Sad to say, I've been eating here since the early 80s, and its now a shell of what it once was. The service: Service was never a great characteristic of this place, but the waitress that helped us this last time was apathetic and her attitude was terrible. She was eating pistachios when we walked in and the young cashier (whos always friendly) had to get her attention to seat us. Once we were seated, she handed us menus and immediately asked if we were ready to order. LOL no. Drinks were not refilled and the appetizer that we ordered showed up LAST. After all the main dishes were served. We used to get pickled cabbage and peanuts when we were seated, those were no longer being served either. Asking for things like straws, chopsticks, etc was hard to do since nobody ever came by. The food: Pan fried Chinese bacon is a must try, but this time the dish hardly had ANY pan fried bacon, and what was in there was a poor excuse for it. No smoky flavor, lots of fat and gristle. What is this? In fact the dish, like the others we ordered, had more 'filler' vegetables that compensate for the obvious cost cutting. Before this dish had generous amounts of meat. This last time it was all leeks and bamboo. Same with the Chinese eggplant dish, which was once all eggplant. This time it was 80% other veggies, like bell peppers, etc, and very little eggplant. Very disappointing. The General Tso's which said "Steamed" on the menu, came out battered and fried and tossed in sauce. Come on! Sad to see this Westchase gem lose its luster. The new owners need to quit trying to cut corners/costs and get back to the basics, otherwise they're going to close their doors after nearly 4 decades. read more

This is a small Chinese restaurant has excellent lunch specials until 4PM. The portions are plentiful and the prices for lunch range from $7-9 for lunch which includes protein, rice/noodles, soup and an egg roll. The food is consistent and most of their dishes do not contain a lot of MSG or salt. Great place. I love their twice cooked shredded pork - it's very spicy and filling. Some other suggestions - Beef or Chicken noodle (low mein), Hot beef (kind of like the sauces of General Tso's and orange chicken sauce combined) and mongolian chicken. Overall I enjoyed my food here. The chicken lettuce wraps were a little expensive at $17 and instead of the water chestnuts I was hoping for it was like 50% chicken and 50% chopped peppers (not my favorite). The fried chicken wings were huge and pretty good. I had mapo tofu after that which again was just OK, not the best I ever had but not terrible either. The sodas come in cans so no refills (ice tea they do refill). The place is pretty clean including the restrooms. It was quite busy at lunchtime yesterday. Service is very speedy, sometimes too speedy as they will rush away just before you ask something! Overall I'd go back. One of the older Chinese restaurant in Houston that has lasted this long and many years more. Feng Ling has been a stable my get-go Chinese food when I don't feel like cooking after a long day of work. My whole family has been going to this restaurant for a long time where we know the owners as family friends. Now my review of Feng Ling is based on both dining in and take out. Take-out review: It's fast and very good, if you place an order over the phone, they say it's ready in 15 minutes, it's ready in 15 minutes. If you simply just order on site, sometimes they will bring you water while you sit and wait, especially during one of those hot summer days here in Houston. They give me a good amount of white rice depends on how many dishes I order so I can pack the left over for tomorrow's lunch or even tomorrow's dinner. Dine-in review: The service is very good but it sometimes depends on the day you go. There has been days when we went where they just hire a new waitstaff so it may be a bit slow, but I have even attended a wedding banquet there which took up pretty much the whole restaurant, and the food came out in good time to all the tables and waters / tea gets re-filled in good time. Some of my favorite dishes there are Mongolian beef, mapo tofu, and the Peking duck. I also like their shrimp wrap but I could only afford that once a while, just like the duck. Never the less, I guess it's also I've been there for so long and they know my taste, they never make my food too salty or too bland, it has been just right all these time. For Chinese who still lives here in West Houston, please stop by this restaurant and give it a try, you will not be disappointed. I received food by delivery. Heres a run down of the things I ordered, the bbq beef ribs, shrimp fried rice and sesame chicken. The total was around 24 dollars. The portions were large and you could comfortably feed two people and have leftovers. The bbq ribs were okay nothing special. The fried rice I did enjoy the shrimp were cleaned and it was just you're everyday fried rice. Now the sesame chicken was not good I would not order it again that was dry and just not good. Worst Chinese Food ever in my 10 years of US Life!!! Fried Rice - I am still confused if it was stale or was it the flavor since it was consistent with both the combos i got. Just moved to the area and was looking for a good Chinese delivery. Between ordering a delivery it took about 25 minutes, quick and hot! Ordered the Chicken w/ Spicy Garlic Sauce(extra sauce) and the Chicken Lo-Mein. The chicken was hot and tender and the sauce was soooo good. Not super hot, but good flavor and a nice heat. The best item was the Mongolian dish, and the shrimp were surprisingly big for an American Chinese restaurant. All in all, the food here is average quality. This was my first time eating from this restaurant. I deliver for DD and I've picked up food for customers here and it always smells good so I decided to order from them tonight. Let me just first say I will not be giving them anymore of my money. Since the minimum was $15 I ordered 3 items: the egg rolls, Feng Ling chicken, and shrimp fried rice. I didn't get shrimp fried rice, I got COLD FRIED RICE!!! I literally live 3 minutes away from this restaurant, there is no reason why my rice should've been COLD & my chicken WARM. We use hot bags so I'm ASSuming this place does too?!? Yes, temperatures go down but for my rice to be COLD and not WARM like my chicken, we have a problem!!! I tried to call but since I placed my order 37 minutes from business close time (after delivery) they are closed and no one answered. Since I only live 3 minutes away I'm going to pay them a visit tomorrow so I can let them know in person that I was not a satisfied customer. I used to go to the other Feng Leng and order the Mongolian beef and chicken from years and it was great. I tried the same dish with beef and sesame chicken at this location and it was definitely off. Instead of a stir fry dish it was more like a sauce poured on slimy textured meat. Also the beef was really bad with a fishy taste to it as if they used fish sauce to make Mongolian beef...? They need to talk to their chef and make sure they use a better recipe. There are a few times in my life when a meal is so expertly crafted and planned that it is nothing short of genius. Last night, I had one of those meals - Pan fried Chinese bacon. This dish was excellently prepared. Pan fried, sweet, salty, fresh and a hint of sesame oil. A warm medley of meat and vegetables and some spicy peppers I told the waitress to add on. Food is pretty much what you'd expect from a strip center Chinese place, but it's slightly better than average, and the ingredients seem to be higher quality.
