Pho Tasty is a wonderful place for pho and other Vietnamese entrees and appetizers! They also have a wide assortment of smoothie drinks to really round out the dining experience. Spoiler: Pho Tasty is the best Vietnamese place in town! Davis has really lacked delicious and quality Vietnamese food. There are a couple of options around, but Pho Tasty is the top of class in my opinion! The pho at Pho Tasty is the main attraction of the menu. It comes in 3 sizes (small, large, and extra large) and with many options of what you can put into it. The pho is very customizable and you can really add in any of your favorite pho ingredients. The broth is flavorsome, but the noodles themselves tend to bunch up together - which can make eating them a little bit more difficult. My actual favorite item to get at Pho Tasty is the vermicelli noodles with your choice of meat. The sliced pork has my absolute go-to and has a sweet char to it that really brings out that bbq taste. This dish as well as the rice version comes with egg rolls or a fried egg for a little extra. It's a decent portion and makes a great meal. I found the servers and staff to be very friendly on my visits to Pho Tasty. They were accommodating and when a friend had a slight issue with his dish, they fixed it immediately for him. If anything, I'd say that the pricing at Pho Tasty is a little big higher than your traditional Vietnamese restaurant. Ordering more than one item can really increase your final tab, so don't let your eyes get too big on that menu if you're looking for a budget meal option. I'm very happy that we have Pho Tasty in Davis now. It's a restaurant that I will frequent quite often whenever I need my Vietnamese food fix! read more

I've been to Pho Tasty a few times now and I will say it's the best option for Vietnamese food in Davis! What I've tried so far: Special pho - A Best pho you'll find in Davis because the broth is delicious. Decent amount of meat, great with the sriracha and hoisin sauces, bean sprouts, mint, and lime. Wonton noodle soup with egg noodles - B+ Broth tastes great and I love egg noodles. The wontons weren't the best, but I do like the Chinese BBQ pork and bok choy they added. Special Banh mi - B Weird that it's served with sweet potato fries, but the sandwich is very solid. The bread is good and easy to bite into, and the meat is pretty decent. Egg rolls (fried) - A Delicious appetizer and one of my favorite things to order here! Served with a sweet fish sauce which is always great. Crab rangoon - C+ Not amazing, but I was craving it. It's imitation crab and doesn't have a strong flavor, so mostly just cream cheese. Enjoyable if you like sweet and sour dipping sauce. I've come here twice now and the second time was much better than the first time since the first time was when they first opened. The broth is pretty solid but not amazing, the noodles are chewy - feels like it's been left out for a while, and the filet mignon meat is my favorite part. It's really tender. Congrats on your opening! We came for the Bun Rieu. Thank you Cathy W. for this recommendation. No joke, that broth is legit :) Yes, they are indeed generous with the delicious pork/shrimp/crab meatballs. Very nice touch with the fried tofu and cha lua. We also appreciated all the fresh toppings and herbs for our soup. Next, we tried their banh xeo. This was on point. From the first bite, you can taste the coconut milk in the batter. Believe it or not, the crispy edges were still crispy after we drove home with our take out order. Again, they were generous with the pork and shrimp filling. They also provide the perfect amount of lettuce to wrap our Vietnamese crepe, lots of fresh herbs, and the nuoc mam was good too...not too salty. I came here on a Friday afternoon with my friend and the restaurant was empty. I got the seafood pho and my friend got the beef pho. Expect to pay around $18-$20 for a bowl of pho. The portion was decent, though I feel like other pho restaurants give larger portions. I also felt like the noodle to meat ratio was ungenerous. Why be stingy with the meat/seafood if you are charging more than other pho restaurants? The servers, however, were kind and accommodating. After eating at other Davis establishments, I realize how much I like the food here. The options here are very tasty. The only thing I didn't care for was the Banh Xeo. It was a bit greasy. The Beef Roll appetizer is very yummy! Haven't tried everything, but whatever we tried has been good. They are a great value. Only thing is that sometimes they are out of our favorites. New pho go-to in Davis. This place recently opened up on G St replacing Taste of Thai. The interiors are the same and so is the yumminess