As an aside, I love that Thai restaurants have sugar in the little condiment caddy with the chili flakes. And here there is a happy, tiny heap of sugar next to the slightly larger piles of peanuts and chili flakes right on the plate. One more reason why Thai food is one of my favorites: sugar is an acceptable condiment. Re: the actual food: The fresh rolls have chicken and pollock-based surimi with a garlic, onion, and cilantro dipping sauce. I probably wouldn't order the fresh rolls again but it was fun to try a different take on a fresh roll. I love shrimp so I missed the typical shrimp. ((I'm basic like that.)) The green curry is delicious and usually has Thai eggplant though they were out when we were there. The shrimp pad Thai was superb and priced very reasonably at $11. I tried one dried shrimp then ate around the rest; the fresh shrimp were tasty though. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I'll be back for the best pad Thai and Thai iced tea in Anchorage! read more

So delicious, and not your ordinary Thai fare. They have the traditional apps like fresh rolls, spring rolls and satay, but they also have fried tofu, a shrimp/pork wonton that are thin and fried crispy, pork jerky, fried meatballs fried chicken wings and Roti. They have some of the usual entreés, Pad Thai, curry/coconut soups, Larb, Lad Nar, etc., but they also have a number of soups, similar to Pho, but in a variety of soup bases, all billed more as "Street Food". The complete menu is in the photos above, but the 3 white pages near the beginning, not the black ones. We had the Fresh Rolls and the Wontons (Kiew Tod). The Fresh Rolls were HUGE, more like the way I make them at home, served with an herbal dipping sauce (NOT sweet chili or peanut). It was more like what my Vietnamese sisters served when we made fresh rolls. My entreé was Kuay Tiew Num Dang: special house broth(herb) with beef ball, stewed beef, sliced beef, beef tendon and green onion, cilantro, topped with fried garlic, with your choice of thin rice noodles, egg noodles, rice vermicelli, glass noodles (bean threads), flat noodles, instant noodles (ramen maybe?) or jasmine rice. My husband had Kuay Tiew Ma Now: special house broth with ground pork, fish ball, sliced pork topped with crushed peanut, dried shrimp, green onion, cilantro and fried garlic, again with your choice of with your choice of thin rice noodles, egg noodles, rice vermicelli, glass noodles (bean threads), flat noodles, instant noodles (ramen maybe?) or jasmine rice. The broth in this one seemed more coconut based than the broth in mine. We both got flat noodles with our soups. The noodle were in the perfect proportion to the meat. Just enough for dinner, (although I saved some soup for lunch tomorrow), not so much that you can't possible eat them all in one sitting, let alone two like you get with most pho (even when I ask for half of the usual amount). Both soups were absolutely delicious! Mine was light and gingery and warming, with bean sprouts as well as everything else listed. My husband's was slightly creamy, but still light, and the dried shrimp added a pleasant, but not overpowering brininess that was very welcome. Our total bill, with one cup of hot tea and a generous tip, was around $53. One reviewer didn't know it they had drinks other than water and tea, but they do have Thai tea and coffee, Thai tea lemonade, as well as a few of Tai sodas. The server was one of the owners, a young couple that run the place apparently by themselves. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night, but we got there a little before closing. The service was perfect, but I can understand that they could be slower during a busy lunch rush. Fantastic, and we WILL be back! read more

I stopped by this place on road trip to Kenai. I was craving some good Thai food after hiking and I found this gem! Love the interior :) make me feels like I'm eating on the street of Bangkok. We order Larb (beef) to shared and it was delicious! I ordered pork noodle soup (Nam Tok) and my bf ordered chicken noodle soup. Both dishes were really tasty. Portions are great. I definitely want to come back to So Thai again if I have a chance to stop by in Anchorage on my way back to Fairbanks. Highly recommend! read more

So Thai - Pad Kra Pow - Thai Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

Dropped in for lunch and was not disappointed! Pleasant atmosphere, delicious food, delightful service and clean. My husband and I don't often say this about new restaurants we try for lunch but ... we'll be returning! Highly recommend read more

Oh my...my friend (who is from Thailand) has been telling me about this place for a few weeks now. We finally got together and went to So Thai. We started out with the fried pork jerky with sticky rice. I think that was a special item and not sure if it is part of the regular menu. I loved it and if I ate nothing else that day, I would've left satisfied. But we continued on. I had the BBQ Pork with egg noodles. I've never had this in previous Thai cuisine experiences. It was amazing. (I'm not very good on describing how things taste, you just have to try it for yourself.) My friend and I shared the hoy tod crispy pancake as well. It reminded me of a Vietnamese banh xeo. But better than any banh xeo I've found in town. This is cooked with mussels...which I guess "hoy" is the Thai word for mussels. (Getting a language experience too!) We also shared the pork laab and papaya salad. Both above average when compared to other Thai restaurants. I almost don't want to write this because I want this place for myself! Alas, that's not how a business operates. We have to make sure small businesses that are this special stay open! The service is great and you can tell the food is made with great care! Get yourselves down to So Thai and get the word out! My new favorite Thai place right in Spenard! read more

