Pad Si Ew
Mary N.

Solid Thai food located in the Nugget shopping center. Clean and sleek interior. The food wasn't a standout amongst all of the Thai places I've eaten at but it was good and hit the spot. The Yellow Curry with chicken was a bit watery but the had good flavor. The pad see ew has good flavor as well. Staff was friendly and efficient. I would come here again if I was in the area but probably wouldn't seek it out.

Nice looking place!

Decided to drop in since we always see it while going to Starbucks. Do yourselves a favor and get the mango salad, you wont regret it. Five words sums it up nicely. Best. Mango. Salad. In. NorCal.

Panang beef stew curry

Updated review: I was in the mood for Thai takeout and decided to give this spot another try. This time I stuck to the chef's special items and while they are pricier, they tasted insanely good! Panang beef stew curry: A I was surprised how much beef they give. It's barely any bell pepper and all beef! The panang curry tastes great, a bit sweet and coconutty. Beef is tender and this pairs perfectly with rice. Crispy pork belly stir fry: A- I love the crispy pork belly. Have never had it stir fried in sauce before but the Chinese broccoli is nice. This seems more like a Chinese influenced dish but still, flavor is there! Good sized portions! These two dishes plus rice could have easily fed 3-4 people.

Thai Beef Noodle Soup

Ambiance: Paste Thai is a local Thai restaurant with a modern casual aesthetic. Service: the service was standard and what should be expected at any restaurant Food: we got the pad Thai and Thai beef noodle soup. The pad Thai we felt was too sweet and the noodles were very hard. The noodle soup on the other hand was flavorful and had plenty of ingredients to complement the rich broth. Note: I would go to Paste Thai for its soups, if you are looking for pad thai I recommend Thai Canteen instead.

Pad Si Ew

In my opinion, the best place to get Thai food in Davis, super yummy and plenty of parking in the plaza. Greeted by the front desk and seated right away, the menu has plenty of items. Although I went for dinner, there is a lunch menu which is a few dollars cheaper than dinner. The restaurant was a simple modern dining experience, great for group settings or just yourself. Ordered a Pad Thai with chicken ($17.95) and Pad Si Ew with chicken ($17.95), there is an extra cost for other protein except chicken, tofu, and veggies. The portion of the Pad Thai is fairly large, the medium spicy is quite spicy after eating a few bites, just kept drinking water and honestly took a break from eating because of the spice. With that, the waitress was able to pick up the too spicy and offered to remake our dishes which I really appreciated. I really dislike sending food back because I believe that it is my fault for ordering incorrectly. He explained that sometimes the chili can be spicier than other times. As for the food, the noodles had a bouncy texture, al dente for sure which I enjoy. The tamarind sauce on the pad Thai was really delicious and fresh. Pad si ew had plenty of veggies and super yummy. I definitely will be coming back to support this restaurant and you should too!

Paste Thai in Davis is a must try. The eggplant beef was perfectly tender with a rich, flavorful sauce, the fried tofu had a nice crispy exterior while being soft inside, and the deserts were delicious. Overall, a great place for authentic Thai cuisine and great service. Thanks! Anthonyxibarrax

Pad thai with chicken (lunch)
Michelle L.

Weekday lunch with an old Davis colleague. I got the Pad Thai with Chicken, and a Thai Iced Tea. They got the Pad Se Ew with Tofu. When the food came out, their dish had chicken instead of tofu so the waitress took it back and the kitchen remade it, which cost us some time. There seemed to be only one waitress taking care of all of the tables, though. Usually, I would go for shrimp in the pad Thai, but it does seem pricier here. The lunch portion was pretty big, no/mild spice, and the Thai iced tea was good (no refills). Since our entree was delayed, we didn't have any more time on lunch break to get dessert or anything. If I'm ever back in Davis, I might consider coming back to Paste. Next time I will try the Thai green milk tea another reviewer here mentioned, I have only ever seen it at one other place so far (Manaao in West Sacramento). Located in the same plaza as Huku, Guadalajara, and Nugget.

Shrimp pineapple fried rice. I love how they add raisins to this dish!

My usual order at any Thai restaurant is pad thai or pad see ew, and they nailed it every time. The portions are huge and the prices are excellent and they definitely don't skimp. The vibe is very much a casual cantina: metal chairs, wooden tables, and an olive-green color palette throughout the interior. It feels lively and relaxed, perfect for a quick meal with friends between classes. - Pad Thai -- classic chicken pad thai topped with chopped peanuts and lime for extra zest; huge portion with a great balance of sweet and savory flavors; they also go pretty hard on the Thai spice if you ask for it - Thai Iced Tea -- cool, refreshing, and not overly sweet, with that classic amber color topped with condensed milk Service is always friendly and welcoming. The place can get pretty bustling, especially during weekend lunches, but that's part of the classic college-town cantina atmosphere. We were usually able to find a table, though you might have to wait a bit during peak hours since Thai Canteen is a must-try spot in downtown Davis!

