A scrumptious 9-course vegetarian feast, featuring creative and authentic Chinese dishes, marked my wonderful experience with this restaurant. Mushrooms, green vegetables, noodles, lettuce-wraps, and more "exotic" foods that I won't even attempt to describe round out this banquet. Not sure if all the items were on the menu, but if the lead chef is around, he will be happy to make dishes that you want, or surprise you, in a good way! Glancing around, it appears this place also caters to the Americanized Chinese food and seems pretty popular with that regard too. I guess the restaurant is versatile enough to draw groups coming in for "authentic" dishes and for "Chinese-American" dishes. The decor is getting a little dated, but still not bad for a restaurant in a strip mall. And it's not the cheapest Chinese place in town, but not the most expensive either. My wife and I tried Feng Ling for the first time and was impressed with the crab puffs and rolls. It turns out they are made fresh in the kitchen and not frozen like other places. The food taste fresh and the menu has a good variety including the soups. The service was friendly and prompted. The restaurant's atmosphere was good and the eating area was clean. Decent neighborhood Chinese - reliable for a quick Saturday lunch. Friendly service. The food is generally served very hot, and is just as you might expect for an ordinary strip center restaurant. Very inexpensive - typically our lunch will be $15 between the two of us. Usually not too busy, but steady traffic, especially take-out. We've bought two take away dinners from here. The website menu is pretty thorough for what you can get (I'm pretty sure it's the same as in store.) The food was ready pretty quickly, no fuss picking it up. I was amazed at the serving size the first time I came here after being a little reluctant at the price, but two entrees can typically end up being four meals for me (and I usually think I eat a lot!) I've had the BBQ pork fried rice which was average, the pork wasn't anything exceptional but the rice was pretty darn good. Maybe get a different meat, or... The sesame chicken is pretty good to get your Chinese take-away fix from. Pair that with the side serving of fried rice and you'll be set. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!! I would rate zero stars if I could. I asked for "general tso's chicken" and she asked if I wanted the one with the jalapeños. I was confused and she told me, "Traditional general tso's, we call feng ling spicy chicken." So that's what I asked for, instead. They sent me orange chicken. With giant slices of orange peel. Citrus peel in my food makes me gag. Awesome. I also got the "shrimp in garlic sauce." It was supposed to come with shrimp and mushrooms in a garlic sauce (obviously). I got mostly CHICKEN, snow peas, and peppers, with THREE SMALL SHRIMP. For $10.95, really?! The moo shoo (pork) was so incredibly oily and greasy and gross. And the pork? Non-existent. I had CRUNCHY pieces of rice in my fried rice. The best part of my meal: the fortune cookie. The lady I talked to was so ridiculously rude when I first talked to her (see below), that I'm not even going to bother to call and complain. The entirety of my order was either incorrect or inedible. Not to mention it took 65 minutes, not the originally quoted 40. Ugh. This has to be the WORST chinese food ever. Not just in Houston..... in my entire life! I will never order here again. We ordered delivery for lunch at my office. There were 6 people that ordered and 2 of us through our food away after the first few bites. NOBODY ate the soup. It smelled so bad, we immediately closed the containers and threw that away. A few of us attempted to eat just the meat and picked off all of the enourmous amount of breading. We all regret doing that now. We all feel disgusting and like grease is all over us. I took a bite of the cheese puff and grease literally ran down my finger and stained my desk. Plus the sweet and sour sauce is the wrong color. Take my advice and NEVER go there. read more

We've ordered here a couple times now and it's not my favorite. First time I ordered General Tso's Chicken to go and it wasn't the typical General Tso's. I thought they gave me the wrong thing so my husband took it back but they no that was correct. The next time I went in to pick up some wonton soup. It wasn't very clean on the outside or inside. This review is based on a to-go/delivery order. My friend has been raving about this place for months. He's constantly saying, "Feng Ling is soooo good!" Well, fine. I forgot to bring a lunch to work, so I decided to order some Feng Ling. I ordered about 45 minutes earlier than I needed it and asked for it to be delivered at noon. The guy on the phone informed me that they can either hold cooking to time it by noon, or just cook now and send it when it's ready. He said he didn't like holding food. I didn't want to risk having a late lunch so I agreed. It came about 10 minutes before noon. Very fast! I tried their Orange Chicken, with steamed rice, hot and sour soup and some cheese puffs. Here's why I am a fan. Lots of food. There was a ton of pieces of chicken, lots of sauce, and enough rice to eat the amount of chicken in the box. I asked for it to be extra spicy, and it had good heat to it. It wasn't as orangy, but it wasn't too sweet. I liked the taste. I loaded it up with spicy mustard and a little soy sauce. Some pieces of the chicken were a little dry, but I just ignored those. There were so many other pieces to eat that I couldn't really be too upset. The hot and sour soup was good. Nothing too fancy. Bigger pieces of mushroom and they actually have some shredded beef in it. Nice touch. The cheese puffs were SO GOOOOOD. They weren't over cooked, the dough was soft enough to bite into without pieces of fried wonton getting stuck in your back teeth, but hard enough that it wasn't undercooked. Super yum yum. Overall, it's a pretty decent place to get some decent Chinese-American-Whatever take out. I highly recommend the cheese puffs. An appetizer order comes with 8 pieces too. Pig out! read more