Couldn't find my update Review on this one, so we'll just start fresh. This is one of my favorite Thai places in town. And with the abundance of places in Anchorage, that is saying something. I preferred their older menu, but I can see the news ones making more sense for most folks, so consider it a good change as it certainly isn't hurting business. Last several visits I've made here are very busy, even though I tend to go "off hours". BUT, I've never had to wait for a place to sit, even at lunch. The food here is spicy. Not explode your head, but if you don't ask for something specific, it tends to come out at the hotter side of Medium - which is okay. Because everything I've tried here has had a GREAT blend of flavors, not just a meal hiding behind the heat. I love their Larb. And I've tried a variety of the noodle and soup combos. The sauces tend to be unique here, and very tasty. Service has never let me down, and that perfect mix of "I'm here to help" and "I'm going to let you eat/read in peace too". This is "Thai Street Style" and while yes, I've had some MUCH more amazing stuff in larger Urban areas, what I haven't had is the constancy that you get at So Thai. read more

Delicious Panang Curry! Service was fast and clean. Would definitely come back or order to go

We were looking for a quick lunch while working in Anchorage and chose badly. The decor was lively, but not the staff. We waited 10 minutes to order, then more than 30 for our food. Lunch entrees are in the $15 range. That's high in California, but maybe not in Alaska. That said, the curry was watery and had almost no veggies, although a good amount of tofu. My coworker liked his pad Thai though. Spring rolls were ok too. But we were late back to work and had to wolf it down or we would have been even later. We had to go to the front to get the check. Ok food, inattentive service. read more

We were so happy to find So Thai. Thai is very expensive in this town but So Thai is reasonably priced. The servers are always pleasant and helpful. We love the decor because it's cheerful and bright. It's a great place to go for a healthy and delicious meal. read more

I happened upon So Thai ordering delivery and want expecting much, maybe some typical coconut curry or something. Boy was i pleasantly surprised; the food was so wonderful! Very much authentic and a wide variety of selection. Quality ingredients and delicious flavors. Clearly care has gone into this meal. Thank you So Thai!! read more

Well, this was my first experience with So Thai. I am definitely a new fan. I ordered the A5 Fried Spring Rolls, Green Curry w/chicken (lv 3-Very hot) and a Thai Tea. The spring rolls (4 pcs) had a great flavor and were crispy. It came with a Thai sweet chili-vinegar sauce. Wow! The green fury was very tasteful but lacked some chicken, in my opinion. I like spicy food and the lv3 was perfect. A slight tingle to my lips and a runny nose were great indicators to me that I got the level right. Lastly, the Thai tea was plentiful and not too sweet. Overall, the experience was a good one. It did take 1.5hr & $5 to deliver (bummer), but my fears of it not being fresh upon delivery were thrown out when I opened everything. Very freshly cooked throughout. Thank you- read more

Same location where Cafe AK used to be. Small inside with plain decor but very clean. Friendly host/server said we could sit where we want. We ordered fried wontons (very good, I wish they had more filling though), pad Thai and my husband had a dish with steak in it (I can't remember the name). The pad Thai was good but not the best in town. My husband liked his food and I had some and it was not bad. Not tough, good flavor and good portion size. We'll be back for sure, we have to try the other things on their menu (and order those fried wontons again!). read more

The moment I opened the doors, the decor, colors, picnic chairs, posters on the wall and Thai songs playing absolutely took me back to how a street food vendor would operate in Thailand - legit Thai chef; great simple selection of soup to noodles - a place you can stroll in to have a great meal. read more

So Thai - Special menu by the Main counter - Thai Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

4.5 stars for friendly, humble, and tasty Thai food. Good reviews led me to seek So Thai out for a quick lunch stop between meetings. A warm greeting from the host (owner?) and a nice plate of drunken noodles. I was asked what level of spice I preferred and the chef delivered them spot on. It was a late lunch and I was the only in person diner, although there were many takeout orders happening throughout my time there. read more

Food was decent but not quite authentic Thai food- fresh rolls are very different (one big leaf of lettuce a tiny piece of shrimp, a tiny piece of chicken wrapped in the normal rice wrapper- where's the egg? Noodles? Cucumber? Peanut sauce?), no veggie dishes- first I've run into that at a Thai restaurant. Atmosphere was nice, bright, and clean, service was on par. I spent $28 and left satisfied but not full. There are better Thai and Vietnamese food in Anchorage. So Thai is so-so. read more

Very tasty! Got the green curry and added spice from the spice tray. Good portion size - I definitely had enough for leftovers.

