Hmm where should I start? This place has been here for 30 years, clearly are making money right? Lets start with the fact maybe one person employeed there actually knows whats going on. Okay moving on I purchased reel for over $300, a month ago. ONE MONTH to the day receipt & BOX in hand. I don't feel comfortable but leave it with the guy because he doesn't know his ass from his elbow & 'only the owner' can make a decision. I call later in the week they have no idea what I'm talking about & the "owner is in the hospital." okay I get it, I was a small business owner- now I go in to the shop to get some real information because now my $300 is just sitting there, oh but the owner is there! & oh "they thought we would issue a refund with our bank" no I specially wanted a solution from the place I purchase. Two guys spent $2000 right in front of me. Disgusting business moves, no refunds? No exchanges? This is why people shop from major retailers. We will never be coming back here. & will continue to tell people to avoid your shop for as long as we live here. $300 is a lot for anyone. Makes me fucking sick to my stomach. Great little tackle shop in Phoenix with everything you could possibly need for your fishing adventures. Whether you're fishing freshwater, saltwater or fly, this place has it all. They have all your classic lure and plastics brands, but also a ton of locally-made gear that you can't find anywhere else. Personally, I love Senkos, and they have every color and size under the sun... but there's something for everyone. The service is also fantastic. I bought a rod and reel here a few months back, and frankly, had no idea what I was looking for besides a basic spinner. The owner gave me a few suggestions for my price range and went through the pros and cons of each. No pressure - just good solid information to help me make an educated decision. When I chose one, they were kind enough to spool it up (for free) when I was checking out. When I later had some backlash issues with the new reel, I brought it back in and they re-spooled the reel with a new, lighter line for no charge that has since worked wonders. A lot of tackle shops have pretentious employees that judge just about every purchase you make or bat an eye when you tell them about the murky backyard hole you're going fishing in... not these guys, though! In fact, every employee I've asked for help has been keen on getting me set up perfectly with everything I've needed, and have even shared some great fishing stories too. Phoenix Fishing Supply has all the tackle, lures, and my favorite - a live bait fridge in the back with a variety of worms. I'd much rather buy my worms here than Walmart. Just be sure to check the container before taking them up front, sometimes theres a soupy worm mess hidden amongst the lot, worms arent always fresh. Staff have always been friendly and helpful whenever I stop in. I went in there prepared to spend a ton of money and once I let the salesman know what I already had he just picked out a couple of things that would help me at saguaro and Bartlett lake. He only wanted to complement what was already in my tackleboxes. This used to be a great spot for any sort of fishing help- friendly, knowledgeable about the area fishing holes and a big help with buying equipment or fixing what's broke. We brought two reels to be re-spooled (restrung). Picked them up a few hours later and asked if them were in working order. Told yes. Come to find out, neither worked they way they should. Both were spinning reels and we brought them to Apache Lake for some fishing and neither worked like they had in the past. Brought them bought to the shop and they said, nope, they're broken and we didn't do it. We're used them for several years prior and they worked great. Thought we were doing the right thing by replacing the line. Had to toss them. Not working with the store, don't trust. Sad, because they were a great spot for talking fishing. read more

Wow! What a fantastic shop. Has a neighborhood feel and all the salt water equipment that one could ask for. We are just getting in to tuna fishing so needed a crap ton of stuff. So we got rods, reels, reels spooled, lures, hooks, swivels...price was great and selection was awesome considering we are far from any water. Owners were extremely busy spoiling line so it gave us plenty of time to explore. Supporting the local business is very important and this shop is great. If they do not have what you need, they will get it for you. Also, they build custom rods which are beautiful and amazing detailed work. Have your name or whatever inscribed on the rod and the rods make awesome gifts! I will go back once I can refinance the house and buy the rest of the gear we need! We're camping and doing some fly fishing at Oak Creek this weekend. I got the brilliant idea to catch some mudbugs while we're at it. I also needed a fish license, since mine long expired. Wanting to support local independent business, I headed to Phoenix Fishing Supply. They certainly do appear to have everything. Most of it is in the aisles, and piled into the corners of the store. Thankfully, the man behind the counter escorted me in the right direction, and also pointed out the pros and cons of each trap. The store gets props for not having annoying salesmen, who are all over you as soon as you set foot in the door. If your shopping style is like mine, I like to be left alone until I ask for help) then this place is for you. If you like to be doted on, you won't like it here. Their main focus seems to be bass, cat and saltwater fishing. I saw very little fly fishing gear. Also, they do not sell fishing licenses. I had to go to Big 5 to score one. read more

Love this place. I hit it about once a month to avoid giving all my hard earned $$ to big shops like Bass Pro, etc. There's plenty of high end gear, and a pretty good selection of terminal and soft baits. The best thing about this shop is the old school vibe. There are usually a few older guys sitting up front, (not employees) reading newspapers, talking trash, etc. Kind of a barber shop deal. Also, if you want some help, and an almost guaranteed laugh, ask Jeep for help. The dude totally knows his fishing, and he's got a wry sense of humor, which he never fails to break out on me. Also, when he's ringing up my items, he nonchalantly knocks 10-15% off of everything I'm buying, which doesn't suck at all. Great local business, great people, totally legit. The Fantastic Mr. It's Complicated enjoys fishing. I know almost nothing about fishing. For the holidays, I decided to get him a gift certificate from Phoenix Fishing Supply. I like to spend money locally instead of with big chains, and Phoenix Fishing happens to be within walking distance of my house. In addition to the gift certificate, I wanted to buy a single lure. You know, so I'd have something more than a piece of paper to hand him. As John K. mentioned in his review - there was the group of older guys (not employees) just hanging out near the front. The employees were all busy, so I was randomly looking at all the lures over several aisles. One of the older non employees offered his help - he spends so much time in this store he knows where everything is. He seemed to like my sense of humor. I told him I was looking for a single lure (nothing too expensive) for the boyfriend. Didn't want to spend a lot, as I have no clue if it will ever be used - the real plan is the gift certificate - the lure is just a cute little add on. He asked what my boyfriend fishes for. "BEER!" (sounded a lot better than, "hell if I know!") We settled on bass, and he guided me to that section. I felt like I was invading the boys club a bit - but not in an unwelcome sort of way. No rushing, no pressure - and if I do ever get into fishing, I have every confidence that everyone here (the staff AND the old boys club) would be happy to advise me and talk me through everything I need to know. I haven't fished in a while. So long, in fact, that I had forgotten most everything. I drive by this place every day on my way to work and stopped by 20 minutes before they were closing today. The staff is incredible. Everyone there listened to my story, what I was looking for and even took the time to set my new rod and real up. Been over 15 years since I've been in the store, stopped by to have some line put on a couple of reels and to my surprise Goudy is still running the shop and it's still the place to go for freshwater or saltwater supplies! The guys there went out of their way to ensure my reels were done right. They unspooled the old mono and spectra and respooled it all to make sure it was tight and uniform.
