We ordered for lunch at work today. We ordered 6 different items and 2 of them were incorrect I ordered the Ba mee heng and received pad tai w/chicken. I now remember why I never order chicken at an Asian place. Dry and overcooked. No flavor. The Pad Tai was super dry. Just kind of gummy noodles. ick. A co-worker ordered Tom yum with shrimp and received it with chicken, no shrimp. Another ordered a curry dish she said was good. The other 2 said their dishes were fine. I have never eaten here before and I'm probably not even going to give it a second try. Disappointing. Maybe they were having a bad day but to totally mess up 2 out of 6 orders doesn't inspire confidence. read more

Thai kitchen is only offering take out at this time. I visited in early June of 2021 (7 months ago) and it was the same way. Food - I was very much into the sliced jalapenos. They were tasty, spicy, and sliced vertically instead of the normal (at least to me) circular fashion. I note the slice pattern because the jalapeno tasted different. More spice, less pepper maybe? It complimented the lightly sauced cabbage and veggies. Solid serving sizes. Great flavors. Service - Excellent service. Very friendly and accommodating from the moment I walked in. I think they have had time to iron out the take out game and they do it with ease and efficiency. Cleanliness - The entire restaurant has tables and chairs pushed up and stacked against the walls. On the table closest to the door, there were sauces to go. Things like chili paste and soy sauce. This area was clean and neat, which is impressive since there could have been spilled sauces everywhere. Notables - I think it is called mi grop. It's not on the menu. (I heard about it from a regular patron of this restaurant). When I mentioned it over the phone, they immediately knew and were happy to make it. read more

At first glance, this appeared to be a Thai take on "Turo Turo" dining (see: https://www.yelp.com/biz/eldrics-pinoy-cooking-anchorage) A hot case where you pick three things you want, for $11, and then you are on your way. I got that. But when I sat down I realized they also had a menu. When I saw the menu items other customers had order begin to arrive, I realized I had made a big mistake. The food was good, but I found the portions to be very underwhelming. A massive mound of white rice, and tree small scoops of the Thai food. I was pretty impressed by the default level of heat some of these had. (again, for Alaska) Get some food from the case if you're in a hurry and don't have much of an appetite. I have not been to Thai Kitchen recently, but I am updating my review as they have made significant improvements in terms of health and safety. As of May 2019, their health score was 98 out of 100, which is much better than their score of 79 two years prior. I am glad they took action towards improving health and safety for their customers. For that reason I would be willing to go back during my next trip to Anchorage. I will also say I'm impressed that, according to other reviews, they still have their lunch special for $11. It's a great deal for the amount of food you get and there's a pretty good rotating selection with both meat and vegetarian options. read more

