A great spot to get toddler sports gear! It was our son's first T-ball season and we needed all-the-things. My husband originally took him to Dick's, but they were out of a lot of items that we needed in his size. Turns out, Amazon was also out of cleats in his size (please we wanted him to try them on) and a few other things in his size. SO, Big 5 it was, and they had everything we needed, at the lowest prices we found, AND we had their $5 off coupon that had come in the mail... yes, please! I called before we went to make sure they had some cleat options in his size, and they even set a few styles aside for us. We'll absolutely be back for future sports gear (and camping!) needs. read more

My husband and I went in to look at a stereo that was advertised. Found out it doesn't have bluetooth so I passed on it. I went to look at their tennis shoes and was helped by a nice employee. While we were talking we heard a loud noise and saw an employee holding his leg. The employee that was helping me went to see if he was ok. I watched the guy that hurt himself "spit" on the floor I let the manager know and then walked out. Spitting in a store you work at while customers are in there is disgusting. We've gone to other sports shops for new shoes or workout clothes, but this particular Big 5 takes the gold. I don't know what it is, but it always seems like there's an awesome shoe sale going on whenever we stop by on some high-quality brands. I just picked up some great new hiking shoes, and I've left with multiple pairs of Asics in the past. The female workout clothing is fashionable (the same styles you would see at the entrance to the Village) yet much cheaper than you'll find in other places around town. read more

This store NEVER has what I'm looking for (hiking pants, baseball cap, sports jersey, any type of college or professional team gear (I think they just have ASU stuff)etc.), everything looks picked over as if I have just missed the motherload of all sales on sporting schtuff. I have tried to give them business on 4 separate occasions and always leave empty handed. Another turnoff is that the people lurking around the inside and outside of the store kinda creep me out. It's almost like a Cabela's (they sell firearms, hunting knives, and whatnot) but lame. Sorry, but I won't be back. read more

Guess what folks if you don't have an identification card you shouldn't shop at Big 5. I understand that if i had used my credit card i need it, but in this case i paid cash, i had the item intact and my receipt. The staff was ok they told me it was policy. I'm not upset just disappointed poor policy corporate. You lost a 25 year customer.because a lot of poeple lose, misplace, forget,etc.. Or just simply don't have an I.D. it sucks for me because i used to like shopping there. Store 00177 will never see me again. The customer service was completely terrible. I needed help selecting the correct training gloves for my 8 yr old son and was not assisted at all. I admit I had on sweats but if you used that as a guide to pick and choose who deserves customer service then you shouldn't be in business. I felt so uncomfortable and confused by the prices displayed. If you're black then this particular location isn't for us. read more

If you guys have any questions about camping ask for nathan, hes a manager there who knows everything about the outdoors. I was in the other day and I just wanted to give a quick review. I'm always impressed with all they can fit in these stores. For its size, they have about all you really need for any sport. The buyers seem do a great job of having a good selection of brands and different levels of quality. If you want the elite stuff, you probably won't find it here but you probably won't find it at the larger sporting goods stores either. The people are always friendly and helpful and they actually have decent sales some of the time. Try shopping at your local businesses before you go online. I just realized this review reads a little lame, but it's all true. If you read my other reviews, you'll see I'm really not this nice all the time! Cheers! read more

I should always remember to come here more often! The prices are fantastic and they usually have whatever sporting goods I'm looking for. I came in to get a snowboarding helmet and they had a cute affordable one, but they only had one option. Good thing I liked what it looked like. Well let me say I've been going to this store for as long as they have been opened, last week I went in with my kids to buy some snow gear as I was receiving my chance from the cashier she gave me 2 one dollar bills and some change and slammed her cash register closed really quick I noticed one of the 1 dollar bills was ripped in half not a little but literally in half so I asked her what is this you didn't even tape it back together why are you just going to hand a customer a bill like this? She told me that if I wanted change I could buy a cheap piece of gum on the and pointed to the counter, I said what the hell are you talking about can u just give me a different bill please? Then the other lady "dirty blond" I guess anyway she tells me that I can leave the store and not come back or they will call the police lol. So to make a long story short this place needs to get rid of all the woman who work here and replace with a few good ones that don't offer bad service as the the ones there now are completely bit@hes! read more

I went in (06/13/15) to buy some boxing gloves and a jump rope for my son. Everything was going so I decided to look at the Sunglasses while he searched. I was taking my time looking through the collection selecting from $55 glasses to $125 glasses. There was an attendant helping me and all was going well until I was almost ready to make my selection between 3 glasses and a manager named Chris took the only mirror in the store away from the counter for no reason at all. I was the only one in the department along with the other attendant and no one else needed the mirror. He walked over to the sales counter with the other two attendants and I was very insulted. I asked the attendant helping me why he took our mirror? He just shook his head and said he didn't know why. He called the manager back over to bring the mirror and he did. I told him we were using the mirror and that was very poor customer service. Chris responded "We are Big 5, what is customer service?". Needless to say a bad representative of a company can spoil your entire shopping experience. I bought the glasses and gloves but I returned them a week later because it just bothered me to much. I don't want to think being Hispanic was a factor because the area is primarily a Hispanic neighborhood and racism would be a really bad choice for Big 5. read more

I love Big 5. I check their ads every Sunday Morning online. When they have something on sale you can find really good prices. I went in to buy a shotgun awhile back and the sales person talked me out of it based on my needs and skill level. I ended up picking up another one on black friday for a really good price. This one is more spacious then the one on 19th ave, and has a nice parking lot. I bought some cool survival stuff from here for cheap, some hiking boots and when my wife wanted some hiking boots and she was about to go to an expensive store I told her to go to big 5 and she got some for $20. Big 5 at 36th St and Thomas is on the site of the old "Gym and Swim." I love that part about this location. Mostly fair prices, their sale prices are great !! However, I have never been in the store where there is enough floor staff helping customers find what they are looking for; they're usually up at the checkout area just hanging out with each other (but Dick's is similar). Just tried the Rugged Exposure Journey Velcro shoes and they are terrific, much better than the 577WW new Balance that I have been wearing for years. The toe is wide and the straps are long enough and the support around the ankles is great. The price can't be beat, will recommend this shoe instead of new Balance from now on and to buy at Big 5 Sporting Goods store. Thank you! read more
