I live New Orleans and have only eaten pho in Houston one other time; it was not memorable. So when I came here, I wasn't expecting to be wowed. This was a damn good bowl of pho. They also have macaroons! I got a small pho and a macaroon for $10. read more

COVID-19 Update: The first thing you smell is bleach when you walk in and EVERYONE is wearing a face mask. They are taking every precaution and I would argue are one of the safer options. That aside, I always get the Grilled Shrimp Spring Rolls and their Large Chicken pho. It's delicious. Furthermore, it's obviously a small, family owned business. Nice people, good food, and they are taking every possible precaution to keep their guests safe! (Pretty standard Pho prices, btw. 2 large chicken pho and the grilled shrimp rolls cost me just under $30 - but don't forget the tip! They deserve it!) read more

This was the location of my favorite Japanese restaurant, since it closed I've been avoiding the area. But it's weekend and I need the early pho fix. The pho here is the salty variety like Pho Binh. It's neither very rich in beef bone broth, or saturated with veggies and spices. Which really falls out of the type of pho I've become fascinated with. read more

Pho One - The Combo - Vietnamese Near Me - Houston, Texas

Still my favorite pho place in Houston. Here's the deal. It's in a random Westheimer strip center. It's not fancy. It's not expensive. The owner is your waiter. His wife and Mom cook your food. The pho broth is light and low sodium. You can get some that is heavier and thicker at other places. And if that's what you like, go for it. They cook the broth for their different phos separate. So you get chicken broth with your chicken and beef with your beef. To me it makes all the difference. Loaded with large real chicken white meat, I get the chicken pho everytime. Trust me, the regular size is plenty for the average eater. I often have to take some of it home. I can't imagine trying to eat their large bowl. I am positive this soup will cure the common cold. Tender noodles and all your pho fixin's included. If you get it to go they will put all the components in different containers. You put it together when you get home. Sodas served individually in cans. So not free refills. I love their thia tea because it's the basic tea, milk and sugar. They don't add all the fancy spices to it some places do. That's all I get here. The chicken pho. To me it's the best in town for a good price. read more

What a major disappointment. After reading about what a great place this would be for pho, I had major expectations. Again, I was greatly disappointed. To start with, the service was terrible. The waiter was not helpful in the slightest--forgetting our table for chunks of time and not even following through with the smallest requests ("extra napkins, please" resulted in 3 napkins for our table of 5). We started with Vietnamese eggrolls and spring rolls. The spring rolls were servicable, but nothing special. The VN eggrolls did not come with the usual sides of lettuce and goodies. That disappointment was counter-balanced by the expectation for the pho. The pho was bland. No other word for it. Bland. Even after I doctored it up, I kept wondering if it was me--The Houston Press can't be this wrong. But sadly, I wasn't wrong. I would put Pho One in the bottom 1/2 of all pho that I've had. The meat was chewy and they were stingy with the condiments for the pho. Quite simply, it wasn't worth the effort to get there for a quick lunch. C'mon Press. We need a new pho champion for 2012. read more

A little hard to find - hidden behind a gas station at NW corner of Westheimer and Wilcrest. Small, clean, and quick. Food is VERY good from spring rolls to pho to vermicelli to sandwiches. Reasonably priced. Give them a try! read more

Pretty good Vietnamese food that's just minutes from work. While my office isn't that far from Bellaire, this place is even closer. The pho is pretty good and the bun (vermicelli bowls) are pretty good! The bun is a pretty big sized bowl! During COVID, they segregated the restaurant to force people to flow in one direction via a long row of tables and spread you out pretty well from others if you're dining in. If you're ordering take out then your food will be packaged and set on that long row of table for pick-up. All the condiments are removed from the table so you will have to ask for anything you need and the utensils come in a plastic individual bag. read more

