I was in the mood for Vietnamese food so decided to bring the family here. They are located in a strip shopping near Shoprite so I knew parking would be no problem. First, we are greeted by the friendly hostess and were immediately seated. She brought us some hot tea which tastes delightful. We ordered pho tai and pho bo vine (both are beef noodle soups), vermicelli with spring rolls, and white rice with grilled pork and meat patty, and crispy noodles with seafood. The noodle soup broth are bland and was lacking salt. I added the some lime to give it some taste but it was still lacking. I sample the vermicelli dish with spring rolls and it was decent. It wasn't the best spring rolls I had but it was ok. My father had the crispy noodles with seafood which he said tasted like chips with seafood. The noodles were too hard to chew. I trust his view as he has had his fair share of eating this very same dish at multiple Vietnamese restaurant across America and in Vietnam. The rice with grilled pork was by far the best tasting dish that one can order this restaurant. I mean it wasn't the best Vietnamese grilled pork I ever tasted but considering out of 5 different orders this evening, this dish is saving grace. Overall, some dish I would not recommend such as the bland soup. Some dishes are better such as the rice but it was just ok good, not great. The place was clean. There is two television and about 14 tables. They have to go menus. They don't deliver. The price is higher than what I'm use to paying at other Vietnamese restaurant. The place is decent, if you are in the area they have better options for Vietnamese food. Pho broth is average with good flavors but nothing over the edge. I ordered a pork chop with rice and egg, which half the pork chop was fat but otherwise average. Service though is fast, and prices are decent. Nothing to rave about, but decent if you really are craving Viet food. read more

Great find on my drive to Princeton from NY for work! I happened upon this place while looking for another... lucky me!! First off, they're in a small shopping center, in a shop towards the end and the outside is not much to look at. Inside, the place is clean and bustling. Staff was friendly and efficient, JoAnne and Josh both waited on me. There was a mix up on my food, I'm allergic to wheat and they put the crunchy onions on top of my rice wrap. However, Josh quickly rectified the situation and JoAnne removed the dish from my check. Overall, excellent food, service and staff...I'll be back!! read more

Pho Anh Dao is not a bad place if you are looking to get your Pho craving satisfied! Everything here for me was pretty average though. The space is nicer, and if you remember their old location, this one is much better and spacier. For appetizer I tried the deep fried Viet egg rolls which were not bad. They are crispy and hot, so I recommend using the lettuce to wrap around the egg roll and dip in sauce to cool it down a little, or else you will burn your tongue! I got the combo pho which had a variety of beef in it. The broth itself was okay, as it lacked some flavor and tasted a little watered down. I added some sauces and spice to it to make the soup taste better. I had no complaints for the beef itself in the soup. The noodles were satisfactory. The service here is a plus, as I feel they are attentive and and the food comes out pretty quick. When it is busy they seem to have a fast customer turnover rate. read more

First off, the place was quite empty at 12PM on a Sunday, so we were surprised. Nonetheless, we loved the spaciousness and cleanliness (especially the bathroom lol). The servers were very friendly as well, and it was a pleasant experience overall. Unfortunately, the pho bowls we got weren't quite up to par - everything on the menu has increased in price again ($13 for most pho, $14 for the combo pho). The soups did not seem quite hot enough when they came out, and the steaks were cooked very tough so much so that we really struggled to chew through. The shrimp pho was quite good, although I wish there had been more than 6 medium-ish shrimp (I have been to places that use prawns or jumbo sized). I did have the option to switch to chicken stock soup, which I appreciated. They also let us request to cook the bean sprouts before serving. This was okay overall! May or may not come back, but for the service I would lean towards perhaps/yes. read more

I read the good reviews and maybe got a little too excited about Pho Anh Dao. I didn't personally order the pho which was probably a mistake. I had the tomato crab soup which was essentially inedible. It was SO fishy and I'm not sure if it was real crab. The noodles were so soft and basically fell apart too. We also had the bahn xeo and bahn cuon which were not great at all. I think you really have to stick to the pho so maybe I'll give this place another shot but the other menu items were really disappointing. read more

