Came here for Mother's Day and this place was absolutely packed. Small dining room but from all the awards you can tell this spot is genuinely loved by the community. Servers were flying around all night but still sweet and attentive. Pad see ew 9/10 - Standard, does the job. Got it with beef and it was exactly what you'd expect. Nothing to complain about, nothing to rave about either. Tom kha 9/10 - Coconut forward and loaded with veggies. This one was delicious. The broth alone you'd want to drink straight from the bowl. Panang beef short rib 9/10 - Got way more short rib than we anticipated which was a pleasant surprise. Awesome dish, the panang was rich and had great depth. Fried chicken 8/10 - Good amount and impressively tender for chicken breast. The tamarind dipping sauce ties it all together nicely. Dumplings in panang 6/10 - Tasted like standard dumplings but served in panang curry which is an interesting combo. Not sure if this is a common Thai thing but it works, just didn't blow us away. Blue Elephant fried rice 9/10 - Well seasoned, savory, and honestly awesome. One of the better fried rices I've had. Today was Memorial Day and we were lucky to find a restaurant that wasn't a chain and open on this important holiday. Cha Cha was our most excellent server today. She was cheerful, kind and attentive. We shared the Tom Kah soup with chicken, the Pad Thai with pork, and the Cashew chicken. Every dish was delicious and beautifully plated. Their dishes are always fresh and prepared to order. No wonder they are one of Bakersfield's go to restaurants for Thai cuisine. The Blue Elephant has a warm and cozy interior of wood paneling. A solid 4 stars for Blue Elephant -- such a great find as a recent Bakersfield transplant by way of Portland, OR! The waitstaff were genuinely kind and attentive, the kind of people who make you feel taken care of without hovering. And bonus points: they actually listened when I asked for a 4/5 heat level on the green papaya salad; it came out perfectly balanced with just the right kick (not the usual "mild means medium means surprise fire alarm"). I also really appreciate the thoughtful plant-based options -- the curries especially hit the spot and didn't feel like an afterthought. I came on a weekday evening for dinner with two friends. We were quickly seated. The interior was very clean and welcoming. I ordered the pad see ew, my friends got the pad Thai and Hainanese chicken. The portions of the noodle dishes were quite small for the price, but I was happy with how my dish tasted! Delicious Thai food. It's my go to spot when I'm traveling to Bakersfield for work. Their tom yum soup is very flavorful. The papaya salad is fresh. I have chosen mild and medium and I will stick to mild. Their spice is big! Their dumpling appetizer does not disappoint. I've also had their pad Thai before and it's great. Food: in general it's not bad, but definitely a room to improve. The tom yum soup is our favorite. The drunken noodle isn't spicy as we thought and so did the Mongolian beef. The seasoning seems not enough and the beef is quite hard to chew as well. The portion and the price doesn't really match. Service: the staff is nice and helpful. This was also our go-to place in high school for catering at club events. Ive always ordered take out but when i ate here in person for the first time a couple months ago, i wanted to make a proper review. This has been one of my favorite restaurants for years. It has earned it's reputation, and its awards. The service is always top notch. The food is amazing. Jimmy is a very hospitable owner. The crab Rangoon has a ton of crab. The pineapple rice has lovely bits of char on the protein to counter the sweetness of pineapple and raisin. This place also has my very favorite dish of Curry Noodles. Make sure you get a decent amount of pickled mustard greens, because it makes the dish. read more

Staff is very friendly, despite always being busy due to the many to-go/online orders they have. Food comes out somewhat astoundingly quickly, despite how busy the kitchen must be. I think I liked my noodles order from last summer more than my recent yellow curry; the onion didn't seem quite cooked through enough in the curry and I think the sautéing accentuated the texture and flavor of the veggies and tofu more. I do feel like for the price, there could be a little more, or otherwise that the price could be a bit lower; I feel like it's a little higher than prices I see for similar dishes in bigger cities. There were 20 plus in our group for dinner this past week. It's not a big restaurant so we had to sit at 2 separate tables. We were greeted promptly. Our orders were taken and before we knew it, wonderful food was brought out to us! I highly recommend the Kung Pao Chicken- a tad spicy, a tad sweet