Doesn't look like much from the outside but Pho Che has a promising menu of go-to Vietnamese entrees. Came for a quick lunch and was seated immediately. We ordered the regular large pho, chicken & spring roll vermicelli, and garlic fries. The fries are super CRISPY and hot - eat with caution and such a shareable portion. The pho is nothing special but I appreciate a good broth. The chicken & spring roll vermicelli fell short - was expecting it to be served in a bowl rather than a plate. The spring roll wasn't cut up either like in Viet restaurants. It was hard to mix it all together. Also was not a fan of the mayo-like sauce on the salad/greens. I ordered Pho with meatballs and brisket. When my ordered came I noticed that the meatballs were cut in half. So I called our server to complain why what so called meatballs is not whole. We used to live about 10 blocks from there 5 years ago and every time we went there was a blast. We liked the young couple owners serving. But this time a take-out was ordered in person and it was worse than upsetting. Pho was good, summer rolls had too much lettuce not enough shrimp. At home, I gave half to my tortoise. Sandwich didn't have as much filling as before. But it's more the customer's service that was upsetting. Since my car was being repaired just next to this eatery, I had somewhere to wait. I was told by the middle-aged man the wait time was 20 min. When I went back, I thought the 2 bags on the counter were mine. The cashier checked and said that mine would be coming next. So, I waited. And waited. And waited. Before I got mine, there were 3 clients that got their orders, and I waited 18 more minutes. After my order finally came, I was given one overstuffed bag with everything inside. Since I was tired of waiting and my family was waiting at home, I didn't ask for another bag because more time would be spent opening and dividing into 2 bags. It was heavy. The upsetting part is that I got burned with the pho's soup while holding the bag with 2 hands. Yes, the tab was piping hot. There were 2 orders of pho, aside the other 2 items. I don't blame the girl/cashier. It was the man who packed behind the counter inside--the same man mentioned above. And I wonder if it's the same man that the other reviewer mentioned of surcharging. I got #9 which was the Rare Steak, Brisket and Tendon Pho, and was so surprised at how large and filling the bowl was, even though I ordered the small! Definitely can't beat the prices (~$15) compared to places in Manhattan. This was probably one of the better pho places I've had as well - better than those in Manhattan. We ordered the spring rolls on top of the pho and they came out piping hot and yummy. The only thing I would've changed is the noodles coming out all clumped together. While I do really enjoy Vietnamese food, I haven't had a chance to try much of it yet. Based on my experience, I would say the pho at this location is definitely above average, especially for this area of Queens. In addition to that, the French fries are incredible! I have tried both their plain French fries and garlic fries (au provenzal). The fries are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with a delightful texture that sets it apart from any other French fry variety. I also highly recommend their pork chop platter over rice. The rice is perfect and the pork is flavorful and tender. For some reason, this spot seems to be the only decent Vietnamese restaurant in the area. This restaurant is a little interesting since it's a Korean run Vietnamese restaurant and I feel like there's very little consistency when I come here. Granted I don't come here often, but something is always different whether it's the menu or the food. I ordered number 5 small pho which is the raw beef, tendon and brisket. After waiting for one woman to order and another woman to pick up her food, I stood there waiting to pay and pick up my order, Thai Iced teas and fries, which I saw on the counter already. I stood and stood- meanwhile, no one had even greeted me yet. Employees came to the register, didn't even acknowledge me and continued on doing their thing. I mean I get it's busy, but is it really too busy to say hello? Finally, one of the girls realized I was there?? And asked me what I needed. I pointed to my order telling her I was picking this up, paid and left. Thai iced tea was good. Fries were also good. But bad customer service really taints the experience. I find myself begging my partner to come even in the dead of NYC summer heat. It is a no frills type of joint with amazing food. Every single time I go I tell myself I'm going to try a banh mi or one of their rice dishes, but I never do... because if I don't get the pho I'll be jealous of everyone else's. This place never disappoints. Ever. My go-to dish is the Rare Steak and Brisket Pho. It's all about the broth- so good! Always spot on! The service is always friendly and attentive as well. The ambiance is very casual and they have a few TVs showing a sports game of some sorts which is entertaining. I also get the summer roll and it's really fresh and love their peanut sauce. The go to spot in Queens for pho and grilled pork chops. For the price they charge you get your moneys worth for the majority of the things you order. Both the small and large pho are pretty big and I feel like the difference is mainly the amount of soup/noodles come in the bowl. The fries are double fried so they are nice and crispy when they come to the table. I usually go for the pork chops which never disappoint and are always juicy and flavorful. I usually order take out from them and had always been satisfied with their food/service. Yesterday, we decided to dine in in a cold day. Ordered house large house special pho. When the food came out, bowl was huge , however amount of meat/tendon and noodles feels like a regular order, non-large bowl. Soup was hot and tasted great. I also ordered 2 