Worst pad Thai in town. Mushy noodles cooked in who knows what. Menu says peanut sauce but there is no peanut sauce. I asked for a side of peanut sauce and I was told the pad Thai was cooked in soy sauce. Who does that? That's not authentic Thai. If you like pad Thai don't get it here. The fresh rolls were good but you can get those at any Thai restaurant. read more

Love their food and also friendly service. Their noodle taste perfect as is ( little spicy but yum ) Chicken wings ( Chocken Chai Yo ) is excellent!! read more

So Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant in town. They are the only restaurant in town that made the true authentic Thai food, not the American version of Thai food. I went there several times to try different dishes. Some of my favorite dishes are Pok Pok noodle, B.B.Q. Pork noodle, Ka Pao chicken with fried egg, Hoy Tod, Pad Thai, and Khao Man Gai. The price and the portion size is reasonable. Most dishes are $11.00. I observed that the restaurant are operated by two sisters. Once the younger sister take the order, she might spend time in the kitchen to help out preparing the food. After the food are served, she may not be able check on the customers after a while. This is something that they may consider improving, but I find the slight inconvenience forgivable for a small business just starting. Overall, I highly recommend So Thai to the people who love the real Thai food! read more

So Thai was SO good! The sweetheart kind lady was so upbeat and positive waiting for us to decide. We ended up with green curry w beef and soup like tom Kai but made with cream instead of coconut milk. That was different for us. We like original tom Kai better. But everything was so fresh and delicious. As good as the best Thai! Take out only. They are being very careful with Covid restrictions at this restaurant because of elders in their family. So do your part and wear a mask! If you go to Fairbanks the Thai restaurant there is a tiny bit better. The curry is thicker if you like that. Lemon grass is the name! read more

To go order- Shrimp pad Thai, fresh spring rolls and fried veg rolls. It was okay. The pad Thai noodles were all stuck together and wasn't much flavor. The spring rolls were okay... didn't have the vermicelli noodles and the sauce they came with was different. The fried veg rolls were good. Cute little place. read more

Purchased spring rolls. All the items were not properly wrapped and the lettuce tasted old. My chicken curry had no vegetables like other Thai restaurants do and my wife's chicken pad Thai was thrown away after a few bites. No flavor. Very disappointed after spending $48 tip included and having to pick up order and waiting longer than normal. Not returning. I usually wouldn't blast a small business during a pandemic but they gotta get real. read more

Been meaning to try So Thai for a while and I'm so glad I did!! We sampled several snacks. The fried tofu is good (not as good as PCC's in West Seattle), Fried Wontons are tasty, and Fresh Spring Rolls great. Love the variety of dipping sauces. My shrimp Pad Thai was delicious, and I read one of the reviews that So Thai's Pad Thai is authentic, and I'm not disappointed. My husband had the Penang Curry with extra chicken and liked it. Next time instead of take out we will go in for a sit down meal, although I was pleased that So Thai's takeout containers are mostly paper so not as bad as the styrofoam that will live forever in the landfill. read more

$30 delivery minimum plus additional $3 delivery fee. Didn't see that posted on their website or anywhere on their menus so just letting y'all know. The food is some of the better Thai food in Anchorage. We had the pad Thai, fresh spring rolls and shrimp wontons. Everything was great, spring rolls just had one small shrimp a piece but no complaints about flavor. Employees were friendly and courteous, they offered recommendations and suggestions based on what they liked. Have ordered a few times but it may be more economical to dine in for solo or smaller groups. read more

Got the Fresh Spring Rolls the were the worst! Full of lettuce not noddles or taste! Very disappointing

This place was incredible. We got the pork larb and the shrimp Num Kon. We scraped our plates clean. Healthy portions and fantastic service.

Love their food and love that they're a family run business. For sure will be coming back many times!!

So good!! We really enjoyed our lunch here. We had spring rolls-yum!! Crispy and cut in half. Delicious. Husband had Kee Mao--wow! This was really great flavor. I had pad Thai. Very good too. We were happy with everything-friendly people, delightful meal. Loved it!! Can't wait to come back. read more

The Khao Soi was so amazing ! I felt like I was back in Chiang Mai.. thank you for transporting me there. I will be back !

I love spicy hot but their spicy hot was so extreme I couldn't even consume my Tom yum. There wasn't enough meat in my soup. The papaya salad was ok. The curry was ordinary. I wouldn't come back to this place but it was worth a try. I did like the fresh rolls that didn't have the noodles. read more

Super cute little place. Seriously, a hidden gem! It was the best pad Thai I've ever had, not dry at all and everything was fresh and delicious. My daughters always get curry and they know the flavor that they like and this did not have it however. It's not your typical Thai curry dish...it's got a lot more to it like peanuts, or some kind of nuts and a lot of potatoes. But I would definitely go back. I bet everything else on the menu is just as delicious as the pad Thai! read more
