Very good! In the midst of eating I was very pleased. I tried to save my husband some, but it didn't work out very well, so I ordered something else to go before I was even done. Meh. A friend, craving Thai food thought of this place, having good memories of meals with family in past years. I like to support small family-run joints, but this place didn't do it for me. I didn't want to hurt my friend's feelings so I didn't criticize the dishes we ordered. I found the food to not be what I would think of as "typical" Thai restaurant cooking or cuisine. It was more like homecooking that was not notable. Maybe it was because of the menu items we ordered, which I didn't care to remember. Sorry, I can't give them a better review. read more

My first visit. Just was in the neighborhood and wanted to try it. I got the Massaman Chicken Curry. It was very good and the portion was generous. The rest of the experience was very basic/minimalist. So, you can read my previous bad experience below. I know my husband never wants to go there again, but I was curious about the food as it's won some local awards. So, when I was doing laundry with my sister and my husband was home, I suggested we go get some take out while waiting for our clothes to dry. At every other restaurant I've been to, even very busy ones, when you order for take out, they make your food really quickly. Not at Thai Kitchen. We waited for half an hour, just sitting there. If I wanted to wait half an hour for food, I would have gotten a table and sat down!!! And they had the door open (in October!) and it was FREEZING!!! So, I was hungry and cold. Not a happy camper. The food was pretty good, not OMG good, and definitely not good enough to keep us coming back after 2 bad experiences out of 2!!!! read more

I haven't been here in years and years, and I figured I was due back for a visit. I came around 6pm, and it was pretty quiet, so we got a table immediately. Their menu is pretty extensive, and they had a ton of vegetarian options, which is always good to me. A couple of them had oyster sauce, so I asked one of the guys working if that meant chicken/fish/oyster broths/sauces were used in the rest, and he assured me they weren't (which is nice, because some places think vegetarian means fish and poultry). I love how it's family-owned and operated. The little girl that was helping out was adorable and I hope she gets some of the tips. I ordered spicy tofu, and disappointingly, it wasn't very spicy at all. It had fresh, thick slices of mild jalapeno, but I was expecting something that was full of chili. It was still good, though I would have actually liked a kick of heat (I always wonder if places make things less spicy for wimpy white folk, haha). It was also really oily -- I could only eat about half and gave my friend my leftovers to take home, because I knew I wouldn't finish it. Bummed, because the veg were so fresh and delicious and the tofu was perfectly fried, but there was just this thick sheen of grease that clung to everything and it really upset my insides. My friend ordered spicy noodles with chicken, and she loved hers. I was envious; the thick, dark red sauce looked spicy enough to make my eyes water. I also wish there was a little condiment tray at the table, besides just a soy sauce bottle. Maybe having some dried spices, like garlic and chili, would have been nice to have available, and even some of the infamous rooster sauce. Looking at their menu online, they have a rotating "quick lunch" menu that seems to change its offerings daily, with many options available. I think I'll have to come back and try that. I'm sure I'll be coming back again soon to try something new, and hopefully, it will encourage me to raise my rating. I'll probably avoid stuff that is made with a sauce, and opt for going for a curry or something that is made steamed, rather than pan-fried in lots of oil. read more

I'm pretty bummed I have to write this but I wanted to share my lackluster experience here at TK. Let me start off by saying I used to love it here. My mom would take me here after she got off work at providence and it was a nice comfort food spot when I was younger. Today I stopped in for the lunch special. $11- seemed fair. I asked for the pad Thai- but was told it already had peanuts in it. A lot of places either put it on the side or don't add it in till later. This should be a thing for a lot of people as people with allergies want to enjoy food too. I opened the box I was given and saw everything had barely been filled. What's worse was the food was bland. I had the broccoli beef, yellow curry, and Thai basil chicken. The broccoli beef was not seasoned at all. The yellow curry was watery and not very curry like. And the Thai basil chicken literally was just chunks of old wet basil with poor cuts of chicken. What happened guys? I'll come back once things are fixed. But for now, you've lost my business. read more

I go here on occasion with a friend who likes one of the soups. It is OK not great. I don't know if I would know good or authentic Thai food. I ordered the fresh rolls and they were good. My friend ordered fresh rolls and one of the "Tom" soups. This was the same soup she always orders and it was much spicier than usual. She didn't mind the spiciness but how odd to drastically change the spiciness of the soup; maybe they gave her the wrong soup??? Service was just OK. I ate facing a dirty mop. It was propped in a corner with the mop part up and facing out. Nice view to look at during the entire meal. Never will be my choice but if friend wants to go back I am sure I will wimp out and say, "sure let's go." PS: had to edit to add that I love how they serve the water in that aluminum type pitcher. I hate how they don't bring a glass for my Diet Coke. read more

