When I arrived to pick up my reservation, none of the gear had been prepared. I spent over an hour in the store while employees searched for equipment, including the cookset I had reserved. I was eventually given a Jetboil stove and separate cookset, but no one explained any compatibility limitations and the only instruction was provided after I specifically asked. On the trip, while boiling water for dinner, the stove caught fire and we extinguished it immediately. When I returned the gear and explained what happened, I was told I would be charged for the damaged equipment. The most disappointing part of the experience was the interaction with the owner. Rather than discussing what happened professionally, he told me he couldn't believe someone could be "so stupid" and that the employees were all laughing at me in back for not knowing that I could only use one of the two pots they rented me with the stove and said I should have Googled it before renting it (not that the brand or model was listed on their website). Mistakes happen. Had this been limited to a reservation mix-up or equipment issue, I probably would not be writing this review. What turned me away permanently was the way the situation was handled afterward. As a final note, the store called me three days after I returned the equipment because it had not been checked back into their inventory system and they wanted to confirm I had actually returned it, so their inventory management issues didn't seem like a one off.

I'm not one to usually write a review about sporting stores, I usually just review places I eat at…read more I would, however, like to write a very nice experience I had today around 12:30 - 1 PM ish when I had to find a new mug/tumbler to bring to my Krav Maga classes. There was quite a selection, and I was looking for a specific design so I looked for an employee who went through a lengthy process on the hunt for the tumbler I picked out. I unfortunately do not remember his name, but he had blonde hair I believe and was fairly tall compared to me lol. I have OCD, so I analyze every detail when I buy something. Or just everything in general. After he had recommended the Yeti Rambler and a few others, I ultimately decided on that one. This was when the probably most odd adventure at Dick's began of finding the tumbler color I liked that had the least amount of markings, dings, imperfections, etc. There were quite a few of that specific tumbler color, & it took a decent amount of time to finally decide on one. After pulling out every color of that size of mug I decided on, I narrowed it down to a few, but was still struggling due to some very minor markings I saw. I had asked for his help more than a few times to see if he could spot any markings on them and he crouched onto the floor with me, looking at them and pointing out what appeared to be the best option while I rotated the tumbler to look at it with the lighting at certain angles. Not only did this employee take the time and patience to help me, but went as far as getting me a wet and dry paper towel to see if a tiny dot of a smudge would wipe off -spoiler: it did indeed come off- but I really sincerely appreciate how understanding he was about the situation and how far he went to help me. I'd imagine a majority of people on this planet would go mad trying to help someone pick a tumbler for over an hour, but there was no judgment on his part and was very kind. I also left with an awesome tumbler thanks to him, and slightly embarrassed/guilty for the probably agonizing experience he had to go through lol, but still was very kind throughout all of it. They do have Grab Bag bins around the store with gear that is 40-50% off the MSRP (which means you know it's high already), so that can help. As a swim coach for a high school team, they did a great job with our order, and communication about our orders was clear. It is located in the "far" east valley, but easily accessible.
