I read the reviews and was a little worried. But I had a truly great dining experience when I visited Pho Michael. I was later than expected getting to New Orleans so I was hungry. Once I got settled in, I looked at Yelp for a recommendation to eat. I was near so many great places to dine but Pho Michael won, despite the negative reviews. I was greeted warmly when I entered and allowed to pick where I sat. The feel inside was interesting, as Michael Jackson was playing but the decor reminded me of an Asian restaurant. It was clean though. I ordered a sweet tea which they add a sweetener when you order it. I won't get this again. I ordered the spring rolls with shrimp, which many reviews called them small. These rolls were so big they could almost serve as an entree. They tasted so fresh and the peanut sauce accompanied them well. For my main dish, I ordered the pho with filet mignon. It's one of their popular dishes so I figured it would be okay. When they placed a steaming hot bowl of pho in front of me, I knew I had a made a solid decision. I added a tad of hoisin sauce along with the sprouts, basil and jalapeños. The beef broth was sooooooo good as well. Only regret I had was a smaller portion wasn't offered. I ordered the smallest size available but it was so much. I tried to eat it all but couldn't lol. Service was top notch, as my server and another gentleman checked on me but didn't hover. May be an unpopular opinion, but I wasn't impressed by this pho place. The interior of the restaurant itself was nicely decorated and very clean; service was good. The pho portion was small, and there wasn't much meat. I was hoping for more than a couple slices of filet mignon and a couple small tendon pieces for the price point ($16). The flavor of the broth was great, and the noodles had a good texture. If you're in desperate need of a pho place, I'd say this place fits the bill, but doesn't exceed any expectations. read more

Service needs work. We ordered 4 dishes. The pho with the chopsticks made the noodles taste like bamboo/wood. We asked for forks and they came back with plastic forks. I then asked for silverware and they spoke to each other in Spanish and snickered something under their breaths and heard 'chino'. Disrespectful. $75 dinner served with plastic forks. WTH. Thought this place was a little more upscale than fast food. I still left a smaller tip than usual but they definitely didn't even deserve that much. Not sure who needs to hear this but I was really upset with the food I picked up last night at Pho Michael's. I ordered a large Shrimp Pho to share with my wife for dinner. When I arrived home I started unpacking everything and realized the plastic pho container was only 3/4's full. I ordered a large and paid extra only to find out that we had been shorted pho. Then after starting to prepare pho for each of us I looked for the basil, jalapeño, bean sprouts ect. it was not there. I called to see if it maybe didn't come with the Shrimp Pho but was told that they forgot to include it with my order. To make things even worse I only got one packet of hosin sauce and one packet of Sriracha sauce. I've ordered from Pho Michael's many times before and have never had a bad experience until last night. I guess it was just an off night for your staff. read more

I personally love their Spicy Beef Pho, but on my recent visit I found their Grilled Lemongrass Beef rice plate wonderfully delicious. I need to note that this is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants to offer kids combination Pho and plates! read more

Food was pretty good I had the brisket pho I felt as if the broth could have had a bit more flavor but those WINGS were amazing presentation was nice we all agreed that the sauce that came drizzled on the wings could have been a dipping sauce or more drizzle. We also ordered the crab Rangoon but that was forgotten so we just decided to not worry about getting it any more. I would say the bbq short ribs with the fried rice were really really good If I were to go back I would probably get that. Pho Michael is one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in NOLA. I always recommend this place to others because of its central location to everything, it's in the heart of Metairie with its own parking lot. The menu is large with good options and a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it. I love to order their beef spring rolls, pho dac biet, and bun bo hue. What sets them apart is the choice to add a side of bone marrow to your bowl, which adds more umami and flavor to your bowl. A pho place I tried out because the other place I often go to was closed. The decor is nice and parking is easy. They have a dedicated lot. The portions are okay for the price and the amount of meat you get is probably standard. There's nothing too special about it - the soup was good, the noodles were a bit undercooked that never got cooked after coming out because the soup wasn't too hot. The staff are nice and friendly. DELICIOUSSSSSS. Today was my first time trying this place and I'm so glad I did! I think they have the best pho I've tried so far. I ordered the chicken pho in spicy beef broth. The broth was so bold and flavorful. It meshed perfectly with the slices of chicken. They did not give me a ton of meat, but I'm one of those people who do not need a ton of meat in pho. The crab rangoons are very tasty. The filling is definitely creamy and tastes more like a dip that needs some chips. I'm a fan of these. I really like how they package and wrap to-go orders, too. I've been on a vietnamese kick lately and I didn't feel like cooking on Christmas eve so I went ahead and ordered delivery. This was one of the only places open, all the way in Metairie, but luckily uber eats didn't mind delivering to Uptown. I got the lemongrass tofu rice plate. It was tasty, but I admit I couldn't really taste the lemongrass. Just tasted like regular wok fried tofu. What I really loved was the sauce that came with it. I saved some and used it in salad for a couple days afterward. So fresh and tangy. And they also included extra hoisin like I asked. The price was decent for a rice plate--only $10. Of course it ended up being more because delivery, so I guess takeout is the way to go. read more

