Last week I needed some help with my second backpacking trip to Havasupai and met Alec in the store. I was so surprised that he went above and beyond for me and my questions and recommended several good options not only for the hike but for the car camping as well. Since the experience was so great, I texted my friends from out of the state and asked them to use REI at Paradise Valley for their purchases because of a great value and quality. My wife really likes the place but I am not a fan of subjective "100% satisfaction guarantee" return policy's.. Their Corporate offices should change the "100%" to "limited satisfaction maybe"?

Two days later, on April 10, I received an email informing me that my order was cancelled without an explanation. When I called to inquire, I was told. "Oh, sometimes our inventory is off." I subsequently missed an opportunity to buy the same product on sale from another retailer, making it a double loss. Very disappointing to say the least. They need to keep their inventory accurate or exit the online market. Follow-up to my original one star review of this business. I have upgraded my review to 5 stars. After reading my review, the business owner reached out to me almost immediately with an apology about how my cancellation was handled and made a firm offer to work something out. As a good will gesture, he offered me a newer version of the same gloves at the original price I had paid for the sale item, a $36 difference. The gloves shipped the very next day. This generous gesture speaks volumes about their desire to maintain excellent customer service and to not let customers be disgruntled over a transaction. I will gladly do business with them again. I love that they carry some of our favorite brands like Vuori, Patagonia, North Face, Hoka, New Balance and Birkenstock. They also have a limited selection of energy fuel (ie: gu, gummies, etc...) + sunscreen, lip balm and small sporting accessories. The prices are not cheap, however... unless you luck out and find your size and style on a sale rack. On a recent visit with my daughter, we purchased 3 pairs of shorts. One on sale and the others pretty expensive. Hopefully they will last a long time!
