MUK TOM NUM DUM
Ben D.

Excellent thai spot I got stop here after the NYC half marathon staff were so nice and friendly. I had my bags to travel back home and they were very accommodating. I started with dumplings which were very flavorful but a bit to thick so they tasted more doughy. The filling was nice and flavorful so I think just either a less thick pastry or more filling would make a great improvement to the dish. The filling is with pork and had great seasoning to add some freshness with what tasted like lemon grass. I got for my main course the khoa soi a noodle curry with chicken. It was excellent had such nice flavor rich and spicy. The chicken was extremely tender. The noodles were nice and soft while the fried noodles served with the dish added great texture to the dish. Interior its a smaller place but very nice inside has a modern look and s bar with a bunch of seats. They also have a bunch of tables. It was just me when I went so sat at the bar. Overall cant wait to go back.

We started with the Gai Tod khamin (chicken wings)--on the smaller side but SO crispy and packed with flavor. The turmeric and garlic combo is something I would've never thought of, but it worked perfectly. Definitely a must-try appetizer. My husband ordered the chicken pad Thai. He mentioned the noodles were a bit overcooked, but the flavor was still really good and the presentation was on point. I went with the chicken pad ki mao (drunken noodles), and wow--super tasty with a nice spicy kick! The restaurant was pretty busy and we didn't have reservations, but the hostess still accommodated us and let us know upfront that we had a limited time at the table. Not sure if it was due to no reservation or just the fast-paced environment, but it's something to keep in mind. That said, the service was attentive and efficient. Overall, I'd definitely come back if I'm in the neighborhood!

A new Thais food gem discovery! Highly recommend their seafood! The steamed branzino is the BEST I've ever had, they do it better than any other Thai restaurant in nyc. River prawns were really fresh and the pumpkin curry with soft shell crab was flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. The most disappointing dish was the crying tiger, which was also their most popular dish. Steak is way too chewy and overcooked, while the garlic rice is flavorful, the steak just ruins it. Mango sticky rice was also disappointing but the coconut ice cream was perfect Ambiance: place gets super packed, and get ready for a tight squeeze with the neighboring tables

solid food and extremely interesting drinks!! it did take a while for our food to come out on a busy night but it was worth the wait! steamed fish was decent (I do prefer fish cheeks though). crab fried rice has generous portions of crab, greens were good, and crying tiger steak was rich and delicious. a standout of the meal was the khao soi drink. never thought a savory dish would be so delicious as a drink but my mind has been changed! worth a try!!

Been wanting to try this Thai spot in HK since its opening. With no same day reservations available and having a couple hours to kill before a broadway show, we walked in around 5pm and were able to snag bar seats. Within 15 minutes the place was full. The vibe was reminiscent of the beaches of southern Thailand and the cocktails really teleported us to that side of the globe. (We ordered the Phuket night & Siam smiles). The food did not fail to disappoint. In fact, probably some of the best (?!) Thai food I've had in the city. We started with the grilled prawn appetizers which easily fell out of their shells and tasted fresh. Those prawns really served as a palate cleanser as for what was to come. The Khao Soi and fried branzino followed quickly. The fried branzino was fried to perfection with amazing flavors and nice meaty chunks of fish with perfectly crisp skin being easily poachable from the bony spine, with no problems of spiky visitors in either of our mouths. Im pretty sure I ate every part of that fish that I could. The only thing I would maybe avoid is eating too many of the peppers at once The Khao Soi was also incredible, with the chicken falling entirely off the bone. I honestly wish I took a photo of the bone to tell the tale. The base had a perfect coconut milk base with a hint of spice dashed in. The mix of the crunchy crackers with the meat and noodles had us both slurping to completion. Well done, LumLum. We'll definitely be back.

Really delicious everything! Whipped lemonade: 5/5 Crying tiger: 5/5 (loved this!) Green curry: 4/5 Pad see ew: 4/5 Crab fried rice: 5/5 Staff was friendly and attentive. My only slight complaint is that the table was very small for 4 people, such that there wasn't enough room to put all the dishes and for people to have their own plates to eat family style.

I was SO excited to try lumlum but my expectations fell short... The interior is charming, a little loud, and also busy. My friend and I were seated in an awkward location behind a wall and in the middle of our meal another chair was shoved into the side of the table.. and then after it was left there servers were constantly tripping over it for the rest of the dinner . I was so excited to try the crying tiger but it was honestly just okay. Some of the cuts of meat were insanely fatty with almost no sear on them which was a little off putting. Rice had a nice flavor though. I want to believe I just came on an off day because many of my friends love this place!

