Took the family there over the weekend and I had a fun time skating. Plus was that they actually lowered a Christmas tree onto the ice rink which was really nice and cute for holiday photos. The reason for the three stars was that the condition of the rental skates is absolutely disgusting. Several people in our party had to exchange skates because the insides were torn up so bad. I hope they invest In upgrading their rental skates. Until they upgrade their rental skates we will most likely visit other ice rinks. read more

I am new to ice skating and since I am taking lessons I thought getting as much ice time as I can could only be a good thing. I also figured finding a rink to practice in during public sessions would be easy to do. WRONG! I cannot say how pleased I was to find Arcadia Ice Arena and the wonderful hours they keep. It was nice to be able to hit the ice yesterday after work and skate for just over two hours for only $8.00 with the skate rentals! That is so inexpenisive especially compared to other rinks that charge double that easily. The ice was not crowded and the staff was very nice. I was very impressed by this rink and will happily return in the future. This place is a definate do! Bring some quarters though, the lockers do cost 75cents, so you can store your personal belongings. Great ice and a great time! read more

Sometimes, an establishment gets an extra star boost for being unique. As the only ice rink in Phoenix, Arcadia Ice Arena is just that kind of place. And, needless to say, in an area that is consistently warm and a goddamn inferno in several months of the year, why shouldn't I reward a place that allows me to enter frigid temperatures and relax by taking a few spins around the ice? Granted, the place is in a moderately sketchy shopping center and the arena itself is rundown, but the staff is generally nice, the ice is well maintained and the prices are affordable (even before the recent slurry of Groupons). And, yes, I did just use a ice-related word. The best part about Arcadia Ice Arena? The fantastic bar, Ice House, featuring a ton of different local and craft beers, microwave popcorn, live music on weekend nights, darts and a great view of the rink. Is a bar in an ice skating rink a good idea? I'm not too sure it is, but I had no idea there was a bar when I took my kids here. I noticed there were a bunch of adults sitting behind glass, but I thought they were just being lazy parents. Crap! I think I may have done better skating had I been a bit tipsy. Oh well, next time! I had a groupon that was about to expire so we went on a Saturday during open skate. There were 2 birthday parties going on at the same time so it was pretty packed. I noticed that to pay for the skate assist walkers, you had to go inside the shop, pay, and then go out to the skate rental to get the walkers. We had to wait 20 minutes to rent them because when we went to pay, there wasn't any available and the guy working the counter wouldn't take our $ until some were turned in. The problem was, everytime one was turned in an adult would hurry to the rental counter saying they had paid, and they were just handing them out without double checking. I finally had to convince the kid at the counter to just let me pay for it and I would stand at the rental counter and wait. If it wasn't for my morals as well as setting a good example for my kids, I would have done the same thing as everyone else. Paying $5ea for 3 kids to have walkers, when everyone else was getting them for free kind of sucked! My kids loved this place. They had a lot of fun, and it was a cool break. Other reviews said to bring gloves, sweaters, etc... I didn't have the experience of being extra cold. In fact, it was pretty warm, and no gloves are needed as long as you don't fall down. I agree, with other reviews that the ice isn't as smooth as it should be, the building is old and the facilities are shabby. The outskirts of the rink are dirty and cluttered. There is nothing nice or fancy about this place at all, but I would go back again because my kids had a good time and it was reasonably priced for skate time and rental. Great rink no matter what level of skater you are. Open skates are not crowded. I learned how to play hockey here as an adult and now my daughter is learning here. They follow USA Hockey's ADM program giving my daughter a solid base to thrive on. They always have the Kids First program giving kids 4 weeks of hockey(skating) lessons for free. Great way to try it out without having to spend a lot of money. read more

Very pooly run. We had a game on Sunday the 18th and the humidity was so bad you could barely see the game. You could not see the players from one side of the rink to the other. The staff just sat around and did not seem to care, most likely due to being kids. The roof is leaking for at least a week now, if not longer. Both teams that play out of this rink pay A LOT of money to play here and the conditions are horrible. You can see the floor coming up through the ice! Never. Never. Never. Never. Never go here I tired to book an event through Moriah Hernandez. I spoke with Moriah 5 weeks ago about reserving a 90 minute ice window for a work event. She said no problem. Said she would send me a contract. 2 weeks went bye. No contract. So I went to the ice rink IN PERSON offered to pay for reservation or deposit in advance. But because 'Moriah' had dropped the ball she said she forgot to send it. And would send it ASAP. 3 days later. I got the contract. I sent he contract back. No response. I call one week before the event to check on things because, no one has charged my card or given me the option too. Moriah informs me because she never received the contract, that she cannot keep the ice reservation because I didn't book it one week in advance... Huh????? I am trying to give this company a 1000$ in business. And they don't want it. What do I do???? Ownership. Help me. Why am I being screwed like this... Well. The ice rink is cool. The bar/tavern thing in the back is really amazing. Me and my employees had a great time. Staff at this place. I will never understand. Everyone except the bartender, acted like they didnt even want us there. No direction. No guidance. Just. Pay us 600$ for 90 minutes. And pay us for 140$ in food, that we won't even tell you where it's at. Look. If you're part of a hockey league or just want to free skate. You'll probably dig this place. But if you want to book an event through them...holy crap do not. They are some tough people to book with, Pay, communicate with etc.... read more

