Yay! I came here after seeing the daily specials. I accidentlly confused the Thursday special for the Friday one but it gave us a good excuse to order something else. Even going in with the intention of ordering the $5 Thursday (Not Friday) lemongrass chicken, we found other items to try. Obviously, we decided to come back on the proper day the following week for the lemongrass chicken. In the meantime, we ordered the pad thai and the pork Bahn Mi. Absolutely delicious! and great service. The bahn mi was the real star of the show. I have to admit, I got almost all the way through it before I noticed why my mouth was on fire. Jalapenos. Which, for someone who is not a complete wimp, is awesome. Even despite the extra kick, I was still in love with the sandwich. The pad thai was nice. Pretty simple but really delicious and filling. A+ service, especially to the waitress who had to refill my water glass about four times. The prices are also pretty hard to beat considering the daily specials. I am pretty surprised they offer such substantial daily specials (Veggie Pho, lemongrass chicken, even mussels) but I am not going to complain. Ever since a friend introduced me to pho last year I just can't get enough. I mention it whenever I can to people who've never tried it and one time someone was listening-in on a conversation I was having asked me where I go. I told them I usually go to Pho Dollar on W Ferry just off Grant, and they said that I just HAD to go to Niagara Seafood because in their opinion it was way better. I said I had driven by there a few time but thought that was just a Seafood market and asked if it was like a to-go kinda thing. But they assured me there were tables to sit at and it was a regular restaurant just like anywhere else and that the name was misleading. That piqued my curiosity and I made a mental note that I'd try it out. A few months went by and jump to this past weekend- I decided it was time to go. I drove to the west side from my home in Amherst and when I got to the intersection where my GPS said Niagara Seafood was, I didn't see it. I parked and when I got out I stood on the corner looking around and nope, no Niagara Seafood. I guessed I'd waited too long and they'd closed down or moved or something. But I saw Pho Lantern and figured I'd come all this way already, I might as well get pho there. I went in and the inside was much nicer than I expected. I was the only customer and I was sat immediately. I was ready to order within a few minutes but it was several more minutes before my server came. I wondered if that was indicative of impending slow service. Luckily it wasn't. I looked over the menu and found the pho toward the back. I was intrigued by the option of different size orders of pho available (S - XXL). Pho Dollar doesn't have that, you just get what you get. So when my server came to the table I asked how big the sizes were. She explained to me that the larger sizes are deeper bowls and come with successively larger portions of noodles and meat not just more soup, so that was nice. I ordered the XL rare beef pho and then my server brought the daily specials to my attention. Since it was Sunday the special was a half price, 10 piece order of steamed or fried dumplings ($8 regular, $4 on special) which came with an option of pork or vegetable. Maybe shrimp too, I can't remember. All I know is she talked me into it. I chose fried with pork. The dumplings came out first. They were good! I ate half and then the pho came out. It was very, very good. But there wasn't chili on the table like at Pho Dollar. They did however bring out Hoisin and Siracha sauce when they brought out my main dish. I had to ask for a fork because although they brought out chopsticks and I used those to eat the dumplings, I knew I wasn't proficient enough to get through a bowl of pho, lol. Near the end of my visit a manager (may have been the owner?) came to my table and struck up a conversation asking if it was my first time there. I told her I had been looking for Niagara Seafood but came here instead when I realized it was gone. That's when she informed me THIS WAS NIAGARA SEAFOOD! They had recently changed the name because too many people thought they were just a market! We had a good laugh about that. All in all I highly recommend Pho Lantern. The ambiance, decor, and menu beats Pho Dollar hands down but while the pho is very, very good, it's not quite as good. But I I'll definitely go again. Perhaps I'll alternate each time :) read more

