After lunch we went to the tea place next door and he called security on us. He was super rude and bum rushed to order eat and get out. Food: the spring roll had some rancid dry chicken in it. This place is worth going out your way! Not much in the way of decor, the fluorescent lights and tile floor give it a cafeteria kind of vibe. Service was fast and order taken by a nice lady who I'm sure hides a very nice smile somewhere under her frustrated perma-frown. Ordered the Pho Combo and Thai Tea. The drink arrived almost instantly, and the Pho was less than a minute behind. My usual Pho routine is to sample the broth as is, then start adding the basil, lime, sriracha et al. But this broth was sooo damn good! I lovingly slurped down at least 10 spoonfuls before pausing to consider adding some basil and lime. It is so good right out of the pot that it was hard to fathom changing anything. I could continue on and on about this Pho. But the summary is: It's Great!! Make a special trip to this place. Shocking the reviews this place has received. Our favourite Thai place was closed today so we decided to give Pho Vietnam #8 a try. Walked in to find boxes stacked in the corner, employees just lounging around, and told to just pick a table. I was looking forward to some nice hot Thai food on a blistering cold and windy day, so was greatly disappointed to find our first impression of a starkly cold and unwelcoming dining area. Either their thermostat was broken or they really want to discourage diners because every person in the restaurant kept their coats on. Service was dismal. We ordered fresh rolls and they brought them--without any extra plates so we had to eat them over the table while the lettuce fell out. For entrees we ordered pho, pad Thai and yellow curry. The pho was brought to our table about 10 minutes before the rest of the food and served with a tiny little plate of garnishes. It tasted okay. The curry was also just okay. The pad Thai was nearly inedible. Like another reviewer posted, it had a suspicious smell to it--so bad we couldn't finish it. I think the icing on the cake was the entire cook staff sitting across from us to eat their dinner. I get it--it was break time. But, if your staff is so concerned about their own dinner, then clearly they don't care about mine. We won't be going back or recommending this place to anyone. read more

hey, i don't normally do reviews but having bad customer service and seeing the workers treat this sweet old hispanic lady wrong, i just had to. i've been coming to this place for a couple of times now and every time i do go, the customer service is always bad and they always seem to treat their hispanic employee wrong, literally every time i go there. today was me and my husbands last time going there unfortunately. we ended up going there at around 7:30pm ? and they do close at 9pm. as we went, we ordered soup and drinks and stuff and it didn't come out until almost 8:30pm ? they also forgot most of our stuff and my husband had to go tell them and the lady was rude about it. and as we was waiting, they was already turning off their lights and everything. mind you, when we went there around 7:30pm, they already put up most of their chairs. anyway, there was a customer who came in and decided to sit where they already put up their chair, the old hispanic lady did try to redirect her to the tables and chairs where we was sitting at but that customer didn't listen. the worker ( asian lady ) told the customer to move in a rude way which caused the customer to leave and the asian lady decided to yell at the hispanic lady in front of everyone and literally spoke to her like she was a kid. i did not like that at all. if you have workers working for you, treat them with respect. don't treat them so little. and i don't know what they do behind closed doors, could be worse than what we see when we are there sometimes but yes, just decided to give a review and i think this is my first review ever for a place sadly. read more

I was craving Pho and looked up the closest location that was open. Arrived at 4 pm for an early dinner and was sat and served immediately. I ordered that crab wontons and beef pho. Doordashed it to my home and food was amazing. I got the khao piak sen (kao peik chicken written on DD) bc I've been craving it ever since the Hmong park closed for the summer. And you can tell the noodles are handmade because they're bouncy, chewy, and just so slippery. The consistency of the broth was exactly how I like it. Not too watery or thick. And goodness they put a lot of chicken pieces inside. And my boyfriend got yellow curry and it is amazing. Definitely will order khao piak again when I'm craving it. read more

