I came here on a Saturday afternoon for the public ice skating they have 1-3pm. I parked in the main lot and the entrance is on the side of the building. It was quick and easy to get our skate rentals. There were a good amount of people skating but it wasn't an issue. It's not super crowded like other rinks which is nice since it's been 10 years since I laced my skates up lol! The big negatives I really have is parking can be confusing since the spots right in front say "no parking" which doesn't make sense since there are parking spots lol.. & that the side of the ice that is near Zamboni entrance is uneven which if your not expecting it can throw you off. But it's mainly a rink for hockey so it's understandable. (AZ Ice Peorias ice is more suitable for figure skating in my opinion) read more

I've only had great interactions with employees, and skating with rental skates is a relatively low price for the big rink and unlimited skating time during free skate times! Which usually isn't to big of a issue but the ice hadn't been zambonied in 3-4 hours making it horrible on your skates. The service at the front desk was good but it could be better if the ice had been properly cared for. The overall experience was horrible. Even if they couldn't Zam they could get snow shovels and clean it off. The value of the ice was ridiculous and i will not be coming back to this awful rink. I wouldn't recommend coming here but if you do then make sure to be aware of this poor facility. read more

Traveled from WAY out of town for the public skate for myself, my spouse, and my minor child. I'm the only one who has skated before, so three passes, and two skate rentals. Just 10 minutes in, my spouse falls and bounces her head off of the ice. She is seeing stars. We leave and go to the ER, where she is diagnosed with a mild concussion, and ER staff "wowing" over the size of the bump on her head. I asked at Arcadia if we could get a refund since we spent 10 minutes on the ice and had to leave. They refunded my wife's skate pass of $15. Not her rental skates, my child's skate rental, the "skate helper" rental, her pass, or my pass. So when you see the "Skate at Your Own Risk" sign, that includes paying for it, too. A little empathy or compassion would've gone a long way. Not to mention the public restrooms that look as if they haven't been cleaned since the rink opened in 1966 and dilapidated facilities that look the same as when I skated there 10 years ago. There are many other nicer rinks in the Greater Phoenix area to choose from, so choose wisely. read more

Pretty fun time! Went on a Sunday night and it was halfway full. Make sure to bring a sweatshirt and long, thick socks. You can rent equipment there (although the condition of the skates is pretty low, so if you have your own, absolutely bring them) and register to ice skate in-person and online. There is a range of skaters in age and talent, so everyone is welcome. One thing we all noticed was that the ice was extremely rough, which made it hard for beginners like me to get going, so they need to clean it regularly, which I'm surprised they didn't do on such a busy day. read more

Before pop culture coined the term tween; but only by about a year or two, I had the privilege of playing ice hockey as a young teen. I had a few 'wordy' on ice debates over this or that during a peewee season. "I think you'll like they way I use 'Pow!', 'Bam!', and 'Zap!' in a sentence." I 'politely' explained to the defense-man, alas, I was cordially invited to take a 'break' from the sport I so loved. Time marches on, or so the song goes, and fifteen years later I still hadn't picked it back up. Shazam! I got this wonder-brained idea about a year ago, I'm going to play ice hockey again! Fifteen years later, the call to get back on the ice was overwhelming, I felt like Uncle Sam himself was calling me to serve my country, do my duty, stand up and take action! I spent a few months debating weather I would do it or not and decided to take the plunge. Being the frugal person I am, I chose to pay the entire season instead of game by game. You'll spend closer to $20 per league game, instead of $25 by paying it upfront. I picked up a few new pieces of necessary gear I didn't already own, a helmet, gloves, athletic protector (those boys are sensitive you know) ;-), and away I went. Suiting up that first time, brought back that feeling of sporting camaraderie you can't find anywhere, at least outside of a locker room. Taped the hockey stick, laced up the skates, pulled on the jersey, buttoned up the helmet, and away I went. The puck dropped for my first rotation on the ice, I skated my heart out, and holy cr*p! What the heck was I thinking! OMG, I think I'm about to die, right here, on the ice. I looked up at the clock, and it was only about 67 seconds into the game, go figure. My next thought was "I knew I shouldn't have paid the 'entire' season. Now I have to come back :-/ " Fast forward nine months, I'm still going back week after week. I can finally make it back to the car after a game without limping the entire way there, and no longer feel like I'm punishing myself for the future possibility of keeping up in Adult League Ice Hockey. I've been told by a number of skaters that while Arcadia doesn't have the best facility, they've got one of the better patches of ice in the valley. Lucky for me, I live only a few miles from here, short commute! Check them out for a free skate, drop in for an open hockey, or join me for C-League. There's always a beginner class happening on the weekend for anyone interested, they'll even loan you out some gear if you'd like to 'try before you buy' so to speak. I was originally going to host my daughters birthday party at the Ice Den, but this place is so much better. Other than the rink, it's small in size, but the party room is very long and fit 25+ people. The host/instructor was AWESOME!!! He got everyone their rental skates, helped the little ones put them on and get to the ice, he helped them learn - almost the whole time! Was really patient with the very little kids AND he served lunch, filled drinks and helped out consistent! 3.5 stars! A few weeks ago, I introduced my 4yr old son to ice skating at this rink and he LOVED it! Despite the heavy teenage presence, no one acted like an ass, there was no bumping into beginning skaters or showing off. Everyone was really well-behaved and considerate. It was a very welcoming atmosphere for those who were just learning to skate and I appreciated the lack of attitude I generally find at similar facilities. It's not in the greatest area I guess, and the teen-age employees had some munchie symptoms & blood-shot eyes... but more important to me was that everyone was friendly and having a good time. It reminded me a lot of the rink I used to frequent when I was 14, where my friends and I drooled over the hockey players. If you're looking for fancy amenities, this probably isn't your place but hey... they had a bar in the back! That's fancy enough for me :) read more

