I was in town and needed a veg-friendly option and Thai is always good for that. Had my food delivered so I can't speak to the condition of the restaurant, but overall the food was nothing special/pretty forgettable (I had the pad kee mao (Drunken Noodles); my sister got the green curry which was actually pretty darn good). read more

Guys, the food is so, so good here. I've returned to So Thai on numerous occasions since our trip to Bangkok last year. What drew me back this time was the addition of Khao Soi to their menu. What is Khao Soi? Oh nothing... just every noodle lover's dream. Tender egg noodles doused in a creamy, peanut-y curry soup along with delicious chunks of chicken, all topped with a mountain of fried noodles. Heaven in a bowl. Also foodgasmically great is the Thai pork jerky. I was expecting something akin to dry meat bark but there was a surprisingly high moisture content and literally the perfect chew. And there was a pleasureable amount of fat in each bite. The dipping sauce it comes with takes it to astronomical levels of flavor. Just try it. I'd be remiss not to mention how great the service is here. And I can't get enough of how colorful everything is. So Thai is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Anchorage. read more

If you're looking for authentic THAI food, I think this place is authentic as it can get. From my experience, I've noticed that most restaurants that serves Thai food are ran by Lao folks. Thai and Lao food are very similar and easily to get mixed up with since most establishments has both Thai and Lao food items on their menu and often times Vietnamese dishes (pho for example). You'll notice in their menu where there are certain items that are from the north eastern region of Thailand (Thai issaan) which is a fusion of both Thai and Lao. Boat Noodles - one of the best I've ever had. This is pretty much the Thai version of pho except the broth is much bolder and is full of flavor. When I say flavor I mean, your taste buds are gonna be kicking' from left to right and all around! Each bite is savory, salty, sweet, sour and spicy (only if you prefer)! If you love Thai boat, don't go anywhere else in town. This place serves authentic and legit boat noodles where as you don't even need to season it (most Lao owned restaurants that serves boat noodles are more towards the pho side except they tweak the broth and add garnishes to pass for boat noodles and most times, you'd need that set of condiments on the table as you would with your pho). Kao mun Ghai - the ginger chili sauce is ON POINT! The chicken, however, I didn't care for. I may be biased as I prefer thigh meat over breast. It's boiled chicken breast that is thinly sliced. Chicken was dry and lacked flavor. Kao mu dang - if you like char su pork, you might like this. It's pork that's marinated in char su seasoning, cooked and thinly slice. Nothing special about it really. If you like crispy pork belly anything, I say go for it!!! Serving portions are lacking. Could be better. read more

We love their chicken Penang Curry! It has the perfect amount of kick to it and is packed with flavor! Their staff are all so nice too. If their even like a minute late from having your take out ready, they offer a free drink or something. So nice! read more

great service. I ordered take out with the fried noodle. you can choose what kind of noodles you want. I like the flat rice noodles. kuai tiew nam dunh has nice spicy and sweet soup and kuay tiew pok pok is the fried noodle. I would order the soup again but probably needs a side of veggies. they give a good portion of meat and noodles. I'm looking forward to try the curry and other rice dishes. read more

So so so good. We ordered from So Thai solely because of the Yelp reviews. It's close by that we picked up once but the delivery is so convenient (and fast!) through Grubhub that tonight we got delivery. Two meals fed two adults and a teenager (I did get extra veg, because I'm a mom) which is pretty much unheard of. The menu changes up, especially the desserts, so we have been able to get out of our comfort meals (larb and Pad Thai) and try new things. New AMAZING things. read more

Can't believe I haven't left a review on this place. Probably my favorite curry that I have had in Alaska. I am a sucker for yellow curry and this place does not disappoint. I can't say too much about the place, due to COVID I have only ever DoorDashed it. HIGHLY Recommend read more

