Chicken rice noodle dish with one pork piece from another dish

This is a family-run local establishment that deserves support. I haven't posted on Yelp for years but wanted to make sure that this place got some reviews started since I didn't see any. Ted and his wife run Pho Bayou, which is a local, clean restaurant where the flavors are true and the prices are more than reasonable. They've been open for 4 months and spent 7 months post-hurricane Ida cleaning up the restaurant to get it ready for opening since it was 4 feet underwater and a foot of mud. Also, there's not much in the area for food options, so if you're driving down visiting the area after an air boat or swamp tour, give this place some patronage please. We had the fried eggrolls which tasted great (would recommend pairing it with the fish sauce instead of the sweet and sour sauce), pho noodle soup (nice portion for the regular size and had all the right accompaniments), the lunch special pork rice (the fried rice tasted homemade and very flavorful), and I had the cold rice noodle chicken dish (it is really well put together and probably uses white meat chicken breast to better suit local tastes) which the homemade fish sauce made by Ted's wife only helps amplify the flavors. If a place like Banh Mi Boys in Metairie can get 4 stars on Yelp from the hivemind when they burned our pork, this place is more than qualified of some love and attention from the Yelp community. Note, we didn't try any of the more fusion-y or Chinese foods on the menu but for Vietnamese food, I would say this was on point.

Let me tell you something. We just finished a swamp tour in the Louisiana bayou -- gators, cypress…read moretrees, Spanish moss, the whole magnificent thing -- and we were hungry, a little wild-eyed, and in desperate need of a meal worthy of the morning we just had. Restaurant des Familles delivered in every single way. We ordered the crab cakes, the turtle soup, and the étouffée, and I am not being dramatic when I say all three were absolutely out of this world. The crab cakes were perfect -- crispy outside, sweet and fresh inside, no filler, no shortcuts. The turtle soup was rich and deeply seasoned in that only-in-Louisiana way that makes you close your eyes on the first spoonful. And the étouffée? Silky, buttery, loaded with flavor. Every single dish tasted like someone's grandmother made it with love and a lifetime of knowing exactly what she was doing. But beyond the food -- this place is just beautiful. Tucked right into the bayou, quiet and unhurried, with that warm Louisiana hospitality that makes you feel like a welcome guest rather than a table to turn. We walked in as road-tripping strangers and left feeling like we'd found one of the best kept secrets in the whole state. If you are anywhere near Barataria, whether you just came off a swamp tour or you made the drive specifically for this -- stop here. You will not regret a single bite. Restaurant des Familles is the real deal.

This restaurant is conveniently located right on the waterway and offers beautiful views while dining. We've been lucky enough to catch a few of the female alligators sunbathing on the banks during sunny days. The menu has something for everyone featuring many delicious choices. Now let's talk about breakfast: Weekday around lunch. About 1/4 of seats taken. As best I could tell, 2 or 3 servers. Coffee, OJ and soda brought promptly after ordering. FYI - drinks reasonably priced. I opted for Spinach & Swiss omelette, hash browns well done and biscuit. He opted for Meatlover's omelette, hash browns and toast. 25 minutes later breakfast was served. Husband's order was fine: tasty omelette, and the toast was well buttered. Mine? The Swiss was sticking out of the omelette and it was a slice not melted. The cheese inside the omelette was melted, and overall it had good flavor. The hash browns had good flavor, but they were not well done. The biscuit was not buttered - there was butter on the table - and it was nice and dense to support slathering it in jelly. The waitress checked on us a couple of times. I made no comment whether it was good or bad, because I was going to eat it anyway. As a general rule I don't send things back, and in this instance given the time it took to get it, I was starved and certainly wasn't sending it back. Leftovers box and checkout was super quick. This experience: 2 stars; averaging to 4 stars for restaurant overall. Will continue to use for pastries, but won't be back for another sit down experience.
