Love this spot! Food was incredible and worth the wait. Rotin Curry Dip- I could drink the dipping sauce it was that good. Edamame- too salty. Need to tone down the salt but still good Panang Curry- incredible and if I lived here it would be my go to dish.
Amazing Vietnamese and Thai comfort food. The menu all looks so good. I had a hard time picking something! I went with the pho mala. I really enjoyed it and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. The broth is really good. It is deep and flavorful. I thought it would be tongue numbing and too spicy but it wasn't. It has a nice kick to it but not overwhelmingly spicy. It has layers of anise, sweet, tangy and slightly spicy. The bowl is big and there is a good amount of noodles. I could easily make this 2 meals!
Lots of options to choose from, generous portions, and speedy service! The pho broth is sweet and fragrant, and the Kao Soi was quite flavorful and savory. The pickled daikon and carrots helped balance out the heaviness of the soup, and the crispy chicken was so juicy and tender.
The place is cute and everyone was super friendly. The food was more on the Thai side but it was really good.
Khao Soi at Basil Pho I've ordered it a handful of times now and it genuinely never disappoints. The chicken is perfectly crispy and adds that extra heartiness and protein that makes this feel like a REAL meal. One thing though: in person is definitely the superior experience. When you get it to-go or delivered, they separate the chicken, noodles, and broth so you can assemble it yourself (which honestly keeps everything from getting soggy), but eating it fresh in the restaurant just hits differently. The service is quick and the restaurant is small. There's always usually a line but the food is worth it.
This place is very close to Boston Symphony Hall, so I brought my colleagues here after the concert! Pad Thai: Just like at Nine Tastes, my first bite was overwhelmed by the strong sourness... According to ChatGPT, American Southeast Asian restaurants may use concentrated tamarind sauce instead of the original tamarind-infused water, or reduce the sugar to suit American tastes, hence the extra sourness of Pad Thai. Learned something new! The shrimp was very fresh, firm and tender; the rice noodles were stir-fried with a great wok hei 鑊氣(wok aroma), and the portion was huge, but it got a bit oily towards the end. My favorite was the peanuts--they were incredibly fragrant, and not too finely ground, giving them a better texture. Also, a larger plate is really needed; it would be much easier to mix all the ingredients together. Drunken Noodles: The wide flat rice noodles were authentic. The spicy flavor added another layer of wok hei, and the thin layer of chili oil helped retain heat and enhance the aroma. Although a bit spicy, I felt it was the best of the three. Saigon Noodle: It felt like a combination of the two above, with a touch of sweet and sour and a hint of spicy, but neither was particularly prominent. It had a hint of sesame oil, but I personally don't really like sesame oil.
Delicious food!! We came for lunch and got the pho dac biet along with the beef pad see you and both were flavorful and well made.
I don't know where to start for my review of Pho Basil. As a small business I want to give them as much credit as I can, but be as honest as possible. I ordered the Pad Thai with no modifications other than no bean sprouts, My group also ordered the Curry Puffs, Drunken Noodles, Pad See Ew, and Thai Tea. To get the worst out of the way before I get to the better part of my visit, the Pad Thai was majorly disappointing. It was sauceless and very dry, and lacked flavor other than lemon. If i'm being blatantly honest, I genuinely, truly, and honestly proceeded to order myself some pizza after I tried a bit of my food, and left it for a friend to finish (I fear she wasn't even keen on finishing the meal, and unfortunately it went to waste). 2/10 What I can say works WELL for this restaurant is the Drunken Noodle Dish with steak, it was full of vegetables, sauce, and very flavorful and tasty! I strongly regret not ordering that to begin with, as I tried some of my friend's dish and was jealous! 8/10 My other friend ordered the Pad See w/ shrimp, and it was okay, but lacked some flavor, she ended up adding sauces from home to liven up the dish, Not as good as the drunken noodle, but not as disappointing as the Pad Thai. 5/10 The stars of the show, besides the drunken noodle dish, were the: - Curry puffs, which I loved 9/10, - & Thai Tea 7.5/10. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely not bad. The actual space itself is a bit crowded if i'm being truthful, there is seating for in house customers so don't fear that factor, but for those who are ordering take out be aware that there is not much of a waiting area, which isn't a huge necessity, but makes things a little awkward when you have three women waiting for their order somewhat imposing on a couples intimate date due to lack of space. Take that as less of a complaint, and more of something to take note of. I'd recommend waiting outside if possible. The staff is kind! I have no complaints regarding their service. Overall i'd be hesitant to say I'd to go back, I've had better, but I wouldn't rule them out entirely. For what it's worth I was the only individual of three who felt outright disappointed in my meal. So I personally wouldn't get it again, but would not steer anyone away from trying them out on their own!
The food was amazing. The noodles were chewy and just the right texture. The soups were flavorful and delicious. We will be back.
Pho basil never disappoints and is our favorite go to ordering place for Vietnamese food! We had just come back from a big trip and hubs was not feeling well came down with a cold and cough. So what better than to order some hot pho noodle soups! We ordered 2 pho ga and 1 pho chay. All very satisfying and I just love all the veggies in the pho chay soup and that broth is super flavorful!! We also ordered the fried rice with chicken which was also quite good and a huge portion too. The chicken wings and dumplings were great! Delivery came quickly. Leftovers for a couple lunches were great!
This spot is the perfect place if you're looking for a hearty, cozy, and delicious meal! Located in the back bay, Pho Basil specializes in Vietnamese and Thai cuisine. Their portions here are huge, prices are really good, and service is very quick and kind. I got their Saigon Noodles (something I've never seen at any other spot) and the dish came in a portion big enough for two meals. Super flavorful and bouncy noodles. Absolutely loved this place.
This place was packed with a line out the door right before one of the BSO concerts. That was already a good sign. Once we were seated, the portions that came out were HUGE, not to mention delicious. I got the drunken noodles with crispy chicken. Although the crispy chicken didn't really go with the noodles, they were still all delicious. I was only able to eat half of the portion and took the other half home.
I went here twice while in Boston so that should tell you everything you need to know. This was a very cute and small Pho shop but oh so delicious. The first night we landed, we were craving pho and this place was a short walk from the hotel. The line was out of the door when we arrived but we only waited about 20 mins for a table so not too bad. I ordered the butterfly pea sparkling limenade. I liked the colors and so I decided to order it. It was good, fizzy and very lime forward. I enjoyed it. We ordered egg rolls to share. They were crispy and the filling was delicious. Ground chicken instead of pork and the homemade fish sauce dipping sauce was the perfect sweet and sour touch. I originally went in for Pho but ended up ordering the tom yum fried rice with crispy duck after I seen it at another table. That tom yum fried rice was definitely a major yum. It was slightly sweet but savory, the crispy duck was crispy and tender and they gave plenty of duck meat on top. The basil added the perfect touch to the rice as well. The rice was a 10/10. On our second trip we were going to try another pho place a couple doors down from here but they said their chef hadn't showed up yet and we had a flight to catch so we decided to go back to Pho Basil since it didn't disappoint the first time. We got the pan fried gyoza to share. I love gyoza so it literally never disappoints me. I did order pho this time as well. I went with the Pho Sate. It came with beef balls, flank steak, and rare steak. Had cherry tomatoes and all the normal pho toppings as well. It had a nice amount of spice. It had the spicy chili oil added. This Pho was Pho-nomenal. I recommend this cute shop to anyone looking for some good eats in Boston. read more