I've been trying to experience new food everywhere I go, especially in Houston since it's a diverse community. I was with a group and we all decided to go here one night to try some good pho with meat and all the other good stuff. It's not a very big restaurant, and is located in a little strip center. However, don't be fooled by the small size; stick around and you'll see why I'm telling you to try this place. There are several choices for appetizers here, and I usually get spring rolls. They are a healthy choice for a starter, wrapped in an edible paper. I like the way the spinach and meat taste with the roll because it doesn't really celebrate excessively. Just a nice little pre-meal thing to get people going. There are vegetarian rolls, egg rolls, and other nice appetizers to have before the pho soup. I ordered the brisket pho. The broth was delicious, the noodles were a perfect texture, but the meat was a little over cooked. I did however enjoy the way the broth tasted with the noodles. There are many ways to eat pho, including with chopsticks if you like a challenge. However, I was basic and used those fancy spoons and a fork. Overall, this pho was good with one small flaw. But next time I go I will try another flavor. If you want to come with a group for dinner to have some good soup, come here. It may look small inside and out, but the staff is friendly, and the food is always good whenever I come back. Tons of options, and some good pho makes one decent dinner. read more

This place is has an easy going atmosphere. I usually grab the large Pho bowl with everything except meatballs. Something about the broth make it very tasty and has you going bite after bite. The food always tastes fresh and it is usually fast to come out of the doors. If I'm not mistaken, it is run by a local couple. They are very sweet and inviting so that's always a plus when you want to be friendly. Try the coconut drink without ice. read more

Pho One - Very delicious and healthy for the heart! - Vietnamese Near Me - Houston, Texas

Please don't bother to try them! Okay even though they were known to have the best pho in town (My family and I were super hungry; big mistake!) Just ordered 2 large combo pho (#7), Thai tea, cafe suda, apple juice (for my 3 year old boy), 1 BBQ pork rice plate. The total was $40!!!! Ridiculous! Pho tasted not bad ... but the large size bowls seemed small!!!! $9.95 per bowl. Crazy. Not much meat. Cafe suda was very bitter and small. ($3.95 was absolutely overpriced.) Thai tea tasted like sweet water ($3). Stupid rice plate barely had any pork in it. Sigh. $7.95. Oh well ... that's it. We will just stick with Tau Bay on 59 and beechnut. Their food 2000% tastier than this place. I wish I can get my money back .... We ended up eating pizza at home ... the meal didn't fill us up. read more

One of my favorite pho places. It's a humble mom and pop pho shop with friendly staff. I always get the veg soup and add noodles. Friends have tried the beef pho and have liked that as well. The pho flavor is on the lighter side for me but I think it's because there's less sodium in the broth. I don't leave Pho One as bloated as I do other pho places because of all the salt they add in their soup. Their spring rolls are good as well and I love the peanut sauce. read more

This place is faaaaaaaaaaar from Sugar Land. It takes a good 30-40 minutes and 45 stop lights to get there. They seem to be the only place around with vegetarian broth (having called in advance to confirm). Started with the beef and vegetarian spring rolls. They were tasty, but pretty chewy. While taking our order, a family member asked for vegetarian broth and only shrimp instead of the seafood combo. The waiter responded with, "We don't do that because only putting shrimp in the broth is expensive." I get that a combo is probably cheaper for them to make, but we would have been happy to pay the price for shrimp. I ordered the vegetarian pho. The broth was decently flavorful, but not the best ever (worth the trek out? Probably not). I really liked how they had a variety of vegetables included, even cabbage. Others ordered the chicken pho and commented the broth was actually beef instead of chicken. womp. Overall a good experience. Even though we finished a little after closing, they didn't scoot us out and even asked if we'd like dessert, which was nice. This little shop is cute. If it was closer I may consider coming back, but it may be too far for me to venture out for a neutral experience. This is, however, your go to place for vegetarian broth! read more

This place is average at best, nothing special that I couldn't get anywhere else. The older man that has taken my to-go orders is polite, but sometimes it can be difficult to communicate with him, he seems to speak limited English. I have yet to dine in, the seldom times I have ordered have been for pickup. The prices are a bit steep for what you get; I was shocked to be paying almost $5 for a Bánh Mì sandwich. I guess you pay for convenience since it's closer than the other local Bellaire area Vietnamese restaurants. Also, they have a $10 minimum credit card charge which kind of sucks if your meal is less, so make sure you have cash with you. read more

