    C16. Sizzling Black Pepper Chicken
    Sahithi B.

We came here after my cousin's engagement to have dinner with the whole extended family. We had almost 40 people in our party, and they had our tables all ready when we entered and were very quick when serving us. We ordered a ton of food, from the dishes we ordered: LOVED: Fried chicken with red chili , Kung pao chicken, veggie fried rice (asked them to make it spicy), eggplant with garlic sauce, Dan Dan noodles Good: Chicken lo mein, sizzling black pepper chicken (flavor was good but a bit oily for me), sichuan string bean, Mapo tofu, scallion pancake Probably won't order again: shrimp dumplings We also had the hot jasmine tea which was good as well. Our server was so great and truly added to the experience. The ambiance was nice with cute decorations around. All in all, this is a great restaurant and I would come back if I'm back in the area.

Twice Cooked Pork, Homestyle Tofu, Eggplant Not bad at all, pretty solid meal. Tofu and eggplant dishes were done well. I will say though, if you're looking for a great twice cooked pork, definitely go to Genroku, nothing quite compares!

This is an authentic Sichuan restaurant. The chestnut and pork belly is delightful, the dumplings are good. The cumin lamb is tasty, but arrived a bit cold to our table. We were charged for rice with entrees, which I know is a growing practice but really puts me off a place because it's so essential (would you charge extra for rice at Chipotle? For the bread on your sandwich? It's the same idea). The indoor decor is cute/classy with Chinese elements. Our server was a young woman who behaved a bit oddly to me, speaking with other guests in Chinese but only speaking to me in English despite me initiating dialogue in Chinese when she seated us or took our order. Maybe it's because I look more Chinese-American or came with someone non-Chinese, but I felt strangely singled out and it was not the "taste of home" experience I had initially sought.

Not sure if there was a change in chefs but today's meal was horrendous. I didn't get a photo due to the pure shock and disgust but I ordered my typical order and found a piece of steel wool in my food. This is absolutely irresponsible of the chef and their kitchen regulation. It is absolutely unacceptable as steel wool ingested could have major gastrointestinal implications. The owner must be careful to emphasize not using steel wool to clean pots that will be used prior to make food. I will not be back and greatly disappointed in the regulation of food safety in this place. They did cook me a new bowl of my order but after seeing the piece of steel wool I could not eat it. Old lady apologized profusely but did claim that "accidents happen." This is not an accident but a major flaw in preparation. No I didn't receive a discount for this experience either and was charged full price.

I took my mom here recently and we both loved it!! My family has been going to Royal Sichuan for years. Here's what we ordered: Pan fried buns - dough is fluffy and very tasty! I liked how both the tops and bottoms are fried. The dipping sauce complemented everything nicely. Unfortunately though, there wasn't much filling inside the buns, but the small amount that Was there was delicious. Black pepper beef - extremely tender and flavorful pieces of beef. It comes sizzling on a hot plate. My mom and I couldn't have enough; it was that good!! Shrimp Lo Mein - I liked the choice of noodle that was used and the flavor was great. I would pick a different protein next time just because the shrimps were small and I didn't taste the wok-hei. Fish in tofu pot w/ cayenne - this is my mother's favorite dish to order at Sichuan restaurants. The tofu and fish are both delightfully tender. Soup also has great flavor but actually isn't that spicy. I've never had something from here I didn't like. Royal Sichuan is my favorite Sichuan restaurant in DFW and would highly recommend!

Service is certainly not the best. But made up by some pretty good food. I had the combination fried rice, and I think it is one of the best around. Ambience looks like a traditional Chinese Restaurant. Prices are fair.

Great restaurant that has spicy food. While Chinese restaurants in the area aren't like truly exceptional by any means. There are some that are decent and this is one of them

We have an adventurous lunch group at work and Royal Sichuan was our latest stop. This place is definitely one you should do family style. We ordered too much food as usual and it was about $17/person. Pan fried bun - 3/5 stars. This a Shanghai dish and the ones I've had there are far better. The bun texture was a bit heavy and the pork filling wasn't anything special. I probably wouldn't order this one again. Sliced Fish with Rattan Pepper - I had to didn't know what a Rattan pepper was but it's just a Sichuan pepper. This dish is tilapia chunks in a light broth with mushrooms and plenty of peppercorns. Healthy and light! Be warned that the pepper will affect your sense of taste and this is normal! Eggplant with Garlic Sauce - 4.5/5 stars. This dish is always good anywhere I've gotten it and Royal Sichuan is no exception. Mapo Tofu - 4/5 stars. I've had more flavorful renditions elsewhere but still good. I think it could have benefitted from more spice/heat. Spicy Dumplings - 3.5/5. I thought the wrappers could have been more tender. They ate more like reheated leftover dumplings. Dan Dan Noodles - 5/5 No complaints about this one! The noodles had a great toothsome texture and ground pork added saltiness and fat. We'll be back!

