Firstly, they were so gracious to quickly accommodate our group of 6 and we immediately ordered many pounds of crawfish, sides and a catfish platter. Everything was so delicious. Both were excellent. The gumbo was rich and smooth, with nice chunks of crawfish. The crawfish in the boil were large, well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. They offer impressive quantity size servings along with affordable prices. Busy neighborhood place. Staff is very friendly. Thy jammed us at the smallest table and we ordered the biggest thing in the menu. We got boiled seafood for 4. It is about 7 pounds of crawfish, 2 pounds of shrimp, crabs, and corn and potatoes. They were out of crabs, so they assed more shrimp. I usually go to another VERY SIMILAR local restaurant just down the street from Smitty's but decided to give this place a try this time. The place has a very nice and local feel. Not too loud and decorated like a restaurant should be serving locals. I purposely came in after their lunch rush and all servers were on deck and cleaning the place up. I got sat right away and greeted almost immediately. But you are now reading this review more for my thoughts on the food here. I have to say I was extremely impressed by the quality and quantity of food that I ordered. As an appetizer, I got the BBQ shrimp, which were absolutely delicious and I attacked as soon as I got to my table! So the only picture I could post, because I forgot to take it before I attacked it, was the aftermath. not much left. It was absolutely delicious and full of a lot of delicious flavors. As an entrée, I got the creamy garlic salad with fried crawfish tails. I have a picture of it and it was huge and it was delicious and it completely satisfied me. When I restaurant tries and performs this well they get my attention and will definitely have my business again. I came with my family and my meal the pick two was the perfect option for me because I was so indecisive, Shrimp po-boy and gumbo was delicious. Man, O Man...Smitty's ALWAYS delivers! I've been coming here for years. I've tried boiled seafood at other places and simply none come. Other places it's too salty. Smitty's is perfect salinity and spicy (as it should be!) but not overly spicy. As for appetizers, I've had and loved the fried artichoke hearts, fried eggplant sticks, and crawfish poppers top my list. As for entrees, I've already spoken of the great boiled seafood, but in addition I really like the overstuffed poboys, red beans & rice, eggplant Napoleon, crawfish pasta, fried catfish & shrimp, and their fried potato wedges (thick cut fries that are parboiled in the seasoned boiling water then fried crispy. The fries are unique and are great. Any of the wait staff we've had are super friendly (like you're eating in their home), and bathroom is always clean. Great cocktails with a NOLA pour. I started by ordering the crawfish corn chowder and I didn't like it. I can see why others do, but it's too creamy and creamy, just not a great fit for me. But they were nice about it since I barely touched it and took it off my bill. I also ordered crawfish and hush puppies. Oh my, I was in crawfish heaven. The restaurant can be easily missed and the gps took my lyft driver to the wrong location at first but she found it. The restaurant is kinda small but everyone was friendly and welcoming. Me and my family was seated immediately to a nice booth table. The food didn't take very long to come out. Everything was super delicious! I really enjoyed the food especially the catfish. The catfish was super fresh. We all left very full and liked the nice bench outside while we wait on our driver. The waitresses were all super friendly. The restaurant was clean including the restroom. I really enjoyed dining here during a layover and appreciated the fast service. I noticed a lot of airport workers were dining there too. I'm sorry, these people just don't know how to do crawfish. Every time I go there I say it'll be the last time I do, but I had some people that wanted to meet there so I didn't say anything. They just don't wash the crawfish enough. They're always dirty. I also think they gave me some leftover from the night before and just heated them up. I've had diarrhea since I came home. I am shocked I have not written a review about Smitty's. This is one of my Go-To Seafood restaurants. First, you gotta go during crawfish season because they have the best crawfish bisque I have ever eaten! It is creamy, perfect even heat, and filled with crawfish -- just get it! Also, this is anytime of year, get the potatoes. So they take a boiled red potato, batter it up, and deep fry it! The potatoes have about a half inch thick crunchy batter on them and every bite makes you fall deeper and deeper in love with them. They service gigantic glasses here and I approve! I tend to drink A LOT of water when dining out and hate that the poor staff can barely keep up. If there ins't a way to keep a pitcher of water on the table, humungous glasses are the next best thing. They're shrimp poboy is HUGE. like the crawfish bisque, very generous with the shrimp. The mac and cheese is a BLOCK of buttery cheese and everyone needs to try that too. The parking siutation kind of sucks. Not many spots outside. Not alot of healthy options here, maybe salads and the grilled fish. The restaurant is on the smaller size. They have very attentive, laid back - gives a feeling at home - type service. This is a laid back casual dining spot that locals favor. There's plenty of sitting and do seat yourself at a bigger table. Trust me. You'll need all the space for your platters. This was my first time experiencing authentic Nawlin seafood boil. It's very flavorful with all the spices. Season until your soul sings they say! The portion was way more than for two people as the menu suggested. The crawfish balls are delicious with biteful of meat. The Gumbo was my fav! Shrimp, crabmeat, sausage and rice! Stopped by here when I was in town. My hubby got the seafood platter. He said it was flavored well & the oysters were amazing. I ordered their red beans and rice. I'd say they were a 4/10. It was missing something. They had a good spice to them, but had hardly and sodium or Cajun seasonings, if that makes sense. The sausage made the dish. In my opinion, if you don't eat it with the sausage, it's bland, but has a black peppery taste to it, lol. The also ordered some blue crabs. I was thrilled to open the bag and see that they given me 3 extra crabs for free; however, they were so salty that I couldn't get more than 2 down. It was EXTREMELY salty. My cousin tried one and immediately spat it out. I mean like it was so salty that the sausage was not edible at all. The spice was spot on, I just wish that they used A LOT less salt so I could have enjoyed it. If I had to explain it, it reminded me of going to a crawfish boil and getting the corn & turkey necks that were soaking at the bottom of the pot where all the seafood boil landed. Just salty to the point of no return. And believe me, I really wanted those crabs, I traveled for them lol. I went to the sink and tried to even rinse the seasonings off but it wasn't enough. The meat inside of the crab was too full of salt already . Perhaps switch the person making the beans with the person making the crabs lol. Lastly, I ordered their bread pudding. The rum sauce was AMAZING, but the pudding itself.. I honestly don't know how to explain it in any other way besides saying.. WEIRD. It tasted very weird. Bread pudding is my favorite dessert of all time and I have traveled to just try others' lol. But something was just off with the recipe altogether. Sorry, forgot to take pics of our food before we started eating. Just the crabs lol Overall, I really enjoyed my husband's seafood platter. I am not a fried seafood person, but his was delicious. Off da chain good!! Our pastor recommended this location for us to grab a bite to eat after church. My daughter had been asking for boiled crawfish and crab. We had boiled crawfish, crabs, bbq shrimp, fried seafood platter (fish, shrimp, oysters, hush puppies), salad and corn and crawfish soup. Talk about exceeding our expectations. This is our go to seafood place in Kenner. My wife grew up in Metaire and Kenner so we come in to see family at least once a year. Some years more. We've been going here over 20 years. We never miss a visit here. The fried seafood is classic and perfectly prepared. The Seafood Boat is a great way to share with a large group and get a little of everything.