This place is definitely showing its age. It has withstood time in that it is still in operation, but it is in dire need of some serious renovation. The "warm room", which is the snack bar, is often a disaster area. There is some sort of "camp" for kids, which apparently meets up in the warm room. Then destroys it. Then leaves it like that. I paid $2.50 for a "deluxe mocha", which was instant coffee, and powdered cocoa. How that constitutes "deluxe" I'll probably never know. There is no comfortable seating to be found anywhere. The skates were considerably aged. Ostensibly in an attempt to clear the condensation on the viewing glass (but failing miserably) there was a large fan blowing the cold air down toward the seating, just to ensure you weren't able to be warm at all. (Not a major problem the day I went, as it was approaching supernova temps outside) There was actually a diaper on the floor in the "warm room", that remained there for the entire duration I was at the rink, which was almost 3 hours. I would sooner pay the cost to go to the Ice Den. It is far cleaner, much more maintained, has comfortable seating, much more, and much better amenities. read more

I'm going to say this ice rink is sooo cold. It's a bit small since there is only 1 rink from when you walk in. The public skate and coffee club are usually ok times but I find it to be the most expensive rink in Arizona for me $8 since AZ ice Peoria lets me in for $5 with military discounts and Ice Dens give me free public skate as well as rentals. Additionally, I find that their rentals are the most worn out and have no ankle support whatsoever. They need to update their rentals for sure. The positive side about this rink is the relaxed environment. There's usually fewer people and you don't have to follow specific guidelines for what you can do during public skating. read more

We bought the tickets to ice skate and it took us 10 mins to get our skates and then 15 mins to go around the rink. We didn't even skate around the rink we took baby steps the whole way, just to get to the exit, and it took us about 5 mins to take our shoes off. we went to the lady at the cash register and told her we wanted a refund and she said no. She had a bit of an attitude. it sucks because we hated our experience, we didn't even spend a lot of time there. we just spent 30 mins and left. the least we could get is our money back. read more

Had horrible experience at the facility with the management. The manager named CAITLYN is Extremely rude. She must have something going in her life which was why she seemed so frustrated and irritated with her customers. We contacted AZ ICE Arcadia, Phoenix last week to celebrate our daughter's birthday. They told us, the skating was available from 12pm-3pm and after that from 3pm-4pm we were told that we could use their party room for cake cutting. After 3 pm they suddenly told us the party room wouldn't be available any more. After several requests they let us use the party room. They completely denied the phone conversation with us which included the duration of the party from 12-4pm.Within 10 mins we were forcefully and extremely disrespectfully left the party room by the manager and the employee who was the only one helping the manager . The manager Caitlyn who was so so disrespectful towards us literally took off the decorations , balloons, table mats in front of us. When my husband asked them why she was being so rude she laterally screamed at my husband. We never had that kind of customer service till date in any of the facilities in Phoenix area. They were not able to manage the place , the employee at the counter was always so annoyed with the kids if someone asks for new size of shoes. It was very uncomfortable for all of us including our guests that day. I would certainly discourage anyone who would want celebrate their dear one's special day there. Last night I learned that I should have applied myself to ice skating at a young age. I am a naturally graceful and beautiful figure skater. I skated backwards, I did twirls and even executed a highly skilled jump, and I have not even been on a pair of skates for sixteen years. The pro shop did not have gloves, but quickly after getting on the ice I realized that I wouldn't need them because I was going to spend my time upright versus laying on the ice like I had anticipating before realizing how highly skilled of a skater I am. $8.25 (I think) paid my admission for two hours of skating and got me some sweet rental skates. I really wanted some graceful white ones, but I got brown. Fortunately I had leg warmers to complete my ensemble and tie everything together. Brown has never looked so good with sparkly gray tights before. There were plenty of places to pop a squat to put on your skates or take a break and they have lockers to stash your shoes and hand bags. It also appears they have a snack bar and vending machines, but I did not partake in any of those offerings. I did, however, partake in some libations at the Ice House, located at the east end of the rink. I love that my friends and acquaintances sat inside the bar sipping their bourbon watching us skaters from the comfort of their warm seats. I'm certain they were too intimidated by my amazing skating skills to join on the ice. If you thought THAT was impressive, just you wait... I am going to take lessons and next time we have an ice skating #pfn I will blow all of you away with my triple quadruple axle spin jumps. read more