Delicious traditional Chinese food! I love going out for Dim Sum and this is very much like that, unlike the Americanized versions out there they focus on more savory flavors

I am a regular here and I've been going here for 5+ years. They have a HUGE selection of authentic Sichuan food that is unforgettably delicious. Anything in their fiery sauce is mouthwatering. The dumpling sauce is to die for. Dan Dan noodles are the best! And if you're feeling adventurous, they have exotic options like frog and intestines that are worth a shot.

    Chris K.

The dishes are divine. Royal Sichuan is one of the best in the Dallas area. Make sure to take time and explore Chinatown before your meal as well as it is the anchor to so much in the Richardson Core District.

Does this restaurant use peppercorn and garlic in its 水煮肉片 (water boiled pork in spicy sauce)? Just wanting to know before trying it. I've found these to be essential while eating a lot of iterations of the dish in China. Thanks!

Yes they do! The peppercorns give it that numbingly spicy flavor! ?

    Is this a BYOB restaurant?

    Yes. Bring wine.

The people are the exact same. It was truly a feeling of nostalgia that's hard to describe. My favorite dish has always been, and still is, the bamboo shoots with pork. It is so fragrant, umami, and simply delicious. The west lake soup is also a classic done so well - pro tip to add white pepper to give it a little kick. The steamed pork belly was okay - sauce is flavorful (a touch salty) along with the preserved greens but the pork wasn't as tender as I had remembered it. The fish filets are fried to perfection, full of salt/pepper flavor, and pairs well with the jalapeños. If you don't like fish, you can get the same flavor with the pork version of this dish, which I also really like. The service can be a little slow because it's just 1 chef and 1 waitress who own the restaurant - same people that have run the show since I first came here probably almost 30 years ago! Incredible to see them still working so hard and serving delicious food. They'll never know how much their restaurant and food means to me!

But the reviews were suspiciously glowing, so curiosity (and hunger) won. We pulled up and I took one look at the building: older, unremarkable, zero curb appeal. Classic "meh." They first sat us in a booth but I requested later on to be moved to a large round table since we ordered A LOT. But back to when we first sat in the booth - As a Chinese woman, the second I spotted the older seats with ripped upholstery, it hit me like a culinary prophecy: this place was going to serve me some incredible, authentic Chinese food. I don't know what it is, but there's an inverse law of Chinese restaurants: the less fancy the exterior (and the more the booth looks like it's survived several natural disasters), the better the food. Apparently they skip Instagram-worthy renovations and put the budget where it belongs--on the plate! This is now hands down in my top 3 favorite Chinese restaurant in North Dallas - I can even say it's on the very top. I haven't forgotten about the staff. They deserve 10 stars. Super nice!

We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 7 p.m., and surprisingly, we were the only customers there, considering it was peak dinner time. We also discovered that we needed to pre-order the duck in advance. Luckily, the lady informed us that there was one available for us, but it would take about 30 minutes. We ordered the crispy cucumber salad, xiao long bao, and the dry-fried string beans. The dry-fried string beans were my favorite. The string beans had a delightful crisp texture and a flavorful taste. The cucumber salad was also good, but some parts were a bit soggy. The XLB skin was too thick and chewy, and it didn't taste like the usual soup dumplings, which was disappointing. I was excited for the duck, but I was honestly disappointed when it arrived. The portions were quite small, considering it was a whole duck. It wasn't carved tableside, which was a letdown. Some parts of the duck were dry, and the skin wasn't crispy enough. To add to the disappointment, they charge extra for almost everything. If you want more pancakes or their homemade duck sauce (which tasted like black bean sauce), you'll have to pay an additional $5. Another thing to note is that they are BYOB, so you can bring your own alcohol. However, the menu pictures on Yelp are outdated, and they only offer whole Peking duck, not half orders. Overall, the food was just okay, and I'll probably try a different spot when I'm in the mood for duck again.