dishes to go when I about to finished my food. Waiter did not hesitate to give me the check when he knows I am done with my food. However, despite receiving the check with the cost of the 2 take-outs, the staff did not give me my take outs. We waited for 10 mins and had to flag down another waiter to get my take out. I drove by this spot so many times but never paid attention. Then, I decided to pop by one day and was I glad I did! It's a great spot, kind of a whole in the wall that has pretty generous portions for great prices. Because I'm me, we HAD to get a Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($3.99) because I need my coffee. We also decided to try the BBQ Chicken Banh Mi ($8.99), a large Chicken Pho ($12.49), AND French Fries Provenzal ($6.99) because it sounded fancy... First things first, the coffee was wonderful and strong, just the way I love it ^_^ I wish the portion size was bigger (there's never enough coffee) but it was worth the price. A solid 10/10! The banh mi was pretty good. The meat had a nice smoked flavor and was inside a french baguette with delicious pickled carrots, daikoni, cucumbers, cilantro, and jalapeños. It was juicy and flavorful, and I enjoyed it. I only wish the bread was a bit wider. For me, it was an 8/10. The pho was HUUUUGE and we couldn't finish it. The broth was rich and the noodles tender but not too soft. I do wish it were a bit spicier but it was tasty regardless. It tasted like standard pho but the portion for the price was pretty good. For me, it was around an 8/10. Now, the fancy fries! The French Fries Provenzal is french fries with garlic and parsley (yummm), which gave it that little extra flavoring. This review is long overdue... The very first time I came here was on my birthday 2 years ago. My husband and I are pho snobs and we love trying different Vietnamese restaurants but this place is by far the best we've tried. They are the true definition of don't judge a book by its cover. Just because their Korean doesn't mean they can't cook good pho and make delicious banh mi sandwiches. I've tried everything from here and my favorites are their pho, bbq pork banh mi, provenzal fries, summer & spring rolls. The pho broth hits the spot every time and the thin noodles they use never get soggy. Tip: eat the fries using chopsticks to avoid getting your fingers dirty. Price point is also on par with the area so your pockets won't be empty but your stomach will be full beyond belief. The only negative item is the parking can be a hassle because of the tiny parking lot and it is located in a residential area where residents take most of the spots. I would have gave it a five star, but decided to give it a four star. Mainly because there prices are very high, compare to many other Pho places. If you're looking for a filling meal- you've found it. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food, keep going. Had a real hankering for bún thịt nớng and I could tell from the soju on the menu there would be some Korean adaptation to the dishes. I was definitely open to the idea, seeing how bibim guksu can be transformed into an awesome fusion dish- but instead of the fresh veggies I got salad with dressing on the side of vermicelli and beef slices. Honestly the salad dressing was appalling. If that was left out, I think it would've passed as a decent bún dish. The accompanying sauce I assume was nớc mắm resembled a thin version of Thai chili sauce- not too flavorful though. And the chả giò was a very standard spring roll. When craving comfort food on a rainy day, Pho Che is the first thing that pops in my mind. My boyfriend and I really enjoy dining at this place, it's a clean spot with great Vietnamese food and kind servers. We usually go for three dishes which are the house special combo pho, spring rolls, and the summer rolls. The house special pho comes with rare steak, brisket, meat balls, and tendon. The broth is clean and delicious, the cuts of meat taste fresh, and the noodles are not soggy. Basically everything that you look for in a great bowl of pho. I prefer the spring rolls here over all other places in Queens because they are the crispiest ones. One thing I don't like about others is that they roll their spring rolls with rice paper which doesn't come out too good, almost soggy. The filling is tasty and the nuoc cham (fish sauce) on the side is simply addictive (at least for me). The summer rolls have a very satisfying crunch from the fresh veggies, I always get extra peanut butter sauce on the side because the more the merrier haha. I think the peanut butter sauce is better than some places out there too. This spot is a highlight for me on Northern, definitely my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Queens. If you're an avid pho lover I recommend you give this place a chance because you might just find your forever pho spot. I will preface and say that it is SPICY. Almost like a mala type of spice. If you can't handle mala soup at hot pot, you probably shouldn't get this. We got a lot of takeout and holy moly do they NOT skimp on the ingredients. So much meat, so much garnish. Their ice coffee is some of the best $5 you'll spend. There's parking right in front but they warn you not to park in the first two spots because it belongs to a specific business on that strip. We sat at their outside area, and each table had a window or opening for proper air circulation and above the table was a cozy heat lamp. The BBQ pork banh mi was pretty good even after eating it 5 hours later. Not sure what sauce was in it but it looked like mayo which isn't on a too cal banh mi. The BBQ chicken I can't say that I liked. A few bites and I had to give it to my husband. The flavor of the chicken wasn't to my liking, maybe too much lemongrass? Located right on Northern Blvd, they have a few parking spots right out front but I can imagine it usually is filled up - but who knows you may get lucky!