This place has been on my radar for awhile after seeing it make a few Yelp "Best Of" lists. I have to say, my life is definitely changed. We ordered takeout and it was ready right when I got there. The staff was super friendly and the inside of the restaurant was cozy. We started with steamed vegetable dumplings. I loved them! The filling was tasty and the dumplings themselves were soft. I've tried pho a few times in the past, but was never a fan. Until tonight, that is! I ordered their small rare beef pho and it was so flavorful. The broth was aromatic and delicious, they gave me a lot of noodles, and the toppings were all fresh. The beef was on the tougher side. I topped my bowl with sriracha and it made the flavor even better! My boyfriend got chicken pad Thai which I had a few bites of. It was really good! A little on the sweet side, but it still brought that classic heat. I would recommend Pho Lantern to anyone in a heartbeat. Their menu is huge and everything was just so darn good. I do not know how this place got so many good reviews we went here a few weeks ago for the first time.. we drove in from Rochester. I had the pho and my husband had the bun Bo hue and we ordered a couple Banh mi's to go. My pho was awful The broth was very mediocre and loaded with noodles that overpower the bowl. Ratio was completely off. My husband's dish was way better than mine. Hence the two stars. After doing a virtual Yelp event where we learn to construct Banh Mi sandwiches with Chef Vu from Pho Lantern I decided that I needed to order some food from them. It took about a month but yesterday I finally orderer lunch for pickup. They do offer delivery through the Yelp app but I wanted an excuse to leave the house. My order included 3 Banh Mi sandwiches, 2 pork, 1 cold cut, Lemongrass Chicken and Sweet and Sour Crispy Fish. The food was delicious!!!! I was very interested in trying the cold cuts Banh Mi because Chef Vu highly recommends it during the virtual event. The cold cuts are not what typical Americans think of, is not like the meat you would get at the deli. I also highly recommend it. My girlfriend still likes pork better and is her favorite place for Bahn Mi. Next time I will just hold the jalapeños, they have some extra spicy jalapeños at Pho Lantern. Probably because they are super fresh or something. The Lemongrass Chicken and the Sweet and sour fish were also super, super good. I would put in the same order today if I didn't already have plans. Pho Lantern is a Vietnamese restaurant with a focus on seafood that's located on the corner of Niagara St and Rhode Island St in Buffalo, New York. We were visiting friends in Buffalo for the long weekend and we were looking for Vietnamese food for dinner before we headed back home to Toronto. There isn't an abundance of Vietnamese restaurants in Buffalo, New York like there is in Toronto, Ontario. So we decided on Pho Lantern. We decided on a small spicy beef noodle soup which is essentially bun bo hue ($8.50 plus tax) and a small pho p1 combination which is essentially a pho dac biet ($8.50 plus tax) which consisted of beef flank, beef brisket, beef balls and rare beef in a Vietnamese noodle soup and an avocado shake ($4.00 plus tax). Both soups were pretty good. Both broths were flavourful, good cuts of meats and noodles that were properly cooked. The interior and decor of the restaurant was really nice and the service was pretty good in general for a Vietnamese restaurant. The restaurant was not located in the best part of Buffalo but from my understanding. Buffalo has some nice suburban areas but also at the same time it has a lot of rundown areas that hopefully will change for the better in the future. Overall, Pho Lantern is a pretty good option for authentic Vietnamese food in Buffalo, New York especially in a city that doesn't offer a lot of Vietnamese food options. We had pork and cold cut Banh Mi Togo yesterday along with the bone broth. My husband enjoyed his cold cut, my Mother and I enjoyed the pork, and my toddler loved the bone broth. I had no idea this place was around until I saw an event with them and I had to give it a try. I am so glad that I did give them a try because they were fantastic! Overall solid 4.7 earns a 5 We stuck with the courses theme to lengthen our dinners but also enjoy each dish completely. Starter course was fried shrimp and steamed dumplings. Shrimp were crunchy and very tender with nice dipping sauce, alone the shrimp lacked seasoning. Dumplings were tender and very flavorful as a stand alone and with sauce just a nice extra umami. Second course we each ordered a Ban Mi, this was a mistake because they are large and we could have split one. Very very tasty, a little sriracha and was the perfect bite. I swear the bread was fresh baked, if not it had a perfect crunchy crust and pillowy soft dough. Ingredients were all delicious and very well executed. Just amazing!!! Despite being on the edge of full ( yes I'm fat people; but I'm 6'4" and carry it well) anyway. We went for the PHÓ and man did they deliver. I almost always end up complaining about the same two issues when eating PHÓ, not enough meat and lack of depth in flavor to the broth, ok three things overloaded with rice noodles to make you feel full on cheap fillers. This was not that PHÓ, I will disclaim I added a touch of oyster sauce and sriracha. OMG, so delicious. My only suggestions for improvement which I think all Vietnamese restaurants fail at is not seasoning fried apps in this case the fried shrimp. Second in PHÓ or at least seafood is using imitation crab, it falls apart in soups and shows it's layered flavor lacking sheets of pressed together fakeness. Just leave it out or use real crab chunks laid on top like a rare beef would be done. This PHÓ unfortunately had imitation crab. Also the meatballs are so dense they end up with a rubbery texture. This is done because they will fall apart, meatballs without fillers aren't made to be boiled in a soup. My suggestion is ask for extra tripe in place of the meatballs, it's an even sub because tripe is supper cheap but will add that collagen super beef flavor you want. If you can get away with it ask for sliced beef but be prepared for an up charge. Not referring to PHÓ Lantern because they loaded all dishes with good quality ingredients. However usually Asian restaurants will go slim on expensive cuts in soups. It's a revenue generator and rice noodles are usually predominant by cooked weight over proteins. Always ask for more protein. Ok that's it, go to this place it's great! read more

