This restaurant has been here for the longest. I haven't came here since I was younger. I ordered a pho, #31, #55 and a large order of spring rolls. #1 Pho - I definitely had better pho elsewhere. It was a large portion, but the flavor just wasn't there. #31 Banh Cuon (steamed salad crepe - ground pork & black mushrooms, wrapped in delicious crepe of rice flour, served with vietnamese ham & cooked bean sprouts) - This wasn't bad. #55 Banh Hoi Thit Bo Lui (sesame beef with angel hair, noodles - grilled beef marinated with sesame seasoning, served with fine rice noodles, green leaves, mint leaves, cilantro, cucumber, carrot and pickle leeks) - This was delicious, and I love being able to wrap this with the lettuce and eating it in one bite. This Vietnamese restaurant is considered old school, similar to Pho Bac in Elmhurst and Thai Son in Jackson Heights. The servers here can speak Cantonese. When I entered, most of the customers are Asian, with one Caucasian, one Black, and one Hispanic parties. Even though it was 3:30 pm, the place was busy. More like a 3.5*, but I bumped up because this is my OG pho spot. Is it my first choice now? Of course not with all the option for viet in flushing now, but Pho Bang holds a nostalgic place in my belly since I've been coming here for over 15 years. Their food and service are consistent. Nothing is bad and you get what you pay for. I always get their number one pho with basically everything and as long as the soup comes out hot, I'm happy. This is a quick review for takeout... I came here at the recommendation from my sister who comes quite often with her bf. She pretty much orders the same thing each time and so I figured I should try it out... I order from the Com Dia (rice dishes) list -#93 Com Ga Nuong (grilled lemongrass chicken with rice, fish sauce vingagrette on the side, with tomatoes and cucumber garnishes). It was $9 (cash only I believe..don't quote me). I took it home back to LI and it smelled so good the whole way home. The food was amazing - make sure your pour the whole "container" of their fish sauce (vinaigrette I guess you could say) over the chicken and rice and then enjoy. I can't tell you how good it is!! It was also my friend from Japan's favorite restaurant in Flushing. He was a first place winner of Karate sparring tournament the day he just showed up, and History of economics teacher. Pho Bang has also been my favorite restaurant in Flushing. pho Bang was place was always packed just like Barney Green Grass on upper west side on 18th street and Amsterdam Ave. On the right is it's competitor Pho Hoang. It opened a few years ago. It offers more Americanized Chinese slash Vietnamese menu. It was just renovated and is driving Pho Bang out of business. As I enter I see fewer and fewer customers. The food is not the same ! etc. When customers from out of town arrive it is as if you are looking for the real Ray/s Pizza and instead find "Rae's Pizza" right next store. Which is the original ? Now Pho Hoang has a new and fresh interior. I still only go to Pho Bang to show my support. There was a time decades ago when New Yorker's knew the difference and the best restaurants even small etc. dives had lines around the block! They were known not for their name's alone but for the quality of their food. Those days are dwindling away as they say. I used to come here all the time with my mom growing up. Being able to come here now, all grown up, with my boyfriend and getting the same delicious food was nostalgic and comforting. Excited to come here more often. The food was exactly how I remembered it. The pork chops are always so flavorful. Prices were very reasonable and they give you free hot tea when you sit down. The lighting gives the restaurant a feeling that it's been around forever. The elderly staff made me wondering if they were the same people from the original spot. Order the #1, that's all you need to know. Their signature pho, in a flavorful broth, topped with thinly sliced beef (pro tip: tuck the semi raw beef into the broth to cook), and a slew of tender yummyness. This place is definitely a staple in Main St, Flushing. Been coming here for years and the taste of the pho has not changed at all. Unlike many other pho restaurants in Flushing or Chinatown, Manhattan, this place has not increased their prices like crazy. Pretty much this is my current go-to place for pho or other Vietnamese dishes. I also think this place is kinda cleaner than the Elmhurst branch. I also noted that the prices has increased through the years as well. My recommended dishes are: the pho! I have been coming here since I was a little kid and its probably been 20 years that I have been going to this restaurant. This is probably the best as it gets in terms of pho. While the restaurant is dirty and cash only, this place is continuously packed and always busy for one reason: the food is amazing and cheap. I don't even know how to explain it but their broth is cooked to perfection. I used to get their meatball pho and now I get the pho with grilled pork chop as well as crispy spring rolls. For $20, you will be filled with an appetizer, entree, and dessert or drink. The cashier takes orders on the phone like speed dial and will tell you the order is ready in 10 minutes but you will find dozens of people also picking up their order. My husband and I came here for an early lunch today right when they open at 10 am. We were both lucky enough to find parking nearby and was able to spend an hour for lunch with each other. The Pho with beef balls was the best I've ever had, the broth was so delicious and for once, I wasn't thirsty after eating Pho like I was in the past. The beef balls were very tasty and the rice noodles was cooked perfectly, not chewy nor hard. The Vietnamese sandwich was ok, I've had better. Could use more meat and lacking a few ingredients to be called an authentic Viet sandwich but I know every place makes it differently. Also, they put way too much pickled carrots and daikon. My husband had the summer rolls and the pork vermicelli; he said they were good and I took his words for it since he inhaled everything without any complaints. When its usally the two of us eating, we typically get an order of spring rolls, and gosh, are they plumb and piping hot, but I do wish though, that they would bring it out before your entree since spring rolls are on the appetizer section. The inside décor of the restaurant is extremely rustic and tables and chairs are truly old school plain and boring. They don't get any bonus points for decorating. The broth is not too oily or salty and you get that nice beefy earthy pho broth aroma and taste. The beef are thinly sliced and separated nicely in your bowl. I have been to other places where the beef is slapped in piles and served up, Oh no no! These guys do it right and the cuts of meat have the right ratio of lean/fat. The spring and summer roll appetizers are a must have, The grilled chicken or pork cops served over rice are most excellent! The "Nuoc Cham" (fish sauce) is perfectly seasoned for this rice dish, pour a little or a lot, this is some serious delish fish sauce. There was enough of their thinly-sliced meat and the broth was light, but tasty. One of my friends was still not full after a bowl, so he ordered a Roast Beef Banh Mi. I had a little bit and it is by far, one of the best banh mis I've ever had. The baguette was toasty and warm and there were many ingredients. Not much cha siu but it was filling, to say the least. Pho BANG BANG for the win babyyy I'd have to say that this is my go to spot for Pho. I always get the #1 - large bowl of Pho with various cuts of meat. I went recently, and the price is $8.25 if I remember correctly. Taste-wise, I feel like they do everything right. The noodles are not overcooked like some other places and are usually just right. The cuts of meat are enjoyable, and the bowl is nice and big (but could be bigger). The broth is nice and flavorful. It is hot, sweaty, crowded, and unfriendly in here, which is kind of expected for Flushing. Waiters can't really speak English, so just point to a number. They make it crystal clear that they could care less about you and want you to order and eat quickly so they can kick you out as fast as possible. At least the food comes out fast. Overall, the food shines enough over the atmosphere and service to warrant 5 stars. read more