of the food. I came here for take out, my order was ready within 15 mins. Service was fast and efficient. Chicken Pho + Super flavorful noodles, chicken and soup. Some people don't like pho because they think it is bland, I recommend they try the pho here. + Large portions (even the small size was huge). + Nice toppings (bean sprouts, lemon wedge, cilantro, basil, thin sliced chilies and onions) that complemented the flavors well. - Wish they gave soup spoons with pick up orders so it's easy to eat at home. Don't let the outside of this establishment fool you! Inside decor was cute, with string lights and fake palm trees. Service was so fast. Menu items were very pricey. About $16 for a Small and $18 for XL. Obviously I opted for the XL filet mignon + tripe pho. I also ordered a combo appetizer platter ($18 - also pricey IMO). Not sure why I ordered a fried platter dish but at the time I was ordering with hungry eyes and it sounded great. It comes with 2 of: coconut shrimp, tempura, egg rolls, dumplings, and crab Rangoon, and a sweet chili sauce. And to wash it all down I ordered Thai tea which was the right amount of sweetness. I was more than content with the pho. Great flavor, lots of noodles, meat, and tripe. Came here on Labor Day as a party of three. Coming in, my expectations were already pretty low because coming from SJ, I just knew that this would not be able to compare. That said, I got the bun thit nuong (otherwise said to be meat over vermicelli on their menu). I substituted the meat for the fried tofu option. I was nervous about their fish sauce, especially because the menu presents it as a "vinaigrette." That said, the veggies were very fresh and the presentation was so nice, also loved the addition of peanuts and shallots. However, the overall flavor of the dish is very dependent on the fish sauce and theirs was... very not good to put it nicely. It was too sour with the overwhelming taste of vinegar and there was not enough flavor from the fish sauce itself, just super bland. Good fish sauce should be a bit tangy, sweet, and savory! We also ordered the pho ga and pho dac biết and although I didn't try them myself, the other members of my party said the broth was very bland. Also, there was barely anything in the pho itself besides the noodles and the broth. The portion of meat was so small. That said, the decor of the place is nice. It's very modern and clean but the looks could not make up for the lack of flavor and substance in the food itself. Would not recommend going here if you're looking for some genuinely good Viet food. I really like how a lot of the tables are booths, which feels intimate and comfortable. I have ordered their beef pho as well as their vegetarian pho. I like the fact that they serve tripe--many pho restaurants don't but I personally love this ingredient in pho. I was shocked by how delicious and healing their vegetarian pho is. I ordered it with chicken broth and it just felt so homey and refreshing. Their guo bao is also so good. It's so hearty. It is a lot of food though--so I would say that it's hard to finish the pho AND the guo bao. But I highly recommend it. They are very generous with their portions. To set the stage, the restaurant has super dark tinted windows which makes you feel like you are walking into an adult bookstore. Inside, the place has an unfinished look to it. Boy is this restaurant hard to find! So this was Plan B after our failed attempt to get pizza from Woodstock Pizza. Found it on Yelp and saw it was nearby. So we walked from Woodstock in the direction of Tasty Pho... we crossed the street and walked halfway down the block before we realized that we should have seen the restaurant by then. The place was actually on the corner after crossing the street and we walked right past it because we didn't notice it. That's because the front of the restaurant is very plain. The windows and door are covered with some dark film so you can't see inside when you are walking by. And there are no signs visible from eye level to indicate that this was a restaurant and that it was open. This was definitely hard to find. We later noticed that there is a sign way up high above the door... but it's mounted so high that it is more visible if you were standing on the sidewalk across the street. The restaurant is quite large with tables fairly spaced apart. It was not cramped at all. We ordered 3 phos togo : filet mignon & well done flank ; filet mignon & tripe ; filet mignon & tendon. The broth cooled down quickly by the time we reached our hotel only 3 short blocks away, and it wasn't hot enough to "cook" the raw beef slices. The broth tasted ok. The kiddo loved the large chunks of tripe in her