Other than my mama, no one else makes it good enough and even though it's pretty darn tasty here, I still have to get it extra spicy. The bun bo hue here is the best, best, best bun bo hue I've ever had!! It's so full of flavor, and they are more than generous with how much meat they put in your bowl! Be warned, it's pretty spicy. My nose is usually running and my tongue feeling numb by half-way through the meal. If you don't think you can handle the spiciness, you can ask them to make it less spicy for you. I won't lie. The service here is pretty bad. If they're busy, good luck getting any attention or help from the workers. The staff members have a tendency to all disappear in the kitchen in the back and only pop out every once in awhile. However, their bun bo hue is just too good. The spicy special is what 80% of all customers here order. Sometimes it is packed. The knuckle and cube of cooked blood usually deters newcomers, but you don't have to eat it. Also, the fiery red color makes it look unbearably spicy, but it is not all that spicy. The round noodles that feel like kiddie spaghetti easily splits into chunks when you bite into it, and the overall flavor is hard to explain, but addictive. Heard about this place on Facebook and decided to give it a try. Food was alright ($9-$10.50 a bowl), but what really scared us was the condition of the restaurant when we dropped by to grab our to-go - there was absolutely no ventilation inside as we lined up to pickup our food, the air was muggy, the smell of cigarettes in the mix made the air worse, the waiters/waitresses kept pulling their mask off while they were serving, etc. With the pandemic still going on, no way are we walking back into that place for another second again. read more

BBH is probably my most favorite noodle soup of Vietnamese cuisines. Having lived in NYC with no good BBH, I always had to get it whenever I would visit my friend in Houston. Well...life has taken me permanently to Dallas and I couldn't be more delighted to be surrounded by good vietnamese food. However, having tried BBH in at least 10 different places, I must say that a lot of them were disappointingly too bland or too sweet. The only place I would get BBH now is from Pho Tay Do, even though it is quite far from me, I still make the drive out here especially when I get visitors from back home. Their BBH is so flavorful and they dont skimp on the ingredients. The meat is so tender and plentiful. I love blood so I always get an extra side of it and for $3 they give you a nice size bowl of it. I only wish they were a little closer to me but hey, beggars cant be choosers. This was the first time I tried BBH and it was amazing! I'm sorry to say that the food here has gotten worse over time. I first had Bun Bo Hue here in 2012 - I thought the broth was good, might have been good enough for me to keep coming back. (I am picky when it comes to Vietnamese food since I used to live in Houston). I did come back a few times after that only to realize that the quality of the broth was degrading. My most recent experience here was last Wednesday. Came with my boyfriend - we shared a large bowl of Bun bo, spring rolls, and egg rolls. DO NOT ever order spring rolls or egg rolls here. Trust me on this. They did not even get the peanut sauce right... They both tasted like they are at least 3 days old. The meat smelled funky and the wrap was not crunchy on the egg rolls. But I should have known not to order anything other than bun bo here. Even the bun bo was disappointing though. The broth tasted diluted, no where close to the flavor it used to have. The broth has a vibrant red color to it which made me think that it was going to be spicy (yum!). But I didn't break a sweat. So where did all that color come from? Makes you wonder, doesn't it? The only thing good about that bowl was the meat. Their meat is not bad quality, I'll give them that. Also, our waitress was nice and fast. So bottom line, if you're looking for a delicious bowl of Bun bo, I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

