Great food. Loved the spring roles and the variety of authentic food. We ordered take out and noticed them moving a lot of stuff into the restaurant. It almost appeared as if it were a karaoke or something there with the stage, microphones, and speakers. It was kind of unexpected and funny. The food is good and I would go back. A good place to try out Vietnamese food if you have never tried it out before. During this visit, I didn't try the pho but my friends who came with say it was some of the best they had. I ordered grilled porkchops with rice. it came with a fried egg and veggies, which consisted of some sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, and some julienne carrots. It came with this delicious dipping sauce which i really enjoyed and a small soup that I also enjoyed as well. My friends kids got the fried chicken wings (afterall they're just kids and who could really blame them), honestly the chicken tasted alright, nothing to write home about, other vietnamese restaurants will probably have better fried chicken wings, but we're not here for the chicken wings. So all in all, I gotta say I really did enjoy this place. read more

The best Pho in MKE. I always leave wishing my stomach was bigger. They give you generous portions at a great price. I loove their food. Just thinking about their pho broth makes my mouth water. I have even seen owners of other places grabbing a bite here. I wish they had a location on the North side, but it is worth the trip. Wanted to go to Phan's but they were mysteriously closed on a Tuesday for no electricity even though there was electricity in the building. Good food. Good prices. 3.50 import beers (Tiger for example) and 2.50 macros (Miller Lite and Bud Lite). Service was okay. I'm guessing it's a family joint because the service seemed a lot disinterested and a little rushed. Still, no major complaints. We ordered a crawfish boil (9.50$ for a pound). It's expensive, sure, but we moved here from Louisiana and so a crawfish boil is a crawfish boil. They were late season crawfish, however, which meant their shells were extremely tough and they were slightly overcooked to the point of being chewy. I ordered the "Crab Noodles" which were rice noodles in pork broth with chicken and tofu. Not sure where crab came into play, but it was delish nonetheless. It had black tofu as well as white and that's a treat. Add the fish paste and some Siracha and you've got yourself a two day meal (I brought half home because I was full and it was that tasty). My husband ordered the pork and egg roll vermicelli dinner. It was also very delicious. They give you plenty of add-ins, just don't expect super attentive wait staff. The pad thai is delicious.... yes, I understand that that is a Thai dish, and this is a Vietnamese restaurant, but I will always give credit, where (and when) credit is due. The servings are large (family style)- keep that in mind, plan on sharing ( or just come really hungry....if you don't like to share. ) They do provide a ladle to share the pho... The price?... just right! (Except for the coffee, thought that was a bit overpriced for the size.) They're also very (too?) generous with the condensed milk, do think twice about ordering that if you're not looking for a sugar rush. It is a solid 3 stars, not as good as Pho Hai Tuyet (the Pho broth is just intense, very savory and slightly spicy and so far out of 4 Viet restaurants I have tried the Pho at, Pho Hai is the pinnacle). My hubs said his dish was better (more flavorable grilled pork and larger portion) than Pho Hai. We will definitely be back. Not all pho is created equal and this is our go to pho spot. I'm not ashamed to admit that my family and I eat here a couple times a month :) We always get the same things: P8 (chicken pho), P12 (shrimp pho), shrimp fresh spring rolls as the appetizer (minus the pressed pork slice, blech) and we always end our meal with an avocado smoothie to share. Their pho broth is so flavorful and complex; soul warming comes to mind, it's really that good. I can't say that about all pho offerings in Milwaukee but this place really delivers the broth...which, for me, is key. The soup is served with the typical veg plate of bean sprouts, limes, jalapeños, and lots of fresh Thai basil. My ratio is: two jalapeños, one lime wedge, a handful of sprouts and all the basil (the basil is my favorite part). I also dip my shrimp in a mixture of plum sauce and chili oil that are available at each table..I'm drooling just thinking about it :) The restaurant is cafeteria style but it's clean and the service is pretty decent. You don't have to believe me about how good the pho is here, just ask the many native Asian folks that eat here everyday! read more

