New location in Temple City! There are soo many Phoenix restaurants nearby already but I guess yay for having an even closer location to my house? hehe. This new location is quite modern and nice...it even has a little water fall thing outside when you walk in from the parking lot. This is the biggest Phoenix in the area as well (probably 4x bigger than the Arcadia location). There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. One problem I can foresee is parking. The parking lot is kind of squishy and you have to enter from a back alley. If it were full, it would be very difficult to get your car in and out. I would probably just find street parking. Another thing is that there was a sign saying that the parking lot closes at 10pm...but the restaurant closes at midnight or later? Not sure I understand why that is... Overall, this will definitely be my go-to location for when I'm craving grass jelly tapioca or black sesame dessert nomnom :) read more

The dishes were pretty good but nothing too special. The noodles were a bit too oily. Thr best was the porridge because it was so warming and satisfying to have on anyday. We got the 1000 year egg porridge and it was delicious! The highlight of the overall meal however were the unique desserts. There were so many different ones that it was difficult to choose but the ones we got, matcha mochi, fresh mango with black sticky rice, and mango pomelo sago, were really good. 15 of my relatives and I are happy campers after visiting this new Phoenix location. I think between all of us we ordered nearly every dessert! My dad's favorite was the durian rolls... Stinky! I liked the black sesame ice cream with silky tofu and tapioca the best as it wasnt too sweet. My second favorite was the mango shaved ice even though the mangos werent quite ripe and still super tangy. Note that the shaved ice isnt the super fluffy snow type of shaved ice. Nonetheless it was tasty and the condensed milk and simple syrup made it irresistible. My aunt liked the black sticky rice with coconut as it was sweet and aromatic. We also ordered the fish ball rice noodle soup which my grandpa devoured. The dining area was spacious and we didnt have to wait for a table. Service was friendly and just needs a little bit of time for the kinks to be worked out. We got to meet one of the owners whom was very nice and accommodating. This Phoenix just opened up a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to try it. The only thing Ive ever tried at Phoenix before were their dessert drinks. I didn't know they had legit food either. Well anyways, I came here on a Monday afternoon for a quick lunch. This place took me by surprise. Environment - wow, what can I say. It is the biggest Phoenix I have ever been to. I guess it's called "kitchen" for a reason. Their food menu is a bit bigger than you other Phoenix, but similar drink menu. There are many table choices for a nice lunch meal, or even a quick sit-down drink. The decor is is a cross between ancient China and modern world to me; pretty nice. Roomy. Nice ambience. Service - waitresses are very attentive and responsive. One thing I wish they did was offer water in the beginning of the meal.... haha but I guess i was my fault for not ordering a drink... Kind people they are. Food - I ordered a slicked prime rib with chili sauce. It was very salty where I think I felt the seasoning on the meat... although there was moderate sized amount of white rice on the side, it was not enough to compensate for the salt. Lots of oil on this. I wouldn't recommend this dish. My friend ordered a house noodle that came with duck and a bunch of other random stuff. It was really good and flavorful; you can taste the flavor of the wok they used haha. I would come back here for the environment :) pretty nice and new restaurant for Temple City. read more

Large menu, good food, opens late, cheap prices, this is one of 626 finest casual dining chains. You can come here and just grab a drink, get a full blown meal, or just some dessert. You can call ahead to order to go, or dine in. The only drawback to dining in is sometimes service can be slow, but overall I always have a good experience here. read more

