I try to avoid starchy foods and they'll happy substitute broccoli for the rice noodles, with no upcharge. I'm always impressed with the family that runs this place; they're a well oiled machine, and even when they're slammed with customers, they're cool as cucumbers, friendly and accomodating. The prices are extremely reasonable and I don't know where they source their vegetables, but they're always fresh and delicious. Best authentic vietnamese restaurant in Bakersfield. Right when my family and I walk in, the owner knows our order even if we haven't been there in months! We love her, she's too sweet! I usually order #2 on the pho soup menu with fresh shrimp spring rolls as my appetizer. If not pho, I'll order the clay pot with an over-easy egg on top. I usually substitute the sausage to spam. I did not try the pho at this place so don't use my review to judge the pho. I did order the seafood egg noodle dish and the spring rolls. The spring rolls were pretty plain. Nothing special. Small, not very much meat. I don't think it was worth it, but the price wasn't too bad. I didn't think I was being jipped. I actually really liked the egg noodle soup here. I got it dry because it is more flavorful to me. The noodles were nicely cooked and it had a few more shrimp than I had seen at other places. There was also a lot of fake crab meat. I'm not accustom to seeing that either. Overall for Bakersfield, I think this is a good Vietnamese restaurant even though I didn't try the pho. I've never tried Pho before. I went here on a recommendation from a co-worker. I phoned in an order for pickup for myself and a couple of co-workers. It was not a terribly complex order, but the woman manning the counter made sure to check everything before we left. I appreciate that very much as you don't always get that attention to detail in a pick up order. I ordered the small number 2 Pho soup which is a beef soup with thin steak slices, rice noodles, sprouts, onion, mint, jalepenos, and chili paste. The broth is served separate from the fixings. You decide how much of which ingredients you want to include in your Pho experience. As a mildly picky eater, I love that you decide your own fate when it comes to your Pho. The flavor of the broth was somewhat reminiscent of the flavor of corned beef (a familiar taste for this yelper). Don't let the word "small" fool you! A small is more that enough to fill you up, and possibly have leftovers. I would imagine a large order is meant to be shared. The order was ready in less than 15 minutes.