Given all of the positive reviews on this place I had decent expectations for at least the food. My boyfriend and I left gravely disappointed in basically everything but the decor. We came here on a Saturday night and we could clearly see they were really busy and seemed understaffed, especially in regards to the takeout orders. We're seated and thumb through the menu. A server didn't show up to take our orders until maybe 10-15 minutes after we were seated, so we ordered everything all together. I ordered an avocado spring roll and vegetarian Thai red curry and my boyfriend ordered beef short ribs as an appetizer and got their orange pineapple chicken as a main dish. The spring roll was very mediocre. Just shredded iceberg lettuce and avocado in rice paper. The short ribs were incredibly disappointing. Meat was so tough on the bone and came out room temperature. The red curry was okay as well as the orange chicken. Nothing special at all. Although our food was delivered in a timely manner, we didn't see a server for at least 45 minutes after we got our food to check on us or bring the check. It seemed as if only 3 people were working on the restaurant floor and they were swamped with takeout orders. It's eclectic but provides a nice atmosphere. They have a bunch of daily specials that seem super reasonable. The pho was awesome- the XL size is enough to feed 2 people and the pad Thai is one of the best around. The mango salad is like nothing I have ever had before but delicious- spicy but I highly recommend. I couldn't believe the amount of take out orders coming out of the kitchen on a Sunday night- it's nice to see a business doing well. The other day, I saw a snail crawling up the side of my house and I got all weirded out, squirming around, screaming like a little girl. I couldn't help it, it extended its neck, sooooo gross! Ewww! Ugh! And then, here I am, sitting at Niagara Seafood and what's on the menu? You guessed it! Coconut Top Snails! All kinds of questions ran through my head like, do they serve them raw? Ewww, alive? The coconut sauce was tasty, the texture of the snail was comparable to eating a steamed clam, rubbery, no grit. I was happy they weren't raw haha, like a huge piece of mucus ewwww, a big gigantic booger or something. Ewww, sorry I made you think of slurping that but I was trying hard not to think of that while eating them myself. They were really good though. I would eat them again. The Avocado Seafood Salad was huge, lots of lettuce, a nice half of an avocado, 3 mussels, some calamari, shrimp and scallops, tomatoes, cucumber and carrots. Delicious, fresh, loved it!!! The Grilled Pork Bahn Mi sandwich was fabulous! Really hit the spot! The pork was tasty, the veggies complimented it so well, there was cilantro, cucumber, a couple jalapeño peppers and carrots in it I think, heck, I don't remember but it was so good and the bread was fantastic!!! The waitress was attentive, patient, informative, and laughed at my uncles jokes, she was very pleasant and friendly, as was the hostess who also cleared off our table and chatted with us a little bit. I spent $70 something dollars. On top of the food I mentioned above, we also ordered 2 more pork sandwiches to go plus my uncle had the coconut bubble tea and an avocado seafood salad too. Inside is a small dining area with a beautiful display, with the kitchen at the back of the building. To the right is the counter where you pay and pick up. I have eaten at this place once and once had a take out. This place seems kind of in the middle of no where but seems to offer some really good options. I love the decor of this place. They have an aquarium on one side of the wall and other side they have fake bambo and panda decor. It is really adorable. Most of our dinner was just spent looking at the colorful fishes. Being a vegetarian I opted for the crispy udon and Bahn mi veggie sandwich. I really enjoyed the cripsy udon it was well worth the money but on the other hand the Bahn mi sandwich was mehh.. it didn't have a dressing just raw veggies inside a bun (could have made a better one at home). They do differnet level of spiceness and I opted for 4/5 which was good enough for a spice lover like me. They also have daily specials which are half price if I remember correctly. The day we went they had spring rolls which were amazing. My friends had ordered crispy Vietnamese Noodles and the Phoritto which which they seemed to enjoy as well. Since