I…read morewon't get into the actual Great Skate skating experience, as that I'll leave up to the grandchildren to review if they feel like they want to. I'm giving Great Skate the second star because Great Skate at least refunded 2 of the 3 grandchildren's fees since 2 of the 3 refused to skate once getting past the Great Skate entrance and seeing what it was like inside. I was there just to bring the kids. I did not skate; I was just 1) a Great Skate spectator, 2) the source of payment to Great Skate and 3) to be responsibile for the kids while they were visiting Great Skate. Nonetheless, I had to sign a Great Skate waiver and I was not allowed to sign the Great Skate waiver without providing an email address. I was more than willing to sign the Great Skate waiver, provide a driver's license, provide my passport, give fingerprints, whatever to just to get inside of Great Skate. But, because the Great Skate waiver is online I could not progress thru the Great Skate waiver without me first forking over my email address. Otherwise, I would be denied the ability to be responsible for the kids. Rather than wait outside the doors of Great Skate while the kids went in by themselves, I gave up my email address . . . just to sit on a bench and watch. Yep, now I'm getting spammed with a relentless barrage of Great Skate email solicitations. They are not about a good CX, just generating more revenue, bolstering the Great Skate spam list and managing data via a rigid Great Skate platform.

I came here for adult skate night with a girlfriend and absolutely enjoyed myself thoroughly! Adult night is really fun, with most people knowing how to skate (nothing wrong with people who are beginners), which made it a lot easier to gauge how others would behave on the wooden rink floor. Music was old school hip hop with a real good DJ and had me bopping and dancing along while we skated! I also loved the dimmed lights and strobe lights, which gave it a club like vibe instead of like in a classroom. I got in two hours of skating, and called it a night. Next time, hopefully, I'll stay for longer as adult skate is 3 hours! Admission was $14 and with tax, a little over $15. Rentals cost more but I dont know how much as I own my own skates. Great way to get your body moving, dance to some good beats, hang out with my gitlfriend and an all around good way to spend an evening! You know I'm gonna be back here again, just like when I was a kid. Gonna also take some lessons to improve my backwards skating and hopefully gain more skills for some fancy footwork on the floor!

I've played in many other leagues where the director or one of their people will get back to me quickly with options to join a team. Clearly, some teams rolling 7 or 8 skaters every week and holding down the bottom of the standings need serious help e.g. more players. I wonder if the team reps know that people are trying to join teams but can't because CAHL is not responding to people.

I wasn't in the best of spirits, but once I got on the skating rink, my mood improved quickly! I love the feeling of skating and they were playing some old school pop, which I enjoyed. On Tuesday nights, it's 2 for $22 to skate, which includes rentals. They have specials all week long so check out their calendar. I'm definitely coming back for Thu adult skate night when I get a free day! I did check out their snack bar as I forgot my water bottle and was thirsty so I got a small soda, which was $3.75 (price is high), but it's free refills. I give this place 4 stars because they really could use a face-lift here, I mean its 2025 and I felt like I was back in the 80s or 90s here. Also, their wrist guards that they require you wear were pretty gross, that could use some improvement. This is a great way to get some exercise in and I had a great time here! I'll be back!

Love coming to Skateland Mesa…read more My wife and I have now been here for our niece's last two birthdays and one other time just to skate. Birthday parties are handled very well here. Our niece is getting more and more comfortable skating all of the time and has nearly graduated from using a helper. No shame in using it though as she knows she needs some assistance. Nowadays she will skate with it but then push it ahead of herself and skate to it. It is great to see kids to adults of all levels having fun out there on the rink. Slower skaters are encouraged to stay inside the oval in the middle of the floor so the more advanced can go around on the outer skating floor. You are reminded of the rules, but nothing is heavy-handed in any way. Good music and fun little games by the staff throughout the night. So glad they have my size - 15s in a skate. They also have rollerblades, but I am not a fan. Have to have four on the floor and spread out to stay upright. If you are in the area and looking for some fun that you may have not had in 30 or 40 years - go skating at Skateland Mesa. Plenty of theme nights for all and even some adults only skating nights. Highly recommend it for fun and a workout.

Nice new facility. Well located for the east Valley. While they are still buildong out amenities,…read more it is good ice. The ice surface itself is crisp and hard. The bkards are notably repurposed which definitely goes along with giving them character. At times though the bounces off the boards were not semetrical with the angle they hit the boards at, which is surprising and frustrating if you are playing defense. Likewise, the edging needs to be worked on to remove the bubbles and flatten the surface next to the boards as the ice matures. The final.thing you will notice while skating is the low ceiling which doesn't so much cause any problems other than your perspective in thinking the rink to be smaller than it actually is. The locker rooms are nicely spacious, although lacking good permanent benchs. Showers are missing as yet, but no doubt in the works. Generally speaking, this is a facility just opened but not fully built out. That said, it looks good, skates well and seems like a good start to good little ice rink. I'll be back!

Arizona Derby Dames is one of the best Roller Derby teams in the nation, and one of only ~7 with a…read morebanked track. If you're curious about Roller Derby, 2 teams skate on a track. They each have 1 "Jammer," wearing a star on her helmet, that scores points by passing members of the other team. However, those members of the other team want to kill her, and so Roller Derby ensues. 1970-90s Derby was scripted but the modern kind doesn't work that way, with actual rules and incredible athleticism. It's played only on roller skates - the 90s roller blade phase ended up with too many injuries because of the added speed. Arizona Derby Dames version is on a banked track, so it tends to be faster. There's a slower rule set that's more common, played on a flat surface called WFTDA. That version costs less to put together and there are over 1000 such teams in the US, so Phoenix is really lucky to have one of the few banked teams.