Yeah, it's an option. I've never been disappointed by the food here, but never blown away. The Phò is phine, the Bahn Mi is okay by me. It's "comfort food" in the best sense. What's not comforting are the prices. I recently had lunch here with my brother. One order of Shrimp spring rolls, two noodles dishes and two cokes: $34.00. Yikes! We each laid down a Jackson, for lunch! That took the comfort right out of it. They could do a little bit to spice up the place. Their decor is a bit too much "mid century brutal-American diner for me. It's clean, but cold. Serviceable, but adds nothing to the experience. Freaky Fast (consider defending your title, Jimmy John's), this place gets your orders right away, and then moments later, your food comes! At our most recent visit, we got a large, which was HUGE, house special pho and a bbq pork Bhan Mi. The pho was delicious, plenty of beef slices and brisket, comes with the standard boat of bean sprouts, basil, and lime on the side. My favorite that night, however, was the Bhan Mi. There was so much going right for the sandwich, the bread was toasted perfectly flaky on the outside and right as I bit into it, the bread gave way to reveal the most pleasant bread consistency. The flavors were a harmonious medley, chewy savory bbq pork, crunchy pickled radish & carrots, and creamy sweet mayonnaise bundled up in that perfectly toasted french baguette. I've been here several times and not written a peep about it for some reason. I'm not a crazy pho-phile or anything, but I eat it often, here and elsewhere, and usually while traveling to major city spots that have reputable places. That said, I really enjoy what they do here. I'd say this is easily one of my top two in Milwaukee. The broth is always tasty, the greens are always fresh, and I've never had gristly meat in my pho. Service is casual and friendly, and I've never felt as if anything took long to come to the table. I think that checks all food related boxes. What made it stand out, however, was my visit tonight. I don't normally spend a lot of time in military uniform when I'm out as I don't like attention about it. Tonight, I was shopping on my way home and stopped for dinner. When I walked in, I was saluted by the older gentleman who walks with a limp and we got into conversation. He earned his limp by way of shrapnel when he served as an officer in the South Vietnamese army during the war against what he laughingly referred to as the "North Vietnam Commies." We had an enjoyable chat and I have a lot of newfound respect for him and his family. I'll absolutely make it a point to come here every time I'm at Pacific for shopping. read more

I'm from Milwaukee, but have been living in New Orleans for a while now, and they have a huge Vietnamese population. Anyway, I was back here for the holidays and craving some pho and banh mi's. The pho at Pho Viet was fine. The meat and the "salad" were tasty, but the broth was a little bland. The grilled pork banh mi, however, was AMAZING! And only $3.50. The pork was incredibly flavorful, sandwiched between a crispy, buttery bun, and nicely complimented by cilantro, carrots, cucumbers, and jalapenos. I also had a papaya salad with beef jerky and shrimp, which was pretty tasty and a good serving of bun, the vermicelli noodle bowl (btw, I've been here 3 times during my visit--I didn't eat all this at one time). The service was attentive every time I've been there, and food was prompt. All in all, there's a lot of good food here, and the prices are great. Hrm. I'm relatively new to the world of pho. That being said, while I admit I'm not an expert, I do know when something is balanced or flavorful or lacking or a bit pricey for the offering. Enter Pho Viet. Right next door to Pacific Produce, the mister and I hit up this spot after an overwhelming visit to the mega-super-awesome Asian-grocery mart. Breakdown? Ambiance = two T.V.s on, two different channels, both blaring. I felt like I was going crazy, as we were seated right between the two. In the grand spectrum of things I can't stand, having two competing channels on (two T.V.s, the T.V. and the radio, etc.) ranks pretty high up on my list. Service = friendly, honest, yet a bit distant Bubble Tea = the best I've had yet in MKE (I know that's not saying much, I've only had it two places). Food = dang. The pho was pretty disappointing. I understand the idea of adding basil and jalapenos as *you* see fit, but this stuff was just flavorless. Considering how much flavor my meatballs should have had, it was still super bland. My mister had the house special (complete with beef and tripe, etc.), and he had the exact same problem. I understand starting with something that's going to appeal to everyone... that way *you* can add as much sambal or soy or whatever to *your* liking. The food is great here but in terms of service, it's poor. Every time I eat here I never get quality service. When I step into the restaurant, the