Soooo good! Stopped here because it was perfect pho weather, and I'm glad I did! The broth was so rich and delicious, and the price wasn't bad for the portion size/area of DC. It's a basic Vietnamese joint with not an expansive menu but can satisfy most needs, at least for some rice dish, rice noodle dish, or pho. And this day they ran out of a lot of things by midday lunch, some of which didn't make sense. They ran out of spring rolls. They ran out of pork. They ran out of seafood for the seafood pho (and gave me shrimp pho instead without asking me if I'd be okay with this substitute). So what did I end up getting, aside from the seafood pho? Fried spring rolls (which was greasy but decent-enough and made better with the accompanying sauce), chicken rice dish with pork pie (which was abnormally spicy and therefore made inedible), Vietnamese coffee (which was pricey), and the shrimp pho. In all honesty, the overall experience left a poor impression that I can't recommend anyone to come here for anything other than maybe the pho, as the pho broth was by far my favorite thing here. Man I did not expect to see a Pho 79 out here in DC. Only know of Pho 79 in CA! It was close to my hotel so I had to check it out. Stepped into a the restaurant with viet pop & viet edm and instantly knew this place was legit haha. Cute spot that's super close to the Capitol. It has bar seating and table seating. Looks small from the outside but there is a bit of room inside for groups of 4-6! Servers were nice and hospitable. I had their Pho Tai Chin (well-done beef brisket pho) and it hit the spot, especially during this cold weather! Meat was good and soft, broth was light and flavorful--it came out so hot! I eventually started sweating from the heat so the cold no longer was a problem. I had their Vietnamese coffee which wasn't too bad. I will admit I've had better lol. Small family oriented restaurant right next to the Capitol Police Headquarters. Very friendly! Food comes out fast and hot. We ordered the shrimp and veggie summer rolls. While the peanut sauce was a little thin, it was quite flavorful. For entrees we got the pork vermicelli noodles and the lemongrass chicken with rice. The pork vermicelli was very flavorful abundant with noodles and the fried spring roll was a welcome contrast. The lemongrass chicken was delicious. Spot on flavor of lemongrass and the broken rice was tasty. Definitely a place to return too! read more

Wow. I had to update my review after today's deliver. I ordered extra meatballs for $5. Photo above. Putting the pieces together is less than one (1) 1.5" meatball. Mind blowing. I will Not be returning. The first time I came here, I was NOT a fan of the Pho. The broth way way too sweet. Second time, it was ok. After more than a year, I decided to give it another shot due to convenient location. The food was wonderful. I now stop here regularly. I tried this restaurant today since I was in the neighborhood and I am a huge fan of pho noodles and Vietnamese food. My experience was disappointing. I ordered spring rolls which arrived without much flavor and a peanut sauce that just doesn't pass the test. No comparison to what you can find in Eden center and other restaurants, they lacked the crunch of vegetables mixed in with meat and noodles. I ordered a bowl of Pho Tai. While the broth was tasty, there were only five small pieces of meat in the bowl. They also told me there was no basil since they had run out that morning. But reading other reviews, they appear to be out of basil on a regular basis, something that has never happened any other Vietnamese restaurant that I go to. I also heard them tell someone else they were out of lemon grass. For $12 for a bowl of soup, they really should be giving more meat and portion size. It is a family run place and my experience was friendly enough so no major complaints there. It did take them a long time to take my order and I had to ask for napkins. The decor is nothing to get excited about. Certainly not a date night destination... Overall, I will not be going back. There is so much other better Vietnamese food in the district and of course, in Eden center. read more

Solid 3.5 stars. I came here for an early lunch since it was close to union Station. We came in and was seated. I ordered the grilled pork chop with rice and my husband ordered pho. Food was served promptly. The pork chop was decent, and Mt husband said the pho was as expected. The ambiance felt more like a hole in the wall, nothing special. Recommend some good options, from which we decided to go with the most adventurous pho. And it didn't disappoint I believe it was #17 but you can always ask.
