We haven't been here in awhile, but came back tonight to get pho again. We also got 2 items that we haven't tried before: (1) #25, egg noodle w/ crab, shrimp, and fish cake (no broth) - I ordered this dish; didn't want broth, so this was a perfect blend of chewy egg noodles tossed in with shreds of lettuce, bean sprouts and all the other ingredients. It came with a small side bowl of broth (which you can either pour into the large noodle bowl or drink separately). There wasn't too much flavor in the bowl of noodles though -- just hints of soy sauce? A good change from the typical pho bowls we usually get... (2) lemongrass chicken wings (8 pieces) - my husband ordered this, as we wanted to see if this was comparable to the wings at Pho Hut. He thought the Pho Hut ones were still better, but Pho Vy has the better pricing. The wings were bursting in flavor, as they used grilled jalapenos too. My husband got Pho #1, his usual dish. Pho was still good as we remember it and I really enjoyed the lemongrass chicken wings, tasty and well seasoned. :) read more

Amazing! It's no secret that I love pho and Pho-Vy delivered on my cravings for some deliciousness. I ordered pho with spicy broth and it was on point. The broth was robust with flavor and it was the perfect amount of spice...just enough for the infamous spicy nose drip lol. What made my experience so much better was the cook came out and sincerely asked me if the broth was spicy enough for me. He was genuinely concerned about making me a happy customer. He made our dining experience that much more special. It's not often that the chef comes out to make sure that his customer was completely satisfied with the spiciness of their order. This spot is a pure yelp find (thanks, Yelp). We were passing through Bakersfield, looking for a place to have late lunch. Don't get scared off by the sketchy area (it does look a bit ghetto). The Phó here is pretty good, so it's the food, not the pretty decor and surroundings, you should be after. Here's what we've ordered: 1. Spring roll (shrimp and pork) - small portion (2 pieces) 3.95 USD. 7 out of 10 - the peanut sauce can do with a bit of more flavor and could be less watery, otherwise really good - fresh ingredients, nicely cooked shrimps 2. Pho Vy Special- rare steak slices, brisket, flank, tendon and tripe - 8.75 small (9.75 large). 8 out of 10. The broth is flavorful, slightly on the sweet side, not fatty, with great balance of aromatics and spices. 3. Chicken noodle Phó with dark meat - 7.50 small, 8.50 large. It's great that there's a dark meat only option. The broth was rich, a bit on the sweet side as well. Very well executed. Service was quick and quite pleasant. We have asked for no cilantro, no green onions for the chicken Phó - no issues with this at all, the order was delivered correctly. Starting off strong, the food is amazing. The pho is excellent and you can tell it's fresh with no pre made or factory made ingredients. However, the inside of the restaurant isn't spotless as a hospital. It isn't necessarily filthy, but if that doesn't bother you, then you should be fine. The service was good, they aren't too excited to do special instructions for you, but in the end they listened and the food was phenomenal. Overall highly recommend. read more

Definition of traditional Vietnamese food. I have been coming here for 10 years! Everything is so delicious and flavorful. My personal favorite is the Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle) and I would drive across town just to get it. Their pho has great flavor as well with their broth being some of the best I've had. Honestly the worst customer service I've ever had. I have been coming to the establishment since it opened with my grandmother, and today after finally being able to come home from the military, I was basically kicked out of the restaurant with my children and my parents and siblings. I had witnessed cross contamination from the servers, they had touched their cleaning supplies( mops and brooms, etc) and then had proceeded to pack my left overs with out washing their hands. read more

This has to be our favorite Pho restaurant. Aside from being not too far from our house, it's the food and the owner's hospitality that keeps bringing us back. The Pho soups are delicious. You can customize your soup from not spicy to spicy too. Food is served within minutes of ordering and you can taste the freshness. The spring rolls are just as amazing. You have to try the coconut water. The owner will ask if you want. Don't let the location discourage you. It's all good. And make sure you enter the correct restaurant as there is another one right next door. Gonna have to try another dish next visit. read more