pho. Overall it was OK, but I don't feel I need to go out of my way to seek out this place. I think this restaurant could improve by adding a brightly lit "open" sign near the doorway, so people can find the restaurant. The pho is also the best in town (and the country if I'm being honest). Especially on cold days, the yummy yummy broth can warm you up on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. The meat, whether it be their filet mignon or brisket, is always tender and juicy. The rice noodles are the perfect width and never fail to captivate my taste buds. To complement the food, the wait staff and entire team at Pho Tasty are incredibly friendly. Their efficiency rivals that of an F1 pit crew. The speed at which I'm seated and served is almost cruel because it robs me of opportunities to truly take in the gorgeous tropical interior. Pho Tasty is a spot you cannot ignore if you're in Davis. This is the most decent pho in Davis! I am from the South Bay, where there are a lot of Vietnamese food. This place is good enough to satistfy a pho craving in Davis. I took my two friends here (as it was their first time trying pho), and they really liked it! I trusted this place enough to take them there for their first time... I would have gone to another city, but we wanted to stay local in Davis. There were many tables filled when we came in, but the service was quick and nice! I got the Pho with filet mignon and meatballs. I would give it a 4/5. The broth was really good! The price was decent for it's price (I got a small). It was $10 for this bowl. I found it really interesting that they have a XL size bowl of pho too here!! I have never seen that before, and I literally grew up eating pho. The beef and meetballs were great too! A good pho place to go to in Davis! Great service from our servers. One of my friends doesn't know how to use chopsticks, and they happily brought us a fork for her to enjoy her food. My two friends definitely want to come back and get some more pho! I want to get my friends to try bun bo hue here, and I have tried it at Pho Tasty before. It's good as well. Been here a few times, usually a nice little spot. There are NOT any pho places in my area so we travel here to get our fix. The broth in the PHO is usually bland, the customer service is okay usually slow due to being super short staffed. I usually only see one or two servers running around when it's been packed. Last time we had a huge table about 10+ and our food took almost an hour to come out and people who sat AFTER us were getting their food first, so we kept asking if at least appetizers were coming out? They usually said "okay let me go check" and nothing came out or they wouldn't come back to say anything. Today we ordered to go plates Sliced Pork over rice and a small pho! Was really excited to try this place. Def better than pho king in Davis, but still not like sac Viet spots. Was a little disappointed with their pho. It lacked flavor and depth, but if you like the really clean, clear, subtle and no MSG type of broths, then this might be for you. The banh xeo was good, but a little too oily for me. We also tried the buns, but they didn't have the duck we wanted, like Peking duck style. We tried it with it pork and it was ok. Eggs rolls were pretty standard, nothing special. My partner and I frequent Pho Tasty often. I usually get the Beef Special Pho, and I like the variety of tripe, beef cuts, and tendon. My partner gets the Pho Chay with tofu. Finding vegetarian pho can be hard, but they have it here! It is substantial and filling. He says the broth is variable in the depth of its flavor; mostly tastes like a cabbage broth. The tofu is abundant and lightly fried on the outside. The fried onions add a nice crunch. The sprouts, basil, and jalepano are usually plentiful and fresh enough to be enjoyable. Ok, so let's start with the rating. I would say a 3.5-3.75 out of 5 Stars ...but I'm not going to round up to 4... Here's why ... I came here on yet another weekly Uncle/Nephew Wednesday lunch with my awesome nephew. I was excited to try this new Pho place out because let's be honest, Davis has really ummm... "unsatisfying" Vietnamese food to say the least LOL . The reviews were great so I had to taste it for myself! One of the reviews says, "best pho in Davis!" Ok, so I think this holds true, but it doesn't make it great either. While I have to say that the broth was decent and definitely better than the other pho places, it didn't quite hit the spot for me. The noodles they use is stretchy and bouncy so it was a different texture than what I'm used to. However, they do give out a good portion of noodles, which is a plus! I ordered the Filet with a Fatty