I absolutely love this place. If I worked here I would most likely come here once a week. Its pretty hard to find as it's tucked into the edge of a shopping center on Wilcrest. However, the experience is just great and not something you would expect from a small mom and pop place in the middle of busy westchase. 1) The People: no idea if they were the owners or not but they are just extremely nice. As a family owned place, they run it like it's their home. Kids sometimes running around and regulars are just happy and smiling. That's a great ambiance when you want to enjoy a nice lunch. The inside is also fairly modern for a small place. 2) The Food: I was in a soupy mood so I ordered Bo Kho, with a nice french bread on the side. My friend had a grilled meat w/ rice platter. Both dishes were amazing and filled with incredible flavor. My bread was amazingly soft and crunched nicely (mark of good bread). All in all, 5/5 on the food, it was fantastic. 3) The Prices: Here's where I was having a bit of trouble. The prices were a few dollars more than what you would normally find in a restaurant of this type. My bill was almost $30 for a simple lunch for 2, which I feel is a bit overboard. I didn't mind because I had a great experience, but it does bug me. Overall, if you are in the area give this place a shot. It's pretty awesome! read more

I really do not know why I even bother eating at this restaurant. The pho here really should not even be called this. The pho broth is severely lacking in seasonings, aromatics, and most importantly the beef broth. What you get is a tasteless broth. The restaurant is family run and they offer great service and you can tell they maintain the cleanliness of the place. But I did not appreciate the father trying to up sell me the menu. The prices are also a little steep for it being a noodle restaurant. Look else where Yelpers for pho, I would not waste your hard earned money here. read more

This was my first time eating at Pho One, I got the BM 2 and P 2 on their menu. The BM 2 was very yummy and not too filling so I would recommend getting something in addition if you order a sandwich. I also enjoyed the P 2, it had very nice flavor. The person I ate with did complain that the soup did not have enough meat so depending on who you are you may want to ask for extra meat. It was not too busy when we went at 11:30 and the service was good. All the staff were wearing masks and they request that you wear a mask when you enter the restaurant. The place is a little small so if you are worried about COVID I would either come early to eat or order to go! I had a pleasant time eating at Pho One. read more

Its funny how for the places I frequent, it never crosses my mind to Yelp them.... The Banh Mi artisans at Pho One craft amazing sandwiches that delight the senses. The tofu banh mi is divine; the bread fresh and crusty, the vegetables crisp; the tofu lightly fried and still warm... its fantastic. The price is thrilling in lean times like these- the tofu is around $3 and other fillings (pork, shrimp, beef, etc) near $4-5. The sandwich is large and filling and even the hungriest of appetites find it sating. The vegetarian spring rolls feature the same lightly fried tofu with fresh veggies in a rice paper wrapper and are served with a savory peanut sauce. The sauce is so good that I had to fight back urges to eat it with a spoon... You get an order of 4 large rolls for about $6 The bun is great but not really different or any more special than bun at any other Vietnamese restaurant. I have not yet tried the Pho, but they won the Houston Press 2009 Best Of Pho! Service is amazingly fast and very friendly, but what really thrilled me was the cleanliness of the store- call me crazy, but if you have a spotless floor, you have my heart! read more