I ordered Grubhub from "So Thai". Unfortunately I ignorantly asked for extra vegetables they put a half of a head of cabbage in my Panang chicken. If I wanted a half head of cabbage, I could have gone to the supermarket and bought a cheap head of cabbage and just eaten it. If I am not mistaken, the correct vegetables for Panang chicken would be tomatoes, onions, celery, carrots, bell peppers, and Thai basil, and maybe a spruce of cabbage, but not a half pound of cabbage and none of the others! I am grateful to have had a meal, it just irks me that people don't know how to cook these days. Really? Literally a half pound of cabbage. Maybe if I would have gotten the beef I could pretend it was corned Irish Panang... read more

This Thai place is vibrant in its color, food and service. The staff is so friendly and open to menu adjustments for allergies. Even with those changes, the food was extraordinary. I had vegan pad Thai and it was easily one of the top 3 I've had in the country. Hubby got a northern specialty, khao Soi, that tied for deliciousness with the best Thai restaurant for 20 years running in Las Vegas. Ate til we burst. It does close on the earlier side so make sure you get here by 7pm or take it to go. You won't be sorry. No alcohol. read more

Food - the dish I ordered, a #1 with rice noodles was a spin off Pho dishes I have had. Several new and exciting flavors enlisted my taste buds. There was a good deal of garlic. The broth was a deep brown color contrary to the somewhat clear broth I'm used to in Pho. Bean sprouts and basil all came in the dish instead of on the side. The meatball and pork were very tasty but the beef was just falling apart. So succulent and tasty. Notables - you seat yourself and head up the cash register on your own to pay. There are tooth picks and mints. There appears to only be water and maybe hot tea. I only saw people drinking water. There is one lady serving the whole restaurant AND helping in the kitchen. She disappears to the back for lengths of time but emerges with delicious entrees. Be prepared to wait a little while. Worth the wait. Totally worth it. read more

Super solid Thai restaurant in Anchorage. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu or the special menu. We went there twice during our visit and tried roti, spring rolls, beef jerky with rice, a few different kinds of noodles. Everything is delicious. The Khao Soi has a particular rich curry broth with multiple layers of favor. It is Americanized to a degree due to the lack of certain ingredients, but it is not your typical Americanized Thai food. Don't expect everything to be crazily sweet. It does take a bit to prepare the food, so plan ahead or be patient. The Thailand chef (maybe also owner?) told us they cannot get Thai chill most of the time, which explained why their spiciness is quite mild for me. However, she amazed me by executing the dishes so well with the limited ingredients, and she was able to bring out the favors of every ingredients she has which definitely reminds you of the freshness of Thai food. If you are lucky, she might come out of the kitchen and share a tip or two about cooking Thai dishes if you ask nicely. read more

Good tasting food but the fried pork wontons were raw. I would eat here again but pre-check food before eating.

It's an unassuming little strip mall joint with folding chairs and plastic table cloths but don't let that fool you. The Khao Soi from So Thai is easily the best thing I ate while in Alaska. Rich broth with just the right kick of spice and lime. Absolutely delicious. We tried their fresh rolls and a garlic special that were standard fare and quality for your average Thai joint. The staff was casual and friendly. Two thumbs way you. read more

So yummy! We tried the Thai tea, spring rolls, a curry dish, and the pad Thai. All were excellent. Busy and bright little place.

My wife has been wanting to go here for over a year now! We finally had time to go and we wish we would've gone here a year ago! The service was great, fast and very friendly. I had the omelette over rice and my wife has been seeing there noodle dishes with their amazing broth. There are so many Thai restaurants here in anchorage, but I am already planning to come back to this one because they made such a simple dish (omelette) so amazing that I want more! Thank you So Thai, can't wait to come back! read more

Good food, friendly staff, and fast! Convenient to get there, and the decor in the little restaurant is fun and colorful.