From a skaters standpoint The best den in the valley hands down. I can't train anymore due to serious energy but this den has public sessions all the time that aren't too busy during the school week. All of their sessions are inexpensive, and it is a nice cozy den. Coming from the Ice Den, it is a really laid back feel and I like it a lot. Especially now that I'm not involved with USFSA and don't have ice time to practice anymore. From public standpoint The skates are manageable and the price is lower than most places in the valley. (Unless others have gone down in recent years) I suggest going here over other rinks. read more

One lap around the rink and my feet were cracking! How is it that everyone else around me can strap on a pair of skates and hit the ice without any sign of fear and with confident poise and precision? Unfortunately, I would not be singing the phrase, look mom no hands, during this ice skating field trip as my attempt was a total fail. It's a good thing I had Julia T. at my side to help guide me hand in hand during my 10 min lap. Her calming voice in my left ear reminding not to chip at the ice, glide from side to side, hold your balance, you're doing good, come on you got it, yea right! This was much easier said than done and I was happy to get off the ice after one, full, long, torturous lap around the arena. So other than my lackluster debut, I'm giving a positive nod to AIA for a few very good reasons. Bringing me in out from the 113 degree heat, a very affordable activity, and for the quick getaway to the Ice House to partake in a before/after refreshment where next time, I'll be skating vicariously through my oh so cool friends. Arcadia Ice Arena... is on the very far boundary of Arcadia. This is no posh neighborhood ice arena. This is your inner city ice arena, if there ever was one. Situated behind a Radio Shack and next to a Walmart, the AIA is in a busy parking lot. When we were looking for the place, we almost ran into not one, but three scruffy looking guys. The 9 year old who was with us said " you'd better make sure to lock the car door when we park." And we did - twice. When we walked inside just after the session was supposed to start at 6:30, they were just starting to prep the ice for the session. The Zamboni did not even come out until maybe 6:45. So, they were a little behind. We checked in and gave them our Groupon, which we had purchased for four admissions and four skate rentals a couple months ago. The girl working the register was friendly enough. DH and I have our own hockey skates, so we only needed two pair (for DD and her friend). We went to the counter to get the skates and the young girl who was supposed to retrieve them (who also works at the snack bar) seemed very confused. She said she organized the skates in the morning, but now they were all over the place. They were all in their spaces, but she didn't even know where to begin looking. She couldn't find the right size for the girls, so we made do with what she did find. She seemed a little dazed and confused, if you know what I mean. When we finally did get onto the ice, we noticed it was not smooth at all. The ice was bumpy and grooved... and just not the smooth ice I have skated on before. Not that I am a pro or anything... I could barely stand up compared to others there. Still, it is worth noting. It also bummed me out that when I pulled out my camera to take a picture of DD's brief two minutes on the ice, I must have dropped the 9 y/o $20 bill. No one turned it in, so I felt horrible. And, yes, I will be going to the atm in the morning to make the kid whole again. But the kid and I decided that if someone would just scoop up someone else's money without turning it in... they probably needed it more than us. Smart kid. Did we have fun? Sure thing! Would we come here again? No way! We will try Polar Ice in Chandler next. At least then we'd be closer to our neck of the woods. **The best part of the experience? I responded, and scheduled an interview with Jim - the owner. Let me begin by saying by Jim is one of the most inspirational and community-minded people I've ever met - and I've met quite a few. He began working at the arena as a young teen, and continued to do so while he pursued his college degree in Accounting. He went on to play pro hockey, winning a championship, and returned to the arena after a spending a short time as an accountant - because Arcadia Ice Arena means everything to him. Plain and simple - this place is still open because Jim loves hockey and he knows creative accounting. He pours his heart and soul into this arena, and employs teens that could use a little mentoring. Arcadia is lucky to have him. Yeah - the facilities are a little rough around the edges but that's hockey. Jim showed me locker room repairs he'd made just a few days prior, explaining to me that its an impossible task to keep kids from smashing hockey sticks into everything; as a former child skater, I can relate wholeheartedly. Anyway, here's the best part. At the rear of the arena, tucked behind the buildings, is my favorite bar in all of Phoenix. Its a little divey, but its something special. There's a few games, a free-standing fireplace, along with cold beer and an always-friendly bartender. Behind her is a wall of glass, allowing you to watch the action on the rink from your bar stool. I've never seen anything like it, and I guarantee you haven't either. Its a must-visit. One more thing: Jim is open to any event or gathering that you could possibly dream up. The front desk person was on FaceTime with someone our whole interaction and there was never even one greeting. They were very unprofessional. The skate rental kiosk was just as bad he had his headphones in and didn't even notice when we came up and asked him for a different size. First, this place is a dump. I was shocked to see how bad it was. I went in because I've been trying unsuccessfully for months to get signed up for a men's hockey league. Every time I call they say "you need to email Justin". I've been emailing Justin multiple times over a period of time and have gotten no reply. They also told me to email a second person about a Friday morning skate. Again, no reply. So I finally went into the rink in person to see if I could get signed up. This place is a train wreck in a refrigerator. Its very cold (which is to be expected) but also extremely dilapidated. The ceiling is falling in, its old and worn, and worst of all, there is NO ONE to control the children. The children (which are more like teenagers) are running a muck, creating cracks in the ice and throwing it at other people. I don't like the ice throwing, and I don't like cold ceilings falling in. I took my five year old skating for the first time. While trying to teach her to skate I noticed an advertisement for the now, Little Howlers, program. I inquired and was surprised that they offer free skating lessons to kids for 4 Saturdays during the month. This includes skates, helmet, all pads, and a jersey. You can take your kid to practice in between classes and they won't get hurt while wearing the equipment. A big thanks to the Coyotes who sponsor the class and make this happen. The staff is really amazing, friendly, and helpful. My daughter is very shy so I have been getting her involved in a lot of activities to try and break her shy barrier. I expected her to cry but what I wasn't expecting was the personalized attention she got from one of the ice skating coaches, Michelle Clarke. Thanks to Michelle my daughter absolutely loves ice skating. Many thanks to the other coaches who are teaching as well. She can't stop talking about going back. read more