I've been wanting to eat here for a while. My son and his girlfriend come frequently. They brought me on a Saturday. I have to tell you, the weekend hours are perfect for me. They open at 5 p.m. so come then because they seem to get busy fast. The menu is extensive! There's not much I wouldn't try. The restaurant is immaculate. There's a little stern woman behind cooking and the food is just sublime. I got a red curry at my son's recommendation. It was delicious! Spicy and flavorful. I love the presentation of the rice. I'll start this noting that we're in the middle of the corona virus pandemic and maybe it's affecting quality... Have had ok dishes before from this place and not so great dishes but today was disappointing and I thought I'd add a rating, and pics bec. We ordered takeout: fresh rolls, fried rolls and chicken satay. The chicken was good. The fried rolls were dripping grease and tasted like rancid oil. The fresh rolls were lacking, specifically the shrimp which looked like it came out of a can... seriously disappointed. I havent been here since before the pandemic. I work close so thai kitchen and they were always one of my regular places (at least once a week!!) I'm so happy to know its just as good as before! They open at 5pm for to-go dinner orders. I got there on time and they had everything structured out. I didnt mind waiting the extra five minutes while they finished prepping my order and the gentleman brought it to my car so I didnt have to wait in the restraunt. Disappointed! The owner said everything is gluten free and they don't have any gluten in the facility. Nima showed a completely opposite result. There was a lot of gluten in the food and not just due to cross contamination. Also, when I talked to him afterwards he wasn't impressed and said everything is gluten free. We went here tonight, following a recommendation from a fellow Yelper, who told me their Massaman was good, and as that is my go-to Thai dish, i thought we'd give it a try. Located in an unassuming strip mall, next to a Froyo place on E Tudor, I'd probably have never went here without the recommendation. The interior is relaxed and casual, not what I'd call "posh" or fine dining, but equally, it's welcoming and nice, and we were greeted as we entered and ushered to a table. It was busy on a Friday at 6pm, so that's a good sign. I don't like places where the walls are cluttered with a ton of artwork, and this one has a few select pieces, and a TV which had a food program on. It was making me even hungrier. I ordered a Lychee Honeydew bubble tea with boba, which I'd never had before. It was so good. I'd had the fruity popping boba, but not the tapioca chewy boba, so this was new to me, and i was pleasantly surprised. Fresh, creamy, yet a fruity refreshing taste. I had a boba accident. I got a boba blockage in my straw, and tried to blow them out - there was a mini explosion and i ended up covered in bubble tea, all over my face and shirt. So classy Wendy. We ordered the mixed sampler platter of appetizers. Crispy fried Thai roll, fried tofu, fried shrimp, and fresh Thai roll with the wrap that is see through, but i wont eat them, because thy remind me of skin. They came with a fresh cucumber dip, and a sweet sesame dip. All was very good, hot and crispy. The wait was as expected, considering how busy it was, but i was starved, I tell you. Husband ordered the chicken Panang, I ordered Massaman with Beef. I had super high expectations. I liked the serving dishes which were metal, with an engraved pattern. Mine came out first, And it was a resplendent, large serving, accompanied by a bowl of brown rice which I thought was unusual, as it usually come with white sticky rice, but i just thought that was how they did things here. So i dished it up. At which point our server came over with a container of white rice, explaining that the brown rice was a mistake - too late, it's already on my plate. We weren't charged extra for it. It is at this point I have to express my frustration. I am now IMPALED on the horns of a dilemma. Just stuck. Previously, I was firm, in my unwavering support of Tok Thai, Glenallen, as being the best Massaman in Alaska, but now, I'm SHOOK. To my core. This Massaman is different. Not better, or worse. Different. It has fantastic tender chunks of beef, in a rich, complex, Massaman sauce. The sauce is not as creamy and peanutty as Tok Thai, but it is equally flavoursome. It's a more layered flavour palate, I'd say, using more Massaman paste, and relying less heavily on peanut for the flavour. And it contained all the constituent parts that make Massaman such an appealing comfort food choice. There are more potatoes in this one, more beef, and the beef is of a "pot roast" tenderness, there are plenty of peanuts, and onions. And, I'd like to take just a moment to celebrate probably the more humble ingredient, and of course the one i worship most. The potatoes in this dish are superior. There. I said it. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Starchy, and enough of them to satisfy even me, a potato aficionado. Lord I am torn tonight. I'd not like to choose between the two, because i love them both. I'd say Tok Thai MAY take shortcuts to achieve the comfort food aspect of the dish, that I love so much, and maybe adds peanut butter and lots of coconut cream. And i love it, there's no denying it. But Thai Kitchen remains true to the actual recipe, i believe, because I've made it a few times, and mine tastes more like the one I had here. My husband enjoyed his Chicken Panang, which was spicy, rich, and packed full of tender chicken. I didn't really bother tasting his too much, i was obsessing on my Massaman. I couldn't eat it all, there was a lot of food, and i do have a to-go box with actual meat in it. Meat, sauce and rice. I won't eat it, he can have it for his lunch tomorrow, as my diet is not going well, fellow Yelpers. We will definitely come back here, i'm glad to know there is good Thai in Anchorage, and not having to drive 180 miles to Glenallen just for dinner, like we did yesterday! read more

This has always been one of my favorites, even back in 2006 (I think) when I first encountered them. Good food, a large variety. Their Larb is of the prep I prefer, and their Tom Khar Gai (I always spell it wrong) makes my wife very happy. Always friendly, the addition of the Teas and other snacks make this place a good solid draw. There is a lot of seating, though it can still be crowded, especially at Lunch at times. read more

