I have been ordering from Feng Ling for years and can confirm they are currently better than ever. The food is fresh and they use good ingredients that don't leave you feeling bloated or heavy afterwards. I highly recommend trying their hand rolled dumplings. The steamed vegetable dumplings are my favorite. Standout dishes for me include the beef, chicken and shrimp Mongolian style as well as the sesame chicken. The green beans with ground pork is also extremely fresh and recommended. They provide a very generous happy hour from 4-7 as part of the beer and wine menu. They also offer hot and cold sake. The remodel is much more welcoming. I would encourage guests to dine in and experience the clean ambiance and welcoming staff. Feng Ling is a true hidden gem. Their menu is buried. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken with Hot snd Sour soup. Service was amazingly fast. The soup was perfection. Just enough hot just enough sour. The entrée was delivered before I got finished with the suit and again it was so amazing. Chicken was white meat and nicely cooked. The sauce was plenty but not overly done and the rice was the exact texture it should be. I returned a couple of days later and tried the Mongolian beef and it also was superb. Tell you the truth, I have never been to Feng Ling Restaurant 楓林中餐館 before. Back in 2015 and 2016, I promoted it during Time for Taiwan Restaurant Month. I waited until now to visit because I couldn't find it. I saw the sign at the street corner by Walgreens. I had no idea it's in the same building with 2nd Debut Furniture store. So, today on Good Friday, I was dodging from the heavy rain and broken traffic lights on Westheimer. I decided to grab something to eat at this strip center. I browsed all the little restaurants and... eh? Feng Ling Restaurant is right in the middle. Ok, let me give them a try. My first impression was... huge dining room and there are a couple of round tables with Lazy Susy. It appeared that they kept the same layout from the 6-foot distance CoVid dining style. Furniture was not impressive but the giant painting with mural were top of the line. I believe people love to party here with that authentic decoration. One thing I had an issue was the menu. It's all in English. That just means it caters to Americans who like Chinese food. I saw an item very interesting. I asked the waiter to pronounce DoLou Noodles in Chinese for me. (Thank goodness, please don't do me.) That is actually Da Lu Mien 大鲁麺 - thick noodles with pork strips and vegetables in thick soup. It's actually my favorite when I lived in Taiwan. This is a review of the service, not the food. A friend and I used to go there regularly in the evening but the last few visits have been disappointing. A few weeks back the waiter said they were out of hot and sour soup. Then a large table of people came in, ordered the hot and sour soup and got it. Should have quit at that point but returned a couple of weeks later. The waiter brought out my meal promptly but my friend's food didn't arrive for another ten+ minutes. No explanation from said waiter. Asked for a water refill, no dice He seems very preoccupied with his phone and I'm not sure if there's a language barrier, but whatever he comes off as rude and indifferent Before this guy showed up, the service had been good. I travel and frequently order food to be delivered. The online ordering process was easy, and the food was decent. Then there was the driver... he called me repeatedly to ask how to get to my building (the online process gets your address and room number), I paid the tip on the front end... I wish I hadn't, I was met by a delivery guy who put his foot in my door to stop it from closing in order to tell me he needed a tip in cash. I wouldn't order delivery from this location. read more

It's mainly Americanized Chinese food but you can find some gems hidden away on the menu. I waited until now to visit because I couldn't find it before. This was my first visit to Feng Ling, because it is at the street corner of Wilcrest Drive and Westheimer. The decor is inviting with adequate seating in booths or tables. I opted for the bar service since i was dining alone. This way I figured I wouldn't have to wait. I ordered the cashew chicken and fried rice. The chicken was delicious, however, the egg fried rice was bland and lacked flavor. What surprised me was that the server warmed up and the person working behind the bar went from neutral to friendly. Even the man (I presume was the owner) held a conversation with me. On the downside, my credit card was not returned to me immediately with the receipt. It worked out to have a happy ending. I hope you have a happy experience too. read more

