I visited Pho Barr recently and had a mixed experience. The spring rolls were decent, but really skimpy on meat, which was disappointing. However, the pho was flavorful and satisfying with a rich broth that was piping hot. Overall, the meal was good, but I wish the spring rolls had a bit more meat in it. Service was good, we came in and seated ourselves. We didn't have just one person come, it was 3 different people that came by to check on us or give us our food. The atmosphere was very welcoming. The Grilled chicken rice plate came with a side soup which was only broth and green onions and cilantro flavor was great a tiny bit on the salty side but still very tasteful! 4.5 out of 5 Have been to this location twice now. The food and service are great! We had vegetarian spring rolls, egg rolls, Bo Luc Lac, and viet coffee w/boba. Again food is delish! Fast and hot. Now, the Viet coffee is where that .5 star went. On the first occasion I ordered the Viet coffee frappe and was left sad. It taste like black, American coffee with milk but I figured it was the "frappe" aspect. On my next occasion, I asked our server if their coffee was made with cafe du monde and condensed milk. He explained to me that they do use cafe du monde as well as their own mixture of coffee, condensed milk, and half and half. That made me feel assured that I would be getting Viet coffee. Alas, it was not. I do not recommend their Viet coffee if that is your usual order at other shops or viet restaurants. That said, their milk teas are hella good! The service is always super good too they serve you water when you first arrive and they notice when it's not too full and refill it for you. The overall environment is pretty good too it's neutral in my opinion but it works. It's a small building and when it gets busy it's a little difficult to find a good spot but they will always have a table for you. When I met my wife, She introduced me to Vietnamese food. It used to be the closest Vietnamese Restaurant was on Scarsdale. It was a little ratty place with several tables and it was good, not that I had ever been to any other Vietnamese Restaurant at the time. Here we are 37 years later and there are several Vietnamese Restaurants in the Clear Lake area. Even the longest sanding Chinese Restaurant in Webster has a Vietnamese menu. Then there is this place, Phó Bar. My kids love this place. The food and service are both good but they do have a very limited menu. What they do make, they make very good. They charge way too much for Banh Mi, so I have never tried that. They seem to cater more to the American palette because they don't have things like Rice Soup, blood soup and other delicious Vietnamese food. Is the food here authentic? Yes it is, but I would like to see them offer more dishes and have nuc mam and vinegar on the table. Vietnamese food has made a significant impact on the Galveston Bay Area and that's a good thing. If you have never had Vietnamese Food, go here, ask questions about the dishes they serve and enjoy. Give them the business then go try Tan Tan up in Bellaire if you are up there. Compare ad contrast. Pho Bar is just as good if not better, but you will see Tan Tan has a much larger variety of food. Oh, and when you go to Pho Bar, try one of their Ice Coffees. My friend, who is a type one diabetic, and has to inject insulin 15 minutes before eating. Despite finding the bug, they insisted on eating what they could. very disappointed because they 1) "forgot" the soy sauce, " 2) forgot" the sriracha sauce, 3) forgot to put "hot" jalapeños???/ jalapeño was like bell pepper??? w/ ZERO heat 4) & they only had one spring of Thai basil /not enough, -it was not enjoyable with the left out and insufficient ingredients mentioned. - they had sufficient bean sprouts and chicken broth -But the LACK of the other needed ingredients or min quantity significantly took away from my enjoyment this time around. Usually i have been satisfied BUT NOT TODAY... :( It totally lacked flavor without the desperately needed sriracha and other mentioned absent ingredients so it DID NOT satisfy how I have come to enjoy this Pho - I also ordered shrimp spring rolls but it still needed the sriracha but still better than the plain pho .... very disappointed read more