I also tried the duck fried rice one time, but I made the mistake of ordering it way too spicy and ended up not being able to finish it. Honestly, that was on me, and I think if I adjusted the spice level, it would have been really good. I also ordered the mango sticky rice, which I was excited about because I have had it at many different places. Unfortunately, the mango was not very sweet, and when I mentioned that something felt off, the response I got made me feel a bit dismissed, like I did not understand the dish. That part of the experience was frustrating. In general, the service was not the kindest during that visit, which affected my overall impression. That being said, the food itself has good flavor, and ordering to go might be a better option if you want to avoid that kind of interaction. It has been a few months since I have been back, so I cannot say if the staff or experience has improved. Overall, it is a place with good food, but the service side of things could definitely be better.

Instead, our experience was ruined by the owner, Gordon Langstaff, and his completely inappropriate behavior around a small child. My son, who is three and on the autism spectrum, briefly picked up a loose electrical cord that was lying on the ground under the patio stairs (I have a photo of how exposed it was). Instead of calmly addressing the situation, Gordon walked over in a rude, irritated tone and said, "Can you do something?" I told him I was already handling it and redirecting my son, but as he walked away he started cursing under his breath, using foul language that was clearly audible right next to my child. There is no excuse for swearing like that in front of a three‑year‑old, especially when the unsafe cord was left out in the open by the restaurant in the first place. Whether or not my son is autistic, families should never be subjected to hostility and foul language from the owner of a restaurant. If you offer outdoor seating and leave cords and other hazards accessible, you should expect children to be curious and respond with basic courtesy, not anger. The food itself was mediocre, and after that interaction it honestly didn't matter. This was supposed to be a special birthday outing, and his attitude and language completely ruined it.

Can't believe it took me this long to write a review for My Burma. Long overdue. The food is excellent and I keep coming back. A few dishes worth calling out specifically: the Tea Leaf Salad, Sesame Chicken, Coconut Rice, and the Pad Thai. Haven't been able to get to anything else on return trips. One note if you're a heat seeker -- the Pad Thai doesn't get very spicy, even when requested. I like extreme heat, so factor that in accordingly. Most people will find it perfectly seasoned. On my last visit I tried the black rice pudding with ice cream. Don't skip it if dessert is on your radar. Dogs are welcome on the patio, which is a great perk. One thing to be aware of: the gate can be a little tricky to navigate -- something to keep in mind if you or anyone in your group has mobility challenges. My Burma has my business. Highly recommend.

My kid mentioned they usually are very pack and people would dine outdoor, but I guess we arrived early so there wasn't any wait time. Ordered few items, food came out very fast and the tastes are not bad at all. Beef Fried Rice Noodles: How do you differentiate if this dish is good or not, it is about how much excessive oil that's left on the plate. The stir fried was good, not too greasy, and they marinate the meat well. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, this place's meat was good. Only they could stir fried with even higher eat to create more "wok air" Sticky Rice Stick with Brown Sugar: First time trying this dish, so not sure what to expect. But it does seem to be a dessert to me, my comment would be higher if the rice stick is more chewy. Hot & Sour Shredded Potato: This is common dish from northern part of China. The way they prepared was awesome. The potato was not starchy and the seasoning is just right. A bit greasy but this is actually my favorite dish! Shrimp and Pork with Chives Dumplings: Meat is fresh and dumpling wrap is great too. Each dumpling size is not too big and wasn't torn. Taste is okay but maybe try another filling if I visit again. I would come again to try out other things on the menu if I'm visiting my kid again.

The ambience is nice and gives you that date night with a hole in the wall vibe where you know the food is GONE BE FIRE! We ordered the Tom Kha with added chicken and this was hands down the BEST Tom kha I have EVER had! Soooo goood and they weren't stingy with protein either! Chicken avocado curry was so flavorful and like the curry slurry was a little thick than runny! Seasoned so good and the generous portion of avocado. Cream cheese rangoons spoke for themselves along with chicken egg rolls! Everything came out soooooo gooood! This will NOT BE MY LAST TIME HERE! I will make the drive from South Sacramento, if I am ever craving Tom Kha or just good ol home cooked Thai food! You must eat here at least ONCE in yo lifetime! Especially when living or visiting Woodland!