Tasty Chinese food at a decent price. Order taker was very nice, repeated the order and was helpful with suggestions. We ordered delivery for dinner. No minimum for orders, so that's a plus. We tried the chicken lettuce wraps, sesame chicken with steamed rice, eggdrop soup and spring rolls. Everything was good and the portions were large enough to split, plus we had leftovers. The chicken lettuce wraps were great with lots of red bell pepper and a good crunch. The eggdrop soup was standard, but good. Same with the spring rolls. I really liked the sesame chicken. The meat was flavorful and tender. The sauce was tasty! It had a good tang to it, lots of sesame seeds and there was enough sauce to drizzle over the rice. They give you a container of clear/white dry noodles that have zero taste alone, but really make a nice topper. I guess it's the crunch factor. I would like to know why Chinese restaurants have stopped serving lemon chicken. It's like it ceases to exist anywhere! I would suggest bringing that dish back. We would order a lot more often. Feng Ling never disappoints! The food and service has always been exceptional no matter if at lunch or dinner. We had a large group and never felt rushed to clear the table. Ambiance is good and place is pleasant enough. It was quite empty when I pick up my food around 3:30 P.M. Chicken wings were fried to perfection but bland. Sweet & sour chicken was meh--they were crisp fried but the dough was still raw on some of them; and the sweet and sour sauce is bland. The egg fried rice lacked flavor and the fries were soggy. We use to eat at the location at Winrock and Westhiemer, until they abruptly closed. Eating at this location (Westchase) has not been as pleasurable. We find the food varies too much almost like there are 2 cooks and you never know which you will get: Good Cook or Bad Cook! We order a particular chicken dish and the last 4 visits, it has been cook differently sauce wise. We ordered this dish the other day and they clearly made it with pork, very strange! Not sure if it was a mistake or they ran out of chicken and they thought we would not notice! We said nothing though, our bad! The staff is always excellent, but for the money they are charging these days the entrees have gotten really small. Hit and miss for us! read more

Feng Ling used to be a favorite. Consistently getting 4 star reviews. It was one if those rare Chinese restaurants where you could actually get unique flavors to each dish. Human was different from Szechuan. Not anymore. A spicy chicken had the same flavor as a happy Family. Terribly disappointing I also ordered steamed vegetable dumplings. They were over salted to the point of being inedible. On a positive note, Feng Ling is one of the few Asian restaurants that offer brown rice. One last thing, if you're really hungry, order somewhere else. Delivery time is exceptionally long. 45 minutes or longer is common. Sadly, Feng Ling has gone from exceptional to average. We had a wonderful gathering here for a our alumni society! Emily, the owner, was incredibly accommodating and thoughtful. She worked hard on creating a menu that feature a range of offerings that a large group would like so there was something for everyone- the adventurous eaters, the eat only what I know eaters, and vegetarians! The lunch menu she offered us was not only delicious but also an incredible value price and quantity wise: Appetizers: Fried Wonton Pork Egg Roll Fried Pork Dumpling Mixed Steam Dumpling (Pork&Veg). We ordered two tofu dishes for delivery. Food was hot/ warm when arrived, which was great! Both Tofu dishes got an excellently soft Tofu. Mapo Tofu was really good! It has a great flavor of pepper but not overpowering. It was great with steam rice. Fang Ling Style Tofu, which might be their signature dish as it has the restaurant's name, was also very good! Not spicy as much as Mapo, and got deep taste. I will definitely reorder! read more

We are one of Feng Ling's oldest customers. Feng Ling's food has been a favorite of ours since the 1980s when we owned a coffee shop (Coffee Mill) next to Feng Ling on Westheimer near Hillcroft. Unfortunately, the quality of their food and their customer service is extremely poor. Last night, we ordered dinner. One of the entrées had been burned and had a strong odor. When we contacted them to request a replacement, they completely refused and became rude in response. After talking for a long time, we became frustrated and hung up. Been ordering from them for years. They've always been consistent. Food consistently good, service consistently terrible. They refuse to sell you items that are on their menu, and always make every order difficult. I used to always get diet beef and vegetables. The server suggested it to me years ago. Every time I order they get confused and act like it's not possible. Today, I tried to order the combo chop suey, which is on the menu and Uber eats. They refused to let me get the lunch combo, telling me that's not what it is. I've been ordering it for 15 years. I rather the whole cost go to the restaurant, so I chose to use their delivery over ubereats. Crispy batter and the serving of fried rice was insane! I basically made 2 meals out of this $8 lunch special. What a steal. Felt like the hot and sour soup and fried rice was meant for people like me who don't like vegetables. There was none in the rice and barely any in the soup so that's a win to me :) We basically came to try this restaurant out because it was on AMEX rewards and close to our shopping errands.