Brisket in a beef broth. I really like how they give a few different meat options. I was excited for my fatty brisket! Unfortunately, I was sort of taken aback by how fatty it was...like...straight up slabs of fat that didn't partially dissolve into the hot broth type fatty brisket. My first bite took me by surprise...I could feel my teeth going through the fat, which is a bit unsettling for my first bite. I did however, take most of the fatty brisket pieces home with most of the broth, and it tasted a little better after reheating the crap out of that broth. The filet pieces? Kinda meh... Also, my nephew got the beef balls and they are just the regular, run of the mill pho beef balls, which is ok. I do like that they give you basil pieces to flavor the pho with, unlike some of the pho places in Davis. We also got an appetizer! I love tempura shrimp, so we decided to try it! Why not right? Tempura shrimp at a Vietnamese restaurant? What could go wrong? Ok, it actually wasn't that bad, but it wasn't great either. Not much shrimp, mostly batter. It was also quite oily...enough to leave residue on your lips. Flavor was actually ok. Definitely room for improvement. Positives: 1. Nice setting inside, very clean with sanitizer on almost every table 2. We were greeted right when we walked in 3. Pho is definitely the best I've tasted IN DAVIS 4. Decorations and the water feature in front is a nice touch Negatives: 1. We were not even sure if they were OPEN! The windows are all darkened so it seemed closed. No signs in front at the door and it room us peering in and opening the door to realize they were actually open for business 2. A bit pricey for average level pho and appetizers. My go to pho places are in Vacaville and Sac and most good Vietnamese places price their pho at $10 or under... a large bowl here is $12 and above. Appetizer for 8 pieces of small sized shrimp tempura also $12...would not order again. 3. We didn't get our water until well after we started eating... OVERALL: Would eat here again. I do prefer this place if I were limited to pho in Davis. Broth is decent and the setting is pretty nice. However, I wouldn't frequent this place more than once a month or once every few months due to price. My journey to try Pho Tasty turned out to be quite an adventure! I saw that they were open on Yelp from 11-9 on Monday morning so I placed an order via doordash at noon to go pick up. Once I got there, Pho Tasty was closed! Rinse and repeat Tuesday morning. Undaunted, I decided to try one more time Wednesday for dinner, and it was finally open! (I swear I heard some angels singing!) Once in the store, I decided to try the Bun Rieu and the XL Pho with Fatty Brisket and Filet Mignon for takeout. Ordering was super quick, but the wait to get my food took about ~30 minutes. Super understandable though, it was dinnertime and there were only two workers since it's still the soft opening phase. The takeout was also super thoughtfully packaged, with the noodles, veggies and meat in a bowl/tray, and the soup in a separate container filled to the brim. Okay, onto the food! I can safely say that Pho Tasty is by far the best Pho place in Davis, and the food was absolutely incredible with a homemade taste. It kind of felt like you were at your good friend's house, and their mom made dinner! Bun Rieu - this was incredible! A delicious tomatoe-y taste with subtle tastes of crab, with loads of crispy caramelized onions, generous portions of pork and shrimp meatballs, tofu, and vietnamese ham! The rice vermicelli noodles were the perfect thickness! Even after a 20 minute drive home, the soup stayed piping hot and was the perfect temperature! Fatty Brisket and Filet Mignon Pho - SO good. Again, super generous portions - my fiance and I actually ended up separating the XL size into two huge bowls and were super stuffed. The soup base had minor hints of sweetness, and it contrasted so nicely with the lime, hoisin sauce, and siracha! Heads up that the filet mignon is raw, since it's supposed to be cooked within the soup! Even though we had takeout, the soup was still hot enough to heat up the filet mignon to the perfect rareness. I was so excited that a new pho place opened up in Davis. I got the Large special pho which was a beef broth base with a variety of beef (tendon, flank, brisket as well as tripe). The large bowl was plenty for me! While the broth was good, I do think it was missing some flavors. I also got the vermicelli with grilled pork, which was good but a little dry (it does come with a dressing on the side). Not sure if the noodles are normally this way, but were served cold/room temp. I would want to come back again and try some of the other things on