The main thing that impressed me about this place is how HOT the food was. No, not the spiciness (which was pretty underwhelming, more later), the TEMPERATURE. It was PIPING HOT. And it came to my house via Door Dash! I guess those bags are insulated well. Pho Vietnam is obviously more of a Vietnamese place than a Thai place, but they do have Thai dishes. Why did my dumbass order Thai from a Vietnamese place? I was hungry for Thai, and feeling lazy...I couldn't find any Thai places that were delivering. The food was good and the portions were generous, but it was very underspiced. I ordered green curry, which is my usual "benchmark food" for Thai joints. I ordered it 5-star in spiciness and it was very mild. How mild? It was so mild that I thought I may have mixed up the to-go boxes and swapped mine for my girlfriend's. That wasn't the case. The food here is not very spicy. I know, shame on be for getting Thai from a place that doesn't specialize in it. If I could give this place more stars I would. First off, the friendly folks working there make you feel welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. The menu is full of great items and there are pictures on the wall, similar in most Asian restaurants, to show you what a dish would look like. Ok, now on to the pho! Hands Down the best bowl in town! I am always greeted by a near boiling bowl of delicious broth full of meats and noodles. They don't skimp on the meats like most other pho places. I normally get the pho combo with no tripe. This has rare beef, meatballs, brisket and tendon. The brisket and tendon are always cooked perfectly and melt in your mouth as it should. They have many options for folks that like anything from seafood to tofu, or a meat head like me. For those that love the comfort of a pork bun, this is also the best one you can get in Anchorage! They make them fresh and they are gigantic! The inside is Full of pork filling. This can be appreciated by going anywhere else and getting a very small amount of meat inside a huge bun. I have had many different things on the menu and I would say that you can't go wrong no matter what you order! Pro Tip: Ask for the housemade pickled jalapeños for your fresh rolls, they don't have them on the tables generally, but ask for them and it will make your experience amazing. Put some peanut sauce on your roll and put a slice of jalapeño on top and take a bite, then repeat! Overall, this isPho Vietnam 8 is in my top two Vietnamese spots in town. I arrived an hour prior to closing to a restaurant with half of it containing chairs up on tables. Perhaps they were trying to get ahead of closing time and begin their cleaning duties. I sat down and order a Tom Yum with shrimp. It was a large portion served with a side of rice. I am fam of Tom Yum due to the classic lime, ginger and cilantro among other things. I really appreciated that the soup contained 5 big shrimp pieces. Some places go cheap and only offer 3 and so I will certainly make this my go to place for Tom Yum. The absolute best Pho in Anchorage. We eat here at least once a week. We're are always warmly welcomed and we leave with happy bellies full of pho goodness. The food is always fresh, piping hot and generous portions. The few times we have ordered something other than the Pho, it has been excellent (Pad Thai, Crispy Pork Belly, misc noodle dishes...) Pro-Pho-Tip: If you want a more veggie-forward experience, ask for all-veg and be blown away by the huge portion of many different veggies, cooked to perfection, swimming around happily in your bowl of Pho broth. This is my go-to spot for pho in Anchorage. I'm surprised none of the reviews have explicitly mentioned it so far, but the owner behind all the Pho Vietnam locations actually works here. Let that be indicative of the quality you should expect. The broth here is satisfyingly rich with a pleasant body. Not masked with sugar or under-seasoned like most places have it. Portions are sizeable and the service is consistently great. One would be remiss not to order the pho combo, which basically comes with everything you'd ask for in a bowl of pho: steak, tendon, brisket, tripe, meatballs. In other words, a meat orgy. Noticeably absent is oxtail, which can be ordered as its own separate thing. If you're looking to change it up, the spicy noodle soup (aka bun bo hue) is a great alternative, provided you can handle a little fuego. Another great option is their vermicelli combo--a dry noodle dish with freshly grilled meat and some fried spring rolls. Suffice it to say, Pho Vietnam 8 might just be the best place in Anchorage to get pho. With an extensive menu covering both Vietnamese and Thai cuisines, there's something here for everybody. We finally received our order after 1.5 hours and what a disappointment. First off, my order was incorrect. I ended up getting a chicken pad Thai instead of shrimp for one of my orders. Now, I would usually let it go but they charged additional $2 for shrimp. On my actual shrimp pad Thai order, I found ONLY 2 shrimps! I was basically charge $1 each shrimp. The food tasted old and like it was reheated. Definitely, not very appetizing. This is the 3rd Pho Vietnam I've been to and each one has great tasting broth in their pho. Many places in town have good broth and below, but these places are consistently tasty. I tried this place out on a Wednesday evening and the place was not busy, with only a couple of tables sat at. I ordered my usual and was happy that the flank was served raw as written on the menu. I think some places will let it cook a bit so that the consumer is not turned off by the site of pink meat, but really it should cook in the scalding hot broth while eating. One thing that I liked about this place is that it looks a little cleaner and has newer tables that the Denali St. option, but I like all the windows at the other place since it makes it much brighter in the restaurant. One downside is that since it's off of Fireweed the parking lot in front of the shop is really tight, but has additional parking on the side of the building. I don't really understand who designed business buildings or street construction back in the day, but it definitely wasn't for a higher city population than 500. Will come again happily. read more