Not a fan of this place at all! Ordered the basil chicken, chicken was flavorless, tasted liked boiled chicken. The garlic chicken also tasted the same, boiled chicken with toasted garlic on top. The curry chicken had very little curry flavoring. Don't waste your money. I go to Thai Kitchen at least once a week, either take out or dine in. It's not fine dining, but its very convenient. Yes, sometimes the wait is a bit long on busy days and the wait staff can be a bit standoffish, but since I only live five minutes away, its way worth it. It's family run, and like all families, they probably have their good days and bad days. The decorations are bizarre and cool, the engraved nickel cups make you think twice, the childrem are either playing street fighter behind the front desk or taking orders , and there are free blow pops when you check out. For atmosphere, its certianly home style and unique. The menu is huge: so many vegetarian options. Peanut Sauce is pretty good, curries are great, pad see ewe is pretty good but not the best, and I avoid the rice noodle dishes because they do appear to be ramen noodles. My favorite dishes are tofu rolls, eggplant special tofu, any of the curries, Popeye tofu (their version of swimming rama) and tom ka tofu. My wife always gets the pad thai which is ok but can sometimes be very oily. The new dish "peanut noodles" is pretty good. Lastly, I love going to this place because I can spend $10 bucks and come away stuffed and with leftovers for at least one other meal. read more

Good Thai food. Very inexpensive. Great for pick-up. Being a long time regular to TK, I would recommend take-out unless you are college-aged or younger. Little has changed since TK opened. The decor is almost the same since TK's beginnings. But most importantly however, the food is just as good with almost the same prices (~$7-$9 an entree). One minus is there is no beer/wine. Straight out of the suburbs quality thai food . . . I hate to be a critic, but there was flavor lacking, too many fried options and the lack of substantial, diverse vegetables in the offerings left me no choice but to dump Siracha on everything. We ordered curried pork w/ vegetables, tofu w/ spinach and vegetables and a "sampler platter" of appetizers to go. Everything on the sampler platter was fried but the slightly limp spring rolls. The morsels of pork in the curry dish were few and far between. The "vegetables" on the tofu dish included cabbage, a couple mushrooms and some spinach. Our to-go order took almost an hour. Suffice to say, I hope to find another thai joint to satisfy the random urge. Otherwise, I may end up having to wait until work trips to Seattle or San Francisco. read more

This used to be one of my go-to places for delicious fresh Thai food. They have been open for many years but recently their service and quality of food have dropped. On both if my recent visits there was only ONE young waitress for everybody dining in and one young man organizing to-go orders. I got the tom yum and it was not good, no lemongrass or lime flavor and much more broth than meat & veggies than I have ever had there previously. I am a very patient customer-especially when I know a place is busy, so didn't make any fuss and am rarely in a rush. I am also a generous tipper. I believe this is a family owned/run restaurant. I support that, however to have two visits in a row and there was only the one server, it tells me one thing: They really need to get this young lady some help!!! For me, it's not just the food I go for. Good customer service, good management and staff support create an environment that invites me back. However, after my last visits I think it will be a long time before I go back again. I hope things improve. read more

Love my Chicken Pad Thai. I ordered my pad thai for take out for the very first time (last summer). When I went inside to pick it up, the restaurant's atmosphere was kindof..awkward. It didn't really feel like a restaurant with the carpeted floors.. Kindof dark, gloomy.. and they only had windows by the entrance since it is located in a strip mall. BUT! the food was really good. The noodles were moist and full of flava flaveeeee. They gave a nice heifty portion and I definitely saved the other half for later... yum! read more

It's a quaint little place; a nice hole in the wall. The Pad Thai is excellent and the crispy tofu with peanut dipping sauce is delicious. The hot sour soup was good, but vastly different than anything I've ever had before. I liked the large chunks of tofu in it. The staff is helpful and friendly. The interior is a bit shabby, but is no different than what you'd find in any local mom and pop place. read more