Mmmmm one of the best pho places in the Edison area. I really only come here for pho because the broth is so comforting. Their recipe has the slightest sweetness and paired with the lime it just hits the spot! The broth also compliments the meat so well and keeps it tender and ever so slightly rare. The pho isn't the only good thing here though, I have had many appetizers and each one is very good. I wouldn't call this place ground breaking, there are more unique places in NJ for Vietnamese, but if you are looking for good food with all of the classics, this is a great spot for some good food read more

Service is always great for dine in or takeout. The staff really makes an effort to get to know their patrons. If you have food allergies they are very considerate in accommodating please don't shy away from just asking. They are also willing to make substitutions or alterations to an order. Have a picker eater that hates vegetables? No problem just let the staff know and they will kindly accommodate without judgment without any animosity. If you plan on dining in for dinner especially on a Saturday either get there by 5:00 p.m. or you might have a wait. The restaurant fills up quite fast during dinner rush. Food is always fresh and filled with flavor. They also have a variety of drinks available such as soft drinks, teas, juices, shakes & Vietnamese coffee. Desserts are also available. Those who are looking for the bánh mì sandwich the website doesn't show it on the menu but they do have it. Still having Vietnamese food cravings, me and my sister decided to visit one of the more highly rated local NJ Vietnamese restaurants to compare with my recent experience at Pho Vietnam in NYC. Pho Anh Dao presents a clean and inviting space composed of both a lower and upper seating area with both normal tables and chairs and bench seating. We were seated in the upper area which was the aforementioned comfortable bench seating. We started with two appetizers: -Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls (#2 on the menu): This was a really nice way to start the meal with fresh vibrant herbs and vegetables, and a nicely seasoned pork and big snappy shrimps inside. Served on the side was a really tangy fish sauce and a so-so peanut butter dipping sauce that I found a bit bland and thin. -Grilled Pork Bahn Mi (not listed on the menu): Pho Anh Dao's take on this classic Vietnamese bite was quite good. Firstly the bread was toasted to a super crisp and crackly texture, and subsequently the pork was deliciously grilled with caramelized sweet fatty pieces. My only negative was that I didn't get much heat, spice, or extra flavor from the other sandwich ingredients. For entrees: -Pho Xe Lua (#24 on the menu): My sister enjoyed this Pho a lot. The ever important broth was very smooth and pure tasting; having a cleaner flavor compared to the broth from the Vietnamese restaurant we tried the previous day (Pho Vietnam in NYC). The proteins listed as rare beef, well done brisket, beef flank, beef tendon, and beef tripe were all quite good too. Finally my sister noted that while the rice noodles were good, they were not as special as those at Pho Vietnam which had such a unique slightly firm texture. - Banh Hoi Bo Nuong La Nho (#43 on the menu): My entree was comprised of minced beef wrapped in grape leaves grilled to a slight char, served on top of a bed of rice noodles, cabbage leaves, fresh cucumber, and tomatoes. Grilling the grape leaves generated such a memorably special flavor, one I can honestly say I've never experienced before; minty, smoky, savory, and a hint of sweetness. The finely latticed rice noodles were perfect as they soaked up the really tangy fish sauce served on the side. The food comes out wicked fast (especially pho) so if you are hungry and want to get food in your belly fast, this is a great option! This is really more of a 2.5 star rating. First off, the food at Pho Anh Dao is actually really good! Their spring rolls were delicious and the bun thit nuong was sooo filling. However, we called in a couple days earlier to make a reservation for 20 people. I was told by the person who booked it that it was confirmed. When we showed up and said we were here for a party of 20, they said they had no record of such reservation. Very disappointed. I ordered a fresh ground pork spring roll, and it had a sliced kind of salami similar to Spam instead of nicely ground pork. Bizarre. Was excited to order the chicken pho soup next because that is hard to mess up. The broth was surprisingly light in flavor, yet tasty, but the meat was the flavor and consistency of turkey!
