the basket wasn't steaming hot when it came out. I still can't get over how a Chinese restaurant didn't serve us hot food. It wasn't very crowded when we were there so not sure what was the issue. Maybe we were forgotten. Items were accompanied with crystal clear photos, it was easy to navigate, and all of our questions were answered in appreciated detail. We ordered the following: Steamed Vegetable Dumplings. They were artistically created/presented and the dipping sauces (soy, sweet, spicy) elevated the taste exquisitely. The other selection was the Wagyu Beef Xiao Long Bao. These Shanghai-style soup dumplings were wrapped in colorful/delicate wrappers and were scrumptious. The beef was tender, the juices inside fully enveloped every inch of each dumpling and both items are highly recommended. To cap this meal, we shared the Mango Pomelo Sago. This is a popular, refreshing Hong Kong-style dessert soup made with mango, pomelo, and sago pearls, blended with a creamy base of coconut and evaporated milk. Came here for dinner without a reservation on a Tuesday night and got a table without a problem. The restaurant was spacious and welcoming and we were greeted with a friendly hostess as soon as we walked in. We ordered various dishes to share including their pork XLB, steamed veggie dumplings, hot and sour soup, stir fried string beans, duck fried rice, salted baked chicken and beef brisket stew with puff pastry and wine sauce. Their XLB was excellent. Just the right size, not too big and not too small, juicy, flavorful, and the skin was delicate yet durable with a QQ texture. It was so good we had to order another one. I also really liked their veggie dumplings. Their dumpling skin was just as good as the XLB and it's packed with flavor even though it was just veggies. I also enjoined their hot and sour soup. When I order hot and sour soup from different restaurants, it's never sour enough for me and I would always have to request vinegar on the side. I was surprised the flavors of the soup here were well balanced and I did not have to add additional vinegar to it. Their duck fried rice was also one of our favorite. It came out pipping hot with a lot of "wok Hei". It was flavorful yet not too salty and also had a lot of meat inside. The salted baked chicken was good but I can't say I was completely impressed with it. The presentation was a little gimmicky and I was told it's not moutai wine inside the bottle and it was just for show. Aside from that, I found the chicken to be a little too salty to my liking but the ginger and scallion sauce was very fragrant and helped neutralize the saltiness of the chicken. The meat however, was very juice and tender. The stir fried string beans, I found it a little bland and some of the strings were still attached which made it hard to chew. The beef stew, while we liked the puff pastry and the beef was tender, there were no red wine taste at all. It was literally just a tomato beef stew and I found it to be a little too sour. Our server was very friendly and attentive. They also have happy food from 5-7pm on weekdays so they have a limited drink menu for $10 during that time. Overall, we had a great time dining at blue blossom. Although some of the dishes were a miss for me, I think their dumplings are very solid. I also saw a lot of people ordering their Peking duck so I would want to return to try that out. One of the best indicator is that by the time we were done with our meal, the restaurant was pretty much packed on a week night and they were mostly Asians which indicates the food is authentic and good. read more

My friends and I made a reservation ahead of time for dinner. We arrived early, and the hostess was very accommodating. First, the interior was beautiful. There was a beautiful bar by the entrance, there were beautiful lanterns hanging from the ceiling, and the seating inside was very open and spacious. At the end of the restaurant, you could even see the soup dumplings being made. Second, two out of the three cocktails we got were delicious. The peach blossom glaze and the jade green cocktails were excellent; the velvet white one was too bitter for me. Finally, the food itself was incredible. While it was good, I didn't pick up any of the truffle flavor, so I would probably skip getting this and opt for the regular or regular + crab as both were delicious. I saw this place on Tiktok and wanted to bring my mom to try this place out. The place itself is beautiful and very spacious - there is two floors so plenty of seating but you do not feel squished at all. The staff was very friendly and the service was great - everything came out very quickly. My mom and I decided to get the beef shanghai fried noodles - these had great flavor but it was not anything special. I feel like it was standard lo main but at a higher price point. Then we got their signature salted baked chicken - this was one of their highly recommended dishes and it was pretty unique. It is half a chickened covered with salt and then they present it to you they light it up with a fire so there is a big of a charred taste. The chicken was just alright - the meat was tender but some parts did not have as much taste compared to other parts. I came for Chinese Mew Year and it was extremely packed. It was reservation only but we still had to wait 10-20 minutes packed in the front like sardines with all the other ppl who booked at the same time. The waitress was extremely friendly, she kept making jokes with us and was super light hearted which I loved. We ended up getting the sour fish, roasted duck, and soup dumplings. The sour fish was exceptional! Exactly how I imagine it to taste like, no odd tastes or anything like at their sister restaurant Szechuan Mountain House. Theirs used to be really good but I think something changed and it tastes a bit weird now. Maybe they moved the chef here. As for the roast duck, I'm not really sure why it's advertised as a roast Peking duck. The Peking name adds like $20 it's just a roast duck with peking duck sides. It was alright, not the best roast duck I've had. An extra plate of pancakes cost $6 for 6 extra pancakes. The soup dumplings were good. The skin was nice. The different flavors didn't taste that different. I think the only one that tasted much different was the truffle one. read more