I should have read a deeper into the reviews, the Pho was terrible. I have visited this location once before and didn't like the pho, but I decided to give it another chance, since I had business to attend to in the local area, that was a mistake. Upon arrival myself and my best friend were greeted, and left to find our own seat. We seated ourselves and I ordered the regular size bowl of pho gua, and my friend order a ban mi, and pho in the large, with a side of egg rolls and 5 macaroons. We also had 2 Thai Teas. Everything was ok until the pho came out. Firstly....the "regular" size bowl is really a Small, and the large is really a regular size. I've eaten at many pho places, and these bowls are on the small side. Next and most importantly, the broth.....it was clear....like pale, pale chicken soup, with almost non of the yummy pho beef flavor that you would expect. This was a HUGE let down. I tasted the broth and was disappointed enough to not even eat any of the soup! To add insult to injury, I had 6 pieces of meat in my bowl :( , sadly floating on top. I drank the tea, and waited on my friend to finish her food. She ate the sandwich and tasted one macaroon. The sandwich was passable at best, and the macaroons were stale (which upon questioning the owner, he claimed they are freshly made daily, I suspect that's a lie). When she got to her soup, she confirmed and echoed my feelings of dissapointment, but tried "fixing" the soup with the condiments on the table to no avail. As a huge lover of soup, my one rule is that I should not have to "fix" it when it comes out. Condiments are to add a little, little something extra, but the base soup that you receive should be delicious on its own. After all this, I alerted the owner/server/counter person, and kindly told him about my issue with my soup, I also asked him to comp, or discount the price because I didn't eat it, AND it was obviously bad. He began to loudly exclaim that his soup had been votes the best of the best and pointed to a news paper clipping and magazine.... and he told me that next time I should order the rice dish, and not soup......as if there WILL be a next time. Btw....he didn't bother to come from behind the counter when I motioned to him at the table...so this convo happened loudly across from counter to table, until I got up to go to him.....how rude! It's not like the place was packed.....there was two other customers there.....I tried explaining to him again, and he told me that I must not know pho, because that's the way it is supposed to taste. I explained that I have indeed eaten at many different pho shops, and they all had pho that was along similar lines....he adamantly denied this, and told me to pay for the price of the pho and drink. I'm very dissapointed in the pho here and also with the owners attitude. When I told him that I would not return, he shrugged his shoulder and said "ok, fine". I guess customer don't matter unless they like the food or silently pay and go away. He cannot take criticism well, and dosent value his customers. How sad read more

The pho here is excellent, not super overpowering with too many added flavors and spices... the natural beef broth should speak for itself - as it well does. No MSG here, my husband noticed right away since his mouth get a tingly sensation with too much msg like a lot of pho places tend to have (super weird and not cool). I was very impressed. **Huge side note** They sell the most delicious flavor-packed macarons I've ever had - and such unique flavors!! Who would have guess it! A total hole-in-the-wall cute little restaurant selling delicate macarons with flavors like Durian, Mango, Coconut, Mint, Banana etc... I think there are a total of 20 flavors?! Seriously. And even the usual flavors like pistachio and green tea are awesomely packed with its distinct flavor. And believe me we can judge macarons, as my family comes from Paris and we have been sorely disappointed in the past by places like Sweet and La Patisserie. And at $1.50 each, its the best deal I've seen to boot. We will definitely be back again and again. read more

My boyfriend and I have been coming here over the past couple of years. it is close and in the neighborhood. The pho is not so much great, as it is satisfying when you are craving pho and do not have time to make it yourself :/ What is great is the grilled lemongrass beef spring rolls! I cannot eat too many of these!!! When i want a spring roll fix, i will order the banh hoi (steams rice vermicelli) with grilled shrimp skewers and beef and make my own rolls :) yummy in the tummy!!! Of course, my visit is not complete without one of their vietnamese iced coffees (without the milk for me). The price is good. The owner is super friendly and service is always excellent :) that is saying ALOT for an asian eatery! read more

Although Pho One is located just three miles away from Chinatown (which has the highest concentration of Asian food in Houston), its Westheimer location allows it to cater mostly to the business lunch crowd, for whom it's carved out a niche with great pho and vermicelli. With that said, you certainly won't have any fears about being the only non-Asian person here; but even if it were in Chinatown, Pho One would still be one of the best places for bun thit nuong. The menu at Pho One is pretty simple, with choices for pho, vermicelli noodle dishes, and rice dishes, with a few sandwiches thrown in. I've stuck mostly to the vermicelli dishes here, the best of which is undoubtedly the bun thit nuong cha gio, which includes chargrilled meat with a fried egg roll, along with noodles and vegetables. What makes or breaks this dish is how they chargrill the meat, and Pho One succeeds where many others do not, presenting perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked pieces of pork in your dish. In the end, I wouldn't drive to Pho One if I weren't already in the area, but in its vicinity, this is one of the best lunch options by a good margin. read more

