We decided to check out this place for a quick snack after walking around Van Dusen Gardens. We ordered the house special Viet sub, salad rolls and spring rolls for take out. Everything was super tasty and we were surprised by the large size of the salad rolls and sandwich. It was super sized!!! We will definitely come back as it exceeded our expectations. The food is great but the service was terrible. Today I came in for a quick lunch with my wife and kids since this place said it was good for kids. I ordered a bowl of pho with a ginger ale and the pho wa exactly what I expected but the problem was that I was brought my drink when I was almost done with my food. Also, when we had to change our three month old daughter's diaper, there was no change table to change her. PLEASE GET A DAMN CHANGE TABLE!!! It's common sense to have this at a place where you expect to have families come in!!! read more

I really enjoyed the Pho here. I was a little skeptical when I first enter the restaurant because there was only one other couple that was there. Then again it was 10:30pm at night. The broth here was very delicious. I am very picky with my Pho and I tell it like it is. If it isn't good I am not shy to let you know. A medium looked a bit small to me. Maybe because I am used to eating very big Pho bowls. Overall this place had very good Pho. The only bad thing about the Pho was their chicken was American chicken and not your typical white meet with skin chicken. I'll probably not going to be able to come back here because I live out of the country but I do recommend anyone from out of town to try this place out if you're looking for good Pho! read more

Hey, maybe I'm not a pho connoisseur. I've never been to Vietnam. But I know what I like, and I like good soup at a good price. I had a very tasty large house special soup, with tons of meat, tripe and tendon, for $7.50. I like how they also offer a small size for $6 and an extra large for $8.50. For the three of us, including tax and a generous tip, we only spent $25. Other bonuses: an extra large menu with many items you wouldn't find in other Vietnamese restaurants, including a whole list of Cambodian soups (non-authenticity alert: all of the "Cambodian" items had Vietnamese names and there is Chinese writing all over the place, but it's still great to see some interesting and unusual things on the menu); also, the interior of the restaurant is incredibly nice for this kind of establishment, even down to the automatic trash cans in the bathrooms. One caveat is that although the sign says "24 hours", and apparently that is the plan according to our very pleasant server tonight, they are not yet open 24 hours. Hopefully they get enough business to fulfill this promise. read more

Thank goodness! A decent pho place on the Cambie corridor! I was really sad when the old pho joint closed down (it was there just before Noa). This is a good substitute. Their house special was chock full of rare slices, beef balls, tendon, and tripe. The broth was hot and tasty. I also had their spring roll, which had a crisp, crackly exterior, and a great dipping sauce. The service was prompt and pleasant. The room was clean, and the decor was nice. While there are other better pho places in the city, this is a good one when you don't want to drive to East Van. I will be back! read more

I came here after attending an event with my friend. The decor in here is a lot more modern than most pho place I've been. The food is quite authentic. The broth tastes very flavourful and you know it'ss been boiled for a while. I really enjoyed it. The noodle was a tad bit overdone for me, but still very enjoyable. We've been coming here for the past 3 years since moving to downtown. There are many places that are much closer to home but we rather do a short drive here instead. There is free parking in the rear but you'll have to walk back to the front entrance. We've tried the pho, banh mi, spring rolls, and bbq rice dishes, and they were all excellent. The soup in the pho is flavorful and it's what keeps us coming back. There spring roll is the ones we prefer as well, the one with the crispy but chewy skin. I often get the iced coffee too. They don't keep the chili oil on the tables but they have them on request. Don't miss out as it is amazing. Not too hot and has a great lemongrass flavor to it. Great to put it in your soup to add another dimension. Service is great. They really try hard. You can tell they are a family run business. Sometimes they are short staffed when busy but they are always polite and prompt. Would highly recommend them. read more

We wanted a nice warm both of pho after a good walk earlier today. The first place we went to was actually Anh va Chi, not realizing that it was more of a modernize upscale hipster Vietnamese restaurant. Needless to say, we got in our car and left. All we wanted was a good basic bowl of pho, and Pho Xe Lua delivered. It's strange since this was our first taste of pho in Vancouver. Expectation is that it's not going to be on par with San Jose or Garden Grove. Well, the pho wasn't great, but pleasantly good. It doesn't have all the fancy extras like Kobe cube or wagyu raw beef, but it does have a tasty broth that will hit your spot for a basic pho craving. My parents approved. read more