This was my second visit to LumLum, and I'm still impressed by how consistently delicious their khao soi is, and that says a lot because I'm super picky when it comes to khao soi. The dishes are deeply flavorful and thoughtfully executed, served in a lively yet comfortable atmosphere. We ordered the beef tartare, crying tiger, khao soi gai, thai milk tea, and mango sticky rice for dessert. Highly recommend the spicy beef tartare with taro fries for its great kick of heat and flavor. The khao soi gai is always my go-to (I'm a sucker for crispy fried noodles), and the chicken was so tender it slid right off the bone. The crying tiger was tasty, though the garlic rice was on the saltier side. Mango sticky rice was a solid, satisfying finish. Service was incredibly friendly and efficient. We never felt rushed, even after losing track of time while catching up. A great spot for date night or dinner with friends; definitely somewhere I'll be returning to.

I was super hyped to try LumLum however the IRL experience fell rather short. Their location is a bit inconvenient and past Times Square towards the grungy area of Hell's Kitchen. The space is beautifully decorated to fit the vibe that you are away someplace warm and Tiki esque even though we are in the midst of a quite cold Winter. We ordered: Crying Tiger Khao Soi Gai Guava Plum Fizz Lychee Juice They aren't that flexible as some Thai restaurants and don't really allow you to sub protein mains for dishes from the Signature Dishes / House Specials section of the menu. Because of this, the chicken from my dish was left untouched. I wouldn't necessarily stop by LumLum for the usual Pad Thai / Pad See Ew / Pad Kee Mao as you can order this anywhere else. Service is attentive and your water glasses will never be empty, but the lack of flexibility and only one bathroom weren't enough for me to cosign this place as a recommendation to others.

Came here on a friend's recommendation since we were only in town for a few hours. We originally wanted to go to Soothr, but it was fully booked, so this was our backup Thai option nearby. Even though all reservations were open 24 hours before, the place filled up quickly after 7pm. It's a small, cozy spot, so I'd definitely recommend booking ahead--there were plenty of walk-ins even on a Monday night. Being just a 10-minute walk from Rockefeller Plaza also made it a super convenient stop after an evening stroll. I ordered the Crying Tiger because I wanted something protein-heavy, and it seemed to be a popular item. The steak itself was great, but the garlic fried rice and shallots didn't have as much flavor as I expected--almost like a Filipino breakfast steaksilog on paper but not quite in execution. My friend got the Khao Pad Tom Yum and absolutely loved it. Tons of flavor and exactly what he wanted: fried rice, tom yum, and seafood all in one dish. For an appetizer, the waiter recommended the grilled river prawn. Tasty, but at $18 for two prawns, it didn't feel worth it. The green sauce it came with was delicious though--I ended up using the rest to boost the flavor of my Crying Tiger. Overall, I'd come back for the convenience and ambiance, and maybe try different dishes next time.

I really enjoyed my meal here! Crying tiger steak and grilled river prawn were both really amazing. The gang fak tong had such good soft-shell crab, and I actually really liked the pumpkin curry in it too, it's pretty spicy! I love the cheerful and tropical vibe inside. The staff are so kind and attentive, even when they are busy.

CRYING TIGER

Been here multiple times and it never disappoints. The Crying Tiger is quite popular and quite good (the garlic rice is fantastic), but I actually love the steamed branzino, which has an amazing broth. The pad Thai is great too; I love that they have a unique take on the display. The kra prow is as flavorful as it is spicy! It's always pretty busy when I'm here, so best to make a reservation. By happenstance, the last two times I've been here, it's been in a group of three, for which they have the perfect table for.

Wow! What a fantastic and thai meal to remember at Lum Lum. Not surprising that Lum Lum means "Delicous". My wife did a lot of research before choosing Lum Lum for dinner in Hells Kitchen. Note: this place is popular! So reservations are highly recommended. We came on a Friday night and oh boy it was slammed! My wife made a reservation well in advance and they had a table waiting for us when we arrived at our reservation time. Primo service and kind servers add to the 5 star restaurant Lum Lum is. We ordered Khao Soi, Crying Tiger, and a Fried Pork for appetizer. Cocktail drinks were fantastic as well. 5 solid stars for Lum Lum and thank you for a stellar meal!

Would this place be appropriate for older kids (10+) on a Saturday evening? Not worried about options (my kids love good food) but whether the vibe is family friendly or more date-nightish.

Is it possible to buy a gift certificate to the restaurant?

I would call or message the restaurant. Website does not show gift cards

I'd like to make a reservation but can't seem to find a way to do it? I've read that others have but see nothing on the website and when I call the phone number it goes to an automated message about the mailbox. Is there a way to make a reservation?

When we visited, it was first-come, first-served, with a short line forming outside when there was a wait.

