I had DoorDash from here once, and really enjoyed the Gaeng Massaman, then promptly forgot where I'd gotten it from. But tonight, after going to a different Thai food restaurant, who are now takeout only, which is a no-go, I needed an alternate, so I randomly selected from Yelp, a good Thai food recommendation, and when this appeared, I realised it was the place where I'd gotten the good Massaman from. However, their description states they are noted for their standout Panang. The interior is ok, not fine dining, standard tables and chairs, not too cluttered with artwork, and music was playing. As I also love Panang, I chose to have that with chicken, and husband ordered something called Khao Mu Dang. We also ordered a Thai Tea. The server was energetic, and smiled a lot. We didn't have to wait long, I was served a hefty portion of rice, and a big bowl of curry sauce. Mine came out first, and I started without him. I must say that I do agree, this is standout Panang, and it's the best I've had in Anchorage. It's just the right amount of kick. Just enough to get my nose running after a few mouthfuls. The sauce is amazing, and the chicken is plentiful, and very tender, and I do have leftover sauce and rice in the fridge for later. If it were served on its own as a soup, without rice, I'd call it "Chicken Soup for the Soul" because it surely did my soul good, even eating it alone without rice. Superb, perfectly spiced, perfectly seasoned, deliciously umami. I think I could eat this several times a week, and not feel cheated. His dish had some pretty spectacularly flavoured pork, it was delicious, and the sauce, yet again, so good, but his was what they call a "dry dish" whereas mine was "soupy" or maybe they call it wet. I don't know, all I know is, that the amount of times I was saying "mmmm" was kind of embarrassing. So, that was an absolutely delightful dinner, and I'm grateful because we'd not been anywhere in recent weeks that thrilled me like this. Will definitely be back for more. Hole in the wall Thai place with an excellent reputation. The place was Pa Jed around 1:30 on a Saturday. The woman working there-could not have been nicer-seated me as quickly as possible and apologized for the inconvenience. I got the fresh rolls (Summer rolls) with shrimp and shrimp fried rice (level 4-1 below Thai hot). I typically would never get fried rice at a Thai restaurant although it is common to their cuisine but I was not in the mood for curry or noodles. The dish was fresh, spicy, the shrimp were large and fresh. Simple, tasty, cooked to order and uprising flavorful. The fresh rolls were delicious, overstuffed, and came with two dipping sauces; the standard peanut sauce (although a little thinner than what is typical) and what was similar to a green goddess sauce/dressing. Both sauces were just ok. I prefer chili oil and luckily the table condiments had that and several others to offer. The meal was inexpensive and overall delicious. The only authentic Thai restaurant in Anchorage without a doubt. The food is decent overall. I visited the place multiple times over the course of one month, and here's my ranking of the dishes I ordered. Larb - Flavorful like how Larb is supposed to be. Order it with sticky rice! Pad Kra Tiem (Garlic) - Great authentic Thai garlic pork. They do not americanize the dish with irrelevant vegetables like most other Thai places. Pad Kra Pow (Thai basil) - You can't really go wrong with this. Expect an authentic style which is dryer and uses ground meat. Kuay Tiew Pok Pok - Decent flavors. Great bbq pork. Bah Mee Moo Dang - I ordered the dry style with a side of broth. A bit bland but you can ask for their seasoning set if you dine in (which has sugar, fish sauce, etc). Also comes with the blandest fried wontons. Kuay Tiew Gai Chick Chick - Had to order it because it is almost impossible to find in the US. Ordered it with thin rice noodle. Great quality chicken but it seems almost unseasoned and comes out extremely bland. Expect to season this yourself with the seasoning set. Khao Kai Jeow (Thai omelet) - Plain old Thai omelet with no meat in it. A bit disappointed that it did not come with a side of Thai sriracha (which is a must in Thailand). Pad Thai - I ordered this twice and felt it was so bland both times. The egg wrap is a nice touch though. I do love the ambiance, which is "so Thai". Service was good. However, when the restaurant is busy, the bottleneck seems to be the kitchen and you should expect to wait 30+ minutes for food. I'd give the place 3.5 stars, but rounded to 4 because of the authenticity in style and ingredients that sets them apart in Anchorage. read more

This is my 3 rd time for me to visit the restaurant. The food taste likes street food you get it in Thailand. Many varieties of Thai food you can find here. If it is not delicious, it would not have been the 3 rd time of chime that I visited. The vibe here is so so casual like Thai style. Vibrant of 7 colors of flower wrapping in the middle of the restaurant with the disco ball. I have never seen something like this for a long time. While I haven't eaten in the restaurant yet, I get takeout from here once in a while. It is amazing. The chicken panang is incredible. Mild still has a decent amount of spiciness (for me at least) and has incredible flavor. The spring rolls are also really good. Super crunchy. I definitely plan to dine in soon so I can speak to the service and atmosphere. From the other reviews I've read, I don't think I'll be disappointed! read more

