The food was decent for the area but the service is awful. While we were waiting for the servers to take our order a table of four next to us walked out because they hadn't been served either. If we had been waiting twenty minutes they had been waiting much longer. The place was not even busy it was around 4pm when business is usually slow. The staff didn't even notice the family leaving until they saw the empty table. When my mom went to ask a server if they could take our order the server said yes then as she turned her back another said you can leave if you don't like it. She confronted him and he of course denied it all. We stayed bc we were hungry and so we ordered. After ordering the table next to us had a poor experience as well. We juts heard the customer say "just put the food down and bring my bill bc I want to get the hell out of here. This is just awful service." After those pissed off customers left in a fluster our food was brought over, well all but one plate. I had to ask three different servers for the plate. Finally one server comes to confirm the missed order and then says the order had been forgotten bc it was too demanding. We ordered pad thai with no meat or tofu - what's confusing about that? Its just noodles!!! Either way the server should have never said it was our orders fault but rather said I'm sorry and we will bring it out. It was their fault bc the cook and server forget the order. I saw the server wrote down the order so it was the kitchens fault for not seeing it and the severs fault for not realizing a plate was missing. Coming from a background in the restaurant business, this place has no structure in terms of work flow and is extremely disorganized. The servers could be more professional and pleasant in their demeanor. Small businesses should be extra attentive in small towns flooded with restaurants bc otherwise people will not return. read more

The food was outstanding. However, the low rating is caused by the service. While the food was presented quickly, the waiter with the tattoo on his neck is rude, unprofessional, and arrogant. I actually caught him leaning over trying to stare down my wife's shirt. He attempted to charge me for multiple beers when only one was ordered, and after correcting him on it, he attempted to charge my card for it until I ordered to see the corrected bill. read more

entered restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the nice decor. cool artsy displays on the walls. menu pricing was bit on the high side, comparing to prices in the bay area where i am from. my wife and i started out with the shrimp summer role which fresh and delicious especially with the peanut sauce. she ordered the egg roll and pork vermicelli and i order the combination pho (the first under the pho options). by far the pork was the most delicious thing we ordered. very tender and well flavored. the pho broth was great. noodles were fresh. came with ample amount of beef and tripe. my wife had the thai iced tea which she loved. i was not so happy with my honey dew bubble tea. the tapioca was not fresh. staff was very friendly and courteous. would definitely return to try other options, maybe the thai options!!! read more

I enjoy the lean beef fo soup. Add a little chilly paste, and bam, slurp away on those noodles. Yum yum! Always greeted by a certain waiter with "Hay!" And lots of thank yous. This is my new favorite restaurant! The coconut shrimp are off the hook,they come with a red thai sauce I have never had with coconut shrimp. Portion was generous. My seafood pho was huge and had plenty of seafood. My wife's thai green curry was off the hook,very hot and savory! I cannot believe I am giving a restaurant 5 stars let alone for an Asian restaurant in Humboldt County. There are very few fair to good restaurants in Humboldt county and I have dined in Eureka, Arcata, and Trinidad. I almost did not want to write a review for this restaurant in fear of letting out a hidden gem. Food We ordered the bbq grilled pork and egg roll over vermicelli, summer shrimp roll, pho, bubba tea and thai ice tea. I am incredibly impressed with the grilled pork. It is by far the best i have eaten in NY and the Bay area. The Pho was good. I am all about the soup base and it is good enough to temporarily curb cravings and not have to run back to the Bay area for good pho soup. The boba in the bubble tea was NOT fresh and not good. The rest of the drink was delicious. The Thai Ice Tea was good. The summer roll was really fresh. Ambiance The decor was a shocker. I did not expect the restaurant to look so freakin nice from the outside of the building. It is not the traditional Vietnamese decor which I am glad. It was upscale and decorative. We went during lunch and it was quiet except for families with kids. Service Excellent. Polite. Friendly. My ice water came with cucumbers and was refilled EVERY sip i took. The waiters came by constantly to check if we were done or needed anything. When they would take some plates away to make space on the table, they would say "excuse me" which is refreshing. Love this place. I started going here when they first opened and told them to open one up in Arcata....and they did! Sonny's extended family owns Pho Huoang and they are awesome too. Sonny and Angel cook up a mean pho which has a 9 out of 10 broth and high quality noodles, beef and Vietnamese vegetables. Service is always very fast and the place is spacious. House Special Beef Pho+Carrot Salad+Pad Thai. My girlfriend and I decided to try something new today and boy were we surprised. The food came out extremely quick. Service was a little awkward but not terrible unlike a few other places in town. The Pho broth was to die for and the beef was just perfect with a hint of sweetness to it. Ok, I go because the food is good and the service is quick. Comes in handy when you're in a hurry. Buuuuut, the service is horrible- only because all the times I've gone I get stuck with the same waiter. He has a "I fucken hate my job" attitude. A very obvious one, trust me you'll notice who it is if you ever go. He's rude. The first time I went, he completely messed up my order and blamed it on me. Instead of trying to correct it he said it was my fault for not telling him how I wanted my food. Oh and the table next to us had to chime and say I was being specific. The second time, (same waiter as usual), my friend noticed his finger was touching my food as he set it down and when the plate was finally in front of me, there was an obvious hair on it. I told him to please take it back and bring me another. Instead, he said the hair is mine (mind you- I pulled it out of my food in front of him so it was still stuck between the food!!!!!) and said he didn't touch my food. Finally, after much back and forth he finally takes it back. My friend wanted to cause a scene but I was just tired of the waiter. My partner and I went for the first time on Saturday afternoon. Decent food, but wished the service could have been a little more friendly. We ordered the Pho Tai, Tom Kha Gai, Lemongrass Chicken Spring Rolls, and a couple drinks. The broth in a the Pho Tai was decent, but slices of beef flank steak was very grisly and hard to chew. Tom Kha Gai was good but had a very generic spice flavor, as if pre packaged spice blend was used. We liked the Lemongrass Chicken Spring Rolls and the peanut sauce that came with it. The chicken is ground, and not very prominent in texture if spring roll. Lemongrass flavor also not noticeable in dish. But for almost $7 for two small spring rolls did not seem worth it. We tried ordering from their list of milk teas but they seemed to have been out, so only the smoothies were available. We had a strawberry smoothie, which was very good and creamy, but we also ordered a taro smoothie, and that was much too sweet. Overall, good food and cleanliness. read more

I went to this restaurant on a referral from an acquaintance. The food was wonderful but the service was the worst I have had on my travels. There were two very pretty young ladies that came in ahead of me and got the gold treatment. When I came up to the front, I was told to just grab a menu and find a seat. I sat there for 15 minutes waiting to order. When they finally came over the waiter said, "Whadda want?" I ordered, and when my waiter brought my food, he just tossed my plate onto the table. I have visited this place several time and each time they are SO incredibly rude. We wait a long time to be "seated" (get pointed to a table), menus are slammed down on the table, we wait so long to get our order taken or to even get something to drink. Also, the way they talk to people is not okay. We have gone when they are busy and when we are literally the only ones in the restaurant. It is absolutely ridiculous. We have given this place several chances, because we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.