I order a marinated chicken Bun Mi sandwich. How disappointing. The meat is like sliced chicken deli meat. There was more bread on this sandwich then actual stuffing. Not a good first impression and will not go back. read more

Great neighborhood spot! Good for lunch or a quiet dinner. I've been to tons of Pho places in Houston and I've tried many peoples fav spots and I still always come back to Pho One when I have a craving. I think their broth is top notch and I love their peanut sauce. If you start to come here alot the family that runs this place will become like a friend. They are always so accommodating and welcoming. I miss the neighborhood friendliness I get when I used to frequent this place. Cheap food, good service and pretty delicious. The spring rolls were only ok and a bit pricey (4 for $6.50). The grilled pork banh mi was pretty good especially the bread. This is one of the best family owned places! The food is amazing and always fresh and hot! The staff is so extremely nice and helpful! It's ran by a dad and his two sons with the occasional mom popping in to help out. It's a nice family owned establishment that deserves the recognition it deserves! The CM4 is my go to and always amazing! Their house sauce is addicting! Don't forget to try the egg rolls! So crispy and extremely hot from cooking when they bring it out so be careful! They have very good Pho as well! Perfect for when it's cold or you just need a nice warm bowl for whenever. They also sell macaroons at the front which are delicious! 10/10 recommend not just for the food, but for the family as well! read more

Worst ever experience in my life! Filthy and dirty! They barely speak English and the lack of customer service really makes you wonder how can this place still on business. This little family run place is a hidden gem. It's tucked away in a strip center at Westheimer and Wilcrest (right next to Bistro le Cep) and is never terribly crowded. It's our go-to spot when we're feeling too lazy to make a trip to Milam for pho and bahn mi. The pho here is solid, but it's not the best I've had. I've noticed that they are more generous with certain types of beef than others. Overall, it hits the spot and will satisfy your pho craving. The bahn mi, on the other hand, are absolutely fantastic! The bread is fresh and toasted just right, and the fillings are delicious. I recommend the grilled pork or lemongrass beef. (Yes, I'm a meat lovin' girl!) You can also get other traditional tasty Vietnamese fare like bun (vermicelli) and com da (crushed rice platter) here, as well as an array of tasty appetizers, mostly in roll form. My sweetie can't get enough of the spring rolls with lemongrass beef. They also serve Thai Tea and Vietnamese Coffee, but I can't comment on them since I'm not big on the syrupy sweetness of either one. All in all, this place is casual, clean, friendly, and inexpensive with a great selection of basic Vietnamese cuisine. In my opinion, it's good enough for weekly visits - especially for the sandwiches. If you're on the West side of town, I recommend giving it a go! read more

I can't say the food was bad but I was disappointed with my meal overall. I ordered a 1/2 order of the lemon grass beef spring rolls and BBQ pork sandwich. Usually more than a guy needs to eat. TOt First thing that caught my eye was the prices were much more than other Vietnamese places. 6.95 for a full order of spring rolls and 4.50 for a BBQ sandwich seemed about 25% more than your average place. I figured no big deal and the food would be great. Then when the guy handed me my bag I knew I would be unhappy. It was like he handed me a bag of cotton balls. I knew i would be hungry after I finished. The spring rolls were not bad. However they should be bigger than the tiny to go container. These fit in perfectly. They were basically the size of traditional Vietnamese egg rolls. Then my sandwich had very little meat in it, Also it wasn't the dark brown charred BBQ pork I was expecting. Did the food gross me out... no. it tasted fine. I just no I have had better. Better portions, better pricing, better food. Maybe there was a new cook because all the other reviews say how much meet peopel got with their meals. Who knows? If someone really wanted to eat there I would. If I was picking the place I would find elsewhere to go. read more