I liked the crispy udon so much I decided to get a take out one day but was disappointed to find out that they just gave the noodles without the liquid broth. I had my pho with rare beef and I asked to have the rare beef on the side because I like my beef to be raw. One perk about asking to have your rare beef on the side is to make sure they serve you fresh meat, if it's not fresh, the meat would appear brownish. My friend had bun bo hue and he loved it. We also had a papaya salad for appetizer and the spices in it is well balanced. Their customer service has always been excellent and I never had a bad experience with their staff. It's come a long way in renovations, service and presentation since it first opened. Pho lantern is basically the only thing I use Grubhub for. I will spend sixty bucks here just on stuff for me and then justify it by telling myself I'm getting groceries for the week. Sixty bucks will basically get you one of everything on the menu by the way. I'm kind of a chicken wing snob and I can't believe I'm saving this about a Vietnamese take out place, but they have some amazing ones. Unless you are one of those people that eat chicken wings dripping in Frank's red hot. Their wonton soup and lo meins are my usual go tos and I've never been disappointed. I will get a few quarts of the soup and then one of each lo meln (beef, chicken. Seafood, lobster, crab...I skip the pork because my pet pig looks at me weird if I get it). They have the usual general tso, orange, and kung pao chicken, beef and peppers, pepper steak, etc. everything is great and comparable with to any good take out. Where they really shine though is their pho. Hence the name I guess. The broth is complex and delicate, the ingredients are always fresh (packaged separately to add in right before you eat, and I don't think there is anything I enjoy eating more on a rainy day. You will find a ton of things on their menu that you haven't tried before and my advice is to get some stuff you know you like and then get something new. This was a great find, we really enjoyed our lunch, the sandwich with grilled pork was delicious! My husband had the noodle dish with pork and egg roll, very tasty and fresh. The food was so good! I was so hungry and got the Large Rare beef soup bowl and it was so good and filling! The flavor of the broth was so rich. Love this place. The ladies working that night were so kind and sweet! Coming back when in Buffalo 10/10 recommend. read more

My friends and I decided to try out Pho Lantern, as part of our quest to find the best Pad Thai in Buffalo. We arrived on a Tuesday evening and were impressed with the decor and general aesthetics. As we proceeded to look over the menu, it was getting apparant that the place was getting slammed with customers and to go orders. We ordered 2 appetizers, the mussels and fried seafood(calamari). The mussels were in a thai curry sauce. A good portion with a mild curry flavor and a bit of heat. We all wished we had something to sop up the sauce with. The fried seafood came with a sweet and sour ginger sauce and steamed buns. Delicious! Our main courses were Chicken Pad Thai, Shaking Beef and Pad Kee Mao with crispy fish. I enjoyed the Pad Thai, which was pretty traditional, although it didnt have the peanuts that usually comes as a garnish with most Pad Thai. I found myself missing them. The Pad Kee Mao was my favorite. The crispy fish was somewhat overcooked but the flavor was awesone. The Beef was the only issue we had at the table. It was very tough and hard to chew. I think the day we visited was even a surprise to the staff. The restaurant got slammed with customers and to go orders all at once and they were overwhelmed. They only had one server, and the hostess had to jump in to serve as well. At one point I had to fill our waters at the table(which I had no problem doing.) Overall, I think the food was good enough for me to give this place another shot and hope they dont get slammed. read more

Ordered takeout from their online menu. That was super helpful. Food was ready for pickup as soon as I got there. I got the grilled pork sandwich and added avocado. For $5 this is a great menu option. The sandwich is a good size, so if you're splitting apps, I'd recommend one of their Vietnamese sandwiches. Got the Phoritto with beef broth. this was my first Phoritto so I don't have much of a comparison. I would have liked more rice noodles inside. There is a generous helping of broth that comes with it, and overall I did like the concept. However, it's not crammed with flavor. But, still worth a try. We got the udon noodle soup with seafood. Good amount of shrimp, calamari, scallops, crab, and as well as vegetables. Great broth too. I wasn't an overall fan of this with udon though. Maybe a different noodle. Lastly, shared the small spicy seafood tofu soup. For a small, this was a generous portion. I'm not sure which white fish was in it but the broth was good, although not too spicy. The tofu was thin, so didn't have much of a firm texture but held up. I'd go back. I still haven't tried the actual pho from here, or the avocado salads which are usually my favorite. read more
