This is a good pho spot. I was craving some pho so my friends and I came here. The plaza was really empty so it was easy to find a parking space. The service was good...the guy checked in with us a few times to see if we needed anything. We ordered the rice noodles with shrimp and chicken noodle. The pho was good, but the soup was too salty. Love this place I first started eating here when I first moved to Bakersfield back in 2002 fast forward to today i come eat here occasionally when I do visit. I may no longer live in this city but when I do visit I know this joint is around. Shockingly same owners. It's interesting how surprised and excited they were to see me after going off to college. The service here is amazing! Felt so welcomed. I wish they had chili oil to make it spicy but siracha works too! I got the small bowl and that filled me up, I wasn't the biggest fan of the flank because it was sooo fatty. I just love this casual and unassuming restaurant. Lou Anne is always friendly and I'm amazed by her remembrance of faces of her patrons. She greets you as if you're a friend. I ordered the Potstickers which are crunchy and delicious with a dipping sauce. I also ordered the Seafood Pho so I would have leftovers for dinner. Their Pho broth is so flavorful! You know it's legit when you can barely read the sign outside but as soon as you walk in, the aroma makes you even hungrier. This place is legit! A casual pay before you eat type of place that is both sit down but looks like they cater to a lot of take out! We ordered a large combination pho, pork and shrimp spring rolls and a grilled pork banh mi, just to try a little bit of everything! The large combination pho comes with meatballs, rare steak, brisket, flank + and gigantic bundle of noodles! I liked that the noodles were still springy & not overcooked, but felt like the broth was just alright, it honestly feels like it's missing a bit of depth and is a little salty. I also wish that they would give extra cilantro & basil as garnish! The spring rolls were pretty good! I've never had spring rolls that had crispy stuff (not entirely sure what it is) on the inside but it was a nice texture to go along with it. I honestly thought that the banh mi was the best part of the meal. The grilled pork on the inside was SO GOOD and the bread was so soft and nice to bite into... (you know how much it hurts to bite into a baguette and have it cut up your mouth!!!) but it was a little dry so I would have loved to have had extra mayonnaise on the bread. Overall, pretty decent! First time going to Pho-Vy, I order a big plate of pho with everything on it, it was packed, PACKED! with meat not like other places, my only complaint would be the spring rolls, they tasted spoiled and the inglidients didn't tasted fresh, but the egg rolls were great. This was the first pho restaurant I visited after moving to Bakersfield, and I had a lovely dinner there with my date. We both know the owner, who is always present, taking orders and serving guests. We've been there so many times, but this is the first time I've remembered to write a review! The owner is truly amazing--she always greets us with a smile and knows exactly what we like. As soon as we sit down, she remembers our usual orders, including our favorite types of food and drinks. We enjoy chatting with her while savoring our meals, and her warm personality makes each visit special. I can't wait to return and catch up with her soon; I'm planning to stop by in the next few weeks. Overall, this is my favorite spot, and everything about this restaurant ranks at the top of my list compared to any other place I've been to. I can't wait to taste her delicious food again! We came in for lunch today because the weather was perfect for pho. Food is great, never any issues there, but when it came to the service this time around, it wasn't up to par. We ordered our drinks and food at the same time- a number 2 and 14 small with one water and a sprite. The lady brought us out two waters. We didn't mention it since it was pretty busy and it wasn't a major issue. Once we were done with our meal, I asked the server for a container to go and the check and waited about ten minutes before realizing she had forgotten about us. So I had to stop her again. Once we got the container, my husband went to pay and we asked the lady to please remove the sprite from our ticket since we never got it. She then proceeded to (what seemed to me) scold us for not asking for the soda. I didn't like this at all. In spite of the cop cars parked in front of another business in the same strip mall - obviously not a break or meal stop for them. The place is a little dated. The menus have seen better days. And it's not immaculately kept. They don't offer Bahn Mi, either. But, the pho is fantastic! The broth is excellent! The service was good, too! I see why this place has good reviews. Spring rolls were better than other places I've gotten around town, yet I wasn't the biggest fan of the style of peanut sauce but it was still fine. The most amazing dish I had was the spicy noodle soup, which I added chicken to and upgraded to the yellow/egg noodles. My friend got the beef pho with shrimp, it's smell good right when they brought it out , she swears it was good an she thought she'll be able to take left over home, but she couldn't stop eating. They have a small or large bowl pho, the small was a good size , the large can feed two people . The pork chops with rice, good portion, I had left overs . I highly recommend this place . Found this gem on a cold evening about an hour before their closing time. Was seated promptly and service was quick. Ordered the large #8 (rare steak and meatball pho). Didn't get a chance to snap a pic before I doctored it up, but the broth was flavorful and there was a good ratio of meat to noodles. Been coming to the original Pho Vy for years since I moved to Bakersfield. Most people would probably pass this restaurant by because it's situated in a not-so-ideal part of town. However, once you get past the location, I think one would be pleasantly surprised to find that this spot offers some good eats! I'm a creature of habit so I always get the same thing: large Pho combo #1 and a side order of pork & shrimp spring rolls & Vietnamese iced coffee. Their combination pho comes with beef, brisket, tendon and tripe. Like most Asians who are used to eating pho with meatballs, you can easily add beef meatballs for an extra charge if you like. The spring rolls are not the typical ones you would expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. Theirs could use some more flavor like mint or cilantro and/or some shredded carrots or green onions. Depending on your mood, you can also try any of their vermicelli noodle salad dishes (Bun). I like #64 which is grilled beef and egg roll. The bun dishes eat more like a salad with fresh lettuce, bean sprouts, pickled daikon & carrots, crunchy peanuts and comes with the spicy fish sauce (Nớc Chấm). The grilled meat is seasoned with lemongrass and turmeric which gives added flavor to the dish. Unlike other places that premixes batches of iced coffee, Pho Vy drips their coffee fresh for each order. If you're like me and craves that strong coffee over ice with condensed milk, then this will hit that spot! My only pain point for this place is that sometimes the soup doesn't come out to your table hot enough. Other than that, there are plenty other dishes to choose from. The owners work at the South Union Ave location. They are nice people who need your support during this tough year. If you live in the Southwest area, they opened Pho Vy 2 on White Lane. But as with most things, the original is always the better choice. read more