So, I had reviewed and updated twice and found that my reviews were flagged, so I am reposting! Take that Yelp! I had been going here for years and found that although the service is super sucky the food kept me coming back. I used to love the Shu Shee tofu, peanut sauce, and the Tom Kha soup. The food has come down in quality over time, and although I walked out after we were sat waiting for service for 45 minutes, I came back for take out since this joint has gluten free options and a friend cannot properly digest wheat. Curries were very watered down, and pal's meat was dry, so I will pass on this place again. There are a lot of great Thai restaurants in Anchorage, though this is one of the long standing ones. Shame shame. I still think the fresh roll sauce is the best in town, but it's just garlic chili sauce mixed with simple syrup and topped with peanuts. I should just make it myself... read more

We have been here so many times because we really enjoy the food. But this is the THIRD time that we have found HAIR in our food. It does not match either of our hair at all and was cooked into the food. It's not fun to get food to go and realize it has hair when you get home. Waste of money and we are done for good read more

Thai Kitchen is a small family run restaurant usually filled with regulars and it shows. Located in a strip mall off of Tudor Road in the UMed district next to Uncle Joes Pizza, because of its location and popularity among locals this place fills up fast. So get there early if you are planning on lunching here. Or call ahead to have your order ready to go. While the food tends to be consistent and tasty admittedly there are times when the staff seems overwhelmed by the sheer amount of people that eat here. They have a great lunch buffet with a variety of foods and a large menu for varying tastes. These include a wide array of curry, noodle, vegetarian and other dishes with beef, pork or chicken. One particular favorite is the green bean chicken/beef as well as the cashew chicken and larb beef. Most entrees are served with rice and you can always add extra vegetables or meat or even substitute brown rice for a small upcharge. Despite sometimes having an off day in service or sometimes service being abnormally slow, I will continue to come back for the quality and taste of the food. Thai Kitchen is definitely not the best Thai food in town but with the wide array of items on the menu and for convenience it ranks as "a-okay" in my book. read more

I'm not sure if I just had high expectations because this place had been recommended by a friend or if the food is really that lackluster. I think that the food was really just that lackluster. First of all, the chicken pad thai is really good here. I wish that is all I had ordered and I would have left a happy camper, except that it was a little over-priced. My friend and I ordered a coconut soup to share. It came out looking more like a type of red curry and did not taste ANYTHING like coconut soup. It was bland and mostly tasted of chicken broth. My friend ordered a red curry for lunch which came out looking and tasting exactly like the coconut soup. The only difference was that the curry had bamboo shoots and the soup had mushrooms. Then there's the price tag. It's totally cool if you are a neighborhood thai restaurant that may not have the best food, but at least make it affordable. It was one of those chilly cold wintry days when you don't feel so hot and know you're in need of something especially yummy to eat that's also healthy. I'm so glad I stopped in at Thai Kitchen Express Market. Starting with a perfectly made Thai tea, I took a long while with the menu as it had lots of intriguing dishes on it. Finally I settled on the Lucky Noodles and Tom Kha Gai. Beautifully garnished with fried basil, the Lucky Noodle dish had a flavorful complexity that instantly became a new favorite comfort food. There's a little bit of self-service here, which appears to keep the costs down at a reasonable, come back again price point. The Tom Kha Gai is for my husband, so I can't yet report on it, but expectations are high. read more

The food used to be excellent , it's still good but not as good as it used to be. Because of the COVID 19 virus everything is take out now and we have noticed the portions are a lot smaller but the prices stay the same, why? The running costs are less as they are not employing so many people now , they thank us for supporting them which is nice , but I feel they may be taking advantage of the situation. Highly recommend their lunch combo. Rice and 3 items. Is it the most authentic Thai restaurant? No, but they do well with the produce that is available, (ie. jalapeños instead of Thai chilis. Shu shee kai and the massaman curry are my favorites. The yellow curry can be a little too mild at times and a little watered down. I've never heard a complaint about their green curries either. Service isn't great, but the lunch combo makes it a quick in and out. read more