This place is great. The food is delicious and flavorful. The decor might be tacky and the service might be a bit slow at times, but who cares when the food is this delicious. My parents have been eating here about once a week forever and my dad decided to have his 60th birthday here a few years ago. As a gift to my dad, the owners refused to let him pay. I'm pretty much aligned with someone else's(Bradley J.) review. Hit or miss - I've eaten here a 4 times and have had some awesome duck but recently moved on to other dishes and quite frankly I find them mediocre. I'm trying to reduce intake so most recently went for the Seven Wonder veggie dish and added some tofu to it, which was stupid because they have veggie dishes with tofu and no extra charge (I was charged an extra $1). But I wanted a good spicy dish, no coconut and no noodle. To spice it up they added jalapenos. Why the heck jalapenos is beyond me, I prefer the little thai chilis. I asked for 5 star (hottest) and it was hardly that. Live and learn. The rice was a bit pasty, and bland (def not jasmine I'm used to if it was that). Not sure if there is a brown rice option will have to check next time. The staff are farily friendly. I'm hesitant to eat here again, but as I mentioned the duck I had in the past was good, no skimping on the duck part, just a tad spendy for lunch ($14). But its in a good location for me and for other friends who like to go to lunch so I'm sure I'll try some other dishes. One of my friends get the garlic chicken and likes that dish. Mine and my families favorite restaurant in Anchorage!! Been going here since i was a kid and it was more a grocery store then a restaurant. Great flavors especially the Tom Khar Gai and special eggplant Tofu. Popeye chicken thai rolls etc All family run as well, very nice people. Very reasonably priced and you wont find more exciting flavors at the most expensive restaurants in town. read more

8/6/18--The best place in town to eat! They have mild to spicy and all delicious choices for $12-13 dollars which is a great price for dinner or lunch! I broke a few of my rules trying out Thai Kitchen. One of the broken rules was listening to someone I don't know and ignoring the yelp score, the other is eating at a Thai restaurant with a buffet. Called in my beef pad thai order, was told 30 minutes. I arrived 35 minutes after I placed the order and it took another five minutes for them to bring it out... and it's pork. Whatever, I'm not waiting for them to remake it. So I take my pork back to the installation, and discover that it's a medium sized portion of pad thai and a small portion of white rice. Kinda weird. I ordered it at maximum spiciness. I guess Alaska doesn't have a lot of spice, because this would be considered mild at most Thai restaurants I've been to. The food is ok, but boring. The restaurant is ether way understaffed, or staffed with people who have no idea how to organize or manage time. The search for a local Thai place continues. read more

One of my to-go places when I'm craving for Thai Food. The delicious food never fails to amaze me and the Yellow Curry...phenomenal! When you walk in, the servers will greet you with their warm and friendly smile. Although the service is not fastest that I've experienced. The environment is calm and clean. Gee where do I start! It's actually a half a star as th pad Thai was tasty! Should have read reviews first before going but a friend said they had drunken noodles (spicy noodle or some weird name) and it was like ordering soup! Pad thai while tasty was served in a portion for a 12 year old! And the fried rice was horrible with chunks of everything in it including the used old rice! Service does suck just like everyone else says and the dude collecting the cash couldn't give a r-ts a-s about anything you say as he just brushed me off when I told him I ordered a noodle dish not a soup dish( you don't eat drink Le noodles w a spoon)! Lastly, get rid of those old used metal recycled from WWll drinking cups n water jug cause even the drinking water sucked as it tasted like old metal!! Never again read more

This restaurant easily would have been rated 5 stars if the service was better. What saves me from rating this any lower than four stars was the food. The dish that absolutely stood out to me was their yellow curry. This curry is the best curry I've had in my entire life. I'm not saying this lightly either. The sauce was so rich, the potatoes were soft, and the chicken was tender. It was literally like each bite melted in my mouth. Completely outstanding. Regards to the chef. Hit or miss at Thai Kitchen. I've eaten here a couple times and have had some awesome duck and some mediocre dishes that were supposed to be their "really popular" entrees. The staff is pretty friendly and I haven't ever had any timing issues that some of the other reviewers have. Generally, the food comes up fast on take out or dining in. I'll definitely eat here again, but I will continue to search for something on their menu that comes up deliciously consistent. read more

Thai Kitchen is best a to-go style restaurant. The food is great for the price and pick up is easy there. Be warned that eating there is not fancy at all. The atmosphere is non-existent and the service is just as bad. With that being said, take it to go and you'll be okay. My biggest complaint is the amount of Styrofoam and plastic they give you with every to-go order. I would give them 4 stars if they were more conscious of their non-recyclable waste. read more

I had the opposite experience of most people here it seems. The service is decent but the food, so-so. I know this place get high marks from The Press and ADN but I'm consistently disappointed by the food. Specifically the insistence of putting too much sugar and salt in every dish. From the soup to the curry its always the same here. The flavors underneath seem good and fresh but they are muted by the salty sweet onslaught on top. This seems to be a typical phenomenon in NW Thai food, the misconception that "farang" like it this way. Thai House on Muldoon is a better local option if you want something closer to the real thing. read more