By far the best Bun Bo Hue that I have had in New Orleans. We were missing some of my mom's Vietnamese cooking and decided to stop by and try Pho Michael. We ordered the Banh Xeo for our appetizer. The Banh Xeo was crispy, crunchy and generously filled with meat and shrimp! The flavor was not overly coconut, but they could have sliced the meat down a little bit as it was large pieces. Then we had the BBQ Short ribs and Bun Bo Hue. The short ribs had amazing flavor and were cooked perfectly. This would be the reason to visit here until we tried the Bun Bo Hue. The BBH had a spicy broth with tender strips of meat. The meat could also be sliced down to have more with each bite, but this BBH is so very close to my mom's. I am also pleased with the customer service I received - the owner (I'm assuming...or one hell of an employee) who rang me up was super friendly and polite, advising me to take one of their pens as I signed my check! Service like this is NOT found everywhere - and I always appreciate good service when I see it! I'm also writing this review as I scanned some of the 1* reviews - which most are pretty ignorant! They had the option to do boba frozen or regular which I'd never heard of. I got a regular milk tea with pearls and it was pretty good but kinda pricey- I paid $9. Parking is great for the area, and the location is easy to find. No steps to get in, just 2 long ramps, easy for wheelchair access. When I walk in through the door, I'm greeted right away by girls behind the counter. They seat me right away too. I came after 2pm, so there was only one other table dining. But, service took a while to get to me to take my order. I then realized that they were giving me time with the menu... but, I had a couple of questions, and I was super thirsty... lol. I wish they had come up to me and asked if I wanted a drink first. Anyway, the reason I picked this place over the other ones in the area was because I wanted the grilled chicken rice dish that comes with a small soup. The soup was important to me because I wasn't feeling well that day at all... but later, when service finally greeted me, she told me that I have to pay for a side of soup. ($5)... bummer, but ok. I can't believe this is my first time writing a review for Pho Michael, my boyfriend and I have been coming here for years. We come and order the same thing: for me, veggie pho with tofu and veggie broth; for him, pho with brisket and soft tendon. They literally make the best pho in town. The vegetable broth is nothing like I've ever tasted elsewhere. It's sweet, and savory but also rich in flavor, as if carrots and onions are the main ingredients of the broth. Service is also consistently excellent, they come right on cue. And lastly, parking is easy on an average night, the lot can get full on a weekend evening, but I seem to luck up with a spot every time I go around that time. I've been here before but never try their Bun Bo Hue. I have to say, it's actually now my to go to. I would suggest asking them for some shrimp paste and chili oil and extra lime for a kick. They don't serve your typical pork blood or pig feet with the BBH. I also order the combination Banh Mi to share. The Banh Mi bread is flaky and light with the shrimp, chicken and pork. The price was high for a Banh Mi but so worth it. It's not your typical Banh Mi you would get at an Asian market and other restaurants. The filling has some kind of gravy like sauce. The restaurant is located right off of Edenborn Ave., around the corner from the Lakeside mall. It was a decent sized restaurant with plenty of parking for peak lunch rush times. It has a modest / plain look on the outside and becomes more Vietnamese-esque when you walk in. I am a decent fan of Pho restaurants and this one was very good. The staff was very nice and pleasant to talk to. They have paper menus and physical menus and seem to be very sanitary when you walk in. They have a dine in bar, tables and booths and you can pick and choose where you want to eat. The decorations were nice upon the eyes and it had a very comfortable setting. The restaurant is around the corner from the Lakeside mall and will take you two streets away from the action but it is a nice comfortable walk from there. The food was good and felt freshly made. You get the options to use European utensils or you can take the risk and use chop sticks. I ordered the Pho Nam (I am usually a pho ga / chicken kind of person) and I did not regret my decision. The food was fantastic and tasted great. It only cost me $9 for the meal and it was a very good portion for its cost. I would highly recommend it. It was a good experience and the food was amazing. Huge fan! I was told to try the spicy broth with the pho and after trying it, I can say hands down one of the best in the whole NOLA area. It's not super spicy, but it has a deep flavor profile that the spice enhances. All of the toppings where very fresh, and adding bone marrow to the pho was like a cherry on top! Everything was super tender and packed with flavor. The service was great, no complaints there. Probably my only complaint is the price addition for spicy broth. They charged $3 extra just to spice up the broth. $15 for a bowl of pho is a pretty high price to pay. But luckily the food was good and some what justified. Went here for a last minute NYE dinner and it was a GREAT decision. I decided to try something new because I always order the pho nam; instead I got the spicy beef noodle soup! It was different (I want to like tendon so bad but I just cannot). But the broth flavor was soooo incredible! I also really appreciated the variety in the toppings plate - I had never had purple cabbage as an option until today! My server was probably one of the best servers I have ever had! He was so lively, fun, and attentive. Atmosphere was cute. They even have various boba tea and Vietnamese coffee options that I will be back sometime to try. Overall, I don't have any complaints.
