This my favorite pho resturant in Bakersfield. I always get the dac biet combo beef pho. The Vietnamese pork egg rolls are perfect. The staff is friendly and very helpful if you have any questions. 3 stars for now but, there's definitely potential here. Bf and I came here at 8:45 p.m. on a Monday night. They were close to closing but, they let us in anyway. Bf orders a regular rare beef pho and iced Vietnamese coffee. The broth was good - not bland but, not soaking in spice either. The cuts of beef looked a bit thin to me but, bf was satisfied. The iced coffee was a fail. The lady near the front desk mixed some pre-strained espresso with the sweetened milk and tossed some ice in it. It was strong enough but, this coffee is meant to be diluted with water since its so strong. Clearly, she didn't get that memo! When bf asked her for hot water to dilute the coffee, she stared at him like he sprouted a third arm. I ordered a seafood pho. Again, the broth was good and the noodles were cooked to the standard pho consistency. There was plenty of seafood (shrimp, fish balls, and something else) but, the dish was fishy. Yes, it's a seafood dish but, it looks like they didn't strain the fish out of the broth and there were fish bits in the soup. I didn't hate it but, I didn't love it. The regular size bowls are about $6ish, which isn't too bad. However, I think the bowls are a little too small to justify that pricing. Very family friendly. Best french coffee in town, wish they would make the coffee serving a little bigger, I always feel like I need two servings. The fried rice is phenomenal. The prices are very reasonable and the people who work there are really nice. Give the locals some business! read more

This place is easily the best pho in Bakersfield. There is always something great about any aspect of what the restaurant has to offer. Starting with their customer service, the staff here makes you feel like you are part of their family. Then we get to talking about the food. Their chicken pho is the best tasting pho I have ever had. Easily the best tasting. The broth here is easily addictive, no matter what soup you order. Make sure to try their #38 entree with the filet mignon and fried rice. It comes with an amazing sautéed broccoli on the side which can be spicy if you ask. Very authentic tasting. I have eaten at Pho-Vi many times for lunch and have never had a dish that was not delicious. This place is smack dab in the middle of crazy town. Sitting on Union Ave. you can only guess what you will see walking up and down the streets. However, this place being so tasty I forget where I am. I have had the Pho as well as other dishes, and not yet even slightly disappointed. They always seem to have a lunch crowd, and it tends to be a quiet crowd (kinda nice). The food is always fresh. The super nice lady that always takes our order (guessing owner) takes it by memory and has not messed up a order yet. We have gone there with 5 people and she can remember the order exact. She always makes good suggestions if you are not sure what you want. The spring rolls are dynamite and the peanut sauce is a great compliment. If you like Vietnamese food I would suggest you give Pho-VI a chance, I believe you will be impressed. Ohh and if you like spicy, ask her to make it spicy! read more

I ordered pho and my companion ordered the bun thit nuong cha gio (vermicelli with grilled beef and egg rolls). The pho was decently but a little salty for my taste. The quality of meat was a little questionable but passable. The bun thit nuong was pretty good but the nuoc mam wasn't that great. I'll definitely come back if I need a Viet food fix. read more

Overall pretty good pho. I had my usual rare beef pho on my first visit here and the broth was solid. The noodles however were disappointing. It was just a big ball of tangled mess. Two others in our party ordered the same thing and everyones broth tasted a little different which we thought odd. This was before adding any of the standard accompaniments to our pho. The only reason we even tried this place is because my regular pho place next door is closed on Mondays. If I needed pho on a Monday I would come here. We came in as a group of 7 on our way back from Vegas and ordered 5 Phos and 2 Bun Bo Hues. I had a Bun Bo Hue and thought it was ok. The soup was a bit too sweet for me, but not unbearable. I saw some old white dude behind us pouring half the bottle of Hoisin sauce into the soup so I guess they're just catering to their clientele. I like my soup spicy, and the sugar in the soup was dulling all the jalapenos and hot chilli sauce that I added. After I finished my BBH, I decided to try some of my co-worker's pho soup (he was done with it.) The pho soup was so disgusting I automatically spit it back into the bowl without thinking. It was just wayyyyy too sweet. Nasty... Prices were fair, and the service was fine. But damn, I've definitely experienced better pho. read more

