Best seafood boils ever! I lived in the area in 2009 and use to get seafood here. I've since moved back to Alabama. Me and my family literally make the 5 hour day trip drive JUST to load up on seafood and come right back home to Alabama. It's THAT good! Hole in the wall that you can easily miss - but DON'T. Fresh seafood, one of the best po'boys I have had, and near St. Bernard State Park where we were camping. Get there early to get the best selection, and they close at 7. Limited menu, but all fantastic. Few tables - we opted for takeout. I had the hushpuppies (again, some of the best I have had) and the shrimp po'boy (they were already out of oysters. The bread was perfectly sauced, the shrimp perfectly fried, moist, with just a hint of spice. Dressed perfectly so you could still taste the shrimp. Its a hole in the wall outside of New Orleans. They have fresh caught seafood daily...that's what makes it so inexpensive! Crawfish was like 5 bucks a pound, I got 2 and was satisfied...the potatoes were good (you get a little bag for like a dolla) and same with the corn...which was a bit overdone and gummy too me...but the crawfish were the main stage...good size, and seasoned VERY nicely with a zesty lemon finish. The family and I stopped by here for po boys while camping down the road at St Bernard State Park. The seafood was fresh and the bread was perfect! Prices have gone up, but these days everything is more expensive! Not much to see inside...order to go and find a nice quiet spot to enjoy or take home. Our family was on a quick drive through St. Bernard's Parish to visit a childhood home of my husband's. On our way back to NO we saw Casanova's on the left. I joked that I bet it got 5 stars on yelp. My husband said check and we were all blown away and laughing when they DID have all 5 stars! We turned around and went back. We ordered crawfish, shrimp and snow crab (and an order of hush puppies). Everything was wonderful. Once again yelp reviews got us to go to a spot we never would have tried! Quick note: it is NOT really a restaurant more like a seafood "to go" place. My first trip to St. Bernard Parish was to volunteer with post-Katrina rebuilding, and it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life, thanks in part to the hospitality and well-told stories of Casanova himself, so to speak. Three of us departed Camp Hope intent on trying crawfish for the first time. We went to Casanova's which we thought was a restaurant, and it does have tables to sit and eat, but it's mostly a seafood shop and we arrived just 15 minutes before closing. No matter, Robert and Judy Casanova welcomed us with open arms and served up a delicious boil of crawfish, shrimp, corn, and sausage. YUM! The corn and sausage were especially delicious. But best of all was the company itself, and we all had a great evening chatting away. Them's good people. Now when I return to "da Parish" I try to stop in for some take-out corn and sausage (I haven't been back in crawfish season yet), or a snowball if the stand is open. Got an order of seafood balls & hushpuppies- both were pretty dang tasty! The balls (I believe) are jst the crab stuffing battered & fried. Golden brown & light- as opposed to dense w too many bread crumbs, these are fairly rich- in a good way! Hushpuppies may actually b homemade- sweet & crunchy w pieces of corn. If not, I wish everyone bought from their supplier :) Cocktail sauce is good, slight bit of heat, but more from hot sauce than horseradish- I cld hv taken more horseradish in mine. The tartar sauce was good, but a tad sweet for my preference. My guess: cocktail homemade, tartar store bought Regardless, they were very generous w the portions :) Service was very friendly & efficient Don't believe they have seating, unless I wasn't paying attention I had called my order in to go Didn't realize they had more than fresh & boiled seafood, it's relatively new development.