Once a month, I come to watch my friend's hockey team play here after it has closed to the general public. At night, the parking lot is extra sketchy. Inside, it smells like a men's locker room. Ice skating is fun but the conditions here are horrendous! Not only was the place near impossible to find (tucked behind a Sprint store in a strip mall, with no lights around their sign), but the ice was the most chopped up I have ever seen. Looked and felt like it hadn't been smoothed over(zamboni) since the night before. Rental skates are always very low quality but these were especially poor and appeared to be leftover from the 1980's or something. Overall, a fun night was hampered by the shoddy conditions and I will not be back here. Plenty of other ice rinks around, this place sucked. read more

This place would be decent for public skating if you brought your own skates - the rental skates are absolutely awful and very painful. we only ended up skating for about 10 minutes because we couldn't handle how painful and terrible these skates were. The ice was very choppy as well, but would've been tolerable with better skates. The staff was nice so that was good and the prices were good. If you don't have your own skates I'd definitely recommend going some place else read more

They didn't have my size in hockey skates, which actually worked out ok b/c the size smaller fit fine. Blades were not sharp, but that's no surprise. Price was entirely affordable. I was a little intrigued that the open skate time was only two hours, fairly early, on a Friday night - obviously this place favors the hockey players, not that I have anything against that at all. Anyway it translated out to a sizeable group of partially drunk Yelpers and Twitterers, a few junior high kids, and families w/ kids. I didn't run anyone over this time, so that was a bonus. Fairly cheap, too (my credit card says $8). I'd do it again, just not all the time. The location looks a little spooky, but it's really not too bad. read more

Awful. Just awful. We spent the majority of our visit trying to find a pair of skates that fit, which never happened. After coming to terms with the fact that these decrepit old skates were never going to fit properly we hit the "ice". I say it that way because this was more like lumpy bumpy broken glass. The zamboni didn't make an appearance until free skate was over and it was time for us to leave. The blades on the skates were so dull that when paired with the ice rink that was mostly snow cone by now it was near impossible to skate. So my feet are wrecked and I skated for a probable collective fifteen minutes. Run down dirty old facility that obviously isn't very well up kept. I like coming to Arcadia Ice Den for two reasons. The first one is that I love ice skating and second my husband plays hockey here. Patently this ice rank is the best one in town. It may not be in the best around of town. But the ice rank is really nice. So if you want to go ice skating somewhere and are in the arcadia area you should come here to ice skate. read more

I should start off by saying that we have taken the kids ice skating a few times at the Alltel ice den in N. Scottsdale. A friend said we should try this place because it is a lot less crowded, which sounded nice because the open skate at the ice den can be chaotic and too crowded. I should also say that I really wanted to like this place. When we got there, it was not very clear where we pay for open skate and rent the skates. We finally figured out that you have to go into the shop, so we went in and there was only one worker who was helping someone pick out skates, we had to wait a long time before she could ring us up to skate. Then she didn't tell us where to go to get our skates, I had to ask her. She pointed where to go, then she said she would be right there. Is this a one-man operation?? So, again, we had to wait for her to come around. The ice skates were in horrible condition, in my opinion, they seemed 30 years old!! We also rented some trainers for the kids. (I couldn't believe we had to pay $5 each for them, they were made out of pvc pipe!!) The ice was incredibly choppy and was hard to skate on and the place was just kind of yucky. The only good thing I can say about it is that there weren't a lot of people, but I can see why! I really don't think it's any cheaper than the ice den, in fact, their trainers definitely cost more and are way less sturdy. We'd been to Arcadia ice a couple of times before deciding to have our 6 year old's birthday party there. Although far less flashy than the ice den in northern scottsdale, Arcadia has the essentials down. Their equipment is fairly old and worn out - but the issues I found with the skates and facilities were solely aesthetic issues. The skates work well and the ice surface is well maintained. The staff is helpful and the place has a genuine neighborhood feel. The public skates we've attended at Arcadia don't have the frenetic feel of those we've attended at the ice den, as they limit the number of participants to what appears to me to be a reasonable number. The party we had was reasonably priced (at least a hundred dollars cheaper than the offering at the ice den), and the staff was very helpful and dedicated. From our party helper who handled skate fitting and pizza serving, to the instructor who gathered our kids and have a lesson, to the Zammboni driver who conversed with our 6 yr old the entire ride; everyone involved made the day great. As long as you can stomach a slightly non-polished experience, save your money and avoid the crowds at Arcadia ice. read more