I lived in Khon Kaen, Thailand (Isaan region in the North East) for 3 years. 2014-2017. Since moving to Alaska, I've tried many Thai restaurants all around the state. I've always been disappointed at how Americanized the Thai food is. Then I came across this place. They have a few dishes on the menu from the Isaan region and they are truly authentic. They are not even remotely Americanized versions. Every time I make it to Anchorage, I visit this place for lunch or dinner. To the other reviewer who stated, "nowhere near as good as the best Thai we're use to eating in the LA area," you don't know what you are talking about. LA is not Thailand. Stay in California. To everyone else reading this, please visit this place and buy lots of food! They must stay open for me! I miss Thailand so much and eating here just takes me back. read more

So Thai = So Authentic. Anchorage locals are quite lucky they do not have to fly to the North-Eastern region of Thailand to enjoy these type of dishes! Thai dishes are always changing and adapting for a number of different reasons. One of the biggest factors that affects the cuisine is geography. So Thai made it feel as though we were sitting at a street vendor eating authentic Thai cuisine. While visiting Isan last year, I enjoyed dishes very spicy, salty, and flavorful. I ordered the Kuay Tiew Gai Kuay Tiew Gai during my lunch at So Thai, with a #3 Spice Rating, and did not disappoint. However, next time I will order at a #1 Rating since I had to down two Thai Teas and multiple pitchers of water to neutralize the heat on my tongue! I find out after my meal that this particular restaurant only has a 1, 2, or 3 Rating (while most Thai Restaurants go 1-5). Their Roti Waan (Fried Flatbread drizzled with Condensed Milk) was a great way to finish off this near perfect experience. Go check them out and let me know what you think! read more

Stopped in after months of saying "next time!" The space is clean but the seating was a little uncomfortable. The menu is small and easy to navigate. I went with the chicken with garlic and ginger. It was very good although there was not much chicken. The rice was very flavorful but almost too much. The proportions of protein to carbs were off. I did like the broth that was served but it was a little peppery. My boyfriend enjoyed his vermicelli pho with meat balls. He ordered it medium spicy but it came out being very spicy. We both agreed that while the food was very flavorful the restaurant itself lacked in ambiance, comfort and service. read more

I stopped in here on Christmas Eve after a hike. They were closing at 3:30 but we got there at 3:00. We ordered the fried wonton, gaeng massaman, Thai tea, and roti. Our food came out very quick and everything tasted scrumptious. It definitely is authentic Thai food. The decor and servers were so nice. Even though they were closing, they did not rush us. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some good Thai food. I only took pictures of our wonton because I scarfed everything else down and forgot to take pictures!! read more

Is there such a thing as being too authentic? If you like the weird parts of the animal... like tendons and chewy bits, you'll like So Thai. This is homestyle cooking.... not americanized Thai food, so that's pretty awesome. Unfortunately I have an aversion to weird textures, but love weird flavors, so it's a struggle for me. Flavors here are awesome. I love the simplicity of the menu. Choose your noodle, choose you meat, choose wet or dry. Awesome. I got too adventurous with the meat and ended up with meatballs and tendon that made me want to barf, but the broth was phenomenal. To echo what others have said though, the portion was too small and I left hungry, but probably partially due to the fact that I couldn't eat the rubbery meats (again my fault for ordering something I knew I shouldn't have....) I liked the lack of pretense here, but I wish the prices reflected that... hmmm. Anchorage, you perplex me muchly. Thai food lovers, you will like. Picky food eaters, do NOT go here, you will be horrified. This place is very authentic. Parking is in the rear. Service can be slow. Try the weird pink pepto bismol drink. Weird. Mesmerizing. Can't stop thinking about it. Thailand in Alaska. Cool deal. read more

I got the pad Thai and spring rolls. The shrimp spring rolls where okay, small and mostly lettuce. The pad Thai was very dry, maybe the noodles were a bit undercooked. The staff was nice and friendly! But I wouldn't go back here for pad Thai. read more

First time trying this place and it was just mediocre. The Pad Thai was a little lack luster in flavor and there wasn't much shrimp in there unfortunately. The shrimp Rangoon was just ok too. The panang was ok, nothing really stood out. I wish I could say better because the reviews are good for this place but it left me unimpressed. There are other Thai places way better than this so I probably would not go here again with all the other options. read more