and just delicious! Mistake on my part not reading the bill far more carefully. Sorry to see them mark our table as 6 with mandatory gratuity. Service was fair to decent so was fine with adding the 20% by itself but now we double tipped not expecting that policy, as the "suggested gratuity" at the bottom of the bill was based on our ordered items plus their mandatory gratuity. We took a chance on the few, what we consider Chinese food items, and we talked about the orange chicken and chow mien for days! Service is always great, attentive , friendly, and accurate. Cute and simple decor. Outside seating available. Plenty of free parking in the large shared lot. There are lunch specials and a small beer / wine menu. This spot is as authentic as you're going to get without comprising restaurant class. Dishes and flavors are true to Thai cuisine in all areas but spice level, but hey, this is Bakersfield and these folks don't want that REAL spicy. lol just ask for for chilies and spice up the food as you need. Speaking of, let's get to the goods. THE FOOD Thai Iced Tea: delicious. Not too sweet. Well balanced every time. Spring Rolls: always good. Not hella mushy filling like most restaurants make them. Naked Shrimp: fire. Really liked the wonton wrap. Pot Stickers: bomb! I typically get the veggie, but don't matter cause the curry sauce they drowning it in, yum yum yum Eggplant Tempura: could pass on, but if you feeling crispy fried eggplant, that's what you get. Orange Chicken: think about what you typically get at a Chinese restaurant but slightly larger pieces of chicken, way less greasy and sweet, and topped with crispy basil. I'm drooling. Chi- Chee Salmon: could pass. Mainly because the salmon size is small and over cooked for my taste. But again, that sauce they drowning it in, makes me drool. Blue Elephant Cha Cha: our family's favorite. Cooked to perfection and actually spicy. Not traditional, but good spicy. Fresh Ginger: I typically get tofu and is fire. So good. Garlic Green Beans: the best in the west! Literally the best sautéed green beans ever! Spicy Eggplant and Spicy Basil: both delicious. All the Curries. All the curries. All of 'em. Melts my heart the so damn good. Fried Fish: ooooh it came with the crispy basil on top. So good fish cooked to perfection. Whole steamed fish: delicate and delicious! I suggest the ginger sauce. Buyer beware! I love Thai food and I was hoping to find a new favorite. I ordered for pick up. Pad Thai and a small Tom Ka soup. They gave me Tom Yum soup instead and charged me $5 more per item than what the menu says on YELP. Two small items w/ tip,, $45 out the door. Soup was full of chunks of tomatoes and the chicken in the Pad Thai was burned black. I don't mind paying higher prices for good food but please update your menu to show current prices. Great tasting food. I had the Beef Pad Thai, my two friends had the Chicken Pad Thai. They also had Spring Rolls. Service was through Uber and was good. There was no ambiance because we ate at home. The reason for the four stars instead of five is two fold. First the prices are not reasonable. $90 for three meals and eight spring rolls. While the food is very good, the serving sizes are not worth the price. $24 for 8 Spring Rolls is ridiculous. They were actually smaller than the egg Rolls you get at Panda Express. Second, The Blue Elephant send our food in an open bag, and the containers of Spring Rolls were open. That is completely unacceptable. At no time, should a delivery person be able to have ready access to a person's food. If the bag is to small to seal, use two bags. Overall the experience was good except for those two issues. Will I eat the food there again? Yes. Will I order the food on Uber or Doordash? Absolutely not. Not because of Doordash or Uber messing up, but I do not want my food left open for any person to access. I do recommended their food, but not through delivery. read more

Wife wanted the Pad Thai and though, I thought the fried fish was good. The Pad Thai was not. We couldn't believe how different the chicken pad Thai tasted at C Fresh. Well I sure am trying some new things in Bakersfield. This is my 1st visit to a Thai restaurant. I'm a bit intimidated but excited at the same time. The place is pretty traditional with Formica tables a cushioned wooden chairs. Photos of their food is on one wall.. Tonight I'm having Pad Thai with chicken along with a piping hot mug of green tea. Angela, my waitress, said it isn't spicy so I asked for a bit of heat. The dish had chicken, noodles, green onion, peanuts, carrot and cabbage on the side. Sooo good! The heat was perfect spice wise. The chicken was however a bit dry but taken with noodles it wasn't that noticeable. The tea? Well, what can you say about green tea. It was also perfect an accompaniment.