Wow... I went to check in and I can't believe I have never done a review on this place for the many times I have been here! This place is epic! They are so far the only place where I can get a creamy Tom yum soup and I really only come here for that dish. However, I have been here with friends as well and they have said the dishes they get are always fantastic! Thai tea is always good when I come here, but last time I was here it was a bit too sweet for me. Obviously it varies from day to day and who makes it, but Thai tea for me outside of my home is always a treat for me to be honest! (I just hate paying for it when I can make it) The portions are small in my opinion, and only way to solve that issue is to order another portion which I have done sadly lol I did notice the pricing went up from when they first opened and that's to be expected with inflation. *this place really only has 1 person handling the cashier, seating people, taking orders and delivering food. So you must have a little patience if you are in a hurry* This place is small and only has a few tables. It resembles outside/street food life in asia. Simple tables with folding chairs that can be made for 1-2 people or 3-4 per table or they drag tables together for a larger party. Pros - panang curry uses fresh peanuts, instead of using a premade paste - rice is fluffy and soft Cons - curry us WAY too sweet and creamy. it's so sweet that it's close to inedible. not authentic at all. caters to american palates, but even then... too sweet. i had to throw the curries out - not spicy at all, even if you request spicy - meat quality is mediocre with a very strange after taste. maybe it's starting to spoil. it's almost as if they're trying to cover it up with the intense sweetness. beware the pork Conclusion - i've been searching for authentic thai in anchorage (less cream, more flavor, uses mortar & pestle). i haven't found it yet. the search continues read more

A small, Thai spot tucked away in Anchorage. It's pretty unassuming from the outside but the inside has a ton of fun decorations. The food tasted pretty authentic and they take their spice seriously, so beware! They have a limited menu, in comparison to some other Thai spots and I wasn't able to change some items on the menu to be more vegetarian-friendly. That being said, I was super happy with my dish! I got the Drunken Noodles (Pad Kee Mow) and it was SO GOOD. The tofu was perfect and the noodles were the right amount of chewy and everything was flavorful. I made the mistake if ordering Pad Thai from this place. It took over an HOUR for one single order of pad Thai to be delivered, and what was delivered was a congealed pile of what I assume was noodles at some point, a tiny bit of shredded chicken and a cold egg on top. We've been customers for years but unfortunately the quality of food and the price per entree recently has been unsatisfactory in the last few visits. Tonight we ordered fresh rolls, pad thai, pad ziew, and massaman curry. The food was terribly bland and had no flavor. The amount of food and its quality was not worth almost $20/entree. The fresh rolls were dry and I thought they used to come with noodles inside, but maybe not. They should though! Our first venture in Anchorage while awaiting our hotel check-in. There was a bit of confusion as to parking in the nearby lot, since So Thai apparently isn't considered one of the businesses that shares the space, though part of the structure they share. So we had to move our rental car down the street a couple of blocks. The nice young lady server wasn't even sure if we were okay in the lot, odd. But we weren't the only ones moving their vehicle to avoid a ticket, seems they patrol through here regularly even with numerous empty spaces in the back lot. Scanning over our menus, Thai Iced Tea was our first request. Water was also provided with tin cups. We settled on Chicken Pad Thai, a bowl of Kuay Tiew Gai with chicken, and steamed rice. The Thai Tea had an indescribably weird taste and I'd never order it again. The Kuay Tiew Gai was very well seasoned and probably the best thing on the table, while our Pad Thai was just average but okay. Highly rated Thai Street Food for Anchorage, but nowhere near as good as the best Thai we're use to eating in the LA area. read more

The food was delicious, but for the prices portions are small and missing ingredients that are key in the Thai experience. The papaya salad comes in a bowl with nothing else--no veggies or rice. I expect my som tom to come with cucumbers and Chinese cabbage. At least some rice. The fresh rolls come in a paper container and are not wrapped, so they arrive dried-out and sticking to the container, meaning of you want to eat them you'll be eating some of the container as well. My husbands larb was $12 and contained about a half cup of actual larb. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty disappointed by our experience. We don't have a lot of money but we are trying to support local restaurants as much as possible. I understand everyone is trying right now, but these are easy fixes. read more

The pad Thai is def more authentic than most places for sure! It's not the Americanized version that's a more slightly orange/reddish color. So delicious and with the lime to squeeze on top! The larb was great, though I wish it had more lime and mint flavor- but I'm a huge lime and mint lover so I always love a ton. It wasn't dry at all, which Ive noticed in other places. Great portions, cute local and comfy vibe inside the restaurant. Amaziiiing staff, very helpful, and kind! Their suggestions are great, I mentioned I was having a hard time deciding and I kept going back and forth with curry. I was excited to try this place because of the Yelp reviews and I was very underwhelmed. The service was okay, and it was decently busy, but the food was very different than what I'm used to and it just tasted bland. We ordered: Drunken Noodles Pad Thai Fresh Rolls Curry Fried rice The fried rice was okay and the curry we ordered was okay as well (although the chunks of chicken did not taste right to me). Birthday dinner for the wife and of course it had to be her fav cuisine - THAI. Having tried most of the thai restaurants in town, we wanted to find a new place. So, so Thai it was! We walked into a very basic setting-nothing fancy at all. Plain tables and chairs and we even wondered if they had a full kitchen(they apparently do). We started off with the chick satay. My wife has the chicken green curry and I had the beef massaman curry. The food was really good. We finished off with the fried roti-it was this friend roti which was sweet and I had no idea until then that it was a Thai thing. Really reasonable prices, good and quick service and somehow gave us this homey feel-like the food was coming out of a home kitchen. We enjoyed it.