Food is always delicious and staff is very much on top of running things smoothly. 3.5 stars. I came here around 6pm and I was the only one there during my visit. They were extremely slow, especially for dinner time. One person came in to pick up to go and I was there for a little over an hour. At the time of my visit, it seemed like they were having some problems in the kitchen, my guess was plumbing, so there were quite some noises coming from the kitchen, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable....wondering how adequately my food was made in a kitchen with problems. The lady that was working, most likely owner, was nice. She knew her customers and conversed with them. Now the pho. It was decent. It wasn't the greeeeeatesst, but it wasn't bad either. I wanted some pho and I did definitely get my pho fix. And their small was definitely small. They didn't give a whole lot of meat or noodle. When it came to paying...I didn't have cash and was told I needed a $10 minimum to use a credit card. I told the lady I didn't have cash and she gave an upsetting attitude and said fine give me your card. I actually did not expect that from her since I saw how friendly she was with her customers. I was going to tip her pretty good since the place was slow and I took my time there, but then couldn't anymore after that attitude... Not sure if I want to come back next time I'm in town, after that attitude, but I may since it may be the only spot with decent pho...and I'll make sure I bring cash. My bill was $8.xx. I've only had pho a handful of times but I honestly believe that Pho-Vys is the best, in my opinion. Today was the second time I've gone in, although I've been craving it for over a month now. I grabbed two small bowls of the #9 spicy (this was a personal choice, you can also do regular and add spice to your liking) beef brisket as well as a large (4) order of the shrimp & pork spring rolls to go. I was curious to see how my to go order would turn out as I was reassured that they'd include ALL of the add ins you'd normally get. Surely enough when I got home everything was there. I know many people can relate to how exhausting the drive from Las Vegas to San Francisco can be . We decided to stop at the halfway mark, Bakersfield (which I know nothing about it) for a nice warm bowl of pho. I mean it when I say, I was shocked at how delicious the pho was . I ordered a #5 small and I ate every bit of it ! I gave the restaurant a 4 but I wanted to give it a 4.5. The reason I don't believe its a 5 out of 5 is that the pho was a bit overpriced and it took little bit longer to serve than what I'm used to, but this is me being super picky! This is the 1st pho place I've tried in Bakersfield so far and it was a notch over "meh." I typically order beef pho with rare beef and nothing else. What can I say, I know what I like and I tend to stick to it. I don't know how to explain the pho broth here, it tasted sweet to me. I tasted it with and without Sriracha and it was just not like any other broth I've ever tasted in my life so it was just not what I was expecting. Remembered Pho Vi, after seeing some pics that a Yelper posted from this restaurant recently. There was a time when Pho Vi was our favorite Vietnamese restaurant not only in Bakersfield, but in the entire world as well! Yeah, we liked their food that much!! My wife loved their pho!! She even preferred it over places in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I was a fan of their Pork Chop, and their Grilled Pork Vermicelli!! We have not returned in awhile because of sanitary reasons. We have always noticed that they are not the cleanest restaurant. That had never stopped us from returning here because the food is 5 stars worthy!!! Service has always been good, and the food comes out fast and delicious!! Fortunately, we have never had any sanitary problems with the food. Some of our friends who used to be regulars here had a major issue!! Until, Pho Vi cleans up their kitchen....I doubt that we will be returning here anytime soon in the future. My first time in Bakersfield and first time at this place. The city itself barely had anyone there when we were rolling by in the afternoon, creepy! The service was friendly and attentive, but maybe it helped that we were the only ones in during the time. Food: Spring rolls - they were nice and got us one pork and one shrimp one, instead of getting 2 full orders of each type. The pork was really tasty and it reminded me of the pork found in the egg rolls! Noodles - we got the vermicelli with 2 types of pork to share. Everything was good and tasted fresh! I enjoyed the peanuts, which I typically don't in these dishes. The pork was very different than what I typically have, which was a nice surprise! It reminded me of Vietnamese spam lol. My husband and I just moved here from the South Bay. When we passed this small complex with various Vietnamese restos & markets we were surprised and excited, but a little wary. However, I'm happy to say there is hope for decent Vietnamese food in Bako! My husband wanted pho, so Pho Vi was the logical choice in this complex. I haven't acclimatized sufficiently to be able to order steaming hot soup in 100 degree weather, so I ordered Bun (cold rice noodles with fish sauce dressing) with grilled pork & shrimp. The meat was tastier than most- meaty (not fatty) & marinated in lemongrass. However, there were no herbs (even easty-to-find mint & cilantro), just lettuce. Overall, it was still fresh and tasty. My main complaint is that it was expensive for VN food- around $7! So far, it's the only thing *more* expensive here than in the South Bay. The Da Chanh (VN lemonade) was delish. read more

My family and I are monthly visitors. My parents prefer this place over any other ones in town. We've always had great flavors in the two dishes are normally get, the pho and bun bo hue. Today, my husband decided to try the grilled pork chop with a fried egg on top of white rice. The whole point of having the egg on top of the rice is when the knife cuts into the egg, the yolk would smother over the rice but when my husband cut into the egg, the yolk was 80% cooked/solidified. He ate it happily while I would of asked for another egg. My main problem from the visit was the server. Both the lady owner and the male server are pushy in a friendly manner. Today, my mom asked the male server for a plate of fresh veggies for her bun bo hue and he mumbled something and I said "sorry, I didn't hear you". He then said "don't take it home", telling us not to take the leftover veggies home. If we leave the leftovers vegetables (like the server said) they are either 1. throw it away or ... 2. reuse it.. some might use a chop stick to grab the veggies but some uses their hands... and if they're reusing it.. The Pho and spring rolls were good. I came here because it had relatively good reviews and I wanted my cravings filled. When I came I was the only one in the restaurant but sure that the fact I got there at 8pm had something to do with it. However, there were several people coming in to get "carry out ". So, this made me feel better about what greatness was about to transpire. When I got my food it looked great with the usual suspects of Thai basil, sprouts, jalapeño and lime. The pho base was a little saltier than I'd like but I'm kinda snob about it. Otherwise food was great and staff was super nice! You will enjoy coming here! read more
