If one plays ice or roller hockey, the dearth of quality equipment at the large sporting goods…read morestores is obvious here in the Southwest. Yes, one can buy from online retailers from Canada or the NE, but what do to if one needs to try on equipment, test a stick, or examine gear that can be very expensive mistake if it doesn't fit well or enhance the player's skill level? Specialty stores do exist, but they can be expensive and the attitude of the owner/s and manager/s can be "take it or leave it - we're the only place in town". At BTM, this attitude does not exist. The owner played hockey at all levels, including the NHL, so he knows what works and what doesn't. He runs a goaltending school, so he keeps up on techniques and gear. His customer service is exceptional and he demands the same commitment from his employees. Unlike some specialty stores, he does not always recommend the most expensive equipment. He recommends gear based on player expertise, age of the player, and budget. They care about their customers and it shows. If you visit the Scottsdale store, stop by and say hello to Sasha, the German Shepherd Dog.

Unfortunately, they only had a handful of functional trainers and no stand-alone leg machines. Perhaps my search for equipment is specific to me as it's possible not everyone is lolkong for commercial-like leg machines for home gyms. Otherwise, 70% of the store was cardio machines, treadmills with huge screens, stairclimbers, massage chairs, and bikes. I wasn't able to get help as the gentleman working was on the phone with a customer, but perhaps they might have options to order leg machines and have them ship directly to the house.

This store at Oracle and Magee is somewhat on the smaller size, but it doesn't feel cramped for what they do and have. My visit on this occasion was to check out their disc golf inventory. This review's rating is purely for that experience. A friend told me they had used ones, but I didn't know they had new ones as well. They carry both major brands, Discraft and Innova as well as a smattering of a few other minor brands. Large selection of putters/approach discs, mid range, and drivers to choose from. They also have a nice selection of disc bags as well. The Speedway location does not carry Discraft. Or so they said on the phone. Depending on their condition, you can trade in discs for store credit. Today, I traded in two discs that I hardly used and two that I barely used. I got $3 a piece for the former and $2 for the latter and got $10 store credit. I walked out with a new disc for $5. I could have gotten the same model but in different plastic and walked out with a new disc plus still have $1 store credit, but I figured I'd give this plastic and weight class a try. As far as other equipment in general, I think that the prices are not all that competitive. For example, in perusing I saw a pair of Bowflex SelectTech dumbells "on sale" for $299. I think they were new. A few minutes later at SportsAuthority, I saw the same pair, only new on sale for $179. There two other Play It Again Sports in town, one on Speedway and one on Broadway, but all are independently owned.

You'll probably end up buying more than what you plan on, so be ready. This location boasts 2 floors, with everything from kayaks to baseball bats and shoes for every sport to clothing for the kiddos. They carry major brand names such as Yeti, Hydroflask, Nike, Puma, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to also find ratchet tie downs for pick up trucks in the kayak/SUP section. They had a great sale going on before the 4th. I was able to snag my life vest for just $20! I won't be using it too much, but you gotta be safe no matter what! I was browsing around and trying on different brands when an employee asked if I needed any help. I politely declined. I did drop a star due to the fact that when I checked out, there was only one register open. There were about 3 of us behind the person who was paying. Eventually, another register opened up so I was out and about in a few minutes. I would have also liked to see scanners throughout the store to check prices. There is an abundance of parking in the lot outside. Employees are friendly and they offer a military discount when you show your valid I.D. I would recommend coming in for all of your sporting good needs!