waiters just stare and don't even bother to sit you down, once you sit they just hand you the menu and leave. An okay-ish Vietnamese place attached to Pacific Produce. The service left a little bit to be desired--I never felt exactly welcome between the worker mopping directly next to my table and the other worker staring at my fiancée and I from across the room. It was starting to get late and things were dying down, but it was probably too early to shut down the kitchen, so I suppose what else are they supposed to do? Meh. The place did seem a bit dingy. I'm pretty forgiving on this point usually, because I figure there's no way it could be worse than my own kitchen, but if I can see the accumulated dirt in the corner, that's pushing it. On the point of ambiance, Rachel F's complaint about the dueling televisions still stood as of the last time I was in. The food was alright. I've experienced worse in Milwaukee, but there are plenty of options for better Vietnamese/Thai in Milwaukee. NOOB. Is the only word i can think of to describe this place. For those ages 30+ "noob" is interchangeable with "newbie." They just don't seem to have it all down yet. The service was in par to training mode. Come on...she didn't even know the items on the menu and was VERY confused that I wanted my viet iced coffee in a "to go" container instead of a glass. The spring rolls were large and tasted fresh but I'm not sure when the last time I paid over $6 for spring rolls was... The pho wasn't even good (way too much cinnamon and/or star anise but super bland at the same time) and it was the most expensive pho I've ever eaten in my life. Not a bad bowl of pho, and the other offerings are quite good as well. Here's the breakdown: The Good - The pho is tasty and there is a LOT of it. The restaurant seems clean and is well lit. The other menu items are worth trying and I have not been disappointed with any of my choices there. The avocado bubble tea is amazing. Seriously, there is a whole avocado in the cup and it is my favorite flavor. For crying out loud! Just quit being a wuss and try one! The Bad - The service is pretty laid back, and if you're in a hurry, then just don't go. It's not terrible, just not quick. There are a few televisions, however they have never been loud when I have been there and I never found them distracting. The Ugly - If you're a picky eater then... well why the hell are you even here? Seriously, if you get the house special you're looking at beef tendons (read delicious bits of beef jello) and tripe (leaf tripe, not mountain chain) and it's kind of the texture of squid... so if you have a dinner companion with a weak stomach, then just don;t tell them what it is. Interesting variance in reviews here, I'm guessing things are inconsistent here. I've been here a couple of times, because I don't work far from here and this is your best choice for lunch near Oak Creek. It's also right next to the biggest Southeast Asian grocery selection on the South Side. I've always found the pho to be good, and their other Vietnamese selections to be better than average. I've only had a Southeast Asian waiter once, the rest of the time service has been Mexican-American, which has meant that I've known more about the menu than the servers. That's fine, I know what I want. The decor won't win any beauty contests, but it's clean. For some reason, maybe they get a lot of hard-of-hearing customers, they like to keep their television on maximum volume, but they will turn them down if you ask (and I do). I collect wax tadpoles (when Coca Cola wanted to market their product in China, they mistransliterated to "Kako Kalo," which read as "bite the wax tadpole" in Han characters) and I got winners on this menu, like "grounded shrimp." You really don't want success to go their little crustacean heads do you now? read more

I stumbled upon this place while getting my car repaired, and thought I'd give it a try. So glad I did! I've had a lot of Vietnamese food all over the country, and this is hands down my new favorite! I got a dish described as steamed chicken with cabbage, mint, and lime, but what I got was a huge pile of all those things plus peanuts and carrots in a light, fresh, perfectly spicy sauce. Pho is really good, they use fresh fruits in their bubble tea! Mango & lycée is my faves. Is very clean! Alot of tvs on each corner! but not noisy at all. So sure to get the fried squid and cat fish clay pot! And the grilled pork bahn mi/ sandwiches is one of my must orders from here! It is so reasonable priced compared to other viet or pho places, so that's a plus! :) I used to order about 20 of them for my co workers when I used to work over by that area! Terrible. Walked in and walked right back out. The silverware were dirty as hell! Menus felt like they were caked with grime. We were on our way to Pacific