Nice atmosphere, very sparse inside but comfortable. I loved the gyoza, the spicy tonkatsu had the right amount of spice. I enjoyed the yaki udon, however the charsu did not have much flavor

The spicy tonkatsu is fantastic. I tried the grapefruit tea today - it was delish. Don't leave without trying the pork bun appetizer.

Welp, I've finally tried Maru Ramen. After saying ive wanted to try it for the last almost 3 years lol. I love the ambiance of this place. it has the vibe of a mom and pop restaurant, which is what i love. The service was great, im terrible with names, i have no idea who helped me. But he was very attentive and helped me pick out my ramen being yhat it was first time being here. I can say ive tried different ramen places and this definitely one of my favorite and i will definitely being coming back. P.s. the pork buns were really good, I tried pork buns at another restaurant and they were cold. But these were not, the buns was soft and warm. The slice of pork was good and tender.

The Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen is delicious!

Great service and delicious food. Place looks dark like is closed but it is not, pull the door hard.

Cute and cozy spot! Interesting seats, not necessarily comfortable. They give you two options to choose for the noodles. Ramen is fairly bland, something is missing in the broth. I was able to fix it by requesting some of the spicy paste they offer. Servers are not that attentive unfortunately.

The food here is delicious, but plan to come here on a weekday late in the afternoon when they aren't busy. We came during the Lunar New Year celebrations when the City of Richardson was having a festival in the Chinatown plaza where this restaurant is located. The restaurant was packed! We sat in the waiting area for 20 minutes before a table cleared. Once seated, we ordered drinks and foods immediately, but waited at least an hour for our hakata noodle ramen to show up. The food was delicious, but the wait was so long, we missed the entire festival taking place outside. It was chilly inside. Our table was near the kitchen and the front door, but even when the door wasn't open, it was quite cool inside. I'm guessing they had the air circulating for the wait staff and kitchen crew who were probably hot from running around all day serving everyone. It wouldn't have been so bad if we could have received our ramen sooner so that we could warm our insides with hot broth. The food was delicious, well my spicy tonokata was delicious. It was flavorful without being so spicy that your nose started running. lol! The hakata noodles were plentiful and delicate enough that you could break them without slurping continuously for five minutes. Ha ha ha! Seriously, I was super happy with the tangled nest of noodles. There were a lot! That made me very happy. Waitstaff were nice, apologetic about the wait, good about refilling our drinks on a regular basis. Price was about $44 with drinks. Not cheap, but average for the area. I would come back, but definitely in the off season.

FOOD Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen - Great dish overall! The ramen noodles are great consistency that had a bit of chewiness and bounce to it (Sapporo Noodles). The dish was a bit on the spicier side but perfect for colder weather. Broth was super yummy and not too salty. The chashu was super tender and yum. The egg was a bit more on the cooked side so the yolk was not runny but it still had great taste! Presentation is also very nice. Definitely recommend this place! VIBES Seating consists of chairs and tables as well as long wooden benches. Tables are great size and fit food well. I didn't feel squished and layout gives nice space. Decorations are nice! A bit more on the casual atmosphere side but great for eating with friends, meetups, family meals, and pretty much any occasion to get ramen. SERVICE Service was great! They checked in on us often and refilled water quickly. No complaints here!

A clean and comforting aesthetic right as you walk in. Great service, and a fun variety of food options. We got an appetizer of pork buns, and the texture combination was perfect. Soft bun and chashu with a delicious crunch of carrot and cucumber. The vegetables and soy glaze added a hint of sweetness to the char of the chashu. The ability to choose your noodle type was something I love because my husband likes thick curly noodles (Sapporo style) while I love the thin noodles (Hakata). Thick slices of chashu and a light flavorful Tonkotsu broth. Between my spicy tonkotsu and my husbands black garlic tonkotsu, his garlic ramen would be our suggestion.

Man, oh man, were my expectations high based on the amount of reviews I thought I was in for a treat ! I'm leaving hungry and disappointed! Let's start with the edamame. We ordered spicy.. they threw crushed red peppers on it and called it a day. What the heck is that? The ribs were overcooked, and well, yeah, you can see the photo. Now, the ramen.... It has 0 taste. Like, if you purchase the boxed ramen broth at the grocery store, throw noodles in, that's what you just paid for. The chashu was disgustingly cold and so chewy it felt like rubber with again 0 taste. The ambiance is alright, quiet, and the seating isn't too bad , spread out and decent. The service was eh, nothing special and nothing poor.

Just stumbled across this place while trying to find a place to eat dinner on vacation. It was absolutely delicious! We had the black garlic ramen, pork buns, tonkatsu ramen & shoyu ramen. All the broth was full of flavor. Pork bun was delicious with crisp vegetables for a crunch. The gyoza dipping sauce was perfect.

Pretty decent ramen. I think the flavor is there and there's not too much going on in the bowl, which I liked. The menu is simple and the atmosphere is cozyish. Service is okay- I think they're all students. Worth trying if you're nearby!

My first two experiences at Maru Ramen were positive but the last couple of times I have came here; I have been incredibly disappointed with the service and food. The last time I came to have a bowl of ramen, my boyfriend and I were looked at as we walked in then ignored for a couple of minutes. When someone did help us, we were sat at a dirty table when there were other tables available. I kindly asked to be moved to another table and they were not happy with my request, but they did move me. We ordered some fried gyoza (which was delicious) but the dipping sauce was not good at all. It felt like they just poured old soy sauce into a bowl. The ramen noodles and brother were amazing, but the pork belly could be worked on. Despite not having a great experience this past time, the restaurant is modern and clean. The tables are unique as they are are all wood; but the only downside of everything is how close they are together. You have a difficult time pulling out the benches if there is another party behind you.