PARKING: Private lot north of restaurant - access through alley FOOD: -deep fried man tou: I know this is super basic, but when you dip this fried masterpiece in condensed milk, it's like a symphony. Try it, but make sure you eat them while they're hot. Fried food never tastes good when it's cold. -porridge: PK's porridge tastes like they add flour to it, but I like it for its smooth consistency. Major bonus points for coming out piping hot. DRINK: -mixed fruit tapioca: It's a signature drink for a reason. Half and half, mini tapioca pearls, and diced up fruit combine into a sugar-filled cup. This time in Temple City and it's called "Phoenix Kitchen" - based on the introduction on their menus, their vision is to make it like the traditional Hong Kong outdoor low-cost restaurants (大排檔) - they did so by having glass rooftop to let natural light come in to the restaurant, and there are some semi-outdoor seating as well. Phoenix Kitchen is not the first Phoenix serving main dishes, but I would say the food menu is the most extensive one. [檳椰海鮮烏冬 Curry Udon]: A- Very good job on the curry - not spicy and with a pretty strong Coconut flavor to it. There was a lot of seafood ingredients. My mom said the curry sauce was a bit too much but I think as a udon soup it was just about right. [手打雲吞饅頭 minced pork in sweet bun]: A- This is one of Phoenix Kitchen's signature dishes. While I don't think it's special enough to be called a signature dish, I have to admit that the minced pork (which they called Wonton in Chinese translation for some reasons) was nicely made and the bun was slightly fried to a just about the right texture; with a dipping into the sweet and sour sauce - the whole package was pretty tasty. [沙茶蝦粒撈面 Low Mein with minced shrimp]: A- Pretty good. The lo-mein was not very dry most likely because of the sacha (or satay) sauce. There was a lot of shrimp, and the pork was nicely stir-fried. Again the whole package was pretty impressive. Didn't have a chance to try their dessert but I'm sure it would be as good as they are famous for. (LOVE their grass jelly saga drink!) Been coming to this Phoenix location more frequently and I enjoy it here more than other locations. For one, it's bigger than the other locations. It's more spacious and doesn't make it feel like you have to fight people for some air. The food quality is the same. I don't remember the food dishes I enjoy here because we order something different every time, but I remember it being pretty decent. I usually come here for their dessert. Some of my favorites are: - Black sticky rice young coconut - Black sesame puree - Macau style tiramisu - Durian Roll and Mochi The parking here is not too bad. There's plenty of street parking. If I remember correctly, they have a few parking spaces in the back. I've been to the back once so I don't remember clearly. We usually park a block over and walk there. read more

Excellent location because it's new and clean. They also have a parking lot in the back that many people seem to forget about because it's always empty in the back when I go. Phoenix is known for their coconut milk drinks, other HK desserts and comfort food like fried rice, noodles, etc. that always hit the spot especially late at night. Their hours make it convenient for late night munchies. They don't skimp on portions, at least for their fried rice, noodles dishes. Many Phoenix Dessert places offer food but I think this location has the most extensive menu. It's also an open kitchen so you can see the chefs cook. read more

Surprised that I haven't written a review for this restaurant, but my boyfriend and I eat here ALL THE TIME! They have a variety of food to choose from such as rice dishes, noodles, soup, desserts, and drinks. My favorite dish is the Sliced Prime Rib with egg. All of the other dishes we've tried there were great, too. We haven't been disappointed in anything we've tried there! They also have Egg Tarts which usually sell out everyday! Their prices are fairly cheap, and they give a lot! They don't seem to have a lot of employees, but they're always on top of their game! They close pretty late, too, so this is a good place to go for some late night cravings! read more

The good is ok and comes fast. The jello is made earlier and kept in their refrigerator. Their drinks are too. They have a date on it so you can tell when it was made. The center of their tables are stuck with oil. They don't clean that part very well. It's hard to talk to some of the servers because they don't speak English very well. read more

It's the largest phoenix that I know. It's still new, maybe training issue. Got there party of 3 but no greeting at about 6 pm on a Monday night. Got my own menu, decided on a table, then had to flag somebody down to order. Once that's done then service picked up. Food is on par with other location. Ordered fried fish, wonton, house chicken, couple of desserts. The menu is a bit different. Didn't have my usual from the Garfield or Baldwin locations. But the majority is the same. The kitchen is a bit more exposed. Like I said, maybe training issues, some burn smell got into the dining area due to the cook was "hot cleaning" the wok. Conversely, no favorable smell came out?! But maybe I just had a cold and not sharp on food favors. Not bad, I will go back given it is the only game in that part of town especially for the late hours. read more