Produce and saw this place right next door and we were hungry so we decided to give it a try. Sadly, we were really disappointed with their pho (0 star). Definitely not the pho that I remember eating elsewhere. The soup was flavorless and the noodles were kind of soggy. All I can say is that it was a disaster! My gal Beth and I ventured down to the South Side last week to investigate the opening of a purported giant Asian grocery store, Pacific Produce, housed in an old Kohl's Food Store. We were kind of thinking there was going to be eating places inside, like a food court (oh, dreams), but the snacky hot food area wasn't going to suit our hungover hunger. Next door was Pho Viet, a very clean soup and noodle joint that looked brand-new. Service was a little weird...the young 20-something kid must have been a son or relative, and he didn't really want to be there. But he did make us some really great blended drinks --- Beth's strawberry shake was sweet and yogurty, and my avocado shake with black tapioca pearls was a creamy, chewy and soothing foil to our spicy food. The banh mi were okay. The bread seemed a little heavy, but the jalapeno slices were extremely spicy. I might be a dumb American, but I also wanted a little more sauciness, like more mayo or fish sauce. Beth's pho was nice, but with skinner noodles than most places. And the plate of fresh additions that usually accompany such a soup went missing (basil, limes, mung bean sprouts, etc.). We already had a bunch a food on the table so we didn't even notice til after we left. I would like to stand up and give the papaya salad a standing ovation. Bits of savory dried beef, halved super-fresh shrimp and freshly crushed and roasted peanuts tied the sourness and spicy red pepper of the salad into a very awesome package. The C33 Beef tasted good, but definitely not worth feeling sick for 3days over... Btw, it's not a reaction to the spices, I'm half Asian and used to all of them so it must be cleanliness... The floors were kinda greasy and sticky, I guess that should've been a sign. Maybe they didn't want to be there on a Sunday but the staff was being aloof as well and took ages to come and serve us. We told them we were in a hurry because we needed to catch a flight. They were quick in getting out the food but they were not very attentive. As an appetizer we ordered the vegetarian spring rolls, the potion was huge and it was good. I ordered the vegetarian dish over noodles. It was also huge and good. I was very bummed that this was the only vegetarian dish on the menu. I had hoped for vegetable pho but they didn't offer it. My mom ordered the Chicken Pho, the pho had very little flavor. She attempted adding some of the Hoisan, salt, pepper, and spices but it was not good. She said that she did not like it. They offered to make something else saying she had to catch a flight and would just get something at the airport. We got the check and was still charged for the pho, she went to the counter and the owner said that she had to pay for it. She said that she's never heard of a place still charging for a dish that wasn't enjoyed. At the end the owner took the pho off but said that the next time she comes here, she has to enjoy the food she's ordered. She responded "don't worry we will never be back" read more

Service could be better, water could be refilled more quickly, but I would 100% come back for B37 (crispy flat glass noodles with beef). Entrees are a little bit expensive but the servings are large, so overall decent value. I would recommend the avocado smoothie with boba - it was thick, sweet, milky and bobas were the right texture. I've tried the pho previously and was not the biggest fan of their soup as it was more sweet than savory. Also note that their water comes infused with lime flavor. I tried their seafood pho - shrimp and fish. It was excellent. The aroma in the restaurant was not too bad - meaning - no rancid smell which comes from overheating and reusing oil, repeatedly. When you enter a chinese restaurant and if it smells like an old chinese restaurant, that most likely means that they are not using fresh oil as much as they should. To that extent, this Pho Viet seems fine. I shall try other dishes in future and review here. read more

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. I've been here twice now and both times the service was excellent and friendly and the food was delicious. I haven't had the Pho. I had the vermicelli noodle bowls both times and I would definitely go back to have it again! Love this place. Love that it's in my neighborhood and love that it is family owned. It's also incredibly clean. Yes there are two T.V.'s but I didn't think they were very loud and I have come to expect T.V.'s if I want authentic Vietnamese food-I was actually surprised they were on english speaking channels.