Food was good. Portions were a little big for me. I had the pan fried gyozas. They were really good but a little too cold than I had pho tai! Beef was tasty but not the best quality for sure, noodles and broth were really good. Service was great, super fast & respectful. I went on New Year's day and it was pretty crowded, so I can only imagine how crowded it gets, but the restaurant is pretty spacious for a place in Boston. read more

Major food safety issue!!! I ordered delivery and found a shrimp tail in my vegetable pad Thai. Not a piece of shrimp, a shrimp TAIL. As in something that should have been thrown in the garbage. Extremely dangerous and beyond disgusting. Uber Eats refunded me, but I still had to pay all the fees, so I ended up spending $20 to get an appetizer delivered because this place apparently doesn't take food safety seriously. Pho Basil is located across campus so it tends to get busy quick. We came here as a group of five on a Saturday at opening. We were seated immediately but the place quickly filled up. We ordered different variations of pho and everyone loved their orders. The rice noodles were thin and chewy and absorbed the tasty broth. My mala pho was not as spicy as expected but delicious nonetheless. read more
We came around 11:50 AM (20 minutes after they open) and the restaurant was already almost full. Apparently it's quite popular and there's usually a line. You can get in line ONLINE too. That can save you some time waiting in the cold. Service is excellent. Clean, well organized and everything was pretty quick. We ordered: - Drunken noodles with fried chicken: it's pretty good 5/5. Has great flavor, noodles were cooked perfectly. Generous portion and a good amount of veggies. Definitely worth it to add scripy fried chicken. - Bun bo Hue: 3/5 it's not bad but it's not quite the standard Bun bo Hue, and not so flavorful. Some of the meat was tender but most wasn't. I had to chew quite a bit. I wouldn't order this again. read more