From June to September, this is a great place to escape the heat. You ideally need to bring a sweater and perhaps some gloves to keep you comfortable. I like having a local ice rink nearby and It was approximately $15 for my son and I to skate, which included the ice fee and rentals- BUT the skates were so badly damaged! Within minutes, my feet were a little bit sore from the first pair, but I thought that that was normal because I don't normally skate. I've been going there for a number of years and it's a great place to be away from the 100 degree heat for awhile. I definitely agree with Craig about the aesthetics, it's an old rink, not flashy; it's homey to me -- reminds me a little bit of the McFetridge Sports Center in Chicago, but without the inside bar. The only things I care about are (not necessarily in that order, but must be present): * my skates are sharpened just right at the right price (yay!) * a place to lock up my stuff, glide/fall numerous times on the ice, afterwards get a beer at the bar (tucked way in the back so the kids don't see it) *consistently friendly staff *happy kids and parents as a bonus (I don't mind lookin' out for the kids as they zip by me at 10mph) read more

I am new to ice skating and since I am taking lessons I thought getting as much ice time as I can could only be a good thing. I also figured finding a rink to practice in during public sessions would be easy to do. WRONG! I cannot say how pleased I was to find Arcadia Ice Arena and the wonderful hours they keep. It was nice to be able to hit the ice yesterday after work and skate for just over two hours for only $8.00 with the skate rentals! That is so inexpenisive especially compared to other rinks that charge double that easily. The ice was not crowded and the staff was very nice. I was very impressed by this rink and will happily return in the future. This place is a definate do! Bring some quarters though, the lockers do cost 75cents, so you can store your personal belongings. Great ice and a great time! read more

Brought my boys to sticktime at AZ Ice Arcadia and ended up being able to access only 30% of the ice surface due to the rest being monopolized by coaches doing training for clients. I don't have a problem with the coaches as they are just making a living, but AZ Ice shouldn't allow 70% of the ice to be unavailable to others who paid to play. You couldn't even get to full speed before you ran out of room and there was too many others skating around to even attempt. Hopefully they look at doing coaches only sessions or limit them to 50% of the ice. To make matters worse they wouldn't give a refund when asked. Very disappointing. read more

Sometimes, an establishment gets an extra star boost for being unique. As the only ice rink in Phoenix, Arcadia Ice Arena is just that kind of place. And, needless to say, in an area that is consistently warm and a goddamn inferno in several months of the year, why shouldn't I reward a place that allows me to enter frigid temperatures and relax by taking a few spins around the ice? Granted, the place is in a moderately sketchy shopping center and the arena itself is rundown, but the staff is generally nice, the ice is well maintained and the prices are affordable (even before the recent slurry of Groupons). And, yes, I did just use a ice-related word. The best part about Arcadia Ice Arena? The fantastic bar, Ice House, featuring a ton of different local and craft beers, microwave popcorn, live music on weekend nights, darts and a great view of the rink.