First and last time at this place. Ordered the Pho Tai. Broth is very clear and lacked depth and flavor. Meat wasn't anything special and pretty tough. Portion was on par, but price was a little higher than I expected. Requested some Nc beo and was give a very very small amount without the green onions and appeared to be just oil. Didn't do anything to help the flavor of the pho. Lastly I asked for sate and they didn't have any. Service was whatever, but on par with most Vietnamese places. Like I said...wouldn't go back and would t recommend them for pho. They may have other items that are decent but with the name Pho One, I was hoping for a solid bowl of pho. read more

Very good customer services! The vietnamese sandwiches are great! So good I ordered pho to go. My main complaint with sandwiches around Houston is that restaurants tend to have very hard crusty bread that makes my mouth hurt and I fear bleeding , but this place is good and the bread fairly soft. The staff was very attentive. When they brought our coffee out, they made it very interactive and we were able to stir the thick milk and add our ice. The coffee was tasty! Overall this little place is cute and a must try :) read more

I don't like eating Pho at restaurants because of the way the broth is made. For instance, Tan Tan has some strong garlic after taste that I can't get rid of. This place was less than 5 minutes away and though I could of gone to Bellaire, I decided to just go down the road since I live off Westheimer. I came in with open arms. The people are so friendly and nice. I ordered my first bowl of Pho and it was so light and smooth. I was amazed how great it tasted. Also, the jalapeno peppers that came with it were not too spicy, but just right. I also ordered the Bo Luc Lac as well and it came with a great presentation. There was an egg on top of the rice with the meat sautéed and a brown sauce next to it. As for dessert, I took flan to go and it was just as delicious. Sweet, coffee flavor. The food here was amazing and I will definitely be coming back for more. read more

I will never get tired of coming back to this place. Their beef stew is the best! It's served with the following options: noodles, rice or bread. I am not a bread person, but their crunchy-on-the outside, soft-on-the inside bread gave me that reason to love it. I would also recommend their egg rolls and sandwiches. My son had a pork rice meal today. The pork was seasoned and cooked right- tender, sweet and savory. The dipping sauce is so yummm- I'm guessing it's vinegar, fish sauce with sugar. Sooooo good. It was so good, my son poured everything over the pork and rice. Yeah, it was that good! You will expect a mature gentleman who will greet you by the door. He's one of the reasons why I keep coming back- it's that warm welcome and excellent service that he gives every time. My son loves restos that are clean and hygienic - so this is one place he's okay to dine in at. A hundred stars for you! read more

Great Pho in West Houston. Get the Pho Tai. Get the spring rolls. Thank me later. Prices are cheap, broth is dericious, decorations are non-existent and sometimes so is the server. Zing! It's not her fault though, she was babysitting her kid on the other side of the bar. I think it's a family business, and its right on Westheimer so I didn't have to go far from home. This is hands down the best pho I've ever had, period(.) Not only was I fortunate enough to taste a considerable amount of pho broth and noodles over here AND from Vietnam. Plus my grandma used to own a pho restaurant in Vietnam (she's no longer with us), so I think I know a thing or two about what to expect when it comes to pho. The broth here is very light and full of flavors, a very unique flavor that I haven't discovered from other pho places. Noodles are just noodles so I'll pass on that. But the ingredients that are being used in the pho are very fresh (I get headache if I eat MSG food and no problem here) I especially like the pho tai with Bo vien with a lot of Jalapeño peppers in the broth! Mhmmmm I haven't been here enough to try the whole entire menu but the spring rolls for appetizer is great and com bo luc lac (shaking beef with rice) is awesome as well! I'll be back soon enough to try other items on the menu but every time I visit I end up getting my pho Bo tai anyways... Boo Hopefully I'll be tempted enough to try something new next time! read more

When I lived in Houston I would come here 4-5 times a week. Their pho is excellent, and I rank them in the top two. Where they really shine is the banh mi ga nuong. The mayonnaise they use is French style, and the bread itself is done perfectly. It's not too hard and dry, and holds all of the fresh ingredients well. Also, their selection of beverages would not be uncommon on the streets of Vietnam or Paris. I love coming here, and this family run business makes me feel welcome every time. BTW, if you're French speaking, the owners and their sons are fluent. read more