their menu (like their banh xeo or banh mi). I would have liked a cheaper cut of meat with more protein. Yes, the broth was good, but you're getting mostly noodles. However, the owners are smart. They are located in a college town. They need to market their food to a particular crowd. It wouldn't be smart to provide a higher quality pho without the consumer demand. Finally an actual high quality Vietnamese restaurant has opened in Davis! I was oh so waiting for a quality Vietnamese place to open in Davis ever since my undergrad year at UCD. I remember having multiple cravings for pho and bun bo hue and being utterly disappointed at what was available at the time. So you know about red flags that are giveaways to avoid something right? Let me tell you about the green flags at this place! 1. High quality ingredients. Basil, bean sprouts, lemon are not janky and wilted. 2. Pho broth does not taste like it came from a rusty can. 3. The beef in the pho isn't chewy and gummy. 4. Eggrolls are non-uniform, so they aren't mass produced but made in house. Here are my ratings for the food we ordered! 1. Pho - 4.5/5 Great flavor, thin beef steak slices that come with it are so good. HUGE portions. $12 for a large is super reasonable. 2. Grilled Pork Vermicelli Bowl - 4.6/5 The grilled pork is grilled to perfection and marinated really well! I love the fact that it isn't dumbed down and under-seasoned like in other places. 3. Bun Rieu - 3.5/5 This was the least impressive dish out of the bunch. It didn't have the strong crab flavor I'm used to eating. 4. Egg Rolls - 5/5! These eggrolls are the bomb!! You can tell they're made in house. Crunchy on the outside (like it should be!) and filled with actual tasty meats. TLDR: Pho Tasty ranks 1st for Vietnamese spots in Davis -- just barely. And given how few spots there are to begin with and how underwhelming those places are, barely first in Davis doesn't really say all that much. I came with a friend on a Thursday night around 6pm -- not too busy, maybe 5 or so other parties were there. We ordered Bun Rieu ($15) and Grilled Sliced Pork Over Rice ($12) , add Egg Rolls ($2). The food came out in less than 20 minutes. Bun Rieu is usually a bright, savory noodle loaded with tomatoey and crab-meaty flavor. The Bun Rieu we had was like Disney's live-action remakes -- pretty good for their purpose, but nothing compared to the classics. The broth was lacking flavor on all fronts; you could almost see it from the picture (red tomatoey oil floating on top but nothing really within the broth). The shrimp and pork meatballs tasted almost solely of pork. I will say that the noodles were the perfect texture - soft enough to slurp down but solid enough to not turn into mush. The fried tofu and bits of fried onion also had some nice flavor. I just really wanted more UMPH from the broth and I was sad not to get it. The Grilled Sliced Pork Over Rice was decent. The pork was tender with a strong flavor that was mostly sweet. The pickled carrots were a little too sour but the pickled cabbage was good. I would have loved a fresh vegetable option as well, something like sliced cucumber to bring non-acidic freshness to the plate. The rice wasn't traditional Com tấm (broken rice) that you usually see with this sort of dish, but it still had the right texture to soak up the fish sauce without being completely sogged down. Also cool that it came in a pyramid shape lol. The egg rolls were crisped up nicely but the filling was pretty bland. Overall, a solid option for Viet food if you aren't willing or able to drive out to Sac or Vacaville for better options. Will be back to try other dishes (and Viet coffee!!) because it's hard to really judge a place off of 2 dishes. My boyfriend and I have been waiting to try Pho Tasty ever since we saw that it was going to open soon. We tried to come here yesterday and the previous day but it FINALLY opened so we got to try it today :) When we came inside, the restaurant interior is really cute & very clean. We ordered bun rieu, bun bo hue, an appetizer platter avocado smoothie, & a strawberry smoothie. Their bun bo hue had a decent lemon grass flavor compared to other places, but it wasn't very spicy and the broth is a bit more bland than I would like. The bun rieu was really good & I would recommend trying it. Both soups came with the proper herbs/veggies which I really appreciate :) As a person who grew up in San Jose with really good Viet food, I was really excited to finally have a place in Davis with decent Vietnamese food. I'll definitely come back to try their pho & other dishes next time!! Update: I've came back here and tried other dishes including their rice plate, bun bo hue, pho, and banh mi.