My favourite Vietnamese restaurant. The staff are just wonderful. Always so kind. They have great selection of authentic Vietnamese food. My girlfriend loves coming here as well (she's from Saigon) Their pho always hits the spot and love the vermicelli bowls. I usually get the same thing at Vietnamese places but there are many other dishes available. Generous portions at a great price point. Been coming here for 6-7 years and never had an issue once. Great ambiance for a Vietnamese restaurant lol. No hard fluorescent lighting lol etc. Oooh also the calamari is nice and meaty. I think this is the new Kim Penh Xe Lua that was on Broadway and Cambie? Sounds like it and tastes like it. It's alright, the broth is slightly on the oily side and the noodles were a bit overcooked and clumpy. I appreciate the S, L, XL sizing, but deep down, I only know I like it because it makes me feel less guilty for ordering the L. My go-to menu items is the Pho Dac Biet and Vermicelli noodles with chicken or pork with the spring rolls. Both are big/hearty portion sizes. Salad rolls are fair portion for average hunger. The peanut sauce for dipping is delicious. The restaurant atmosphere is pleasant with its non-kitsch decor. CASH ONLY. $10-$15 will buy an adult a bowl or plate of chow. No reso required. This is my go-to spot when it comes to Pho. What's so great about it? Do you like flavorful noodles? Value? Great decor? If you answered Yes to any or all of the above, this is a place you shouldn't miss. On my first visit, I immediately noticed the Pho noodles came in an XLarge size. Although I wasn't that hungry,something told me I had to order it. I honestly didn't think it was going to be that big - probably more of a marketing thing. Turns out, it was more of a small cauldron than a large bowl. A bowl this size should be saved for occasions like: 1) Finishing a marathon. 2) Climbing to the top of Mount Everest and 3) After being held captive for many months. The other interesting option was the Satay soup option. Delicious! I would highly recommend it to anyone. The meat quality in the noodles is very good - just not stellar. My other favorite is the lemon grass chicken. It's a classic among Vietnamese cuisine but unlike other Pho places in the city, the Meat/Rice ratio is excellent. Too often I finish the meat with tons of rice left - I never have that problem here. The spring rolls are also excellent. I love the way they've decorated the restaurant - Simple yet functional and modern. My only suggestion is to have some decent ambient music. Sometimes its, the radio, other times, nothing. It's a family business (or so it seems) and while the wait staff is friendly, it sometimes gets busy and things take a little longer than expected. This place is really nothing special. I decided to try it after reading a few glowing reviews but I can't understand what the rage was all about. I got a simple pho tai - the broth was mediocre and the meat was terrible- it arrived rare as it was supposed to but tasted off. Asked for chili oil and was given one that was so dried up and old there was barely any flavour to it. The sprouts were wilted & old looking. Overall, nothing great. I love the lemon grass chicken. I have been having a craving for lemon grass chicken for a few days now and I googled this place as it showed that this was the place closest to me. I had the beef pho as well 'cause one can't live off off lemongrass chicken. The broth was nice and flavorful and the noodles were cooked right. A little skimpy on the beef, however, was already eating a protein, therefore, didn't make too much of a fuss about this. Service was good and we were served in a timely manner. read more

Our local go-to Vietnamese place on broadway was demolished and two sprung up in it's place (one just down the street and one on cambie). This place had been nicely renovated (from a previous tenant) and had excellent reviews so we decided to check it out. I think many of the other reviewers have hit the nail on the head with their comments. I would say: - food quality is excellent, all three of us (even baby) loved it! - prices were a shade higher than I'm used to, but I'm always willing to pay a buck or two more for a meal I really enjoy. Pho never breaks the bank. - the menu is quite extensive, more choices than most places I've been to. - portions are not huge, but just right...usually I can't finish my pho. This is my neighbourhood pho restaurant and I come here at least few times a month. It's a standard pho place and it serves great Vietnamese food. The pho broth tastes very clean. Lemongrass pork and chicken are cooked perfectly with nice char on them. The portions are generous. I also really like their tea. They serve pandan tea that I've never had at any other restaurants. I'm not sure if it's a destination restaurant, but it's sure nice to have in my walking distance in the Cambie Village. read more

