Let me start off by saying this is a small place, minimal sitting. From what I saw as I dined in is that they keep up with the business. They were able to sit the people coming in and filled to go orders constantly. It was not a moment that went by, that no one walked through the door. How could I miss this spot for 3 years? There was one server, but she served everyone with a smile on her face. My daughter and I enjoyed the ambiance, presentation, and the food was delicious! I don't know what type of dipping sauce came with the fresh rolls, but never had at any other Thai restaurants. It was nice and light, tasted like basil with a hint of spice. One of the best meals we've had in a long time! We get Thai food everywhere we travel so we've basically eaten Thai food from coast-to-coast. This is better than most places we've eaten. The food is spicy, as it should be. We thought a three on their spice level from 1-5 would be medium. But it was properly hot and delicious! Get the papaya salad, it's refreshing with its sour, sweet, and spicy combination that defines Thai cuisine. We also got the pad see ew with shrimp. Balanced and delicious. And the gra pow fried rice with chicken, I could eat that all by myself. I mean, if you don't like basil, are you even Asian? My mouth was burning but burning happy. Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted by Thea. She seated me then and brought a menu. This was my first visit and Thea helped me pick out a couple fantastic dishes. It never fails though as halfway through one dish I remember to take pictures. The restaurant consists of a clean small seating area with a relaxing feel, friendly staff, and great food. Definitely a hole in the wall that's a must. -Seating hostess was great, very polite. There was not a table ready so she very quickly cleaned one for us. There is only a handful of tables available. -Server was same person, it is not her fault they were out of all cold black and green tea. But why not go get instant so you have a substitute? When she took our order she also did not ask a spice level. Luckily that meant no spice. The food at Royal Thai is absolutely amazing! Starters like fresh rolls, satay, and gyoza are simple and full of flavor. You can't go wrong, every dish on the menu is great! Our favorites include Pad Krapao, Fried Sheet Noodles, Stir Fried Garlic (w/ your choice of protein), and all the curry dishes are delicious. If you're looking for an explosion of flavor, the Chef's Special Kao Nah Goong is a must. And the best kept special is Thea!! I've lived in Anchorage my whole life and eaten at just about every Thai place in town: this place has THE BEST fresh rolls, fried rice, and Thai Iced Teas over any other Thai restaurant in Anchorage! Their fresh rolls are loaded with fresh vegetables and they typically contain fresh mint as well! I can tell that they use quality ingredients and they don't include any of those filler rice noodles (which I have never cared for personally). My only minor complaint is that you only get 3 total but that is likely due to the higher cost of quality ingredients and no cheap fillers. The fresh rolls do typically come with some traditional Thai sauces that are not my fav so I always substitute the sauces for sweet chilli sauce instead. I love that they also are able to substitute coconut milk in their Thai Iced Teas and it tastes very creamy and fresh! Their fried rice (while a bit pricey) tastes like it was freshly made and is always very flavorful! I get the shrimp fried rice and the shrimp it contains are quite large instead of the usual mini-shrimp I have seen at most other restaurants. I also typically order their crispy tofu appetizer and love how perfectly crisp they come out on all sides! Their restaurant is very small so wouldn't be suitable for dine-in if you have a larger group but I've always gotten take-out and my food is usually done very quickly (aside from the odd occasion when they are very busy, like some weekend evenings). read more

I just picked up my order and spent $21 on a bowl of Thai noodles with pork soup. The soup was cold, the noodles were put in a cup and ended up as a large solid ball of starch. The pork was was so tough, I couldn't swallow it down. The soup was totally inedible, even after reheating it. Now that I am home for the evening, I'm not driving 20 min to go and get a refund. We were kinda craving some Asian food after being on vacation in Alaska for 9 days. We saw various Thai, Sushi, and Vietnamese restaurants around but this one caught my eye on Yelp so we decided to give it a try. Overall we were very satisfied with our dishes with regards to taste. I ordered the Pad Gra Pow and they unfortunately ran out of basil! I agreed to having it without basil but you can imagine that it didn't taste as it should have. It's fried tofu, spinach and veggies, covered in peanut sauce. Friend's Gang Kua is pineapple curry and smelled delicious. I want to try that next. Menu is extensive and features classic Thai favorites as well as more authentic dishes. Service was very friendly. I got the green curry, as hot as they could make it ("hellfire"). This was my first time trying this place. Like a lot of good restaurants, it's in an an unassuming strip mall. It's small, not a lot of tables but I ran in quickly for take out. I ordered a red beef curry with Hellfire level of spicy. The red curry was excellent! While it did get my sinuses to open up a little bit, it definitely was not the native Thai spicy I'm used to. I like to have my mouth in an O shape desperately sucking air in through hoping that will cool my tongue in some way..it never does. Yes, that kind of spicy. On the spice level ranging from 1-5 we asked for 3 which is supposed to be moderately spicy.