I hardly write reviews, but my gosh I really need to voice how freaking orgasmic the BBH is. *IF YOU'RE HESITANT OR NEVER HAD THE BBH HERE, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO TRY IT ASAP* my boyfriend ordered 2 to-go yesterday, and I really wish I took pictures before we inhaled it, but let me just say that we were greeted with mounds (and I mean MOUNDS) of the most perfect slices of TENDER ASS MEAT they also gave a literal HEAPING amount of noodles, too. my to-go container easily weighed 5 pounds or more, EACH. their slices of thit bo (beef) were perfectly tender and not hard and tough at all (like the meat from Duc Chuong BBH). they also gave a SHIT TON more than DCBBH, plus with a little more variety of meat, including a DE-freakin-LICIOUS slice of pork roll (no, not the cha). speaking of, I am genuinely upset that they only give 1 piece of that melt-in-your-mouth pork roll. it's crack. my soul left my body when I ate it. I was also told the man who took my bf's order and paid him out was also super kind and sweet. That dish is authentic for those who know what bun bo hue is supposed to taste like. we had lunch at about 2:30 PM last Saturday, the waiter did not receive the order correctly what I ordered. it seemed that he did not pay attention to what I ordered at that moment. We ordered 2 Pho and 2 Bun Bo Hue for 4 persons. Bun Bo has only one option so it is fine. For Pho, 1 of them was "Tai Nam" and the other was "Tai Bo Vien" but then we received 1 bowl with "Nam" only and another with "Tai Nam" which was incorrect. No long review needed (also I have a splitting headache due to all the alchy from nye), it's simply the best version of BBH this side of town. It's authentic with the pigs blood, cha lua, and ox tail. They don't skimp on any of the add ons to make it a delicious broth of goodness. A small size bowl is plenty for me. Just one nitpicky observation, the cafe sua da comes out already made instead of on the drip thingy. Ugh my brain is not working. So you can't control the sweetness and taste of the cafe sua da. Their bun bo hue is really really good. The best I've had. The noodles have the perfect amount of chewiness and it's not too soft or too hard. Their soup and everything in it is really good. I ordered it without cilantro but it was still really good. I would have given this restaurant a 2 but the bun bo hue was too good. I also tried the spring rolls. It tasted okay- I've had much better. The outer wrap was falling apart because it was too soft and everything was falling out by the time I was halfway through with the spring rolls. I wouldn't recommend coming here to eat good spring rolls. As for service, it was not good. I'm sure it would have been better if I was Vietnamese or spoke viet. My waitress didn't really know English and no one greeted me at the door so I had to just seat myself and get the server's attention. And my waitress just plopped down my food and spilled a little bit of my soup and just left.... I would've been very not pleased if the bun bo hue wasn't so good. The restaurant also seemed like it was falling apart. Many of the tables were wobbly and he thick books to balance them. It just looks like they haven't changed a thing for ten years. I will definitely be back for this dish! However, the springs rolls are okay. And I love my spring rolls. But it didn't seem fresh. I wish they used regular pork shoulder. Plus, I always get excited for peanut sauce. But not this time, the sauce had a light color, with a light taste that was served cold! I'll go to another place for spring rolls, thank you. Let me start by saying this I have been raised eating BBH throughout my childhood. My mom's side is originally from Hue, Vietnam, thus my taste for this particular noodle dish is quite high. There are a near infinite amount of noodle dishes to try in Vietnam, and while others' favorite is Pho, mine is definitely BBH. Pho Tay Do does pass my test for the broth, the smell, taste and proportion. Their proportion is really good for the price. They are generous with the broth, the meat and the noodles. This is my version of what BBH appears in front of my hungry, and ready-to-slurp-down face. Over a massive pile of tangly medium sized rice vermicelli noodles, then came the most noticeably beautiful hunk of meat of them all, a gorgeous orange stained slice of ox tail, then red oily soup broth, and finally sprinkled on a handful of both chopped white onions and green onions. The broth of Tay Do is wonderful, with a smooth beef flavor, a bit of red oil floating on top, salted to perfection (with likely some MSG included), and with a slight citrusy component to it. Along with my personal addition of sour lime juice and chili (sate paste), it was a wonderful well rounded broth. While I thought BBH here is delicious, I have to take one star away as the service at this particular restaurant was below par. The guys here appeared not to be really friendly. They didn't want to respond to our order or even make eye contact. Our order came out right thou but that makes us reluctant to ask for more chili (we like our BBH to be spicy!). Anyway, BBH at Tay Do is so good, we will come back despite us not so happy with the service. read more