May we bring our own wine/beer and us there a corkage fee?

Yes - there is a decent wine store across the street. And, the three times I've been there has not been a corkage fee.

Considering the hectic 48hrs of non-stop traveling and celebrations, I would've been satisfied with a simple takeout meal to end the weekend but to my surprise, one of the best experiences of the trip was yet to come. Thankfully I was blessed with great friends to recommend this exceptional establishment known as Mitr Thai in Midtown Manhattan. Though the trip was centered around a wedding, my experience here instantly became the highlight of my trip to the City. One very genuine friend arranged this dinner, making a reservation for 3 for 7:30pm. To our surprise, we actually made it from Connecticut, walked from Grand Central and to Mitr Thai at 7:25pm even though they won't seat you until your entire party is there. After passing through the scaffolding, the restaurant has a two-door entry, one host after another, leading to a quaint but alluring lobby area. We were greeted by both hosts even though we were bogged down with luggage. The space was welcoming and had a sense of elegance as there was a blend of hardwood furnishings, low lighting and a heavy dose of Thai art/fixtures. For context: Labor Day Monday, at 7-8pm, there was a steady demand as the waiting bench remained full. There were even guests standing but even as more people came in, people were being seated at a consistent rate. Our 3rd friend arrived closer to 8pm and we were seated immediately. Our bags were placed in a small room behind the host podium and we were seated 20-30 meters from the door along the wall facing the bar. The menus were very comprehensive: large, descriptive and filled with graphics that left me wondering if I could try it all. I couldn't praise our server (Mindy) enough. She knew the kitchen, bar and any/all offerings like her own name. She had individual recommendations for each of us AND ADDITIONAL OPTIONS. I listened, ordered the Short Rib Prik Kang and indulged in a Verdant Whisper (Tequila, Cucumber, Lime). I'm not sure how but our food arrived less than 15mins later! The short rib looked good enough to make the entire restaurant jealous: the curry paste glistened in the light, the aroma called my name while the garnishes winked at me. To my disbelief, as good as it looked, it tasted even better! The sauce was robust, smooth, creamy & just spicy enough. Since the ribs slid off the bone, I mixed in the white mixed rice and ate it as a meal. I can proudly say I've never had anything like it. Oh yeah, the cocktail? Smooth, refreshing and relaxing. Worth every penny. I was elated with the overall experience and chose to pay for both of my friend's meals. My only regret is not having more to tip! Mindy gave us the table to chat for another 30mins but in the back of my mind I was still enamored from the meal. I had no expectations when I entered Mitr Thai but I left with a sincere amount of praise and admiration. From cuisine to the hospitality down to the furnishings, dining here was one of the best overall experiences I've had in YEARS. I cannot say enough about this establishment and I hope they Always Strive & Prosper.

We were seated immediately on the second floor. The restaurant had a chic, sophisticated interior, with black and gold accents and wood furniture. A large spiral fringe chandelier hung from the ceiling. While the environment indeed was upscale, the food still retained that cozy, home-cooked element known to Thai cuisine. I split the short rib curry and pork cheek with my husband. The curry was creamy with a kick of heat. The beef pull-apart tender. I'm salivating just thinking about it now. The pork cheek was delicious as well. It had the taste and texture of pork belly, which paired splendidly with the sweet and tangy fish sauce it came with. Others from my party ordered the masaman curry and a type of noodle (I think it was the pad kee mao?), and they all approved of their dishes. The drinks were wonderful as well, so distinctly Thai and inventive. I highly doubt you'll find anything here that isn't excellent.

Not all midtown restaurants stay open past 10, and I was relieved to find their kitchen going strong at that hour, as well as their dining space, which was full. Turned out it was for good reason because their food was delicious. My friend and I were hoping to eat at a restaurant nearby specializing in crab, but they closed much earlier. Fortunately for us, SaiTong's menu had plenty of crab on it, and we decided to double up and make each of our entree's a crab one. The black spaghetti crab curry and crab curry noodles advertised themselves as being very different dishes in both presentation and ingredients but ended up tasting kind of similar. One was topped with deep fried crab and used a different type of noodle than the other, but the sauces were so similar. This is not to say that they didn't taste good, but I would've preferred more variance. I'm glad we got an order of papaya salad to cut the richness of the other dishes, and I also appreciated it had a nice level of heat in it. Our servers were really friendly without being overbearing, and let us linger for a bit even after we paid the bill, as it was their last seating for the evening. There are so many excellent Thai restaurants in the city and I'd put SaiTong firmly in the category of perfectly solid spots to get your Thai fix, with some special dishes on the chef's menu worth checking out.