Great spot on the edge of Back Bay. We went for lunch midday on Sunday and were sat immediately. I ordered the Thai Iced Tea which was delicious - I would definitely recommend if you are looking for something sweet. We got the sesame wings for an app which were perfectly crispy and flavorful. The mains we got were came in huge portions. The Dac Biet pho was good, I just wish it had slightly more flavor. The Tom Yum Beef Fried Rice was also good but not outstanding. Overall I would recommend Pho Basil for a warm hearty meal. read more

A great Pho place on Mass Ave that was bustling on a Sunday evening. I ordered online about 15 minutes before and my order was just about ready when I was there for pickup. The packaging is great as they separate the broth from the noodles and meat. They also have a little baggy of bean sprouts, like, and a packet of hoisan sauce. I took everything out into a bowl to reheat and it tasted just like you would get in the restaurant. The broth is sweet and the meat is tender. This is a perfect place to warm up on a cold winter day. read more

Pho Basil is overall alright. I think they just had an off day. The gyoza was soggy and the texture was very soft and a bit cold. The pho was pretty decent. It is very light and savory but it was a bit too sweet for me. There was not much noodles and meat in the pho. The people here were efficient and nice. The restaurant is always lively with students eating here. I had great experiences before as I occasionally eat here. I believe they just had a bad day. read more
I liked the duck noodle soup. We put our names on the Yelp waitlist beforehand. All of the seats were taken in the restaurant showing that it's a popular place. They have both Vietnamese and Thai food. I also had lychee juice and it came with four lychees which i liked. read more

The food was delicious. The service was amazing. The delivery is usually fast and very nice people. The place is a little bit small so it does tend to get crowded in busy times so I would recommend getting there before dinner time for a secure seating on time. read more

Delicious and great value! I highly recommend coming by for their lunch menu. Prices are affordable, portions are large, and food is tasty! I wouldn't say Pho Basil is your best option for Thai/Vietnamese in Boston, but they are definitely a convenient and college friendly option for those in the area, while having good tasting food. read more

I wanted to know what was the "best" pho in Boston and Yelp turned me to Pho Basil. The place is small, expect maybe a short wait. There is a waitlist you can scan to enter. Wait wasn't so bad like 10-15 min for me and that was on a Wednesday night. I just looked at the menu during the wait time. Staff wasn't that bad. Ordering was easy they do it electronically and give you the check right after ordering in a little slot on the side of the table. Cute packing for take away I got the Thai iced tea, pho dac biet, and crispy chicken basil home special with white rice. Pretty cheap eats and huge portions! Total was less than $40 after taxes (no tip included yet). Thai iced tea was normal. The pho that everyone raves about wasn't the BEST to me but it was good in its own way. Really sweet tasting broth. The table doesn't provide anything but hoison but I wouldn't recommend adding hoison sauce unless you want your broth even more sweet! In my opinion this place probably better for the Thai based foods over the Vietnamese based foods. Even though the name is Pho Basil it seems like the Thai style crispy chicken stir fry was better than the pho! I should have gotten one of the fried rices or drunken noodles with crispy chicken. My one friend likes the curry here over the pho too so it's telling maybe try not just the pho here. read more

This pho was amazing. Got egg noodle instead of vermicelli. Put a bunch of hoisin and hot sauce SO GOOD. Sesame wings were yum with good flavor. Thai tea was perfect, not too sweet. Service was really good the employees are kind and food comes out rlly quick. Restaurant is clean and gets a lot more full around dinner time. I took off a star just because the side of bean sprouts and basil they gave us was very small. The bean sprouts were a bit soggy too. read more