Drooling. Phoenix never fails to satisfy my cravings for Cantonese cuisine. Growing up, I often went to the Arcadia location, but ever since this location opened up, it's been my go-to. The Temple City location is one of the most spacious Phoenix Kitchen's that I have been too, along with it being very bright with natural lighting and with a modern look to it. They still have the dessert in the fridge and the hot soups/desserts on display. Some dishes that I absolutely love are the Korean braised beef rice dish, walnut shrimp, cold bean curd, the Laksa, mushroom soup, chicken wings, string beans, and their fried rice/noodles. I love all of dishes that I've tried at Phoenix, but those are the ones that my family and I usually order to all share. The appetizers such as the cold bean curd and the chicken wings are all flavorful and can make up for one meal honestly. The chicken wings are fried to perfection and seasoned with some fresh peppers, giving it a nice kick to it. The cold bean curd is a healthy soy alternative and is really filling. I love the walnut shrimp dish here because it's not overly coated with mayo and still has a nice crisp to it when you it it. The walnuts are always sweet, so it balances out the dish. The sticky rice that comes along with it is also my favorite. The braised beef rice dish isn't really authentic, however it's really tender and flavorful. I also like the vegetables that come along with it. It has a nice crunch to it and I don't like soft vegetables. I tried Laksa for the first time here and it's amazing! It has a slight coconut and curry taste to it, along with it being a little bit spicy. The string beans are to die for! Their always cooked to a nice crunch and with garlic. Anything with garlic is always going to be delicious. Their fried rice and noodle dishes are all so good and I really don't know how else to describe it. All of the dishes here are reasonably priced and you get way more than you pay for. They give such huge portions and I love it! I really enjoy the man tou with condensed milk because it's a fried dough, dipped in creamy sweetness. I used to love getting the coconut milk with melon drink, up until I tried the Thai tea with grass jelly here. So delicious! All of their desserts are so yummy and not overly sweet. My all time favorite is the hot black rice dessert, topped with coconut milk. Their service in general is pretty good and the restaurant is always clean. Nothing special here, what you see is what you get. They have the standard chinese dishes any other chinese takeout around the area. The portions are reasonable and also reasonably priced. The one thing I do like about this place tho, its fairly clean. I used to go to the other Phoenix on Las Tunas (in San Gabriel), the tables and floors were always sticky. The service here was quite fast and the location is not crowded, perhaps because this location is newer. I ordered the Lo Mein Minced Shrimp and Pork and it was quite flavorful. It's a dry noodle dish. It was pretty greasy, but I suppose that is to be expected at Chinese restaurants in the States. I couldn't finish the portion by myself so I would recommend sharing. I also ordered the barley with lime beverage. Some of the beverages are pre-made so they take it out from the fridge when you order them. This one is a pre-made drink. As the name in Chinese suggested, it was very "healthy-tasting". I didn't taste much of the lime and it was pretty difficult to get the barley with just the fat straw. I ended up taking it home and eating the barley with a spoon. The barley was not quite cooked through so I would have preferred them to be softer. My friend ordered a Chicken with Shiitake Mushrooms and Sausage to go because she loves the dish a lot and wants to take it back to the Bay Area with her. However, the waiter didn't hear the "to-go" part and brought the dish when the order came up. Other than that mishap, the dinning experience was quite pleasant. The place also has some prepackaged pastry, desserts, and braised food items that you can take home with you. So definitely worth trying for a budget meal or just some deli food to take home after work. read more

Made with a square-shaped maker as opposed to the usual hexagon shape. They were average - I had crispier ones. Parking is a bit hard, there are a few spaces right in front on the street or a back parking lot through a residential street. Service is usually pretty quick. I tend to grab take out more than dine in but the servers are very polite and helpful. I usually come to get dessert. I love love love the black sticky rice desserts, always satisfying! I'm really disappointed in the service my parents and I got today. Context: We ordered a durian mochi platter, but turned out to be a mixed mochi platter when we ate it. (The plates were next to each other on the display, but were misplaced/swapped. The person behind the counter didn't realize this until after we brought it up). We brought it up with the gentleman who helped us & instead of an apology or replacement for the correct item, he stated that we told him we wanted the mixed mochi platter. (Well, of course we chose it because it was incorrectly displayed under the durian mochi tag). My parents still ended up purchasing the correct mochi platter & an additional durian roll platter afterward. Ultimately, what I'm upset about is the lack of acknowledgement of the mistake and not offering to make things right. The place is Cantonese style food. It has lots of flavor. One of my favorite dish is their Chicken with Kale (I know it sounds gross; but it's delicious)! They have another dish called Korean Beef which is also very flavorful. Lastly I would also recommend their chicken in lettuce wrap! My all time favorite is their black sesame hot dessert. When I was pregnant I order it at least 1x a week if not more. It's the best place that serves it! Their price is reasonable and not too $. But Portions are a little small. So glad Phoenix opened a closer location to where I am! I usually only come here for dessert, since they have a variety to choose from. My friend introduced me to the durian roll, and it's so delicious on a hot or cold day. Each order comes with three durian flavored rolls. There's a piece of durian on the inside, and it is covered with coconut shavings. This pairs well with any of their drinks, especially their mango tapioca. Their hot desserts are pretty delicious during a cold night, like the black sesame purée! Also, a tasty, refreshing dessert I enjoyed was the grass jelly with honey! Make sure to pour the honey because the jelly has no flavor. Service is pretty quick if you know what you want. It's also very convenient how they have switched their payment system over to Square for a more accessible way of paying. read more

On a Friday night, it wasn't all that crowded, which made it easy to get a table. One thing though, our table was very sticky which means that they don't clean things very well. Food comes quickly. I ordered the pork and preserved egg congee. It was quite delicious with the saltier pieces of pork blending well with the blander porridge. While it's not quite as good as the version at Delicious Food Corner, it is still something that I would order again.