My husband and I are new in the area and are trying to find our new go to takeout and this will definitely not be it. It was cold by the time it arrived and I was extremely disappointed by the portion. The white rice tasted plain, just simple white rice which is fair enough. The sesame chicken was decent, but I'm ashamed by how little the quantity was. I would easily eat up the scraps before making a dent on the side of rice. Should add more, especially since its $10. I was unable to eat the soup since it had the consistency of slobber. Usually places make such combos for $7-8 and add an egg roll on top of but this was more expensive and given less. My husband and I have been here about four or five times and every time we come it gets better and better! We've always loved the food and today was no exception. We also noticed they updated their menu and added a variety of new items and appetizers. I highly recommend the scallion pancakes, and if you're feeling a little under the weather, the beef noodle soup did the trick! Ordered delivery on Monday via YELP. I went thru the reviews and because there are not a lot of Chinese places with raving reviews around my house. I decided to try FL, as it had decent reviews, and I'm willing to try anything once. I ordered the shrimp fried rice, the FL Hot Chicken (General Tso), and the fried beef dumplings. Pros: The fried rice had a good amount of medium sized shrimp in it. The hot chicken wasn't all breading and little chicken pieces like how other places make it...The dish had some nice large size chicken chunks. The beef dumplings were GREAT! I loved those, and the sauce was sooo good :-) By far the most favorite out of the things I ordered. Cons: Well.....That fried rice was horridly bland...I put soy sauce and hot pepper oil on it to make it half-way tasty. The wontons were not the usual wonton shape...they were oblong...which was weird (but, even still...they were GREAT) The hot chicken, altho decent portions, the container was full of sauce....almost like a General Tso soup. Additionally - I LIKE MY FOOD SPICY HOT....like - make tip of my nose and my ears sweat - type hot.....So, I asked for extra spicy. I could have given that Tso to a toddler. There was evidence of peppers in the (soup) but the dish itself was not hot - in the least. But, overall the "hot chicken" was pretty decent. This experience was about a 2.5....But, they gave me no eating utensils and two soy sauce packets with all that food...so, 2 stars it is. I'd give them another chance. We're absolutely addicted to the wonderful food at Feng Ling's! We always order Emily's homemade pork dumplings which also come in vegetable and beef. Then we always. order their hot and sour soup and also love their shredded pork with mustard green noodle soup. Every entree is superb as we've tried most of them! With sheltering in place, ordering take out is at least a weekly treat for us and the greatest "comfort food" ever for lovers of Chinese food! The owner, Emily, knows we've become part of her family these days and we get great service whether dining in or through takeout especially with Grace serving! The food was awesome! We had to have been one of the last delivery orders the kitchen cooked for any everything arrived piping hot. Our order included Feng's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and two eggrolls. Everything was delicious and if you are an egg roll fan definitely get these. I ordered the triple delight; very salty. Suggest asking easy on sauce. I also ordered Chicken Corn Soup. I did not see the chicken inside my soup; when asked, the waitress told me there is no meat inside the soup; it was "Chicken Broth Corn Soup". I am not big fan for egg roll but combo comes with egg roll and soup. Since I got the corn soup, I did not touch my "free soup" and egg roll. I am Asian; just because I spoke English to the waitress all the time doesn't mean I don't understand Chinese. I am shock to hear the waitress went to her work station and said: "She asked why no chicken inside the soup! Why ask such question? She did not touch the egg roll, I guess she did not like it. Oh, look, she did not touch the hot and sour soup. I guess she simple just doesn't like our food. Why come here?" I pretending I did not understand her word and kept talking to my boyfriend. Lunch plans canceled last minute, and finding myself driving along Westheimer, I glanced over and whipped my car into the parking lot in front of Feng Ling. It looked like a standard lunch-special Chinese place, and that's exactly what I found. The dimly lit, green carpeted establishment houses an exceedingly efficient wait staff. Or at least my waitress was. Having gone to wash my hands, I returned to find my hot and sour soup waiting for me, and before I had really put a dent in it, my General Tso's chicken came out piping hot. The speed with which I was served might give some people pause*. But the soup was thick and replete with tofu, sprouts and the like, and the chicken, though small, almost diced, when cut into revealed tender white meat. It was tossed with plenty of red peppers and jalapeños, though the fried rice was woefully lacking in egg, peas, carrots or any of the other normal components. Before I had finished, the waitress appeared with my check. I wasn't sure quite what the hurry was; the place wasn't particularly busy. But since I was flying solo I didn't mind. I usually like to get in and out in those situations - I'm a very important person. In the end, Feng Ling serves standard Chinese that works in a pinch.