I am no longer vegetarian and this place is still my South Cambie neighbourhood favourite. The spring rolls are bangin' and satisfyin' and the grilled lemongrass chicken noodle in soup is heavenly. The rice dishes are also pretty great if you're in the mood for a simple fried rice. I'm not so adventurous to try the traditional pho or tripe, but I've heard it's also great. The best thing about this place is that they are consistent; The food is fragrant and hot when it arrives, the staff is kind, and the quality of the product is reliable. I went here tonight with a couple friends to try a different pho restaurant. It was fairly packed with several teenagers and young adults. The restaurant is fairly big so it's good for groups. The menu is a little bit more pricer in comparison with other pho restaurants in the city. I ordered the Special Pho Xe Lua Pho in size small. It tasted a little bland so I had to add sriracha sauce (which I rarely do). The meat was fine, half a meatball was fine too lol. No really, there was 1 half meatball. My two friends ordered an iced green bean cold drink dessert and a rice dish with lemon grass. Both friends found their order fine. Overall, I thought it was an alright dining experience. Would I come again? Probably not because I prefer the ones on Kingsway. Price point and quality didn't do it for me. Also, it's important to note that this restaurant only accepts cash. read more

I was a really big fan of the lemon grass chicken with a spring roll on noodles. The lemon grass chicken was much better than at many other restaurants I have been to. The portion size was also fairly generous - albeit, a large amount of noodles. Also had the appetizer chicken wings. They we nice and crispy, with a subtle flavouring. As far as service goes...well, the person bringing us our food was always on the phone. It didn't really bother me, but some people might not like it. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. I really enjoy coming here once a week with my husband and baby boy after his swimming class. We like the prompt service, although sometimes we see the server's mom yelling at him to be quicker at getting orders from the kitchen! The poor guy gets a bit stressed! The food is delicious here and we prefer it to the 24 hr Vietnamese restaurant that is a bit closer to our house. The chicken and beef quality is much better and the Pho is also rich in flavour which is so important, nothing worse than bland Pho. They are also very accommodating to us when we bring in our baby in the stroller. Prices are really good too. The only funny thing is that they play some really cheesy, tacky music in the background that sounds like karaoke, we laugh at it every time! Dropped by for pick up, and got the salad roles for my wife, and the pork and vermicelli. The salad roles where 4 star taste but 6 star price, so it averages to 5. The pork was a solid 5, amazing vietnamese pork roles with real pork. Thats the dish I got, but its my wifes new favorite (after she stole some). read more

Thin rice noodles served dry with a savoury soy-based slightly sweet sauce, peppery fish cake, Vietnamese ham and five rather large prawns (probably frozen but the good kind), garlic chips, chives, and lime and basil on the side. I like their version much better than the similarly named neighbour down on Broadway. Overall a late night win. read more

We live in the neighbourhood and have put up with the rude and unfriendly service for years simply because this place is convenient and the food is decent. However, when we went in with a stroller the other day (got there early and the restaurant was completely empty), the owner scowled at us and turned us away. I would be understanding if she told us politely, but she was outright rude and offensive, she was actually angry at us for attempting to bring in a stroller! Anyway, that was the last straw. Wow is this service bad. We asked for a table for 2 and rathee than giving us one of the multiple tables for 4 that were open they shoved us into a corner 2 seater next to a party table. We had to literally squeeze past the extra chairs the party table was using. No one involved in that squeezing was comfortable or happy whatsoever. They brought us our food one bowl at a time and when my friend indicated that a certain bowl was for him, he was ignoree and I got the bowl. We moved it to be in front of him and suddenly the server came back, took the bowl saying it was wrong, spilling a bit of soup on him and taking it to another table. Smh read more