After leaving BSO with a friend, we decided to get a bite to eat, and decided upon Pho Basil. It was a little bit of a pain because you had to be added to the waiting list via a scan on your phone. I would much rather be able to walk inside and put my name on a list rather than having to stand outside in the cold and try to scan askew so I can get on a waiting list. Anyways, my friend was very interested in eating here so we put ourselves on the list. Once inside, it was extremely tight we were against the wall at a two seater with about 10 inches between the tables where people had a squished through, including the servers. I understand about optimizing your space but maybe they should think about a different seating arrangement as it was extremely uncomfortable as I'm a 275 pound guy my left arm was pressed against the wall the entire meal. And I kept getting touched by the service as they were bringing over food to our table and two other tables. The food came out all at once rather than the appetizers, and then the mains, which is not really a bad thing as I like a full table but unfortunately, all of these plates and bowls did not fit on the table and it was just so crowded that it impeded my happiness of eating anything. Now that I vented about my seating experience, I would like to say that the staff was very friendly and helpful, as well as knowledgeable and very polite . So now onto the orders for appetizers, we ordered the fried Gyoza I believe there were eight Gyoza on the plate with a small piece of iceberg lettuce, and some pickled radish carrot on top. The Gyoza was cooked correctly with a small amount of stuffing not really anything special. I would rate it as 2 stars, dish was priced at $8.50. We also ordered the wings. I forget how many were, maybe six or eight. They were supposed to be cooked with a special Thai herb. However, I did not taste any type of spicing. However, they were delicious, fried perfectly, and extremely tasty. They also came with the same little piece of iceberg lettuce and pickled radish carrots on the side with a little bit of dipping sauce. Wings are at 5 stars. Price $8.95, possibly the best value on the menu. For a couple of the mains we ordered Pad See You, which is basically a stirfried noodle with some broccoli, carrot, Chinese broccoli, egg and some beef. This dish was the best thing on the table. I would give this a 4 star rating as there was very little beef. Price $16.96. And lastly, we ordered the Dac Biet, which is Pho. The bowl was the size of the medium at most pho restaurants , however,Ph Basil only had one size. The Dac Biet comes with rare steak, well-done flank, tendon and tripe. We ordered ours without the tripe. I did ask the waitress if there was a good amount of meat or if I could possibly order extra meat, she said there was a lot of meat. I'd say it was on the lite side and would've liked and appreciated if I could have ordered extra meat. I would've had no problem paying extra for it as I do it most places. Unfortunately it was not even an option. All in all the Pho was pretty average as you'd find well outside the city. The broth was a tad on the salty side. I would put it in the middle maybe a 2 1/2 stars for the Pho. No, as everyone knows on mass Avenue basically there's no parking if you're lucky enough to get a meter the parking guards I'll looking down on you. I did not happen to view the restrooms, so I cannot state the cleanliness as I cannot for the kitchen. If you are downtown, it's a very pleasant place to go as long as it's not cold outside as they make you wait outside not in the restaurant. read more
Super good pho place with really good service. My pho dac biet was 13.95 and the serving size was really big. The appetizer roti n curry dip is also delicious (but not that much for the price). Came in a party of 5 for dinner after work, had to wait a while to be seated but once inside the waitresses were very kind, attentive, and speedy. read more

You know it's good when there's almost always a line out the door! I've tried takeout from Pho Basil a few times, but this was my first dine-in experience. Since we were a small group and visited for an early dinner, we were seated immediately. We ordered some crab rangoons to start, which were tasty but nothing too special. The real star of the show was the saigon noodle dish, which I ordered with crispy chicken. The noodles, sauce, and veggies all paired together perfectly, and everything was elevated so much further with some delicious crispy chicken on top. By the end of the meal, we left feeling completely stuffed. Overall, everything I've tried here has been great, but the noodle dishes are the real highlight. read more

Cozy restaurant serving great Thai and Vietnamese food! We stopped by on a week day for lunch and it was sooo crowded - luckily we only had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up. We were seated and placed our orders soon after. The food came out very quickly and was fantastic! I ordered the Tom yum noodle soup - so flavorful, spicy, and hearty. My friend ordered the pho, which she enjoyed as well. The servers are very efficient and quick. During busy hours, you'll be asked to wrap things up once you're finished eating, so this might not be the best place to have a leisurely meal and catch up with friends. read more

Cozy little space with a good selection of food. Was surprised to see Thai food here as well, but we were here for the pho only. My boyfriend got the dac biet and I got the bun bo hue. I tasted the soups first and I was very pleased with how good both soups were, but the dac biet had one of my favorite pho soup bases ever. The bun bo hue was nothing too special, but I appreciated how much meat and toppings they gave. It was definitely very filling and at a good price point, I highly recommend it, especially in this Boston winter! read more