I've eaten a lot of pho across the country, and this place is really delicious. The pho was fresh and hot, as were the normal pho toppings. The portion was generous and I had enough to take home. The atmosphere is really laid back, a tv playing on one wall silently but with closed captions (though the reception comes and goes). This is my go-to Pho place for sure! Great tasting soup and close to work and home for me. Not located in the best neighborhood or area but still worth the trip when I'm craving for some Pho and spring rolls! Soup#1 is my usual order. It's a family favorite! Im not a very experienced Pho eater.. In fact I have just recently became facinated by it and have tried a couple of places in town. Some of the food I had here (lemongrass beef, spring rolls) was actually pretty good. I just dont think Pho is for me. I hate to give this place a bad rating just because I dont really like Pho, but the disgusting half filled fish tank with green algae right in the middle of the dining room is just gross. Went here with my mom and sister. It was first time having Vietnamese cuisine for both. So I ordered only phos for them, as wanted them to get the most famous item. We got chicken pho and beef combo. The broth for both the phos was rich and full of flavor. And the meat was also good. I have pho once a week not where I'm and I could say that this was hands down the best pho one could find in Bakersfield. And both my mom and sister also liked it and said they do look forward to Vietnamese food ahead. Came here on a Friday night and it was pretty much empty. We came as a large group and after ordering started talking to my friend and all of a sudden I hear this bitch of a waitress/owner YELL, "hello, hello, hello? you wanted a #3 right?" Like no, I asked for a #13 and you would effin' know if you wrote down the damn order instead of asking everyone to repeat their order and trying to be rainman. So I'm pretty new to the Pho scene. And happened to stumble upon a Gem. Driving thru Bakersfield my girlfriend and I felt like some noodles; so she yelped restaurants in the area and Pho Vy came up. And being pretty close to the freeway we stop in. We started with the shrimp-pork spring rolls w/ peanut dipping sauce and not only was it healthy it was delicious. Next our main course. Pho Vy has been opened for roughly 4 years and my family and I have been going there since they first opened. Initially, their noodle soup was just okay. We would go there because there really isn't another "okay" Vietnamese restaurant in Bakersfield, but in the past 2 years, the soup has gotten richer and exceptionally delicious!!! Being Vietnamese and moving to Bakersfield from the Bay Area, I KNOW good Vietnamese food!!! Pho Vy has matured in the past years and have now mastered the art of Vietnamese flavorings. Most of the time when we go there, we only order the beef noodle soup so I can't really comment on much of the other items served there. Once in a while I'd order the dry vermicelli noodle with grilled beef and eggroll, and it's good. What makes the dry noodle dishes good is the fish sauce, and Pho Vy has good fish sauce!!! My family & I go there once a week, usually on a Saturday morning! We love it there and especially because they know us so well. As soon as they see our car pull in the parking lot, they would set up our table and bring out the high chairs for my kids. I would definitely recommend this place! Mom and I had to hit this spot up, we were sad that the asian market that used to anchor the center was no longer. But, this place was packed. We were lucky to get a table immediately. We started with the fresh wraps....and fresh indeed. Mom had the Pho and though she said it was a bit on the salty side she managed to finish almost the whole bowl, and really enjoyed putting in the sprouts and goodies that came along the side. I had the pork vermicelli (extra spicy) and it was as good as it gets, I don't even remember chewing I must have inhaled it. The flavors, temperatures, textures of this dish complimented each other so well that I couldn't resist gobbling the whole thing. I love this place and hope to bring back the hubby soon. read more

I was feeling a little guilty because I haven't updated my pho list in a while-- I've just been taking the neophytes to my favorite regular joints to be indoctrinated, and all you pho killas out there would be happy to know that we've got a few more enthusiasts. Go team! Anyway, now that I'm on my travels for work, I can try out some new joints. I'd heard over Chowhound that there was a new pho place in Bakersfield, which made me happy because I can only eat at The Wool Growers so many times. First: Pho Vi is open until 9 PM. Pretty much everything, including the IHOP, closes at 8-freaking-o'clock, so anything open past that time (drugstores excluded) puts me over the moon. Also, their pho is standard, and excellent: clean, straightforward, no bullshit. The herbal woogie platter was well-appointed with limes, and they had my coconut juice. It's been a long time since I've eaten so fast I actually burped afterwards. Docked one star because I've got a little of an MSG headache and have to go guzzle a lot of water now, but today, I am very pleased, indeed. You did good, Bakersfield. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. The food is great and the service is just as good. I often stick to Pho and Spring Rolls, and I have never been disappointed. I took my mother here, who is also very into Pho from the LA area and she loved it. Cons: This is NOT a place for 'beginners' in Pho or Vietnamese cuisine.
