Dim sum at Ocean Palace was a 30 minute wait so I ventured over to Hong Kong City Mall and decided to try Pho Dahn. First time here, but I think I have found my new favorite spot for Pho, especially after trailer pho closed down. They just have pho, I got a large #20. Quite tasty! I drank all of my broth and felt great after! You can choose your size and then they have a variety of combinations of meats and also a just veggies option It wasn't too busy but a good amount of customers present. Everyone was friendly. There is not much decoration, but that doesn't really matter. The thermostat was at 75, maybe a little more cooler temperature would make eating the hot pho even better. Did not skimp on meat portions for the Pho Dac Biet and the broth was just the right amount of salt. Very clean restaurant and amazing food! The waitress was also very nice even though we only spoke in English. We got the Pho Bo Combination one small for $11 and one large for $12 with Iced tea for $1.50. The Pho was amazing and really packed with food you're definitely going to get your moneys worth. Hidden in some corner of HK4, we came to this place starving. Almost every other pho place on Bellaire was crowded during lunch time and we didn't want to wait. It's been a while since I was here but the quality of their pho remains the same. My family and I used to come here all the time for some good old pho. This establishment is clean with plenty of space inside. I do like that it's hidden in a random corner of HK. It's more quiet and less crowded. GOOD PHO! There are so many Pho restaurants in Houston. How to choose? I did a Yelp search for "pho" in Houston and the search returned over 500 restaurants. Luckily I have Vietnamese inlaws who have lived in southwest Houston for over 25 years. Their current "go-to" place for Pho is Pho Danh 2. I trust the inlaws, and the pho is pretty darn good. This is our to go Pho place. This is where we bring our out of town guests. My husband reminds me everyone has different tastes. So if you like clean pure beef broth taste, this place is it. We ordered 9 Pho Đặc Biệt (special) To Go today. Sometimes, To-Go Pho can be disappointing since it's not as hot as that as when you're at the restaurant. So here are the Tips to put it together at home so that it almost tastes like you're eating there. 1. Re-boil your beef broth in a pot till it boils for 3-4 minutes. While it's boiling, microwave your beansprouts for 1.minutes so that it's no loner cold. 2. Boil hot water and pour it into your large ceramic bowl that you will serve your Pho. Pour out water after 3 minutes. If you don't do this step, you'll lose heat from the broth and your noodles and rare eye of round won't get cooked. 3. In a large pre- warm ceramic bowl on top of a plate, put 1/2 handful of pre-cooked /parboiled beansprouts, on top of that put noodles, meats, onions/cilantro on top. Make sure to put the rare eye of round meat on a small dish on the side. 4. Pour boiling hot broth over meats and noodle of your Pho bowl. Place it on the table. Have the included bag of herbs, lime wedge, hoisin/hot sauce on a plate nearby to garnish it the way you like. Place the rare meet into the hot broth and shake it until it is cooked your liking (medium to well done). Enjoy!! Ps. The bean desert in coconut milk and jelly is tasty too. I have been going here on and off for almost 20 years (it was my first pho restaurant when I moved to America). I always order the Pho Dac Biet (The Pho Special) because it includes every protein that they have to offer. Pros: Pho Danh takes card payments (which is rare for pho restaurants), the prices ranges from low to fair, it is cleaner than most pho restaurants, the food portioning is great, the broth is hearty, and the proteins are cooked well. Cons: This place is literally a hole-in-the-wall; it is a poorly placed location (at the edge of the Hong Kong mall), the servers hover over you until you're ready to order, there might also be a language barrier problem as most of them speak Vietnamese, and the appetizer options are very limited. Other than that, I honestly have no complaints; this place's quality is consistent and authentic. I'd recommend Pho Danh to anybody - Vietnamese or not. read more

I can't believe I never wrote a review for Pho Danh. I have to echo the other reviews by saying this is probably my favorite pho restaurant in town. They are indeed super fast and fresh and the XL bowl is an off menu option. The ambience isnt exactly 5 stars (being in the back corner of the Hong Kong City Mall), but the food is why people keep coming back for more. My in-laws have been going to this restaurant for years as a post-church Sunday ritual every week. It gets superpacked on Sunday mornings, so they come and beat the lunch crowd by coming in around 1030... They have a number of other dishes and you can even order your noodles with soup on the side if you arent a big fan of super soupy bowls (which sometimes I fall into that category). If there is one place to go to for when I need a pho fix, then Pho Danh is where I go. read more

This has become a rival for my favorite pho places in Houston: Pho 21 and Mai's. It's located in Hong Kong City Mall and has a community seating style. I chose number 12 with flank, brisket, and tendon (I think) and got a large which turned out to be $8ish after tax. I thought it was interesting that they offered a kids size all the way to an extra large bowl size. The broth here was amazing. I could've drank the whole thing. They gave you a lot of meat. There was meat on top and then under the noodles. In fact I think the only downside weirdly enough is that I needed more noodles to eat with my meat which rarely happens. Heard about this place after doing a yelp search. I've only been here once, but I will likely return again. It's located on the far side of Hong Kong City Mall, on the opposite end of the food court. It may be a little tricky to find. Definitely one of the best pho I've had. The meat was generous, fresh, and tasty. The interior is the usual noodle soup restaurant functional dining space. The broth does have a nice quality to it... not too salty or oily, but flavorful with a rich aroma. There is a vast selection of pho meat combinations with all the goodies like tripe, tendon, and meatballs. They rearrange the combinations of meats, so you can surely find one with all of your favorites. I reccommend pho tai if you are a pho newbie. There was a good selections of other Vietnamese dishes if gorging on a delicious bowl of noodles is not to your liking. Seating is mostly cafeteria style with long benches, but there are separate tables to the side too if sharing tables is not your thing. As for the restaurant -- there's plenty of seating, the store is clean, the lighting is great, the location is convenient, but most importantly the pho is prepared nicely. Five stars for: Best bowl of Pho I have ever had. I have only been here 3 or 4 times but that is because it is not located close to where I live. The Pho is simply the best -- there is something in the broth -- no other place I have been even compares. This place can be hard to find as it is located in the back of Hong Kong City Mall. I used to come here a lot when I used to live in the area as a kid. Not sure if they changed owners between now and then but the place looks the same. The restaurant was very clean and seating was no problem. They lose a star for service because the lady helping us was rather cold, non emotional and just straight up rude. Instead of taking our drink orders and letting my wife and I explore the menu she just stood there waiting the entire time. Luckily the food ended up being good.