I went here with a couple of people. We started out with Gyoza dumplings and Sesame chicken wings. Our entrees were Crispy duck Pad Thai, chicken Pad Thai and the chicken Pho Gat. Everything was excellent, clean fresh and tasted great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is far from a fancy place, but I'd rather have good food than linen on my table. Hope to go back soon. read more
After a full day of walking through the city, the best way I could end my day was by eating a comforting bowl of pho. Pho Basil has little space for seating, therefore the wait time did last for roughly 30 minutes during dinner time. And this was a wait time for a table for 1. Regardless, the food was worth it. The waitress was very nice as well as the rest of the staff. It did feel a bit weird at first because I noticed the staff and manager or owner staring at me. Then I realized I was the only black person in there, LOL. TO BE CLEAR!! There wasn't any negative sense to the stares, but more of "Is she going to like the food?" Of which, I loved it! The pho was so warm and tasty! The meat was tender and the mint, cilantro, bean sprouts toppings tasted fresh. The crab rangoons were so crispy and delicious, especially with the sauce. And the chai tea was nice and sweet. I looked back at the manager/owner in between eating and noticed he was smiling and asked was the food good? I gave a thumbs up as I had a mouth full of pho, Lol! Overall I say the experience was very relaxing and helped me ease down from being on the move all day. Highly recommend this place! read more
I've been to follow basil before a few times and never realize how good the food really was. We stopped in last night randomly on the way home and had a really great experience. The service was very quick. We walked in and were immediately seated. I appreciate that the menu has a QR code on the table so you don't have to wait for anyone to bring you menus. Additionally, after taking our orders on their portable machines, they quickly printed out the receipt and put it in a container at the end of the table, which we appreciated. It just expedites eating your food getting in and getting out. We ordered the Jasmine limeade and the sparkling limeade. Both were tasty. However, if you don't like citrusy or sour drinks, do not get the sparkling limeade. I personally love those taste so I enjoyed it. My fiancé enjoyed the Jasmine was a little bit more sweeter side. Appetizers spicy rangoon and the roti n curry dip. This is my second time having these dishes and they were even better last night! The spicy rangoon was not too spicy, and is packed with crab meat. The crisp of the rangoon was very light and not oily. The roti for the curry dip also resembled this lightness and flakiness. The curry dip was a sweet and savory blend that has a hint of spice and is so tasty. The appetizers were a good portion to share and we weren't full from eating them. For entrées, I got the Tom Yum fried rice with shrimp and my partner got the spicy eggplant. Both dishes were spicy like we like them and well seasoned. He asked for brown rice with his meal and said it was cooked well. My fried rice included basil, pepper, egg, and medium sized shrimp. His spicy eggplant included, eggplant, peppers, onion, tofu, mushroom in a light brown spicy sauce. Both dishes were very good. My fiancé did say the spicy eggplant was very spicy and that says a lot for him because he loves spicy food. I would definitely recommend this bustling place for folks just walking by or looking for some really good Asian food! read more

Our go-to spot for pho, delicious and affordable! Atmosphere is decent, gets really busy especially during the night on weekends, so waited for about 5-10 minutes before we were seated. After we ordered, our dishes arrived in no time! The broth was rich and the portions were good. Service was good. read more
In the mood for some quick Thai or Vietnamese food? You have to try Pho Basil. You are met with a simple interior and very quick service - it took them 5 mins to bring out our piping hot green curry! My son is a big fan of green curry & he wasn't disappointed. My daughter & I had the noodle soup instead. Very nice I must say - an authentically Thai taste. Loved those 80s tunes they were playing as well - but maybe that was only me. read more

I was surprised at how much I liked Pho Basil. Apparently it's a really popular local spot and there is a line outside before it opens. I got there 20 minutes after they opened on a Friday. It was about 90% full but luckily we got a table without having to wait. The restaurant is on the smaller side but they had a good amount of waiters and the service was excellent. Despite being busy the food also came out really fast. I ordered the drunken noodle based on the waitresses recommendation. I added the crispy chicken based off the yelp reviews I red. I LOVED my dish it was very flavorful, packed with veggies and the added crispy chicken was an amazing addition. The portions were quite large and the price is very reasonable. I now understand why they have are so popular. I would 100% come back here again. read more
This was my favorite Pho place back when I was living in Boston about a decade ago. I recently went back for dinner on a Friday and I forgot how packed it can get given that it's a pretty small place inside. I usually always order the Pho Tai, but I don't remember (or perhaps) forgot that they also have Thai food. This time I got the Koi Sao with Crispy Chicken which was really good! read more
The food here is delicious here. You get a pretty fast service as well. You may feel it's a bit rushed but it's a small space and it seems they are pretty popular. Friendly staff as well. The price is comparable to other places. Can't go wrong with anything you order on the menu. read more