The stars were aligned correctly and I was able to come to the Richardson location right when it opened. As someone that's a huge fan of Izakaya's - Mr Max did leave a little bit to be desired. Food quality was great, don't get me wrong - however I feel like for the cost, the portions are a little bit on the small side. The menu is also a little limited - this location has been open a while already so I assume they aren't going to expand the menu beyond whatever is already on there. I guess I've just been spoiled with other Izakaya's having pages upon pages of things to choose from. The dining area is quite nice, though I heard the og Irving location has tatami style seating - which this one does not. Not a deal breaker for me. Staff was nice and restaurant was clean, just wish their portion sizes were at least a little more "Texas" sized for the price. Other diners I went with said the noodles are better at the Irving location but I can't speak to that as I've never been there. All in all still a nice dining experience.

The ambience is definitely less classic izakaya style (no taking your shoes off or sitting at the bar watching the chefs work in the kitchen), but all of our favorite dishes that we've tried at the Richardson location have been spot on. We like to do shareable small plates style, even for the "bigger" entrees like ramen and the house curry, and we're always stuffed at the end of our meal. Service is pretty good and personally I love that this location is much closer to where we live and usually also much less busy than the OG location; better for us to walk in whenever we want :) Can't wait to return soon!

The restaurant wasn't busy at the time, so it was no big deal, but worth noting. The service was actually the highlight of the night, and earned this review one additional star simply because of the effort involved. Else it would be a 3 star review. There was only one server running the entire front of house while the restaurant got progressively busier, and only two chefs in the kitchen. Despite being swamped, the server worked her tail off. She didn't mess up a single order for our large group and kept things moving. I greatly appreciated her hard work. Appetizers (5/5): The wait for food was noticeable due to the staffing, but the appetizers were worth it. We ordered the Edamame, Yatai Gyoza, Agedashi Tofu, and Takoyaki, and all of them were delicious. Entrees (3/5): Unfortunately, the main courses were a bit basic compared to the starters. The Tonkotsu Ramen was strictly average; I've definitely had better broth and noodles elsewhere. If you are looking for the top-tier quality izakaya, Mr. Max Izakaya in Irving is hands down better option. However, you have to wait an hour for a table there.

Located in Richardson on the NE corner of E Arapaho and N Plano Rd, this location of Nora Asian Fresh is nestled between Best Donuts and a Nails & Spa. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, this franchise has 15 locations in Arizona and 3 in Texas (Richardson, Plano, Austin). I'm not sure how long this location has been opened, but the very small shoppe corner that they're in appears to dated and doesn't scream "come have dine here". But as the old adage goes, looks can be deceiving. The dining area is simple yet inviting with the unique wood like vertical panels filling the entire far wall. There are no booths, just table and chair throughout. You place your order at the counter using the large digital menu on the wall. After placing your order you can help yourself to their drink station then pick your table. They will soon bring your meals to your table. As noted in their name, Nora Asian Fresh prides themselves on making everything fresh daily. I saw the young lady who was taking orders in the back making dumplings when I went to ask for take out containers. Their menu provides a nice mix of "fusion" dishes which really just means they have a little bit of everything. Their appetizer menu includes such items as eggrolls, edamame, dumplings, jalapeno poppers and squid salad just to name some. Their Bowl meals which come with steamed rice include orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, broccoli beef, pork katsu with curry, teriyaki salmon as well as poke or unagi bowls. On the Ramen & Asian list are miso, tonkotsu or seafood ramen, fried rice, chow mein chicken, chicken biryani, pad thai and Malaysian noodle. Finally there's a long list about 30 different sushi rolls. Jerry and J ordered the Orange Chicken Bowl. Katie tried the chicken fried rice. Jeanne got the Pad Thai and I tried the Malaysian Noodle (of course). We also tried their chicken egg rolls and chicken dumplings. Egg rolls and dumplings: Both were a tad overcooked and their skins were just a little too dry and crunchy. They should've been taken out of the fryer about 30 seconds earlier. The fillings were delicious and they were served with dipping sauces. Orange Chicken Bowl: Presentation was nice with fresh boiled broccoli in a large bowl. Both said it was good. J said "It was pretty good best I've had in a while. It wasn't too sweet and had good flavor." I tried some and I agreed. It was overly battered like some places like to make it and the taste on it was delicious. Not overly sweet and was even a little tart. Yom Yom Yom. It was a large portion, but J finished the entire bowl. Jerry and the rest of us had enough for another meal. Chicken fried rice: I didn't get to taste, but it looked good. Katie like everything about it except the way the chicken was cooked. Note that Katie is very particular about her the way she wants her chicken cooked. Also a large portion. Pad Thai: Noodles, shredded carrots, green onions tossed in a wok and garnished with fresh bean sprouts and crushed peanuts, Jeanne enjoyed it but was surprised they didn't ask how spicy she wanted it. Malaysian Noodles: I guessed from the photos in the menu that this was Char Kway Teow and I was right. It is a popular Malaysian stir-fried noodle dish using flat rice noodles. Their cook did an excellent job. It had a nice smoky with a savory sweet taste. It is tossed in a wok with eggs, bean sprouts, chives and in my case, shrimp. It was outstanding! Yom Yom Yom Yom. There are many other "Malaysian" dishes, but if you have to choose only one to put on your menu, this would be a good choice and they do it quite well. Personally I could eat there every week especially since they have so many other dishes to sample. But unfortunately I live 639 miles away. Thanks for a nice lunch Nora!