This was a great find! Having recently traveled to Thailand, this place was a pleasant surprised for me. Also being from California and recently moved up to Alaska, this place is amazing! Soups: I've tried most of their noodle dishes and have all be amazing. I love their soup because it's flavorful, spicy, and tender. Can't go wrong with any of their soups. Fresh Rolls: I'm not a big fan of imitation crab, which is exactly what they use in their rolls. So I have to say that this is not my favorite dish. The only thing negative I have to say is that they usually only have one waitress/waiter out in front. Usually it's not so busy that it's not a big deal. But when it does get a little busy or when multiple parties come in at once. Then it kind of goes downhill. One time my whole party was served, and my food was left sitting on the counter for about 20 minutes because the waitress was busy taking orders. Sadly, my party finished their meals and my meal came to me cold. Overall: I would definitely recommend this place. FYI: The 3-Star soup is authentically THAI SPICY. So order at your own caution. read more

NON-VEGGIE STIR FRY VEGGIES The rest of my family enjoyed their choices from So Thai, but I was terribly disappointed in my order of Stir Fry Veggies. It had 2 pieces of broccoli, 3 of cauliflower, 4 thin slices of carrots...and the rest was cabbage. Now, while I like cabbage, I didn't expect almost 100% cabbage in Stir Fry VEGGIES! For shame, So Thai! read more

This is exactly the kind of restaurant I root for in Anchorage. We stopped by on Saturday since we were already in the area. I'd been meaning to check out So Thai for weeks and I'm glad to say I was not disappointed. At this time, it definitely feels like a family-run, local business working to get on its feet. The atmosphere/decor isn't quite there yet but So Thai's got it where it counts: food and service. We were greeted kindly when we walked in and served immediately. I couldn't begin pronounce what I ordered, nor am I particularly familiar with Thai cuisine (beyond the basics) so I decided to try something that looked good (fortunately their menu has photos of their main noodle dishes.) We also ordered the Pad Thai. Both were flavorful and despite not really liking peanuts in prepared meals, I actually really enjoyed mine. It had the perfect little cilantro kick. Looking forward to seeing this one get better over time. Their menu design is pretty slick & modern. The rest of the place will catch up, I expect, but they clearly are focused on the meal quality itself which is the best place to start. read more

Zero stars for this place. Their cleanliness standards are not good, I received a dirty cup to drink out of, there were flies in the dining room , and when we asked for an additional side sauce we were charged 2 entire dollars! Not only that, the container was half full! read more

First impression: Pretty good, but not great considering there's already so many good Thai restaurants around town. Based one this experience I don't understand the hype. I came here on a Sunday afternoon, which was surprisingly busy so I figured that was a good sign. The restaurant is clean, colorful, and bright with pleasant music playing in the background. Cheap plastic floral table covers and metal chairs but it seems to work for this place. I wanted to get green curry but apparently they were out of it/don't serve it on Sundays. Same with the roti, which was disappointing. I ordered a yellow chicken curry with a Thai iced tea. I ordered the curry medium spicy as I usually do at most Thai restaurants. The curry was barely spicy at all. It was also lacking on the potatoes, peanuts, and onions that typically accompany yellow curry. However, the texture of the curry was perfect and there were generous chunks of high-quality chicken so that helped make up for it. Prices here are below average compared to other Thai places around town. However, you get what you pay for, so the portions are smaller. I can usually split a curry dish into two meals but I was able to finish this one in a single sitting easily. Service was basically nonexistent after placing my order and getting my food. The two young girls were nice enough but they were just sitting at a table and talking when they weren't helping customers. I had to flag one of them down for the check. Overall not particularly impressed, but the dining experience was pleasant enough that I would return. Hopefully when they actually have green curry. read more

Came here for my mom's birthday and we spotted 8 flies in the eating area. Very gross for a restaurant! Food was great though. We still got takeout. Now I'm getting it again a month later and my girl got the Pad Thai and we got just the regular amount of spices and it was WAY SPICIER than it should've been. I eat habaneros while I dice them and I could hardly eat more than a few bites. She doesn't have nearly the tolerance I have. Make sure you order at a time that you can complain and get your dish served the way you want it. She couldn't even eat her dish after three bites. read more