Love the size of the rink, people very friendly. Rental skates are pretty horrific. I was told they have some newer skates, and it appeared so, from an informal look on the ice. Must get here earlier next time, because ours were those thrashed ones you see in tne other reviews. I have been coming here for close to 25 years and will be back. Disappointed surprised my boys and brought them here to skate. We tried on the skates and my boys were not having it. They wanted to leave. We didn't even get on the ice. Went to the desk asked if any chance we could get a refund and they said we could we just needed to talk to the manager Camille who I tried for 6 days to get a hold of and no returned calls. Finally got a hold of her and instead of offering a refund like we were told we were going to get we get offered more passes. Why would we want more passes? I am just more angry that we were told one thing and they didn't follow through. They need to get on the same page. read more

It's not Ice Den in Scottsdale but this place is a hidden gem. Not crowded so mine can practice and learn freely. Rolly is a great help on the ice. He took his time to show mine and help them overcome fear. The rentals are not the newest but the price is perfect. For two hours, we paid $4.5 plus $2.5 rental. Two hours of fun and building up confidence with on site assist. If you are looking for pristine environment, Ice Den Scottsdale is the place. To us, Arcadia Ice Arena provides a better value. read more

This is the best way to get out of the summer heat. I am not all that good of a skater; but who are we kidding neither are you :-) The rink is full regulation and they offer open public skate everyday. Prices are reasonable. The owner is a wonderful guy; who keeps the ice in awesome shape! I recommend checking the schedule for open skate times, and where a sweater or hoodie. It can be a little chilly inside! read more

This is a nice escape from the Phoenix heat. It's pretty cheap to skate here and never had any issues with their ice or skates here.

Ice is great. I have twins, and the instructors are great. They have Lil Howlers which is a free program for toddlers. Kids equipment is great. If you're an adult, you should have your own pair of skates -- that's how every rink is. read more

I absolutely love this place. I moved to Arizona a year ago and was looking to find a place to play hockey when I found Arcadia. The employees were super friendly and the ice conditions were great. I now play at least three times a week there and help coach on the weekends. I love the people and the humble feel Arcadia welcomes. It is not the prettiest rink but the manager just had the walls repainted. The area is kind of sketchy at night but I have never felt unsafe. I have skated at other rinks now like the Polar Ice Rinks, the Ice Den, and even Jobbing.com and I can't get enough of the ice and family feel at Arcadia. I give it 5 stars. read more

Love the rink ! Lots of public times ! The kids love it and it is nice and cool in there during the summer. Saturday's they offer learn to skate classes. My daughter loves her teacher (who happens to be a teen age girl) ! For the price of the classes and the free publics that go along with it, I am in pig heaven ! Forget the haters: it's 110 outside and in 15 minutes I can pretend to be in an Ohio winter, even wear long sleeves! Sure it's an old place, but it looks no better or worse than the places I skated up north, so I'm just happy with whatever I get. Skates were good enough to get me through 2 hours on the ice, and everyone seemed happy, which was nice. My son and I had a blast and it only cost us $16. Can't go see a movie for that price, and there are so few ways for kids to exercise here in the summer, so hurray Arcadia Ice Arena. My son and I can't wait to go back. read more

Old school COMMUNITY rink. Coolest little bar in Phoenix (every beer ever, darts, tvs to watch games, the friendliest owner, who also slow cooks great BBQ right in front of the bar!!). Im not really sure I get the shady neighborhood thing, on the "ghetto side" of Thomas you cant find a house for less than 170k, on the north side there is houses for well over a million. Sorry there is not 14 Applebees, 5 Red lobsters, and 8 olive gardens surrounded by weird cookie cutter dumps on top of each other, this is not gilbert, chandler, avondale, mesa or whatever Middle of nowhere BFE dump you are from, this is in the CITY, within in a stones throw of its most expensive real estate and best restaurants. I assure you that going to a Wal Mart in some "nice" neighborhood in chandler is just as "dangerous", in fact out there its probably more likely some paranoid left wing nut will have his gun accidentally go off and shoot you. Either that or his perc addicted wife may run over you in her Kia Sorrento. Talk about dangerous!! On top of that you would still have to navigate through the teen moms in their pajamas at midnight. Big deal the employees may or may not smoke dope, so would i if I was working at a hockey rink, they are all really nice kids who go out of there way to be very polite and say hi to everyone. Stoned or not they are probably much more genuine than your favorite longhorn steakhouse hostess. Oh yeah the rink , well by far the best ice in the city, I havent played at jobing and dont think im getting called up anytime soon so I cannot compare to their ice. The hockey is really good in Phoenix and there is always pretty good players at drop ins, ice den is no different. Personally I would rather have some powdered hot chocolate than have to deal with some lame coffee shop in my rink. Do not get me wrong the new suburbia rinks are nice, but they are nothing like where I grew up playing hockey back home, and they have ZERO character. I live 5 minutes closer to ice den but prefer to come here 90% of the time. Its clean, including the bathrooms and showers. read more