This is one of my favorite modern Chinese restaurants I've been to in Manhattan. Similar vibes to Uluh and Mountain House. It's really nicely decorated inside and quite spacious. There's also a bar near the front. I made a reservation a couple weeks in advance for dinner since I had heard that it's been pretty busy here. All of the servers were so nice and really helpful. One server even gave us a heads up that there was a newer menu coming out, so we got to order one of the new desserts from that menu. The ordering system is very efficient, since you have everything you need on a tablet. Portion sizes are not bad, we were two people and ended up having leftovers. We ordered: - 1/2 Peking duck (5/5) would have been better if the wraps were kept warm, but I thought it was great that they had a tea light candle to keep the duck warm, and they had all of the components that I like to have when eating this dish, such as cucumber, scallions, plum sauce and sugar. I thought it was very unique that they had melon as well. - Beef tongue (3/5) the beef itself was good, but wow was this dish spicy! There were so many peppers in this dish. - Pea Shoots (5/5) can't go wrong with this dish! - Jasmine matcha jelly (4/5) The presentation is incredible, and the jelly was good, but I think it would've been nicer if the lotus flower had a flavor such as coconut (it was flavorless) - Mochi (5/5) this was a new dessert that had fermented rice wine, and to be honest, I was skeptical when I saw the description, but oh my goodness this mochi was incredible! I don't know how they made this dessert, but it was so good and the mochi was the perfect consistency. Something I appreciated was the packaging of the to go bag. It's a nice sturdy reusable bag that has a sticky top that you can fold over in order to secure the opening of the bag. read more

The xiao long bao platter was a nice variety of unique flavors and probably the best ive had in nyc so far. The beef tongue was very tender and the crabmeat tofu was good (not as good as Che Li) but i was disappointed by the eggplant, wasnt nearly as good as i had in china. The meaty texture of the mushrooms made me forget this dish didn't even have meat! ＊Crab Sauce Over Noodles 蟹粉拌麵 $25 The crab sauce was thick and velvety with a bold peppery kick. I could barely taste any crab tbh. I love modern classic Chinese cuisine and this restaurant was absolutely fantastic. Every detail is thought out. Even their bathroom smells like jasmine when I walked in. I was blown by the decor. It had a modern asian accent but still feeling minimalistic. As for the restaurant, it was cozy, comforting yet spacious vibe. The restaurant buzzing when I walked in and right away I knew I was in for a treat. We dine with a party of 8 people and everything was well organized. The staff was very profession, well dressed and help made our experience feel wonderful. As for their dishes, it was very authentic with a twist like their truffle soup dumplings. It was so good with a hint of truffle and the quality was outstanding. I also like their peking duck. The meat was tender and the duck didn't taste oily. As for desert, I highly recommend their buns with salted egg yolk. It was so creamy, hot and not too sweet. It just tasted perfect. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Duck dumplings very good but could use a little more kick imo Bolete peppers and rice excellent. Hot stone bowl a great touch keeping the rice hot. Perfectly seasoned. Delicious new Szechuan restaurant in Midtown in a modern, beautiful setting! Would definitely recommend getting their signature Peking Duck and Salted Baked Chicken. The pork in garlic sauce was a little dry but still good. The shenjian bao were good as well, although I wish they were a bit crispier. We also got the soybean pudding with taro ice cream for dessert, which was even more delicious than I expected. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and would love to come back to try their lazi chicken and more classic Sichuan dishes next time :) My only complaint is that the service was really slow. We waited 20 minutes for our first dish, and then another 20 between the following dishes coming out. Manhattan, NY (midtown west) - a new contemporary Chinese restaurant that just opened in November, Blue Blossom showcases the regional flavors of China in a modern and elevated way, while maintaining authenticity and tradition. It is helmed by the same husband-wife team that operates the lauded CheLi and Szechuan Mountain House. We started with the SIGNATURE BAO PLATTER, with six different colored xiao long bao of different flavors. The XLB is incredible, some of the best I've had: soupy, flavorful, and with impossibly thin skin. My child picked the black (truffle) and yellow ones and devoured both. 5/5 The SLICED PORK BELLY WITH GARLIC SAUCE, wrapped around julienned cucumber, is unexpectedly light and non-greasy, in a delicious chili oil sauce that I could've dipped everything in. 5/5 HOT STONE BEEF TENDON - a standout dish, with soft chewy tendons braised in a generous heap of chestnuts. Not at all dense or sinewy as tendon could be. Slightly spicy. Lots of collagen in tendons so it's great for skin & joints! 5/5 SHANGHAI FRIED NOODLES - we ordered this with chicken which was tender. Great flavor, not your average chow mein. My foodie toddler highly approves and hoarded this one for himself. 5/5 FISH FILLET IN SOUR CABBAGE SOUP - with either flounder or blackfish. The soup is hearty and flavor-packed, with a ton of flaky fish fillets and black mushrooms. Be careful that the fish has a few small bones in it. The sharp flavor of the pickled sour cabbage punches through the sweet & sour broth. My mother thought it too acidic while I found it a tad too sweet. This soup is usually eaten with rice, which should accompany this dish, but we had to order a side of rice separately. 4/5 TEPPAN SHRIMP comes out on a sizzling cart iron pot. It took me a minute to identify the taste which is an exotic garlic-cumin seasoning blend that transcends the properties of each. 4/5 The TEAS are very nice as well. I eyed the SEAFOOD BISQUE enviously at a neighboring table, which comes in a fancy soup bowl, but we had too much food already so have to save this for next time. All the dishes are generously portioned. For dessert, I was torn between the strawberry/green tea shaved ice and the MANGO POMELO SAGO, and went with the latter as it's less common. It's a fruity tropical pudding and I don't love puddings, but am glad I tried it. 3/5 Service was great and attentive without being overbearing. Our waitress seemed cool and was lovely. At one point, the manager came by to check on us when he saw us reading our menus a while and waved over our server. (We weren't waiting - just taking a looong time to decide what to order and the waitress had already come by a couple of times...but it's nice he noticed.) My toddler got his own set of mini metal utensils with a plastic bowl, cute. The only shortcoming was that they ran out of certain cocktail ingredients, but I chalk that up to opening kinks which will be worked out in due course. I wanted the order the Osmanthus but only about half the menu was available so I settled for the Lily Bulb. However, the cocktail menu is exquisite. read more
